    Ah, Julio is cute! We just found out our Sadie has bone cancer and there's no way to know how long we'll have with her. We're giving her extra love because she can't play like she wants to. When Prometheus goes off to school I'll need a guard dog and I'm not sure what to get, Boxer or German Shepherd, but ugh, the hair of a GSD. =/ I just had scrambled eggs and salsa the other morning. 😋 delicious. The cloud at the top of the mountain was cool! Hahaha, Julio watching the screen. Animals are so funny. 🤗

      Thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, it’s the book by Elizabeth Kostova. I wish I loved it as much as others have, but I’m just not connecting with it, unfortunately. I’m at the 50% mark and I am enjoying it a bit more now that the book seems to be focusing mostly on two storylines rather than 3/4.

      @@angieandthegreatworld LOL I wasn't interested in reading about blood sucking demons. And I read one star reviews that validated my decision based on other issues in the book. Also, as a Christian, I try to avoid those types of books. I'd much rather read the history books of Vlad and the politics of that time period and the area.

    Infidelity in fiction is something I also don't like, but if it is important for the storyline in quality fiction, I can read it. Last year I read The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham which starts with infidelity in progress! The two people were in the bedroom when the husband walked into the home. Startling, but the novel is very much worth reading and was made into a movie. I read Caddie Woodlawn to my children while homeschooling years ago. Great Wisconsin book!

    • @angieandthegreatworld

      I read a Christian fiction book years ago that involved infidelity, but it was a compelling story and the author did such an amazing job presenting both sides of the story. It was actually one of my favorite reads for a time. You’re right, it can be important to quality fiction. I tried visiting Caddie Woodlawn’s house in Wisconsin one summer, but it was closed on the day I was there. 😢 I want to go back some day.

    Sadly, of the three Riley Sager books I've read, I liked Lock Every Door the best. My next door neighbors had a black bottom pool and the husband was awful. During this time period he told me there was a shark in his pool; while I was swimming in the pool! He was such a jerk. Caddie Woodlawn was a book I read to Prometheus in elementary. I think we both enjoyed it. =) Such a wide variety of books. Two more months, right?

    • @angieandthegreatworld
      @angieandthegreatworld 2 місяці тому

      Is Sager’s writing style the same in the three books you’ve read? I think I would’ve developed a fear of swimming had it been me. Yes, two more months. 🤞🏼

    • @BookZealots
      @BookZealots Місяць тому

      @@angieandthegreatworld I don't recall the writing style being different, just the premises of the stories. I really didn't like Home Before Dark. The main female was a jerk. I liked the premise of Final Girls, but there were some issues in it. I buddyread The Th1rte3n series with another booktuber and all four books felt like someone different wrote them. I didn't like that at all. Sagers books aren't jarring in that respect.

    This is the one that creeped me out the most as a kid, like Angie was saying with the letter "Venio" and the figure in the distance getting closer and closer. Now as an adult, I think certain elements didn't age well - like the language around mental health - definitely of its time. I find Lewis so relatable in this one - with his anxiety, the type of things he worried about and his struggles with the bullies, I agree John Bellairs must have experienced some of that himself. It would have been so cool to have a Q&A with him.

      @@angieandthegreatworld Hi Angie, Yes, I've mentioned Radium Girls's dnf a couple of times in a couple of different videos. I felt it was too repetitious and I was extremely frustrated with the girls for being so noncontrontational in their fight instead of getting strong and truly standing up for themselves. And they were used and abused by not just their employer, but their doctors and lawyers as well. I just couln't finish it. I was angry at everyone involved. I think it's more about being real and not being a narcissist of planning out a whole script and trying to be perfect, etc. Which isn't to say all of the ones who use scripts are narcissists, but there's a pattern. We're like you. People either like our content or they don't. And we're not going to bend to anyone, because not everyone can be pleased. (we're not people pleasers, but we do like making people laugh). Prometheus is super witty, but that doesn't come across. It's more important for you to enjoy what you do, than to cater to an audience. Hooray for Tess in October! I think I read it in high school. (not for school. I did a lot of personal reading). But I don't remember it. I'm sure bits and pieces will return as we read it. I'm looking forward to it. Thank you.
