    A lower 1st gear could be beneficial in the rougher spots. Less chance of stalling the engine. ?? Like the Honda CT 90,s they had the lower range gear box.

      Good call. The bike has 1 tooth smaller on the front and it makes a big difference in the tech stuff.

    Looks like a battle! My t7 wouldn't be an "enjoyable" bike for that. I'd want a dirtbike style ripper i'd feel more in control with. I don't like to fight the entire trail. I appreciate the video to check out thistrail.

      A friend of mine just did it on his T7 and he was solo. If you go counter clockwise it’s pretty manageable if you ride dirt bikes. Hope you enjoy the ride however you ride it 🤘

    Just rode whipsaw a week ago . The 4x4 traffic has gotten very busy. It’s taken on a lot of damage

    How tall are you. Does the KTM feel too tall.

      I’m 6’2” so it fits me pretty well. It’s definitely a tall ride

    The various Clake hydraulic left hand rear brakes make these descents so much easier on big Adv bikes precisely because you can easily put both feet down. They’re not cheap, but they transform the bike

    Those views are worth the effort. Good thinking providing spotting for your new rider, this type of simple effort helps to grow the sport. Have been in the same situation before and I try to minimize the stress for those with still developing skillsets, its actually quite rewarding seeing them complete obstacles they would not have otherwise attempted.

      I got them from a company named FortNine in canada. Also RMATV will have them also. Pretty easy to find 🤘

    I live in the Okanagan. Lots of great riding out here. Once I discovered that area it became my favorite place to ride. I've spent hundreds of hours out there. It's such a diverse terrain there is something for everyone. And some of the best hillclimbs around. And some that are almost impossible to conquer. Would try until I couldn't hang on anymore. Then go back later lol. Great video showing the flowy stuff!!

      Hey thanks for the comment. I recently went back and rode the Loose Screw event and got to see a lot more of the area and I agree there is a lot of good stuff out there. Next time we will head south and ride more towards Logan Lake area. Found some good stuff there

      Guess you were riding a husky? I understand what you mean, knock on wood I’ve had no issues with the 3 Austrian bikes I own. But Tony and many others I know have had the same issues Tony and you have experienced. I didn’t understand your question at first but I do now.

    Great video. You probably already know this, but I'll just mention it. If you get to a section like the one at 05:39, where you said you are basically unable to use your back brake, you can switch your bike off, put it in gear, and then use the clutch as a back brake for when you can't use your real back brake. I use this all the time.

      @@j-moto1215 Yes yes. Obviously many adventure bike riders never do THAT technical stuff. But me as an enduro rider utilize that a lot when I need both of my feet...

      @@johansmitphotography yes, good tip (I ride enduro as well) but the heavy bikes picking up momentum will easily restart the engine in gear. Even my 500EXC does it.

    Your mate needs to get up on the pegs more on that 690 , he should be able to tackle pretty much any climb on that thing, no body armour?

      Good tip, he’s a good rider but guess he prefers to sit. I didn’t even attempt it on the 990 because it was so loose. Sand and baby heads haha not a good combo

    How to you like the 990? Most of my riding has been on 450cc dirt bikes but looking to get into a bigger bike that I can do some gravel adventure riding on.

      Honestly it’s a blast to ride, very capable machine. Takes me up singletrack climbs that I shouldn’t be able to do but that big Vtwin takes you up everything. When things get technical and momentum slows it shows it’s size. One of my fav bikes of all time

      @@j-moto1215 I’m in Ontario so hopefully one pops up for a good price. I’ve considered the tenere 700, bmw gs800 and maybe even an Africa twin as an alternative.

      @@rippinmachines I’ve heard the T700 is lighter and more playful. Both bikes are pretty amazing. The AT is pretty massive haha. Tried that one, 990 or T700 I think will make an amazing off-road machine for ya. Shoot me a message if you have any question at all.

      I’m pretty sure the S model would be fine. The R has a bit more travel but both are very capable. It’s actually insane what they can tackle. You won’t be disappointed with the S

      You’re right!! I went 1 down in the front from stock and it’s worked well. Could try +2 on the back and see if it makes things easier

      No I was thinking about it the entire ride but for whatever reason it didn’t. It’s got the engine ice coolant in the RAD maybe that makes a difference

      I wouldn’t say it’s the perfect beginner bike, still make a lot of power but it’s a nice way to enter the 2 stroke world if you have other power sport experience. It’s a lot tamer than a normal Beta 300 RR. What kind of terrain are you riding?

      Yeah this is a good option because of its lower seat height or looks for a KTM 200 XCW. A little less power and easier to manage. Good luck

    I'm 5'6" too. Installed a lowering link, lowered the rear sag, 1.5" bar risers, and brought the fork tubes up 1.5". No more nervies about high-siding. If she still has the Xtrainer, these mods work wonders!
