Haha hearing you describe The Serpent and the Wings of Night makes me realize that I need to get better at describing books because you're killing it! Your list reminds me that there are so many books that I need to prioritize and get to! You really had me intrigued about The Measure.

Hi there! This is actually not Jackie's first adult novel -- she began writing for adults (mysteries or detective novels if I remember correctly) but then switched to kidlit.

Somehow I'd never heard of The Ferryman and I am so intrigued by that premise!

I have read Starling house and Serpent and the wings of night and agree with your thoughts on both. The Nyaxia novels are some of my favourites that I read last year. In Starling house I was mostly bugged by the pacing and also the mind of the FMC as you also described. I found it hard to beoieve she was supposed to be 26 (I think) because she acted like a teeanager. I undestand that when you have to grow up fast you can get kind of stuck, I have seen it before in books, where a person that has lost their parents early and also had to be the caretaker of younger siblings kind of fight that within themselves and mentally are very immature even though they "manage" adulting. I just don't care for it and had a hard time rooting for her.

This was a fun video concept. I really enjoyed it.

I really need to give The Reformatory a read. I got it out of the library for a video ages ago but I think the video got scrapped and I keep forgetting about. I also need to get my hands on Bright Young Women because you have me so intrigued!

Happy birthday! And also I agree about not knowing what to expect from romantasy label. I love fantasy with a romantic subplot but I haven't enjoyed most of the romantasy coming out recently. So weird.

It seems like as soon as you started rolling, the tension and not knowing vanished and you had an easier time picking books. Or maybe you doubted every choice for 30 minutes and the finished video is just good editing. 😂

Yay! I’m so glad that you loved Rebecca so much and ended up giving it five stars. I think the characterisation and writing is exquisite 😮‍💨 I love Mrs Danvers as much as she petrifies me. And I feel like it is a very good classic thriller too.

I've yet to find an adaptation of Rebecca that isn't pants. However, when I was very little, like Ruby's age, there was an adaption of Frenchmans Creek (same author), I think it was by the BBC. Nan had recorded it and I was round at Nan and Grandads the day Nan was watching it. I LOVED it. Nan had recorded it and later gave me the tape. It is now the only VHS tape I own ❤ The books great too. Might see if I can get myself a special edition of that one at Jamaica Inn in May though since I have such a special memory to go with it xx
