Removing the Magazine Catch Spring Screw and Replace your Trigger Bar Spring on the CZ Shadow 2
@R41D
-Use brief pinpoint heat to loosen the glue that’s securing the screw
-Use the correct gunsmithing flat head driver Wheel Engineering #141-491
-Remove screw right away, don’t go for coffee, walk the dog, take a nap, watch the Super Bowl etc.
-Watch the trigger bar spring as you index the screw, at some point you will overtighten the spring and it will pop up between the trigger bar and the humps of the spring will be visible. You’ve gone too far, back off on the screw until the spring seats itself under the trigger bar spring where it belongs.

Clean and Lube for the CZ Shadow 2 (read description if soaking in CLP or cleaner).

The immersion of your slide into the CLP or cleaning solution only applies to the non-optic Shadow 2. If you have an optic, either remove the optic or only immerse up to the the rails or half way up the horizontal axis of the slide and prop it up so it doesn’t fall over. DO NOT immerse your optic. OBVIOUSLY. LOL.

      @Beamer1108 I used 3M microgrit polishing pads. Start with 600grit and work your way up to 12,000grt. I did a check on Amazon.ca and they still have them in the 2” x 2” size and 4” x 3” size. I used the 2” x 2” size. Not sure if Amazon.com has them, but if you search the term “Micro Mesh Polishing Pads” you should get some hits. Any other search term will net you nothing. Must be “Micro Mesh Polishing Pads”, It takes awhile to work through the grits, but you get a nice shiny steel finish. Be sure to use a light coating of gun oil on them afterwards. The nitrid finish protects against rusting. I also polished a barrel to steel and have never had it rut on me. You just want to remove the Nitrid finish, not metal, so don’t get carried away. To polish in the grooves I used 3M radial bristle discs on a Foredom Flexshaft, but you can also carefully use a Dremel, but have far less control unless you have a speed foot control for it. Hope this helps! Sonja

    My Double action when pulling through the take up and then letting go it wont go back into place. I think one of the trigger bar spring sides isn't resting properly under the groove but i am not sure how to get it back into place or if i should change the whole spring. Im weary of breaking the pin holding it in

    • @CZFanGrrl
      @CZFanGrrl 2 місяці тому

      I have a video on that. I think it’s on the full disassembly. Anyways, the screw that adjusts the trigger jar spring needs either to be tightened or loosened until the humps of the trigger bar spring sit back in the grooves under the trigger bar. If the screw is over tightened, it compresses the spring and makes it flare, you’ll see that the bumps on the spring are visible. Too loose also not good. I hope this helps! Let me know if it doesn’t!

      @@CZFanGrrl I will check it out,is heating necessary and if so for how long and where on the screw exactly,my screw is factory tightened but the right screw seems to be a little out if place it is not in the groove rather it is on the edge of the bar on the inside closer to the frame

    • @CZFanGrrl
      @CZFanGrrl 2 місяці тому

      If you have a heat gun on the low setting, concentrate the heat on the head of the screw. A hair drier will also work on the high setting. A butane torch is what I use for a very short burst of heat. What you want to avoid is overheating the mag release spring and the trigger bar spring that are held in place by the screw. Overheating them will take them out of temper (they’ll soften and lose their spring). If you use a pin point butane torch very short bursts of heat and test the loosening of the screw after each time. It is REALLY difficult to remove without heating. They use some pretty strong glue at the factory. I don’t reglue mine after loosening or removing them. A proper gunsmithing flat screw driver is also important to use, you want one that has a tight fit otherwise the screwdriver will slip out of the notch. By what you are describing, it sounds more like the screw needs to be tightened to bring the spring closer to centre under the trigger bar. Great observations and descriptions, that helps me a lot. Good luck with that!

      When the screw is too tight itcompresses the spring and makes it flare out of the groove. You’ll hear a clicking noise when you manipulate the screw, this is normal.

CCI, Ginnex, WInchester and Finochi primers are a bit too hard to reliably ignite. Did I mention that’s an 8# Eemann Tech spring correct? They’re wound a bit tighter than the Cajun 8.5. The other being a Beretta 92FS Nano but I don't think my 92 was feels this bad. Definitely need to do something about how bad the pull weight is on DA mode. 6lb in DA and 3.5lb in SA would be great. Edit: really anything 5-6.5lb in DA and under 3.5lb in SA would be great. Doesn't even need to be under 3lbs in SA. I just hate that DA pull feel right now. I recently picked up a Shadow 2 OR, and had the frame Cerakoted. I wanted to do some polishing (which is how I found this video) and was wondering if you (or anyone else) had any opinions about using a Dremel for this sort of polishing. Would it be overkill for something like this?

      Overkill! Dremels run at too high an RPM and you run the risk of potentially removing too much. Unnecessary Get those micro grit polishing pads I refer to, available on Amazon everywhere and polish by hand. All you are wanting to do is remove the nitride and smooth any surface grit, not remove metal, which is what will probably happen with a Dremel. Congrats on your purchase! What optic are you thinking of running on it?.

      @@CZFanGrrl Hey, thanks for the reply! I took your advice and ordered the polishing pads. I have this problem where I need to have the latest toys, so I went with a Trijicon RMR HD for an optic. It feels weird, this being the first pistol I've shot that doesn't have iron sights, even to co-witness with the optic. On one hand I like having them there, so I got a plate with a dovetail for a rear sight, but on the other this is purely for range fun and perhaps competition (and I have a top-loading battery) so I'm more torn than Natalie Imbruglia.

    • @CZFanGrrl
      @CZFanGrrl 5 місяців тому

      Hey Cory> Glad you’re going the polishing pad route, I have a video on using the polishing pads to put a mirror finish on an aluminum Springer Precision magazine brake. Getting a mirror finish on aluminum is probably the hardest thing to accomplish. The Trijicon RMRHD is unknown to me, I know the Trijicon RMR, so I’m going to check that out! I shot irons in competitive shooting matches before making the switch to optics and have never looked back. At one point I even removed my front sight because I thought it was messing with my brain and dividing my attention from focusing on the optic. Give yourself time to get used to shooting with an optic. You’re probably going to be slower initially, but the learning curve is fast and you’ll be amazed at how quickly your accuracy improves. It almost felt like “cheating” initially because I improved so fast. Top loading battery is BOSS! Checked out the RMR HD, that’s a nice robust looking optic. (Natalie Imbruglia reference - 🤣).

      Typically not too hard to do, just fiddly. Having smaller hands helps, if not, tweezers that haven’t been magnetized. I have a few pairs of non magnetized tweezers that I sometimes use when my fingers feel like thumbs. Another trick is to lay the gun on it’s left side and then install the spring and detent. Lay it down and push it back into position. The notches will hold it in place when you have it placed properly, The right detent will fall out, but that one is easier to reinstall.

The extended safety is a good add on to that, but if you’re not shooting competitively it’s not as important. I switched from Cajun to Eemann Tech because I have a couple friends that compete at World’s Levels IPSC and that’s what they use and in my experiments with reloading, I get more power from the Eemann Tech using lighter loads (less recoil) yet still able to set off the non-Federal primers which are usually hard to come by. That’s just my preference. Hope the conversion goes well! You won’t need the disconnector in there any longer but you’ll need a SAO trigger. You should see one of my earlier videos where in my enthusiasm to demonstrate the smoothness of the trigger I repeatedly pulled the trigger (and subsequently dropped the hammer on nothing because the slide was removed like in your case). From a metallurgical point of view, what occurs is “work hardening”, when a harder metal strikes a softer metal (ie, a steel hammer striking silver repeatedly. The silver will work harden, the steel will not. The silver molecules become disordered and small and with enough time and blows the silver will become brittle and snap. But this would mean a lot of prolonged hammer blows over an extended length of time, The Shadow 2 hammer and the frame are the same metal (same hardness), it would take a long time for damage to occur. Enjoy the gun! The Shadow 2 is an amazing piece of equipment. BTW. How are you liking the compact? I would have gotten one but our idiot LiberalNDP government banned sales of handguns in Canada.
