    Good video but one thing we aren’t going to do is basically copy other people and remake other peoples videos _ I’d rather not get any views rather than just steal someone’s ideas . I come from engineering and you don’t copy or you will infringe someone else’s IP but this UA-cam thing is just full of plagiarism and unoriginality-you even have software to copy others videos

    This was an excellent conversation about script, writing structures, and intentions. The biggest take away from me was not giving the payoff before a breakdown or explanation. Also making sure there is a set up before any pay off throughout the script body. I am still at my early stage of UA-cam video content creation. Was searching for quality content about script writing and came across this video. Glad I watched the entire session. It was very insightful.

    This was such a fun episode! Gah, so curious who George is working with now! It sounds like the channel is definitely a hidden gem. It was cool seeing the advice be consistent between Gwilym and Jamie, and it sounds like just experiment and try making each video better until you find your core formats, but even then, have 1 in 4 videos be more experimental to see if there's a new format to be had. Great advice and definitely going to take on what was discussed here! Loved the episode, keep it up!

      hey Andrew! Sure, let's take two vids on Ali Abdaal's channel: "We Got Married and Moved to Hong Kong (Life Update)" [thumbnail = Ali at his wedding]. This is community focused. It would only be of interest to people who already know Ali (and a few other curious people who want to watch a vlog). But it did well because it's genuinely big news. "5 Steps to Start Making $10k/Month Writing Online" = growth-oriented, as it's offering value to a wide range of people (everyone who can write decently well and is interested in making money online), regardless of whether or not they know Ali. Over time, that should in theory bring new viewers to the channel who'll get to know Ali and eventually be part of the 'community'. Hope that helps!

    Just wanted to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to all 3 of you guys as well as the quality material you guys keep sharing with the community. After studying all your content for the past few months from your own channels and appearing in other videos, It's was quickly made clear how vital scripting videos is to any creator. It's refreshing to know every time I get stuck on a scripting hurdle I can refer back to the countless videos I have saved of you guys to bypass those challenges. I was planning on releasing a long form video last month but after listening to just one of your videos It was made clear to me (frustratingly at the time) that I should instead take the month to study scripting to really optimize the quality of that video and any future ones. 1 month later, not only have I developed a new hobby with scripting but I can now say that video is now lightyears ahead of what it should have been in terms of quality if I had never stumbled across you guys. So yeah, just wanted to let you guys know how valuable and helpful your content is, and how criminally undervalued the information you guys provide is. Cant wait to keep learning more and keep improving my writing with help from you guys. You guys are killing it!

Currently i done sample titles first Then i go for thumbnail concepts from competitors and adjacent niches Then i refined them into my mockups After which i try to matcg my thumbnail mockup with title to find which complements better together

      I've had this issue sometimes as it is harder to see the forest from the trees when you're closer to the subject of the video + more emotionally attached. A simple trick I've found that has helped me, even though it sounds kinda silly is to just imagine that I'm helping a client and talking out loud how the thumbnail could be better. This usually brings up some new ideas that I wouldn't have thought of.

    • @joshbrindley5652
      @joshbrindley5652 2 місяці тому

      @@JamieWhiffen I'll give it a try. I notice that when I work on a thumbnail/video then sort of park it for a while, when I re-visit it, I tend to have much better ideas. But it isn't that practical to have a 6 week lead on a video. I tried your sketching yday, it works really well! Allows me to super quickly play around with composition without a lot of effort.

    I am a full-time thumbnail designer and I agree with the rank: it's very enjoyable! Like Jamie said, it really depends on the clients you're working with. When I first started out I had my fair share of nightmare clients: unrealistic expectations, tight deadlines, low pay etc. This definitely put more pressure on me, making the job less enjoyable. Now that I have been doing this for over a year, I am working with creators who have more experience on UA-cam, and I can say it's such a blast working with them.

    I saw a video where people tested the tester by using the same thumbnail. They said that the AB testing tool is not accurate and not worth using until it has been fixed. I thought at least if UA-cam is providing a new feature, they would at least give more impressions so that it could be tested properly for more people. I'm glad I watched this video to know that is not the case.

    • @JamieWhiffen
      @JamieWhiffen 3 місяці тому

      I do think that the A/B testing tool is pretty limited until they at least include titles. A/B testing just the thumbnail alone is no where near as powerful as being able to test both the title and thumbnail. I did speak to one of the head UA-cam employees whilst at VidSummit and he was really against adding titles to A/B testing which really surprised me.

    Great interview, great guest. The way he speaks about repeatable series is a lot more functional and less robotic than other similar advice I’ve heard about the same thing. I hate when Ali says, “it’s just a title and a list” that’s such BS. But suggesting a repeatable action so that your audience understands what they’re getting when clicking, and is attractive to new viewers, is awesome and I should take that advice myself. I have a few hit videos that easily could be turned into series, but I don’t because I don’t want to become “that guy.” I’ve been advising UA-camrs for nearly a decade now, and had a lot of success transitioning creators from TikTok to UA-cam. I’d love to be on your show at some point, cause you seem like a great conversationalist. Just hope pigeons don’t hit your windows
