How on earth is that simple.
@@richtomlinson7090 to each their own 🤷🏼♂️ it works for me and requires a lot less effort and less mess than tipping the mower, as per in the manual. But thanks anyway for watching and taking the time to share your thought!
change the oil in the fall so you don't have dirty oil sitting all winter in the engine
@@gord7025 good tip, thanks!
I thought that was a new mower in a hospital surgery room
Car wax works as well and might be more delicate on your car paint
@@SuperBrainStorms hey, that’s a good tip, I’ll have to try it out sometime but not really hoping for paint transfer on any of my vehicles at the same time 😂
This video must feature along with all those other DIY video from China.
My honda stays running!
I just remove the drain bolt or get an oil pan and empty through the dip stick hole by lifting the mower on its side. This is a great idea but seems overkill for a light weight push mower but whatever you do you man .🤘😎
This really works. Thank you for sharing this.
@@rodcajulis2534 yay, I’m glad it worked for you! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Or you can lay your mower on its side and drain the oil like Briggs and Stratton saids you should do,
@@daviddaigle2419 yup
Wait!!! You forgot to disconnect the spark plug so the mower doesn’t accidentally pull its own bail handle back and start itself up!! 😂
Game changer, thank you 🫱🏾🫲🏼
I agree the manuals that come with this mower SUCKS
I'm glad I watched this vid also. I just got done watching your eze grout cleaning review video and thought I'd check what else you cleaned. I had to scrape up 1/2-3/4" of disgusting greasy grime off the kitchen floors from the previous owners with a putty knife. It gagged me!! I have eze grout cleaner, but have not used it yet. I also bought a steam cleaner and have been steam cleaning the grout in my HUGE kitchen, dining room, laundry room, mudroom, front entry, and all the way around the walkway of the living room downstairs along with and all bathrooms upstairs and down. The steam cleaner is awesome! I still have to get down on my 56 yr old knees and do a little at a time, but what a massive difference!! I will be done with the cleaning and repairing grout maybe by tomorrow. I'll seal all of the grout tomorrow. 😳😳 *I will sell my farm and move before I have to do this again!!* For everyone else, buying a direct spot steam cleaner with attachments is your best friend as a homeowner. I wish I had one when I had my rentals and for all my other homes. Game - CHANGER!
@@terrim.602 thanks for the kind words and sharing your experience. I appreciate you watching my videos and good luck with finishing your project!
Wait! You leave oil from the last season in the bottom of the engine?😮 And then, in the spring, with old, and now acidic oil, run it through the engine? Seriously? Okay. Now! Here's what you're supposed to do: Get brand new oil, an air filter, take the blade off, have it sharpened or buy a new one and have that sharpened. Then you tip the mower on its side toward the oil filler neck. Let the oil drain out until nothing's coming out. Might take a while to get every drop. Then add some oil, run the mower for a tiny bit, drain the fuel, run the mower till it's out of fuel, take that oil and dump it, change to a brand new blade or a freshly sharpened one, then put brand new oil in, change the air filter, and voila! it's ready to go first pull in the spring.
Nice work! I especially like Royal Purple because it’s good quality and way easier to see on the dipstick!
They made it purple so everyone would think it’s great. That and Mobil1 don’t even meet minimum industry standards. Got a lot of advertising though to make people think it’s great.
I use a slightly loose zip tie instead of a twist tie. It's reusable and always stays on the handle.
The dipstick that live next door to me is easy to read
Pretty slick idea.
No air filter or spark plug check?
@@joshcantrell8397 replaced both off camera!
@@gcfun smart man!
Easier way. Turn it over, milk dud!
Seriously? I used the drain plug. Less work. And, you don't tie the safety handle, for a million reasons!
There's many push mowers that don't have drain plugs
@@johnhaas2523 many push mowers, including this model. Idk why I’ve gotten so many comments suggesting this as if I hadn’t thought about how much easier that would be 🤦🏼♂️
Nah !! Just invert it into a pan ..
Looks like NC. Is that NC?
@@Jim_Bud NC as in North Carolina?
They have sticker on them now "Never change the oil, just add" 😂😂 to be fair it's been like 8 years and it still good.. The oil is definitely black now tho ahaha
Thats the way to do it every time its the best way actually even if you forget to unplug the plug and pull the cord a few times that way gets all the old out and any little particles to or sludge it'll suck out
But wait you didn't get it all out gotta unplug spark plug then pull cord while its sucking then pour a little new oil in let it run shut off then suck that out how you done the first time then fill it up to the marks
@@Mike-su8si ah thanks for the tip!
@@gcfun yeah guess either way is good
Most mowers, at least the older ones, have a drain plug on the bottom. Also, I've never seen mower oil this black!!!
How’s that blue hose connector work?
Help me out here, what blue hose connector are you referencing?
@@gcfunat 00:23. The blue connector that’s on the red and sits above the blade
@@kunu98 oh! That’s to connect a water hose so you can clean the mower.
gonna try to save my fav shirt from the rag pile wish me luck
@@MiraLove you got this, good luck!
Buena idea. Esa es mucha maquina para ese jardin, limpio un terreno mas grande con una 3.5 hp clasica
Theres a drain plug on the bottom of the mower.
Not so on this model, trust me it's the first thing I checked. The manual states to tip it over onto it's side to drain the old oil.
@@gcfun either way you're still over-complicating this.
@@RichardJohnson-wb7sv to each their own! It doesn’t feel very complicated to me, so this is what I do. If you have a way that works better for you, go ahead and do that - I won’t stop you! Thanks for your feedback.
Most older ones, yes. I have run across one newer one that didn’t have one. And multiple other old ones where the drain plug was seized. I just drain them out the fill tube.
Oh brother 🤦♂️
@@TheGrayJedi93 I know, right? Smh 🤦🏼♂️
Or you can do like most of my customers do....if you never check your Oil then it never needs to be changed 🤦♂️
Ignorance is bliss, I suppose! Lol
You are literally supposed to just tip it over and pour it out… just make sure there is no gas in it and you won’t have any issues. Also, if you try this stupid vacuum trick make sure that oil doesn’t go into your vacuum!!!!!
@@F150customsyup.
it's a pain in the ass tipping them. For one.. messy... another is that the way things are built these days... you don't know if it'll run after you set it back upright. lol 😁
@@johnmccree8941 as long as you have the gas tank completely empty it will run just fine. Otherwise you end up dealing with the gas
Pro gamer move would be just tip the dang thang, if you pause at right time can even see figure 25 that kind shows this. This is still a good idea in the right situation though.
@@MistaTofMaine yeah the first few oil changes I did were by tipping, re. the manual. Too messy for me, plus no way to really ensure you drain most of the old stuff imho. This method works for me! 🤷🏼♂️
It's just you.
@@manicmechanic448 ok thanks for taking the time to let me know! :)
What about the air filter, spark plug, and sharpening the blade?
@@thatRBX all of these were done off camera! Replaced the blade though
Those are totally different processes and tools than the what’s shown in the video. 😂
Why didnt you just use the 3/8 drain hole at the bottom of your block? Theres a reason you are supposed to drain from the bottom.
@@sooonaekoo1-5 I didn’t because there isn’t one. 🤷🏼♂️
@@gcfun fair enough.
never mowers dont have a drain plug
@@markrush5013 when Briggs was Bought By MTD, they started cost cutting. Apparently they thought the drain plug on the flathead was useless
I’m pretty good at maintaining all my tools with engines…except my push mower. I haven’t changed the oil since I bought it some 8 years ago. 😂 I know I should but it’s been running like a champ so far. Thanks for the tip though.
Hey, nice! Curious what make/model you have? True testament to build quality if you ask me. I sought out an electric pressure washer purposely so that I wouldn't have to keep up with maintenance on another ICE.
@@gcfun it’s a Craftsman push mower…Briggs & Stratton engine. Similar to the one on your video. Thanks for your reply 🤙🏽
Wow poor thing
@@spencerh2860 me or the mower? 😄
Changed mine for the first time this year. 14 years on a Toro with a Briggs and Stratton. Things are tanks.
Or drill and tap a drain plug hole while wondering why you bought a mower with no drain.
Lol that sounds like a lot more work than this. Truthfully, I didn't purchase my mower primarily based on changing the oil, but rather saving space (this is the Toro SmartStow mower). My dad thinks it's foolishness, but it's been going strong for me for about 8 years now.
Instead of a twistie tie, get yourself a wrap-it storage band, they're velcro and work great 👍
Wrap-It bands are the best! I use them for my extension cords and shop vac hoses.
How to overcomplicate the simplest task, ever.
Lol
9@@JTLancaster
There ars oil drain ports under the mower
Unfortunately, not on this model.
Or on any model that I've ever worked on.😊 And I'm counting riding mowers no old drain plug under the mower sorry@@gcfun( Riders do have an oil drain plug. But it's on the side, not under it.)
And save electricity!!
Thank you!
FYI a external pump from harbor freight is $12 and you won’t have to use your $40 shop vac 👍
Good point- thanks for the tip!
Manual one?
@@gtarules1 electronic battery powered. Price might have changed since my purchase few years back but it works great for this 👍
lol this is so cringe. Don't have to warm it up. Don't have to wait to check. What a loser
Instead of wasting fuel, time and produce noise, you can drain warm oil after mowing...
This is true! I'll do this next time.
Just tilt the mower on its side over an oil pan. That’s literally how to do it.
That's what I do. This is neater...but easier and cheaper would be the fluid hand pump at HF fir $7.49 typically on sale for $3.99. Has every hose you might want.
You're right but I like this method better. To each their own!
Yeah, that HF hand pump is simple, cheap and effective. I use one to do transmission fluid exchanges. For this contraption, I'm certain that I spent less on these refrigerator lines, plus I already had my shop vac/mason jar (I would rather use a Nalgene bottle for the capture reservoir but that would definitely put me over the cost of the HF hand pump). Thanks for watching!
Or use the drain plug on the bottom of the mower.
@@RichardJohnson-wb7svtheirs a drain plug?! On push mowers?? I’m just now hearing this-?
Exactly what I was looking for thanks!
I’m glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
