KC Roberts "Maria" drum solo by Jacob Aylward at Beaches Jazz 2016
Here is drummer Jacob Aylward performing the signature drum solo from "Maria" during KC Roberts Live Revolution's final night at the 2016 Beaches Jazz Fest. Massive shoes were left behind after Chino De Villa left the band, but Jacob fills them snuggly. Compared to other videos of this same solo, my opinion is that this band will not suffer in the least from the personnel change, in fact will only continue to get better and more recognized. By far the most energizing band on the street that night, KCLR continued to draw huge crowds after 7 years playing in the same spot. Props to Aylward for knocking it out of the park.

Dual level 4x8 layout test
Переглядів 8 тис.10 років тому
Here is a carpet test of the layout I ran on our GT3 club display in Woodstock, Ontario. This new club format has me exploring different variations of 4x8 layouts for each train show, which keeps the display fresh for each show. See the final form in this video of the Woodstock Show: ua-cam.com/video/3Kf3uT45YOU/v-deo.html
Darrell's new train club -- GT3

Here is a video from my new train club, which we've branded Greater Toronto Toy Trains, or GT3. My buddy, John, and I defected from the earlier 3RM group and started our own thing. We display at local train shows, assembling all the track and accessories onsite using tables provided by the venue. We've gotten a lot of really good responses from vendors and show-goers alike, so we suspect we're ...
Big Boy at Lindsay Train Show_Day 2

Day 2 of Triple Rail Modelers (3RM) display at the Lindsay, Ontario, Train Show in March 2012. After watching the HD footage we shot the day before, we decided to focus on running trains that would make for some good video. So, we lashed up as many long consists as we could for one setup, smoked out the crowd for another and lastly, ran a trio of engines to simulate our new logo. Again, the kid...

Triple Rail Modelers (3RM), freshly armed with a new logo, take on the crowd at the Lindsay (Ontario) Model Railway Show, March 2012. This was a two day event, and as this video shows, day one was spent just being in the moment, running the trains we brought and entertaining the kids. Our table height was the lowest for a large layout, so the kids just flocked to our trains, able to view them f...
Christmas bridge diesel chase.mov

For this year's Christmas layout, I kept the fuss to a minimum, keeping all the themed elements in the area suspended above the stairs. The roadways on either side of the bridge match up perfectly with the roads in the background image, a bit of serendipity since I originally made that backdrop for the opposite end of the stairs (see last years video). To add some intrigue to this video, I star...
Big Boy takes on Woodstock
Переглядів 77612 років тому
The guys from Triple R Modelers (recently renamed Triple Rail Modelers) club invited me to join them in Woodstock, Ontario, for the first train show of the season. After helping with setup, I was able to let the Big Boy stretch it's legs a bit and blow some smoke, sharing the track with other Joy Line, Marx, Lionel and MTH locos. I also got to see my new Santa Fe Alco diesel do a few laps along...
Christmas bridge 2010
Переглядів 54913 років тому
Here is this year's installment of the Christmas Bridge video. Even though it's still a temporary setup, I was able to introduce some scenery this year. The quaint town with the carolers at one end carries the Christmas theme, while a construction crew works on some tunnels at the other (which will hopefully be completed in time for NEXT year's setup). The whole array with the village and track...
Lionel 1060 on inclined 4x8 layout
Переглядів 32 тис.14 років тому
This is my recent acquisition, a Lionel 1060, on my temporary layout. I wanted to show it has the capability of pulling four cars up the incline (but just barely). This is a cobbled together set, with the locomotive, helicopter flatcat (missing the helicopter) and caboose from one person (thank you Jonathan), and the tender and boxcar from another (thank you Robert). Total cost, less than $50. ...
Big Boy and Commodore on inclined 4x8 looping layout
Переглядів 64 тис.14 років тому
Here is a temporary 4x8 setup I did for Canada Day. I wanted something that would run both my K-line Big Boy and my new Marx Commodore. This is mostly used track, with the exception of the long straights and the 42" curves. Half the fun is getting old track to do what you want it to. Stay to the end to see some POV shots, and my recent purchase of hand-made flatcars to which I've lashed some 30...
Big Boy on Mountain Bridge

I couldn't resist the urge to see this train run in the wild. Since I lack the patience to assemble a mountain scene around my actual train setup, instead I chose to use the tools I know best, Photoshop and AfterEffects. Here then is the result of way too many hours trying to key a moving object using various forms of difference mattes, and another dozen traveling masks. To see this train in it...
Big Boy on Christmas Bridge
Переглядів 5 тис.14 років тому
This is a temporary train setup that I installed for Christmas 2009. The O-qauge Big Boy (K-line) runs along a shelf on either side of the open staircase and crosses on a bridge styled after the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena. The bridge is made of MDF and was put together in a couple of weekends. The snow was my wife's idea. This is the first time I've had the Big Boy running since finding...
I see some Marx 34" diameter pieces for the upper level, combined with 42" curves?
Yep, you are correct. The inside figure 8 is standard Lionel O-27 fare with a Marx crossover. Down front, the inside curve is made up of three O-27 and one Marx O-34; the outside curve is half Marx O-34 and half Lionel O-42. Up in the back, the curve is all Marx O-34.
Very cool 😎. I am running 2 sets on a 4 X 8 board . New subscriber to you today. Mike Espo .
This is great! Lots of action in a small spot. I'd love to know what track pieces I'd need to completely recreate this. Do you have plans or something?
Nice!
Cool video. 👍
Nice train! I'm so ashamed I read big boy commode 😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣🤣🚽🚽
did that big boy acutely run on o27
Very nicely done Darrell 😀 Somehow didn't think the Big Boy would see the business end of those reversing loops 🚂 What are your curve radii? (radiuses?)
O gauge is measured in diameter, so the "O" designation is used. The inside figure 8 is standard O-27 fare with a Marx crossover. Down front, the inside curve is made up of three O-27 and one Marx O-34; the outside curve is half Marx O-34 and half O-42. Up in the back, the curve is all Marx O-34. The k-line Big Boy is rated for O-31, but I found it could manage a bit of O-27, but just barely. It tends to derail occasionally. You can see more of the Big Boy running on my larger layout here: ua-cam.com/video/N0SpezyvydY/v-deo.html
@0:55. I see what you did there... Excellent!
A very nice layout and video. I also have plans to incorporate a figure-8 and inclines into my expanded layout plan, but, considering my space limitations, will probably stick with HO scale.
That transition was unbelievable.. and unbelievable to see a big boy on what looks like O-31 curves. I'm so used to seeing O-72 for big boys.
You got me. I didn't notice the slight of hand. I literally had to rewind a bit and see what I missed and then I noticed the transition. I was wondering, "Wasn't that a different train?" Nice, I don't even have a layout yet. Got plenty of trains, no layout.
Very cool
I love this layout..what switches did you use
It was so long ago... I think I used Marx switches while the Commodore was running, then swapped them out for early Lionel ones to run the Big Boy. You can see them transition out at 1:02.
Great job! I love this layout!
wow what big boy is this
It's a K-line, made in 1993 I think, it's semi-scale, so it's anywhere from 1/58 to 1/62 instead of 1/48, double-articulated so it can take these tighter turns.
@@DarrellJMartin oh ok
I like the layout! Great idea for a 4 x 8 platform!
Sick!!!
Does any one know how I can get a materials list for this layout
Thomas, Take a look at the comment I left below, 8 years ago, which describes the track diameters used as well as the straights. Everything is O-27 profile track, albeit in different diameters. I'm also in the process of updating my club's website which, once completed, will have a space for layout drawings including this one. I'll post a note to this thread when that's ready.
Holy Crap! I had no idea that a "BIG BOY" can operate on a 4 x 8' layout and hit those curves flawlessly. Impressive!
It's a K-line which is semi-scaled, and technically it's only supposed to run on 0-31 curves, but in this layout as long as I stayed out of the figure-8 it ran fine, even though some of the curves had a mix of 0-27 and larger diameters. If you look carefully, you can see the locomotive wobble a bit on the down-front curve, just before going into the switch. It's actually off the track, and the switch nudges it back on.
Wow! I would have never noticed if you didn't mention it.
Its a baby one from mth.they do 031
Look at the wheels
That's a great track plan for a small space like that! You've given me a great thought for my layout! Thank you!
After making the above layout in 2010, I joined a group with a modular layout that ran at local (Southern Ontario) train shows. It was nice, but it didn't have the same level of interest that a good table-top layout has. I was with them from Jan 2012 til June 2013. Then, my buddy from that group, John, and I created our own layout, GT3, which is based on 027 profile track and is closer to the sort of layout you see in this video, only with 6-7 trains instead of just one. We have been operating since Jan 2014. If you like this layout, go to our channel and see what we've done with a mixture of small and large track configurations.
I really really like the real rocks and brick effects...gives me inspiration for my train project>>>must be from the Laurentian shield....I wanna give a BIG SHOUT OUT TO SPAINISH ONTARIO !!!
Brilliant :)
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.LOVE ELEVATED TRESTLE TRACK!!!!! IT'S NOT EASY. IT'S ALMOST BRAIN SURGERY.
freakin AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great layout! Oldschool toy trains are very captivating!
Darrell, has your club gotten of the ground? I hope all is well with you the Christmas.
+Marty Jeruzal It certainly has! We've done an average of 7 shows a year for the last two years. Our next show in Woodstock, Ontario, January 10 will mark our 2 year anniversary of appearances. Our best and favourite shows so far have been the ones at the Toronto Roundhouse at the end of May, just for the fact the audience is caught off guard, having not been prepared to see a model train display of this size. Thanks for the comment. Good to know people are interested.
Nice layout!!
Well done... neat bridge......
Fun layout, and great looking flats. Particularly enjoyed the magical transition at 0:56! In goes a Commodore, out comes a Big Boy! Well done.
Yup, that was a great job on that.
Just another comment: the bottom layout cannot be built without a bit of custom track cutting, so I'll be posting a layout with measurements on our website, GT3trains.com, soon.
Excellent! I must remember that arrangement for my next train show way down here in South Florida. What is that little thing on the figure-8? Bill
Ah, I see the previous note with the answer. Good idea.
Nice idea keeping it fresh. Also keep notes on what grabs the attention of the visitors.
Looks like a good start. Good luck with the GT3.
Nice layout plan. What is running on the upper track?
It's a Japanese cookie tin that's printed up to look like a Japan Rail commuter train car. I dropped an old steam locomotive motor into it. Until now, never really had any use for it other than as a once-around-the-track novelty.
Darrell Martin Very imaginative!
@@DarrellJMartin I love the idea. My first guess was one of those maintenance cars they used on the railway back then.
@@DarrellJMartin very intuitive!!
Well done train show video.
That's cute
UFA !!! Da uma Canseira so de olhar,
I think Darrel's Christmas layout tops this. It's just plane simple and sweet.
That's a great track plan. I definitely LIKE it.
This is by far my fav. 4x8 layout. Since, I have the space for a 4x8 layout. I like more of the Lionel 027's anyway. I like the more conventional size , I'm not a scale fanatic. this is great runnng Geeps, Alco's. Even F3's etc....And, I like those slab of stones, whatever they are that u're using. Great layout. For the space alot going on.
why is it going 140 scale mph?
That's as fast as it could go. Ah, memories...
My 8X8 rain board fold up against the wall of my lanai - i SELL THE PLANS ON eBAY "DIY PLANS FOR TRAIN BOARD"
No trick really. It's a K-line, and this video was made shortly after I purchased the track, so maybe it's just clean rails. I haven't checked it lately to see if it still runs as smooth.
Go to red cliff ski lodge dot com.
Me again, What is your trick to keep the caboose light from flickering...?
Hey Derrell, Where did you find the Photo for the background. I hane a 12' span with 4 Lionel Extentions Bridges on it. I'd love to get that printed out to hang on the back side. I'm trying to video my loop with our iPad so watch for that mess to show up here on UA-cam.
cool transition effect!
