Thank you sir. Saved me $1000. Your advice is impeccable…💯👌🏽
Yep I did this after I broke my connector. Fuck those plastic ends. Now I have piece of mind
Yep I did this after I broke my connector. Fuck those plastic ends. Now I have piece of mind
This was definitely helpful. Appreciate the video
Can you plz give me an update have you had any problems since you did this? I’m thinking of doing it today
Sure thing, I haven’t had any issues with this repair. I have done it to 5 or 6 other trucks at this time all with no problems. It’s a solid repair. There is a replacement plug and pigtail available if you want to retain that feature. A person commented a while back about unpinning the old plug and installing the new plug. I have stuck with the ring terminal. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@ I like your hack better I just need to grow the courage to cut the wire that’s all I’ll probably do it today
It’s super easy to do with the starter out of the way. Just cut as close to the plug as possible I actually cut through a bit of the plug and a good solid crimp. You will be good to go.
How or what was you using to get that great overhead view?
Love it. Might just fix my problem
Best and most informative video I’ve watched all year.
You don't need to splice in a new connector if you break the red clip. The plastic parts of the connector easily disassemble. Buy a new connector pigtail and pry out the gray core with a small screw driver or steak knife from the side. Next push two small paper clip pins into the two small holes on each side of the metal connector until they bottom out. Now slide the plastic connector off the metal crimped wire connector. Repete with the broken one then simply slide the new connector then the gray core onto the existing metal crimped connector.
Really great info for someone that wants to retain the oem style connector. Thank you for sharing !
I got the leak to stop, but I have vibration and noise coming from helm. It is just air bubbles possibly?
I suspect you are probably right about the air. Some times it takes a couple of trips to get it worked out.

Very much appreciated. Thank you!!!
Bags of water softener salt works great and real cheap in 50 lb bags
Good info. Thank you
I was extra cautious when dealing with my red tab and it still shattered from being so brittle. My starter should arrive today and I will install it tomorrow morning. I have everything broken down already and I’m definitely going to use the ring terminal method.
Good deal. Hopefully it all worked out. Thanks for watching!!!
Very well done video
Thank you!!!
Glad I found this video. I'm on my 2nd Uflex helm in less than 6 months- both leaked. Haven't even had the chance to take it out on the water yet. Uflex helms are overpriced junk.
Agreed. Thank you for watching and commenting!!!
Hello. How many day do I havle to keep the bait in salt.? Manythanks
Sorry for the delay. I usually keep them in the salt for 24 to 36 hours, then lay out to dry. time for drying will vary depending on the humidity in your location. It’s very important to not dry them out too much.
What rod is that with you and the bull red? I don't see many long baitcaster rods without way too much spine. I want a long one 10'+ of medium capacity (1-5oz rated) and I've had no luck finding such. It seems they have plenty down under and also across the pond. USA? not so much unless you go custom and I checked on blanks--higher than I expected! Is that a Penn?
Great video!! My 2007 mercury optimax 115hp 2 stroke is hard to start when warm up. It cranks but doesn’t starts. When you let it cool down for about 10 minutes it starts up without any problems, I have water flow. Any idea what it could be? Thanks 🙏🏽
I love that you showed that hack , I’m subscribing to your channel, I do things the same way ….GO BILLS !!! JA 17 !!!
Good deal. Thank you for subscribing!!!
They salt the prawns with salt and sugar in Greece that works really well. Just put some in salt for my holiday next week. Thanks for the advice.
Good deal. We have had really good luck using these shrimp. Thanks for watching!
I had to replace my starter . Good video explaining everything. Saved me lots of time.
Thanks! Glad this video helped out.
Thank God for this video
Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching!
Dude - I don't care what Anybody Says or Thinks ... What you did to that wire is an UPGRADE in my opinion! That ridiculous plug with that stupid clip thing on it is a BAD DESIGN - Nuthin' Wrong with using a Simple Ring Terminal to connect... In Fact, it's probably BETTER!
I've Upgraded all my Grounds on my 2018 and even added on a few New Grounds. These Brittle Wire Harnesses are a Joke. Sometimes Easier is just EASIER!!
Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
I hate that the heat source is dead in the middle
un grand merci depuis la France 😊
Glad to help!
Im over here workin on a sump pump. Brilliant! Thanks a bunch bud!
No problem. Glad to hear the video helped out. Thanks for watching!
What salt to be used? After adding salt it should be kept outside for how many hours
Just to end my own question, I got the answer from a dealer in Norway. On smaller engines, the switch is located under the separate oil tank. :)
I See You already answer'd related to carlking''s 115 hp.. anyway mine is an old machine from 2006, runs great, but will not pass 2500,-
Hi, I have a 75 hp with the same problem .won't run above 2500 rpm,, I cant find the swith you show in this great video.. Do you know if it could be placed in the handle-bar assembly at the controll-panel ? Regards Paal
Will thawed frozen shrimp work?
Yes. It will work just fine.
You can't get the water pump bolts out because of electrolysis I would've checked all the zincs in there powerhead because with the aluminum hull it's just going to eat that engine like it was a vat of acid
There isn’t any anodes in the power head on a Mercury Verado. Electrolysis is just one of the many joys of life on the coast. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Takes about 30 min to get out and 30 min to put back in. 10 minutes cussing 10 min resting your neck And 10 min of actual work
lol. Perfect description. Thank you!!!
Thanks
No problem. Thanks for watching!
i using pure white coarse salt i don't know it will work or not
Should work with no problem. Thanks for watching!
Great vid, thanks. The tips and commentary are super helpful, and critical - a mic would minimize background noise and completely transform watchers' ability to hear you!
Thanks for the comment. I am still working on getting all the necessary gear for this channel but it is expensive especially for someone who isn’t making any money off of the videos. I did just buy some editing software that should help with the background noise in future videos. A mic is definitely on the list to purchase and needed especially in that noisy old barn. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video. I've done two of those. Broke red clip both times. Whats the trick on the red clip 😅
Thanks. Use a little flathead screwdriver and gently pry it back towards the wire. It shouldn’t have to be taken completely out but it happens sometimes. Dirt, dust and brittle plastic sometimes makes it impossible unfortunately. If you want to get a clear look at how it works check out the plug on your MAF sensor it operates the same way and is very easy to see.
thanks, good one. Another bitch diagnosed
Should be put in the freezer or bottom part of the refrigerator I mean just cool it
I just keep it in the bottom of the fridge but the freezer will work if you don’t have the extra space.
@@sloth-worxwhich salt should be used with fine salt or coarse ideal
I would choose finer grain salt but I wouldn’t have a problem using the cheapest most available option.
where is the shift switch on a 2008 mercury optimax 115
It should be attached to the bracket the shift cable slides in. Looking at an old parts diagram it appears that the wires that connect it to the main wire harness may use bullet connections instead of a single plug. They can be hard to see, if you can find the wire they will lead you to it. There is always a chance someone removed an and just connected the wires together. Hope this helps you out. Good luck
Best salty shrimp video I've seen in years.
Thanks for the kind words.
Add a pinch of garlic powder... For bass use a little anise..try to use pool salt or sea salt. For catfish do the same with chicken pieces welcome to nevwr being skunked again Works great with squid
Great tips! I need to try some chicken.
I'm going to try this with creekchubs, common carp fillets, bluegill fillets, and shad to fish for channel catfish. If this works, I will be vacuum sealing the baits and storing them in my garage in a 5-gallon bucket with a screw-on lid. I hope this goes well. It so, it will free up space in my freezer for more catfish nuggets instead of storing frozen bait. 😉
Thank you
How long can you keep the bait in refrigerated
I have some that’s been in my fridge for a little over a year. Just make sure it’s sealed in a bag or container so it doesn’t continue to dry out. We will just pull out what we need when we get the chance to go fishing. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Checked this one I unplugged it and it work so I said it’s the switch but I replaced it and it was still doing it won’t rev up then I took it back off kept the wires plugged but not installed and it’s working again. Need help seems to be working without it installed with the wires connected. What else could it be?
Check that the switch still operates smoothly by hand after it’s installed. If the screws are too tight or some kind of imperfection in the mounting surface may jam up the new switch.
It’s not the issue. I end up taking it to the shop. Hopefully it’s an easy fix will update
Do you leave it out over night??? Not in the fridge or freezer?
I just leave it out through the salting process. Once bagged up I refrigerate until I am ready to use it. The salted baits can go without refrigeration for a few days even weeks before goes bad. Thanks for commenting and watching!!!
What diagnostic system are you using?
I’m using the Mercury g3 software.
That entire plastic piece you cut in half crapped out on me, the starter is in fine working order otherwise I wonder where I can find just that
I haven’t tried it yet but I would be tempted to just wire it up straight to the terminals on the solenoid and delete that little plastic piece all together. I know the switch wire will work, just need to make sure there is enough wire on the main wire and bend the ring terminal a bit to work. Otherwise junkyard if you have any close by. Good luck with your project.
If it is melted I would be concerned that there is something else wrong that needs to be addressed first.
@@sloth-worx i didn’t see anything melted I think I just ran into the same problem as you with the switch wire and the guy who owned the truck before me must not have bolted the main wire well enough because the nut was missing and the terminal on the starter side was damaged from vibration
That makes sense. If the starter side is messed up beyond getting a nut back on there you will unfortunately have to get a new starter.
awesome , thanks
