Thanks for sharing this, I can defo relate. I thought I was doing really badly and that I was the only one who felt like this. I was really positive in hospital and for a couple of weeks after coming out. But since I have been really struggling. I had surgery on my leg 6 weeks ago and have a long rehab process ahead. Also having difficulties in my relationship at the same time so struggling without that support. I haven’t been able to go back to my flat since the surgery because of all the stairs so have been going between my parents and my partners and friends. Really want some sort of stability and sense of normal right now. Your video has helped me feel more normal emotionally though so thank you!

I no longer have peristasis in my colon. I need lots of laxatives so I can go. I feel sick most days. My dr said don’t rush surgery. Keep taking laxatives until they stop working. My GI said I could come out worse than when I went in. I don’t have a choice because without a colectomy or colostomy I will die. I will need some type of ostomy. I’m scared but that’s my life. This has ruined my life. I hope surgery can help somewhat.

From my experience, once you have breached the primary 'seal', those extenders and those fabric extensions are not keeping output from your skin. You've breached the primary, output is getting to the edges underneath IT, so, time to change. My output seems to occur mostly in the early hours of the morning, anywhere from 12:00 a.m. till empty. I usually awaken by 2:30 and typically have to empty about 2 or 3 times right away. Leaks happen at these times. When they do, you hope that the 'safety flanges' have done their job and you don't have too big a mess.

I hope your surgery goes well and you recover well. I had ilesotomy surgery in Tampa in 2017 and it has changed my life for the better. My recover took a while and I tried a few different products until I found the right combination. The internet and UA-cam ideas are a good source of information and suggestions. Hang in there and good luck with your surgery. Where are you having your surgery and is it a permanent colostomy or ileostomy? I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Watching this again two year's later and I'm still so angry. Is it because we are women? I complained of lower abdomen pain for four years! I was given endless antidepressants...which just didn't compute. The pressure was so severe that I struggled to urinate. And one day my intestines ruptured and poisoned every square inch of my body. My organs shut down and I died only to be brought back with an ostomy bag and the worse pain I've ever experienced. I will never be ok again...and had they done a simply CT scan they would have seen I had severe diverticulitis. Four year's later and I get constant blockages...candida everywhere and can drink nothing but water and eat bland foods. When I beg for help they offer me antidepressants...because that will solve bleeding from my stoma.

If you’re wearing a two piece snap the bag on your flange before you put it on. I had an illeostomy 17yrs ago so this wasn’t new for me but the supplies are sooo much better believe me! Open the bible, to any where actually. The psalms, psalm 27. Read it. Know it. FEEL it. See how you feel. I'm a homeless, disabled, 62 year old veteran, with cptsd, and no one. I live in my van for over 4 years, and must have a 5 level, lumbar spine fusion, which is rare, but it was scheduled for April 17 th. But got postponed the day before for other health issues. My rotton family, are narcissists, and flying monkeys, and could care less if I was dying on their floor. So, alone, no home, no bathroom, no help, no shower, no fridge, no anything. But my hope, is NOT ,for the things of this weak world. This IS, just a bus stop. I can tell you, that if it were not true, I would be long dead. But I am here still, suffering still, yay. But not for long. Read it.

You can try out stoma shields which allow the output to move away from the stoma. This is especially helpful when you hear clothing over your bag. Also, I have had good luck with convex bags. When I apply the flange, I don't use a complete barrier ring. I use about a third of it. I shape it so that it seals around the edge of the opening and I leave a little bit into the inside of the opening so that is turtle necks the stoma to help seal around it. I stopped using powder as I figure it is not allowing the ring to stick the base of the stoma. I also warm up the flange and barrier ring with a heating pad before applying it to my skin to make it stickier.

I went through so much with doctors at age of 4 but I had 3 arthroscopic shoulder surgeries in 2005 and 2006. I didn’t understand why I was feeling really sad after the surgeries I had. My parents weren’t those kind of people you could talk to because they would tell me to suck it up or deal with it so deep down I had to hide my feelings and I mentally blocked everything out at that time in my life I was only a young teenager. I wish I was able to talk to the doctors and nurses how I was really feeling after the surgeries. I still have dreams that I’m having surgery and I sometimes wake up crying. I never talked about my surgery experiences and what was going through my mind at that time. I hope I can talk to someone who can help me. I’ve been dealing with these feelings for a long time. I do my best to put a smile on my face and go on with my day. I still cry about it.

i am almost 1 year out with pee pouch and i remember the days of leaks and nurses coming in. I started doing my own kits last september and I have had only 2 leaks. my fault i rushed.. I recommend using either a slim eaken ring on the flange or a dab of paste which is like caulk...it is not adhesive and the best recommendation for active people is use a belt that attaches to the wafer and is adjustable and it gives the added pressure to hold the wafer against the tummy as tight or loose as you like.. I have put kits on with no ring, no past and it lasted 8 days... with belt. good luck
