    Completely agree on the being in person for projects. If you are not there for the project it will take much longer and cost 20-30% more because of the laid back lifestyle in Mexico. I have stories of instances where people just drink at the site all day, and then get mad if you fire them or lay them off. They also will leave the site early because they know they have secured work for the foreseeable future, so projects will be very delayed. I am planning on building a master bedroom with en suite in Queretaro, and many of these recommendations apply in the mainland.

    Hola, your home is beautiful. I recently purchased a tiny home here on Vancouver Island for the same price as your full sized home🤪prices here are bananas tho. My question for you is whether you’ve seen any tiny home communities around TS and if there’s a tiny home movement at all in Mexico … It’s growing exponentially here in BC but lots of regulations still with permits and finding legal places to set yourself up. That’s one of the many things I super appreciate about Mexico is way less bureaucracy and red tape than here. So grateful I found your channel…your life is very inspirational ✨Gracias 🙏🏼

    Love the yellow couch and love the dogs! :) My house looks about the same size as yours and I built mine in the State of Hidalgo for about half the cost of yours (for those that say Mexico is too expensive these days). You have to know where to go. I imagine having to take hurricanes in mind also made yours more expensive, in addition to the location.

    • @BlueSkySanctuaryBaja
      @BlueSkySanctuaryBaja День тому

      Thanks Jenny, and congrats on your build too! I confess I like the couches so much I brought them from my old property & stored them in a tent for over a year so I could have them in my new house lol. I found them at a segunda years ago! And the dogs, well, you know how that goes ;) And yes the location makes it expensive, plus I simply over spent this time around, because I had the money. I would & could do better if I choose to do it again. Thanks for tuning in!

    This is my main fear about wanting to move abroad, at least part-time. I'm 42 now and want to retire by my mid-late 50's. Thankfully no, I don't feel worried. I'm going to generalize, but in my experience people here are WAY LESS concerned about Trump & politics than they are in the US & Canada. The Moth thing? Reminds me one year my folks and me driving down the coastal highway on the mainland, it was for sure somewhere in Sinaloa State, at dusk swarms of bugs appeared out of nowhere and were there flying, crashing into my dad's car's windshield and a musty smell, the locals brushed it off, but for strangers that was weird. Thank you for sharing interesting videos, like the one where you tell us how to build local, always "al día", this way the workers do a better job than "de stajo" where you state a period of time and money and tell them you must comply with the schedule, not, they will do a shoddy job.

    How did you even get the land? Land is usually expensive and a lot of times you have no water access. That's especially important for waste water.

    • @BlueSkySanctuaryBaja
      @BlueSkySanctuaryBaja 6 днів тому

      I've done a few videos about purchasing property here, it's not that complicated really. My first property was less than $20 000US. My second property was $32 000US. Expensive is so relative, but for me, those prices are very reasonable for what you're getting. 'No water access' is all there is here. NO ONE's sewage is going back to a waste water treatment facility here, everyone's waste water is going into their septic system, and in some cases, like what I'm doing, we're using our grey water to water the property.

    • @luperamos7307

      @BlueSkySanctuaryBaja I'll look into your videos more. But in a nutshell, how much would you expect for building cost for a 1,000 sqft home? And where do you find that land? Is it posted online? Evth I always found was very expensive. IDK how big your land is you purchased for those prices

Now that I have my traditional cinderblock home done I'm definitely dreaming up what the next one will be, and leaning hard towards glass bottle construction. I'm practicing by making walls around the property for privacy ect & then we'll go from there. Thanks for the kind words!

    We’ve built our house Mexican style, bit by bit over the last 11 years in central Mexico (in a small town 1 hr from Mexico City). My husband is Mexican, so has always hired local albañiles (cement and stone masons). He sources materials himself, which is another cost saver. We have lots of brick-outlined arched windows and doors, but no need for an architect as our albañiles know how to do that (and did a very good job), given that this traditional style of construction is common here. Of course, it is a more detailed, time-consuming artisanal process, but fortunately wasn’t a huge increase in the budget. It really does add a nice touch. We also have Talavera-style Mexican tiles incorporated into different areas of the house. Again, we sourced them ourselves from local businesses, and our workers were familiar with installing them, as this kind of construction is still very common in our neck of the Mexican woods (we literally live adjacent to a large national forest). We do have the iron bars on our first floor windows, but it doesn’t feel at all prison like, because they are decorative handmade traditional designs, and add to the Mexican aesthetic of the house. We also found a local window and door family-run business. Their custom-made windows and glass shower enclosures were more economical than off-the-shelf options at big box stores. High quality, too. Obviously we have the advantage of my husband actually being “local” and knowing a thing or two about construction. I can 100% relate to the colour thing, and things not turning out as envisioned. I still have my moments at looking at something that didn’t turn out as I had planned and just having to grin and bear it. But the rest of it more than compensates. The exchange rate fluctuation pain is real. I can absolutely relate.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! So much to learn from what you've accomplished, and I appreciatae & resonate with your approach to building. My foreman sourced most materials for me, since he's local, he had all the contacts & would get better prices than I would have for sure. There's always more to do, but I've definitely learned how to be okay with that. Wishing you all the best over there!

    I'd add... you didnt do it but 11. walls with exposed conduit with your wiring, switches, and plugs instead of inside the walls - easier to work with on blocks walls, looks good, and allows for easy expansion. 12. When possible, plan your sink and shower drainage to diverte all the grey water in your yard.

      Hello! Did you email me? I recieved three emails today, not sure if any of them were you. My email address is in the description of the video, that's the best way to get ahold of me, thanks.

    Your banana tree is so wonderful. I want you to share with us all the leggings/skirt thing you wear as that would be just the thing for our super hot summers in DFW and seems "airy" lol. No pasa nada... Oh gosh I've never heard that and my husband is Mexican! Did you provide lonche for your workers? I sure wish UA-cam had a DM feature as my Bestie there is having a party on the 19th that I could share the invite with you. It's Disco themed... I love it so much. I so enjoy your videos.

      Haha yeah the thai pants are perfect for hot weather for sure, and so comfy too. I order them direct from Thailand, they ship right to me in Mexico no problem! I confess I didn't provide lunch no, they brought their own, but I did buy them snacks almost every day. Pop & chips & sometimes cervezas lol. If it's any consolation I wouldn't go to the party anyway, I'm a total hermit, thanks though hun!

    I look forward to being a local neighbor very soon. ❤ Thank you for confirming for me. Many people constantly want to instill their own fears onto me about even thinking of moving to Mexico. I tell them the same thing you said to someone else in the comments. It's not for everyone. It's definitely calling me.

      Right on, happy to help! I experienced that a great deal too before moving here, too many people projecting their fears on me. (mostly my yoga students back then) Truly, part of what I love about Mexico is that it ISN'T for everyone. The people that are here are some of the toughest, kindest, most independant thinking freedom seekers around, and that's the company I want to keep. Glad it's calling you. ;)
