That video is SO DESTRUCTIVE TO VAUSH FOR SO MANY REASONS. 1) ITS ROCK SOLID as far as evidence, receipts, and factual statements about what Vaush said goes 2) If you essentially agree with the morality he was spouting in that video, it does prove Vaush is evil in a very real way. 3) The guy didnt come across as partisan or holding a personal grudge, just a non personal fact based dismantling 4) Used Vaush's own arguments against him, OUTING HIM AS THE WORST KIND OF HYPOCRIT. To steelman DemonMama though I disagree with a lot of her larger points, I think Destiny kept missing the answer to two questions he kept asking which, in DemonMama's framework, answer each other: 1) What is the underlying fact of the matter of gender in DemonMama's understanding of gender, does her framework actually devalue trans identity and other meaningful categories? and 2) How do we get around DemonMama's perpetual invocation of agency which seems to function as a shield from criticism? I don't know whether she could be nailed down on there being a measurable fact of the matter for trans or gay or racial identity other than self-id--I'm willing to grant her the charitability to assume yes because I actually don't think it conflicts with the framework she's trying to get at. But I do think the point she's getting at is that to a gender abolitionist, perhaps a neurological fact of the matter can be found pointing at some specifics of gender expression, but actual gender categories are abolishable on the premise that the current social construction in the English-speaking world of "men", "women", and maybe some fuzzy third thing and maybe more, can be REPLACED BY AGENCY. Not by a selection of better, more accurate or unifying categories. But by the concept of self-expression itself, a concept in which the uniqueness of individuals is key and prized. I don't think this model is inherently wrong, I just think it's a model that has to be bought into by a vast number of people in order to function, which is where its rightness or wrongness will be tested. Like any grand arcane theory of social construction, it can't really be disproven to be functional at large scale, it can only be proven by becoming ubiquitous, like the successes of social constructs of money and language, and like the probably-never-provable social constructs of things like Posadism or a religion worshipping the concept of a teacup orbiting the Sun between Jupiter and Saturn. Would a society built on a model of gender abolitionism including the actual absence of distinct popular binaristic gender categories at the center of its gender concept see massive mental health problems in otherwise cisgender people, or would they be chill about their self-expression being so hyperspecific as to be nonrelational? Would currently-binaristic trans people be happy with it? Would nonbinary people? Would current neopronoun users invent unified categories again just to be contrary? It's not knowable until it's tried on at least a small scale culturally, which admittedly it has not been tried. If gender abolitionism is to be attempted on a small scale I prefer Vaush's model of it where it seems like...the same as a model of men, women, other, just people be less assumptive about what gender means and treat it as an almost gamified social construct rather than inherently biological. I think that's more likely to be at least a worthy experiment.

Vaush’s “ideology” is about as realistic as mine when I was 15 and read some summary of Machiavelli and decided it’d be pretty cool if I told people that I was “Machiavellian.” Then, unlike Vaush, I never actually said that ever and just went on with my life like a (relatively) normal person.

I worked at a college for over 12 years. I was hourly, but I doubt I ever worked under 60 hours any week. I watched most of my peers clock exactly 40 hours while I completed work several pay-grades higher. Still, I only recorded 40 hours for my paysheet. Because the thing that is getting missed is: I loved my job. Sure, more money or respect would have been wonderful. Still, if I could help people get a meaningful degree (Nursing, Welding, X-Ray Tech, etc) that doubled their pay (changing the lives of generation) without accruing weighty college debt, I was all in. We did not produce expensive, but useless, degrees. We made the people and the country better. If it meant working through lunch and staying a bit late, I was all in as long as I got to watch graduation from the eaves. If a union had denied me that possibility because someone somewhere might have worked a few more hours, I would have ended up in jail. Let it be voluntary.

My question is how can someone believe these employees have a union and that union and the employee are allowing the company to violate the laws on overtime without reporting it to the DOL? And as soon as I typed it, your video covers it. The one thing about your video is you and your audience talks about "conservatives". I find that weird because the conservatives these days seems to align more with moderates and independents while the progressive left has redefined liberal to mean more aligned with authoritarian ans socialism. Talking about the undergrad thing: For my university (Indiana University), all Poli-Sci majors in their senior year have to take a seminar (topics change by semester and professor preference) where you are in a class of 10 or less sitting down with a professor that has published works. You read published research on the topic and talk about it in a Socratic seminar to prepare you to write a paper of your own. At the end of the semester you’re expected to have a thesis prepared where you pose a question, make a hypothesis, establish variables, set up a survey and discuss methodology of the survey, discuss controls, and summarize what has already been researched about it. As my seminar professor put it, “you are writing a paper for publication up to the point where you conduct the survey.” Some people go on to finish their senior papers and put them in for publication, others use it as a start for a grad school thesis.

it’s worrying seeing multiple popular figures pretend to be the arbiters of moral authority, when they dehumanize anyone who doesn’t fully agree with them.
