Weekend Reading Vlog 🌸 reading 3 popular fantasy books & loving 2 out of the 3... *mild spoilers*
I've been debating whether I'm counting the novella that goes with Sorcery of Thorns. I don't usually count extra material on my number, but it's the only other thing in the series right now! Good job finishing some series too, you have more than me!
I always love hearing about the series everyone started and to see where everyone is at by the end of the year 🫢 I definitely am trying to finish as many series as possible before the end of the year because I'm a completionist 😂 I keep most companion novels as individual because they don't have a huge connectivity to the plot so there's less stress & I don't need to remember the plot as much! This year, I've 7 series! Though a slight cheating because of couple of mangas, and 5 that is caught up with a couple DNF'd series. This video reminded me to go back and update my tracker for the series so thank you for that!
Wow, those are a lot of series. lol Great recap of your year in book series. 😊
Yeah it’s a problem 😂😳 Thank you!!
Best wishes for 2025, I hope you get some great books and fantastic stories! Happy reading!
Thank you, same to you! 😊
Great video, it made me add some more books on my list!!!
So glad to hear that!! Thanks for watching! Happy reading 😊❤️
Great video as always! I’ve read Earthseed, Prison Healer and a couple of firsts, working on One Dark Window (60% I think) and The Winners for Beartown! 💜 Read Stolen, which is the first of a trilogy, and maybe there’s another one that I can’t think of 😊 I would love to hear your favorites of the year, any other wrapup/review and of course goals for 2025 if you have any! I want to get my stats for 2024 in order before I set new goals, but it’s a frustrating order 😂 Oh and congrats on 500!!! 🥳🎉
Thanks for joining the premiere and commenting! Yay for finishing a couple series and starting a couple as well! I’m glad you’re not as overwhelmed with series as I am, it’s a problem 😂 I hope you’re liking ODW?? So curious to hear what you think haha. And thanks for your feedback on end of year videos, definitely planning on some of those! I haven’t even started to think about 2025 yet but I guess that’s coming fairly soon haha. And thank you!! 😀🎉
@@LibrariesandLattes I'm actually glad too haha! For once there's an upside to not reading as much as other people 😄 I'm liking ODW more, it got better about halfway through I thought, I'm still not completely sold but I see the potential! Looong way until 2025 ^^ Christmas is in about a month, and then there's 2-3 weeks until New Years, and the new year doesn't actually START right then, there's a bit of a vacuum before January 1st. All good.
Very true!! I definitely need to catch up on these series, or just decide to abandon some altogether, haha. I’m glad it’s getting better as you go, hopefully it will continue that way! I liked the second book even more so maybe that will be the case for you if you decide to continue 😊 And I like your idea of time, haha it’s so true and not delusional at all!!!
First... congrats on ALMOST 500 -- I'm sure you'll have hit it by the time you see this 😍 I might have to take a look of your mystery/thriller picks because I've been wanting to read some *good* ones. I'm most interested in Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone 🫢 I have no idea why I though Emily Wilde's was literally an encyclopedia 😭 I have no idea what I expected in it, but I thought that was what it'll focus on in an encyclopedia-style so I haven't thought about picking it up but now the way you described it... it might be added 👀 10/10 Beartown recommendation is my go to rec for the Winter now. It's so perfect LOL.
Aww thanks so much!!! 🎉 Yes do it, I hope you can find a good mystery/thriller this winter! Haha that’s so funny about Emily Wilde, I guess that title is a bit misleading… It is structured in journal entries from Emily’s perspective and she’s definitely got kind of a dry, scholarly style overall, but it’s more interesting than an encyclopedia for sure, especially once her love interest Wendell shows up! He’s all over the map and her complete opposite 😂 And yes Beartown is so perfect in every way!!
There are a few on here that I would definitely recommend to people myself for the winter! Specifically No Exit, The Great Alone, and Beartown..winter vibes galore (although all in a very dark and serious kind of way). Great video!
So glad you agree with some of my picks!! Those are just perfect for this time of year, or maybe after Christmas, since they are not cozy or festive in any way 😂 Thanks for watching!
So many great recs! I really want to read Six of Crows next year - it sounds so good 😍 Also you're so close to 500 subs!!!!! So exciting!
Can’t wait for you to experience Six of Crows!! And yesss! Thank you so much! 😀🎉
You look so lovely and Christmasy!! I’ve read rock paper scissors, the setting is so creepy and defo a good candidate for winter themed books! Can you believe I still haven’t read six of crows?!!! It’s so high on my list and whenever I watch your videos I’m like omg I need to start it
Aww thanks friend!! Glad you agree about Rock Paper Scissors! Haha I cannot believe it, what are you doing with your life 😂😂 Maybe this winter will be the time for you to start!
I see Rock Paper Scissors mentioned often. Your summary actually encouraged me to prioritize it!
Oh nice!! I hope you like it when you pick it up! Thanks for watching 😊
Your earrings are so cute! Okay I only read one Alice Feeny book (Paris apartment) and I didn’t like it very much! Maybe I should give her another chance. Omg No Exit sounds so scary good! Fantasy is perfect for winter too, I agree!
Yes! Great Alone is the perfect winter read!!
I think I should read Beartown next winter!
Aww thanks friend, my sister in law has an online earring business and I got them from her! Isn’t The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley?? 😂 No Exit was so good and creepy! So glad you agree about The Great Alone! And yesss, you know I fully endorse reading Beartown haha ❤️
I love your earrings! I'm not a big thriller fan but Rock Paper Scissors is intriguing me 👀 I can't wait for the 3rd Emily Wilde book! I do need to read Beartown now that everyone is raving about it 😅 I just don't want to start ANOTHER series right now 🫠 I am so ready for xmas/winter time- though in LA its a little sad 😂
Thank you, my sister in law has an online earring business and I bought them from her! Rock Paper Scissors is definitely an interesting one, I think you might like it! So excited for the third Emily Wilde as well 😍 And haha I feel you there, but Beartown is so worth it even though you’re starting a new series! Hopefully you’ll get some colder weather soon haha
I was originally planning on reading The Winners this month, but I think I'm pushing it to January. I'm excited to get to it, though. I haven't read Somewhere Beyond the Sea yet but I want to!
Totally makes sense! I’ve been prioritizing Christmas books and plan to get to The Winners at the end of the month. And I’m excited about Somewhere Beyond The Sea!! It feels more like a spring or summer book though for some reason so I might push it back 😂
I've heard so many good things about One Dark Window and I really want to read it! It sounds so interesting! I'm so glad you liked it overall. Agreed about Backman's one-liners! Sometimes he just has these little lines or phrases where I just have to set the book down and...think. He's SUCH a good writer. I've heard such mixed things about Butcher and Blackbird. I'm kind of intrigued by it though!
ODW is a really good one, I hope you can get to it sometime! And yes, exactly!! I don’t know how he does it but he’s a master 😍😂 Would be very curious to hear your thoughts on Butcher and Blackbird, I can definitely see why people don’t like it but somehow it just worked for me haha
So many good recs! ❄️ I think this will be the winter I pick up Emily Wilde! I also really want to read the Six of Crows duology, but I hear mixed opinions on whether or not you should read the Shadow and Bone trilogy first..would love to know your take on that?!
Thank you! Ooo can’t wait for you to read Emily Wilde! And yeah that’s a great question! So I personally just read the first Shadow and Bone book, didn’t love it so I didn’t read the others, and I also watched the whole Shadow and Bone Netflix show, all before reading Six of Crows. That worked pretty well for me haha but you could also just look up the general magic system of the Grishaverse/plot of Shadow and Bone before reading Six of Crows and I think you’d be fine!
I absolutely adore the Winternight Trilogy 😍 Katherine Arden is now an auto-buy author for me 🤗
Oh yay!! I really need to continue that series and read more of her books 😊❤️
Great recommendations. 😊 When you mentioned "A Christmas Carol", I remembered watching Mickey's Christmas Carol when I was little.☺
Thank you! Oh fun, I don’t know if I ever watched that one! Can’t go wrong with any form of A Christmas Carol though, haha
such good recommendations!! the only one of these i've read is everyone in my family has killed someone and I thought it was so fun! lots of these are on my tbr for this winter so this has made me even more excited! especially looking forward to beartown :)
Thank you!! That one was definitely a fun time! Can’t wait for you to get to some of these and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Beartown 😊❤️
I just got Rock Paper Scissors! I’m excited to read it!
Ooo yay, excited to hear your thoughts on it! 😊
I really want to read the Bear and the Nightingale! I think it looks perfect for winter. You know I'm recommending Lovelight farms for a winter romance - it's so good!
I think you would love The Bear and the Nightingale, I really want to continue that series and read more of her books! And I’m so glad you recommended Lovelight Farms, it was great 😊❤️
nothing better than a cozy christmas book!
So true! Anything cozy is my favorite ❤️
Can definitely second Beartown! No Exit sounds so creepy but very interesting, I might save that for when the snow has melted and it's not pitch black from 3pm though ^^
I knew you would agree about Beartown!! And yeah I would definitely wait on that one, haha don’t want you having nightmares or panic attacks 😂
I enjoy light horror in particular. Thanks for sharing your list in that genre. I'll have to check out those titles.
Nice! Hope you find some that you enjoy! Thanks for watching 😊
I have missed your wrap up videos! Hi friend 😊 you had such a great fall reading season and I loved hearing your thoughts on a lot of these! One Dark Window I loved too and this makes me want to reread Bear Town 😅
Aww hi Ana, nice to hear from you!! Thanks for watching! Definitely had a great fall reading season, so glad we both loved ODW. And I get that, haha I feel like I want to keep re-reading Beartown (and also just read the rest of his books), it’s so good 😍
@ of course! It’s been ages since I’ve been on here but it’s great to see you! I’ve gotta catch up on your videos! A lot of people are reading Bear town right now and I have fomo 😂
It was so fun doing the buddy read with you, and I'm so glad that you liked the Thirteenth Tale! I'm on the fence about reading the Spellshop - the cover is so pretty, but I'm not sure it would work for me.
Agreed, so fun and so glad I read The Thirteenth Tale!! Yeah I feel you, it could go either way for you I think. There was so much hype around it that I was expecting to love it more but I still enjoyed it overall so I’d say give it a try with low/realistic expectations 😆
Loved hearing your thoughts on one dark window!! And completely agree. I reaaally need to get into Brandon Sanderson your videos always remind me that I am clearly missing out 😂 and aww your kitty in the background! 😂 bear town is on my TBR and I didn’t know there were lots of pov’s which I love! And you’ve officially made me want to pick up butcher and blackbird 😊 this was an awesome reading wrap up!! ❤
So glad we both loved ODW! Haha you are missing out on Brando Sando 😉😆 My cats are always acting so weird when I film!! And I hope you can read Beartown and Butcher and Blackbird and enjoy them as much as I did! Thanks for watching friend ❤️
I do not know if I should try the Spellshop. I think I would feel exactly as you felt. Cozy is nice but it is not a five star 😊😊😊 One Dark window has been on my TBR for a looong time. Cannot wait ❤
Exactly!! I have had some five star cozy fantasy books but it’s rare, usually they’re more in the 4 star range but that’s still a great experience to me so I do recommend it 😊 And yesss One Dark Window is so good!!
One dark window sounds sooo good, you’ve definitely convinced me to pick this up cos I’ve not read many gothic books but this sounds like a good introduction to one!! I’ve actually just finished watching Gilmore girls for the first time, and Emily is hilarious so I’m sooo going to try and listen!!
It is so good, and especially for this time of year! I’m reading the second book now too and am loving it even more than ODW! 😍 And that’s so fun that you just watched Gilmore Girls for the first time, what big life event haha! Emily is great and I really enjoyed Kelly’s memoir ❤️
I can’t believe you found a book in your state! That seems like it would be so hard 😂 but so glad you are ready two twisted crowns! I love that duology soooo much 💖 I hope you enjoy!
I know right?? And in my own city too, amazing! 😂 And I’m loving TTC, I have about 100 pages left and I’m liking it even more than ODW! I had no idea we would get so much of Elm and Ione and I am just obsessed 😍
I'd still love an hour video from ya 😂 Now I really want to start One Dark Window!! It sounds so enticing. I'm so jealous at your high rated October 😍 Especially with Beartown? Now I'm so excited as I start reading it. Though I'm only on like page 10 at this point. But I'm mainly here for your B&B review!! It was a super fun time, for sure. It was so surprising about the fact that the "TW" felt intense but Weaver did an amazing job writing it without making it gory or a huge focus on the dark aspect of those warnings. You're never a hot take. I love all your reviews and thoughts 🤣Even when you don't like books!! You go into good detail as to why, which gives me good perspective on books that I may or may not enjoy. Also thank you for saying your throat get hoarse because I thought I was the only one 🥲 By the end of all of my wrap up, I feel so winded and lose my voice 😩Sometimes, I feel like it's a me issue. But maybe our voices just can't handle talking lots if we're not used to it (aka me)
Haha you’re so sweet, thank you!! Ahhh do it, I absolutely loved ODW and I’m reading the second book now and loving it even more! And yay for Beartown, so glad you loved it like I did. Haha I knew you would be excited for the B&B review, I’m so glad I decided to pick it up despite my fears! I think she did a great job balancing the darker elements with a more lighthearted feel, somehow 😂👏 And thank you for saying that about my reviews, I never know if they’re good or helpful so I appreciate you telling me that! And YES I feel so winded and hoarse after videos, especially wrap ups where I feel like I’m pushing through quickly! It’s a struggle for sure haha
Great wrap up. 😊"One Dark Window" Sounds interesting. I might pick it up in January, or whenever it's available on the Libby App for me. lol☺
Thank you! I hope you’re able to read One Dark Window, it’s such a fun one that you can just fly through! Good luck with getting it soon on the Libby app, I feel like that will take a while but who knows haha
@@LibrariesandLattes Thanks ☺
This was such a great wrap up video! I want to read Rewitched now! I agree that ODW is one of the most unique books! The whole synopsis is so fascinating and dark. I loved it and I'm so glad we're buddy reading TTC! I need to listen to The Third Gilmore! I don't rate memoirs either. I will be trying Ninth House again, but will not be listening to the audiobook per your suggestion. haha
Thanks friend!! I think you would really enjoy Rewitched and The Third Gilmore Girl! And good, I’m glad I convinced you on Ninth House, haha I’m usually such an audiobook proponent but some books are just not meant for that medium 😳😂
🎉 great books 📚 great channel 🎉
Why thank you!! 😀📚❤️
I had written half a]my comment and then I accidentally started the next video as this ended 😭 Anyway! I was saying that I got HP vibes from Rewitched as well, and the ministry of magic, the sense of humor was also similar in some ways. I haven’t read as much other fantasy as you have, so I didn’t want to make that comparison, like this has magic it’s like HP 😂 but I agree the vibes were there! The second book won’t be a sequel though, it will follow another character and have a theme of people pleasing. There might some overlap, it’s the same world I think, but probably not a deep dive into the romance with Rune! I’m so happy you liked so many of the books! And it was really interesting to hear your thoughts on some of the popular books. I just filmed my wrapup and book club video on Us Against You today and I feel like I missed saying some things, but you had a lot of good points. I didn’t connect as much with the second book, but it was still good. I imagine it was different to read when you have children as well, a lot of parent aspects to the story. Glad you liked O Caledonia as well 😊
Oh no, I hate when that happens!! I think that actually happened to me too with one of your videos and I had to write everything again from scratch! It’s hard when you write such long comments as we both do 😂 I’m glad you agree about the HP vibes in Rewitched! And not just because there’s magic haha. Ahh good to know about the sequel, that’s a little sad because I do love Rune but I’m also excited for another book of hers since I enjoyed this one so much so not that mad about it! I can’t wait for your wrap up and book club video! I feel like I miss things I want to say every time, I always think about it after having uploaded the video, haha. And yes all the parenting/children stuff in both books hit me hard for sure, especially having a daughter and imagining her in Maya’s place… And the quote from Beartown about how we can’t protect our children 😭😭💔💔 And yes O Caledonia was a pleasant surprise for sure!
@@LibrariesandLattes So annoying! 😂 Yeah, I wasn't super invested in the romance any way, so I'm happy to see what a book would look like with a new character! I think I'm done with the wrapup so that's coming up tomorrow! 😊
I am reading both Beartown and The Spellshop this month!!! I'm a little worried the Spellshop might be too "cutsey" for me... but we shall see 😅
Hope you love both of those! The Spellshop is definitely cutesy so it could go either way, haha I’ll definitely be curious to hear your thoughts!
@LibrariesandLattes can definitely go either way lol... but I'm trying to give it a fair chance 🤗
I feel like I am more a fan of Brandon Sanderson's standalones so I might have to pick up Warbreaker! What a great october reading month- so many cozy and fun books! Especially for it being such a hard time. I feel the same about Ninth House- it took so long to finally get going its was all over the place for most of it 😂 I just bought Hell Bent though since it seemed like it would have more of a plot 😅 O Caledonia sounds super interesting!
Yeah I think you would enjoy Warbreaker and it’s really nice not to have any commitment beyond that, haha! Glad you agree about Ninth House and I’m not the only one who struggled… I wanted to love it and really did like the concept but just the execution was not 100% there for me! Very intrigued by Hell Bent though. And yeah I definitely recommend O Caledonia! 😊
Happy reading in December, looks like you have some really good option there.
Thank you, I’m very excited and ready to bring on all the cozy reads! ❤️
Great list. I can't believe it's December already! I'm still catching up with my list books for the year. 😊
@@BasicallyNeda thanks! I know, how is it almost the end of the year?? Good luck with your end of year reading! 😀
@@LibrariesandLattes Thank you.😊 I still have to my video for my November wrap up and then my December TBR.😟
@@BasicallyNeda I haven’t even done my October wrap up yet 😂 Planning to film the October and November wrap up today though! Better late than never haha
Great tbr Chelsea! I really loved Two Twisted Crowns. I thought it was even better than the first book.
Thanks Amber!! I’m about 100 pages into TTC and am loving it so far! Love that we have multiple POV in this one 😍
@ hooray! That was one of my favorite things about the 2nd book.
Ahhhh what a cosy month you’ve got ahead of you!! Such a good mix of genres, I still need to read one dark window but I’ve heard such good things about it! 🥰
Thanks Deb, I’m so excited for all of these! Ahhh you really need to read this duology, I think you’ll love it! I’m reading Two Twisted Crowns and am loving it too 😍
Nice
Thank you!
ThankYou!!!! ....I LUV SHADY HOLLOW!!!
So glad to hear that!! Hoping I’ll love it too! 😀
the way my jaw DROPPED when you picked up the winners and it was an actual brick 😂 Shady Hollow is one of the cutest coziest books ever and perfect for reading this time of year, I hope you love it!! Can't spell treason without tea looks like a perfect cozy book, happy december reading!
I know, right?? I would expect that for a fantasy book but not literary fiction! I’m kind of glad though because I’m not ready to leave these characters and this series… And yay, so excited for Shady Hollow and Can’t Spell Treason! Bring on the coziness 😍
I've had Shady Hollow on my TBR before but didn't get to it - I can't wait to hear your review! Great picks all around. Two twisted crowns was so good!
I really need to get to Shady Hollow this month!! No more putting it back on the TBR cart 😂 I’m starting Two Twisted Crowns now, can’t wait!
Okay but yeah, The Winners look THICK. I'm still on Beartown 🤭 I agree with using the prompts to "reinforce" the reads that you're planning to read. That'll just give a lot more relax vibes for the month too! It seems like this month TBR jar is really in the vibes for what you're looking for 🥰 No real plans for December for me again... I'm barely even reading in November because of all the holidays 😂
@@itsmimiduong yeah quite thick, oof... Glad you’re on Beartown at least, hope you’re enjoying it! And yes it’s my TBR so I want to make sure I’m actually being realistic and excited about it haha, glad you agree. Totally get it with the holidays, it’s hard to read with all the festivities! Hopefully you can fit some reading in that helps you relax and escape whenever you need to 😊❤️
