Nice simple build. Thanks for the vid. I've got one in the works in my shop. I'm using non-pressure treated lumber because I am staining this one a dark pecan and the table top will be chared with a torch first then semi transparent stained to resemble a Texas Flag. I'm donating it to a local charity to auction off to raise money.

I found a community garden that has rotting warping picnic tables.
Some planks on the table curve up like a smile and the bench on one side has bowed (asp like a smile- that broke) dead center.
For long lasting, would it need some sort of center brace on such a long bench?
My dream is to surprise the city with some new picnic tables or at least enjoy them as long as they keep it open.
I just moved here and was delighted to find a city garden not padlocked after hours.

My dad sells Live Edge hardwoods. Has 14 varieties.
For the tables I’m thinking post oak. Or black locust. Just for endurance.

I’m a novice but you make this totally doable! I get it.
Hoping Dad will donate some wood for a good cause but this one time… those ‘live edges” will have to be made straight.

Make the legs about 2 inches longer if you do. It was a little short for my liking.

It’s hard to guesstimate with lumber prices fluctuating so much, but I think it cost me $170 for all the lumber and hardware last year.
Good video...I agree it's a small bit short. If I make longer legs how much longer can they be so I don't run out of lumber? Also, would I put the legs closer together at the top, so they don't stick out any further?
How many inches of 2x4s would you need
so how do you seal it from rain and are you going to stain it at all?
Great video! I’m trying to build a low profile picnic table for my kids .. have them sit on pillows. Something smaller so easy to transport. I’m wondering if I could apply your build with the same table top but without the benches. I’m only making it 4 feet long, so would screw on legs support it ?
Also I was looking at your description and you put 2 items as 2x6x8 but different quantities.. I was confused.. but I love the video. I might make one for adults after this project.

You list is wrong says 2x6 instead of 2x4s
You’re right! The list is wrong, but you’re wrong about how it’s wrong. It’s just missing the 2x4 angled braces.
Great vid! Did you use pressure treated?
I did not. Didn’t think it would be best to use a chemically treated lumber for something people would be eating off of. Also, the plan was to stain and seal the wood, but I ended up selling it before we got around to that.

I noticed that you didn't pay any attention to the crown of the wood. is that not necessary for tables?
You can totally pay attention to the crown of the wood. When I purchased my lumber, I ensured they were all about as straight as possible so there was not a lot of difference to start with. If there was one crowning a lot more than the others, I would have put the bow up and pulled it down flat with the others. But this is outside furniture we are talking about, not a $5000 boardroom conference table.
@@HurricaneHomestead I've never built furniture (inside or outside), but I have built a number of decks, and I know that if you don't pay attention to the crown, in a year or so it just won't look right (wavy and crooked). I suppose that because a table is so small, it might not really matter.
I followed these instructions to the letter and ended up with a table 26" off the ground and only 12" between the bench and table top. I sliced the whole thing up into 16" wood blocks to use for other purposes and swore I would never try to build anything again. There are way too many measurements missing from this video.

That is a great question! If I remember correctly it was about 30 degrees. Yup. It’s 30 degrees. I’ve got a cut list at time stamp 3:38.
What was your measurement from end of table to your supports at 4:50
You're really testing my memory here now... I think I remember deciding on having a 14" overhang, or something around there.

At 2:47 Did you rip down the 2x6 or 2x8 to be less wide? Or is that a 2x10 you made into 2x8? Im wondering if i can use this video wothout a table saw, only miter saw
Ha! That was my oops. I wasn’t paying attention to my cut list and cut both the upper leg braces out of the same 2x6x8 and didn’t have another one long enough for both the bench supports. If you cut one upper brace and one bench support from each 2x6 then you’ll have enough lumber without having to rip down a 2x8 like I did.

I was planning on selling it and didn’t want to invest more into the table and wanted whoever got it to be able to make it their own.
