    As an EV owner I have to say about this issue and SO MANY others: Come on Canada, you cannot seriously be thinking about electing a vicious and amoral liar like Pierre Poilievre, under who's sanction there is a tidal wave of lies and disinformation about EV's, climate change, and all sort of things. I'm beyond exhausted as an EV driver of having to debunk the constant falsehoods vomited forth by UCP supporters here.

      Thank you, Daryl. I always appreciate input and passionate views. I do, however, veer clear of politics and religion for obvious reasons :-). I will say it is tough sometimes being an ev owner and knowing full well how much FUD is churned out on a daily basis - and seeing that this disinformation strategy - like tobacco and climate change before it - often works to dissuade people from the real evidence. I only hope my little channel can do its part to shine a light on how amazing evs can be for the vast majority of individuals. I really appreciate your perspective. Keep it comin'!

    It’s Bob again! I have been enjoying your trip reports. I have a question regarding your TT-30 charge adapter. You mentioned that it worked with the Ford charger. Did you test it overnight? The reason I ask is I do not think that charger is Smart, by that I mean does it reduce the charge rate to 24 Amps? You can not pull continuous power of more than 80% of the breakers rating. On a 30 Amp breaker that is 24 amps. The stock Ford charger to my knowledge is 12 amps at 120 Volts and 32 amps at 240 volt. That would blow the 30 amp breaker in about 5-10 minutes.. I am reasonably close to pulling a deal for my LIghtning and if the charger will not do this I have another charger in mind. Keep up the great reports, Bob

      Hi Bob! Great to hear from you. I think I'm mapping out your spring route :-) ! I'm not 100% sure on this one - a question for the Ford Forum or Ford directly - but I've used it twice overnight with no trip at all, nor any heat sites on the pluig or the outlet (I've checked). I think it is because it is drawing at 120v, not 220/240v. A tt-30 socket delivers 120V 30A (24A continuous) service, I believe, but I'm also not an electrician. :-)

    Living in Norway there are allot of benifits to EV’s. Dont pay for toll stations, cheaper parking in cities, sometimes in the sunner when electricity is cheap you actually get payed to charge your car. and driving is a EV is a fraction of the price of Diesel. I will be saving USD 4k a year end this does not include service charges.

      There are amazing options in China but likely only going to make their way to S. America and Europe due to tariffs. It's a missing segment, for certain. The vehicles that fit the bill are all expensive. I think we'll get there as more models hit the market. Does the Chevy Equinox or Blazer EV fit the bill? Both are closer to a minivan and are very inexpensive. I'm not sure about rear access space for the wheelchair though.

    For those that it works for, I think EVs are fine. My wife bought a Kona EV thinking she would save money on fuel. After 3 months of range anxiety (it's real) and inconvenient charging at home and/or expensive public charging, she traded it in for a gas engine vehicle (and lost 20K doing it). This is just the reality for some. Hydrogen EV may be a good alternative in the future, who knows. The Ramcharger may be promising too.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs 2 дні тому

      That is unfortunate news. I haven't heard of DCFCs costing more than gas, or charging at home being somehow inconvenient. Did you hook up a NEMA 14-50 plug and charge at Level 2 at home, or were you trickle charging at Level 1 off a regular 110 outlet? I wake up to a full ev at home and never have to use fast chargers. I guess she had really long commutes? I'm interested in the region you live where this is a big problem. There are more remote or protectionist areas where range anxiety is still a thing, but it is rapidly disappearing. In fact, as I drive all of Canada, only in two provinces on long trips, or when going into the least populated parts of the country do I find serious gaps anymore.

    The oil cartel will do and say anything to try to stop evs, but ev sales continue to increase, even with that propaganda. A Linkedin article I read recently shows that in the US, cryptocurrency "mining" used more electricity in 2023 than was used in the state of Utah that year.

      Don't those statistics really show you how few EVs there are? I guarantee you that unless the companies can make a profit at this, they will continue to make the over-priced high end EVs that the average person cannot afford. That will result in a lack of mass adoption. Now with the 100% tariffs against Chinese EVs and their components, the curve is declining in EV sales, no longer the juicy curve Ford & GM were anticipating.

    As of last week we are a dual EV household in rural southern Alberta. (Lightning and EV9) We are 50 min from the nearest city and 3 hours from the nearest major city, I have lost count how many times I have been told EVs aren't practical for Albertans and that what I'm doinging is impossible.

    • @SB-xu8pi
      @SB-xu8pi 2 дні тому

      @@shaneb9160 I wonder how your viewpoint will change if you had your power limited so that others can charge. The grid can’t and won’t support everyone plugging in to charge. The govt of Canada has no plans to increase the capacity to the level needed. So if your power was being cut off regularly, to the point where you can’t actually charge both vehicles, would it be time to get an ice vehicle again, or just stay home more often?

    • @ScubaSteveCanada
      @ScubaSteveCanada 2 дні тому

      @@SB-xu8pi What makes you think everyone needs to charge their EV at the same time? I've owned two Hyundai EVs over 4 years and the main issue in Ontario, at least, is the poor reliability of the infrastructure and lack of chargers in rural areas, not an overloading of the power grid. Edit: Also, many factories have been outsourced resulting in no need to upgrade the infrastructure.

      We live 45 minutes from the nearest centre, poor charging opportunities, but our Tesla model 3 long range is our daily driver even at -20 and windy snowfall. We were surprised how easy it is. Where we live winter gas is a challenge. Everyone has gerrymandering cans of gas in their garages as backup.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs 2 дні тому

      @@SB-xu8pi The only threat to the grid, if we're actually utilizing facts, is from AI, data centres, online gambling and crypto - all of which are the fastest growing sectors of energy demand, but still behind Oil & Gas as the #1 increase in energy demand in Alberta. The grid can more than handle it, especially being that 20% of all vehicles sold today are already evs, and most charge at home, and total residential electricity use only accounts for under 7% of all electricity demand in the province. So again, false. Meanwhile, renewable energy development is being irrationally restricted by the current Alberta government, laughably citing 'environmental and scenic view concerns, as a protectionist move to the traditional energy sector. Meanwhile, O&G has been doing massive damage to agricultural lands and destroying massive swaths of 'scenic views' for over a century. So if you're concerned about grid development and expansion of cheap affordable energy in Alberta, it's not the Government of Canada but the Alberta one restricting the capacity, and it's not evs gobbling up the grid.

      What good is towing to a Provincial Park or boondocking if you can't charge the truck back up? Have you researched the cost to charge? Almost as expensive or even more expensive then if you used an ICE vehicle. You need to carefully plan your trips and hope that the chargers you count on are actually working. Good luck with that.

    • @havnfunb4
      @havnfunb4 2 дні тому

      I am very familiar with the charging infrastructure here in NB, Canada. I convinced the wife to purchase and Equinox EV and we really enjoy the trips we have taken with and I’m up on the costs of charging. I would have no problem making it to all the campgrounds we used to visit with my gasser and I don’t mind setting up camp and then taking the time to charge it at a fast charger prior coming home. If I was in the states it might be a different story with towing and the costs of charging vs. Gas. When your talking $1.60+ per litre and the truck holding 100 litres, it not hard to see the cost savings. If we were taking long camping trips and having to disconnect the camper that might be more of a pain but I don’t see that happening or it being a 1 time during the year event. My current problem is the charging infrastructure in Nova Scotia. It’s terrible

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs 2 дні тому

      @@ScubaSteveCanada I suggest researching the vehicle they're ordering. Even the most expensive DCFCs are still half the price of gas for the same range. And his truck can tow an equal range to most ICE trucks, even at maximum payload, which is 12,000 pounds. Carefully plan your trip? You mean like diesel, where many gas stations off the beaten path still don't always have it ( I passed through numerous communities with none), to the point where if travelling long distances, many diesel truck guys rely on the app DieselFinder, to stitch their trip route based on fuel availability. Take a quick moment of research to visit the main page of Plugshare in your research and note the massive number of chargers today across the country, including hyper-fast chargers being installed, but there are provinces that suck, yes. Saskatchewan and Manitoba both have issues, and I've looked and planned for Nova Scotia's supposedly abysmal 'network'. I've driven to Yukon, Flin Flin and all stops in between with an electric truck with 150km less towing range than @havnfunb4, so I think he'll be fine. Their planning will involve jumping in their truck, because its onboard trip planner determines when the truck needs to charge, plans the best route, and preloads charging stops en route. Even if one charger is down, there is usually others available, unless in remote regions, where gas is of equal concern. The Silverado EV also charges at 350kw, which means the wait times will be minimal. Lastly, most campsites with plugs welcome ev trucks with rvs to plug in on site, something you definitely can't do with an ICE truck. So, as I discovered at campsites in every province I've travelled, I've woken up to a full truck for free. Luck has nothing to do with it. It does depend on region but, for the most part, especially with the Silverados incredible range, he shouldn't have a worry.

Tesla has the right idea. Buy online. No hassle. No sitting in a show room for hours. No salesman BS. No crazy markups. No I have to see my manager BS. With Tesla you can buy a vehicle in 5 minutes or less online. The dealers have no one to blame but themselves. The dealers are dragging the legacy auto makers down with them. Thanks as always for the great comments and support! I have topped 13k on the odometer; 11,800 of those are the trip. My efficiency has sucked, mainly due to the fact that I drove headlong into the worst prairie windstorm of the season, which continued for over a week - and no matter which direction I went, it liked to shift also and buffet my front bumper. Overall trip range is at 30.3kwh/100km, but the moment I left the prairies, the most recent 3k has improved to 28.7kwh/100km. The combined climate use, accessories, and exterior temp have average a paltry 7% of overall energy use, which is incredibly good, especially being the outside temperature is dropping to freezing at some points, and I am not plugging in overnight for the most part. I have turned off my automatic software updates to ensure it doesn't wipe all my data away. I'm using Trip 1 to track the overall numbers, Trip 2 for each province, and my My Trip - well, it's kind of useless being it doesn't give you an option not to clear every time you stop for coffee or bathroom break. I absolutely love the ride quality - being it's a truck - and the comfort of the interior is pretty impressive, being I' sitting in it for 12 hours per day. Thanks again, and chat soon!

    In the United States, in Michigan back roughly in 2013,14 15 when they passed the law that you could grow marijuana in your house as a caregiver, there were thousands and thousands of guys hooking up massive lighting systems in their basements, and nothing ever happened with power outages so I know that Evies are not going to tax the electrical grid very much

      Air conditioners, electric ranges, and refrigerators drew huge current from the grid when introduced. Even today, there are brownouts from overuse during droughts, etc. The gird was expanded and modernized as the use of electricity increased. This is no different. As mentioned in the video, if people are genuinely worried about the grid being over taxed, they should question cloud storage, data centres and oil and gas expansion, being all three are the fastest growing users of energy. Thanks for the comment, Michael!

    The combination of an ICE functioning as a generator for an all electric drivetrain is a proven technology in the locomotive industry where you need a high torque, reliable, and cost effective propulsion system. Having a daily driver that runs on the reduced cost per mile with home charging and environmentally conscious truck driving as a pure EV on daily driving coupled with a truck that will likely tow an RV 300+ miles on 27 gallons of gas is outstanding. No need for EV charging stations, software issues, or even locating diesel which can be a problem when traveling in remote areas. The question is the upfront cost to purchase and the cost of maintenance for two operating systems and how long or if there will be a cost savings of ownership to offset the upfront and maintenance costs. If those numbers are favorable I could see this format working well as planned and/or with a smaller ICE and smaller battery in both a full sized and mid-sized truck.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs 3 дні тому

      Great comment, Kent. As I mentioned in the video, this tech has been demonstrated successfully in many applications - but there's a reason it hasn't been used in light duty vehicles. As Uncle Tony's Garage stated (ua-cam.com/video/aFFeJFfY35c/v-deo.htmlsi=OMDRGkadEimHEPHk ), the concept is a good one. The best option for range extension for a light duty ev, however, is technically still in a series hybid format, but instead of integrating a complex system, it would be to have an auxiliary port input to charge on the go, allowing truck owners to add solar, diesel, or tri-fuel generators along with additional lithium-ion 'tidy tanks' as aftermarket options, something that only impacts efficiency and range when attached. A small, efficient range extender built into a system is not the most optimal approach compared to the above, but if done compactly and creatively could offset many of the downsides of a fullblown series hybrid truck. The Ramcharger does neither, adding incredible layers of complexity, weight, and numerous fail points. A range extender should never need a 27-gallon gas tank, or a v6 for that matter, nor the multitude of associated parts required to house an internal combustion engine. The fact that the battery is a robust 92kwhs but only delivers a max. 145 miles at best (probably less once certified), speaks to its inefficiency. If all that added weight was removed and the focus was instead on pure ev range, the truck tops 300~350 miles, as demonstrated with its sister truck, the RAM REV 1500. The Silverado EV & the GMC Sierra EV both already surpass 300 miles towing, and at their maximum payloads, all without a gas range extender. At this rate, Ramcharger will be outdated before it rolls off the assembly line, but I imagine a lot of people will buy it anyway - that's if parent company Stellantis survives the next few years.

This summer I had to make a detour in Outlook to use the charger…worked great (100 kw). Still waiting on my NACS Tesla adapter and the Flo charger in Preston Crossing (50 KW) is too slow. Definitely seems like Saskatchewan is moving way too slow in regards to EV infrastructure. However, two places I travelled to this summer, Rosthern and Watrous, are getting DC fast charging so maybe these gaps are starting to close. I know a lot of people get the memberships on the charging networks and then turn on and turn off the membership only for road trips. Not sure if that would work with the Tesla membership. The DCFC charging prices are out of control almost everywhere now. One thing that is still true from watching your trips and my own rural driving is get the biggest battery EV you can, and drive conservatively until you know for sure you are going to make the distance you planned to cover to the next DCFC. People say we don't need longer range EV's. I beg to differ. Range gets impacted by weather, cold, wind so having the largest battery possible that charges quickly is a big deal. Better battery tech is coming that should make this much easier in the years ahead. Make sure you have a BUFFER. I have saved my bacon a few times by keeping a healthy buffer with a plan b to limp to if there is a problem. I think people watch some of the Out of Spec videos and watch them drive down to single digit SOC. That is WRECKLESS in the real world. I wish they would put up a disclaimer and warn people NOT to imitate their races and range tests and push it to the bottom of the battery pack. Most of the chargers in rural areas are slow fast chargers, but we are glad just to have them. You pray that they are going to be working. That really makes me angry when these chargers don't work like a gas pump. ANYONE should be able to roll up, present a payment method at the charger and it should just work. It is quite irritating to need apps, memberships, no transparency on what it is going to cost. Some of these charging networks place large holds on your card. Then I have heard people then going on down the road and try to charge and then their card is denied and they have to fight with the CPO and the bank while stranded out on the road. Great time. It is probably a good idea to have 2 methods of payment in case something strange happens like this on your primary payment method. Thanks for putting up the maps. That helps us understand where you are, or the area you are talking about. When I hear people talking about how we have the chargers we need. What this tells me is that person goes no where off of the main beaten path, ever tries to go the shortest route between point A and B in rural areas for any reason. Their lack of knowledge shows. We need a LOT more DCFC. Make the gas station great again and put chargers everywhere you have a gas station. I 100% agree driving an EV has an element of adventure to it and I like it. Having to stop for a charge I thought would be a real problem, but it really hasn't turned out that way. It forces me to stop, see something I would not have seen, and it makes for a more relaxed trip as long as I know I have a place I can charge. Oh, just another food for thought. Most EV's today don't even come with a spare tire. Imagine being out here in the middle of nowhere and no spare and having a problem. At least Ford gives you an option for a spare tire on the Lightning. I hope they don't change this with the T3. Cybertruck, nope, Silverado, nope, Sierra, nope, Rivian, nope... Ford is the only ones with a spare option. If you drive in remote areas having a spare is just common sense.

It truly is pathetic how these 'pumps' are not regulated, and reqiuired to be certified, calibrated, and maintained in the same manner. Gov'ts on every side of every aisle still treat these things as novelties rather than critical infrastructure. Not a single public dime should go to any charger install that does not include a binding agreement to the units uptime and reliability., That would be a step. Thanks for contributing to the conversation!

      My truck runs almost exclusively on hydro - I'm in BC - no coal or natural gas. I received no incentives. Same can't be said for every single processing cycle of internal combustion. The largest user of energy in Canada - the Oil & Gas sector, burns coal & natural gas to make electricity that then gets wasted in extracting, processing, shipping, and refining the oil and gas to then burn the oil and gas, which makes your whole statement quite funny. It's the most inefficient means of creating locomotion since the coal-fired steam engine, especially when you factor in that every time your engine goes through its combustion cycle, over 70% of all that precious processed, refined, energy-intense fossil fuel never makes it to the tires as locomotion. It's lost in heat, and through the numerous down-cycles of pistons, cam shaft, crank shaft, transmission, differential and axle, not to mention fuel pumps, oil pumps, serpentine belts, fans, power steering pumps, etc. None of which exists in an ev. 91% of every electron makes it to the tires in the form of torque. Even if every electron for an ev was made with coal, it's still more efficient from incubation (mining, manufacturing) to end use, compared to internal combustion vehicles. I can provide you numerous studies, both corporate and public, to back this up. Can you back up any of your claims? I guess you also overlooked the $27 billion in taxpayer $s that went to O&G just last year - and that's just in Canada, and the fact that the Alberta Tar Sands lost money from 1972 until the late 1980s and were subsidized billions annually from provincial and federal funding to prop up its 3:1 losses per barrel. Your 'case' is so full of holes, It really is a wasted effort to keep debating such obvious misinformation, especially as you fill up your tank with the largest recipient of public funds to private co.s in the last 50 years. The Trans Mountain Pipeline fiasco - one project out of hundreds of O&G corporate-welfare deals - took more public funds for a single project than the entire individual, corporate, and institutional ev incentive programs combined. Hey, here's an idea so you don't keep wasting so many people's time having to re-hash this garbage over and over again: Try using Google - I hear everyone is doing it.

On the Canadian side, it's 75 cents, and then 85 cents at the next Canadian location where there are no competitive chargers in the area. On a rambling side note watching oldest to newest also helps the channel creator by adding views and comments and helping them grow in the UA-cam alternate reality universe (is that a real thing?) Keep those cameras rolling!

      @@lewisrountreeiii2937 Wow, I'm honoured ("Hey Honey, this guy just said I have a social skill...")! Seriously, that's exactly what a tiny channel like mine needs to make a go of this. It's a struggle to start but I'm passionate about what I'm doing. I'll keep yelling at myself, "Cut! Okay...Take 341..."
