The issue if a person did bad job on the house the government dose not care , they have no teeth. The best when built it a new house The value of the home is in the bank. It does not pass until all the house it’s been expected for any faults are rectified and when the homeowner and inspector is satisfied that’s when you release or money from the bank.

Jail time for criminal builder fraudsters seems fair and might make them act right.

you should BY LAW be allowed to name the builder, consumers SHOULD have a right to know. Just because we have a housing crisis (caused by the government for a variety of reasons) its no excuse to allow dodgy builders to get away with ripping off consumers. I feel for those poor new home owners, they're going to spend much of their life paying off a home loan for a house that wasn't built to spec.

About the only thing I can say is, try to buy a house built before the 1990s. Its somewhere after this point when people really started to cut corners in the name of efficiency and 'fast, cheap builds'. I was shocked at the condition of a housing development I came across in 2013, a least half the houses already had cracks developing in the brick work.

is there a legal issue naming the builders? I have watched several videos about this stuff and its always kept hush hush who the builder was/is. Is this because they have a kind of "right to repair" thing in place so the video may not be indicative of the final product? Seems like transparency would be the best preventative in this case. Scares the hell out of me because I would love to build a home myself in the next year.

This is what happens when the government stops training for trades people and we bring in unqualified people to do trade jobs, the question needs to be asked who is passing the build at the different stages as someone must be signing it off.

I've been up in several roof spaces to do some work for clients and have never seen ducting done like this. I've always had to crawl over ducting to get to where I need to do my work and always trying to be careful to land my foot on a joist or wall plate on the other side of the ducting.

0:16 Those joints are not butt joints. They've reinforced the recessed joints which is a good thing.

So we are assuming this is a level 4 finish and there are three or more recessed joints occuring in a continuous ceiling area - thats when its required

Might be worth checking the contact for the stage definitions . There is a difference between lock up and fixings stage .

It happened because the Building Supervisor did not / does not check the compliance of the work being conducted and the a very high percentages of the workers who do the installation are all wearing cowboy hats.

I wave watched these in action. Leaves block the drain and no water does down the drain any more. Everywhere but in the drain. Unless you clean them everyday you will be undermining your foundations around the drain

Sad to day but this is typical of bathrooms i see. Waterproofing is the most important part, but given the least concern.

Its always possible to detect termites and evidence of termite damage if the person looking is has the experience, necessary equipment and is sufficiently mitivated. But that's a big IF. Most termite reports aren't worth the paper they are written on. Generally they state that the relates to that specific date and time the inspection was carried out and only obviously visible parts if the structure were inspected. Effectively no reliance can be placed on a report if comorehensive inspection of all probable infestaion areas are viewed using readily availabke equipment and should include the grounds and vegetaion on the property including associated structures.

BS … “100mm past each end of the join” refers to the butt joins … the ends of the sheet, not along the flush edge. The diagram even says it’s for butt joins. Even if they didn’t back-block the butt joins they won’t have to pull all the insulation out because there’s probably only 5 or 6 joins in the whole house, and they will be in the big family areas.

Makes me wonder if these workers even know the BCA (Building code of Australia), the NCC (National Construction Code) and have ever seen the house plans, have seen an Australian Standard or read the free literature from suppliers on how to install their gutters, window frames, flashings and pipe penetrations. The standards cost some money, but the BCA, NCC, Codes of Practice and product data sheets are freely available if not directly detailed on the Engineering drawings.

Practical Completion means liveable / usable with an acceptable and agreed list of defects to rectify. This home is certainly not liveable. Most of the issues visible were cosmetic or incomplete and should not be difficult to remedy, but there are some biggies such as the garage slab not extending to the brick wall, that should have been raised as a defect as soon as it was identified and the engineer and client agreeing to the repair.

My 20 year old colourbond roof looks like new compared to that.

Can %100 take lichen off 😅 And lichen is actually a lot bigger issue than people think. It speeds up the process of delignification on rafters and battens and It adds excess weight and retains moisture in your roof.
