BMW X5 (E70) automatic transmission trick for pan rear bolts

GA6HP19Z transmission pan rear bolts trick to torque to spec.Bonus: count how many "essentially" I said.
Is this the ATC45L transfer case?
Fyi this is a vanos solenoid(timing)
Thanks Mark...second language. Replacing both solenoids got rid of my idle hesitation. While not cheap, one of the easiest repairs.
@@anaestereo810 glad to hear that, I replaced mine awhile back as preventative maintenance. Long oil change intervals gunk them up.
Friend the transfer is going oil filled oh no ? And if it's not filled with oil, when do I know I have to change the differential? I have BMW X6 4D, year 2013 box E71 and I have 156,000 KLM. Thank you
You can remove the actuator without having the fluid inside the transfer case leak, as the gears are on the dry side. That said, is good practice to replace the transfer case fluid every 60k miles or 100k km's. Use the appropriate fluid (TF0870) as otherwise you'll damage the clutch plates on the transfer case. For the rear and front differential you can use gear oil (75w90 gl5 I believe) but again, don't use that differential oil for the transfer case. On the E70 front differential has fill and drain plug, in the rear only fill plug, so you'll have to suck it out from the fill plug and then fill. Cheers mate.
@@anaestereo810 Ok, thank you very much friend. Greetings from Spain
Brother you don’t have to take the cross member down to get the actuator off, there’s enough room to undo the bolts , I took mine of in 10-15 mins over a pit. Maybe you doing in floor so might be easier I guess ??
Laying on my back on a concrete floor in winter...but not complaining, at least I have a garage! Jealous of your pit....😎
I wanted to see how you like the valve cover after it has been 6 months from your upload? Is it leaking any? Thanks. Matt.
Hey Matt! Thanks for watching. I am really happy with it, no leaks at all nor haven't had any issues (No oil light starvation under hard loads etc). I sent a recent oil change to analyze to see if there was any metallic residue from the aluminum cover that was suspended in the oil and the balckstone report came clean. A placebo effect ( ie: added benefit i want to believe) is that the aluminum cover quiets the valvetrain chatter on cold starts. Only thing is to carry over the metallic bracket from the old cover to the mitzune one, as hole tolerances are waaaay off. Thnaks.fornthe reminder, gotta make that 1 year video. Btw, the bmw technician that.came home.to.do the bmw pcv heater recall was impressed with it.
@@anaestereo810 sweet! Thanks for the update. I will now get one.
Bro I bought mine on eBay I will receive it soon just ask you if until now if it sill working perfect and what about that Pcv still good and people said valvtronic doesn’t sit very week just to know Thank you
Hi there....so far no issues (+4 months, 3k miles later). The oil leak on the cover hasn't returned and I do not have any vacuum leaks. Engine idles perfectly without any hesitations, so the pcv is doing g its job. That said, i had to carry over the metal bracket that supports the valvetronic motor from the old engine cover, as the holes didn't line up on the one provided.
Where did your leak come from'? Did you stop it?
True!!! I didn't mentioned that! It was a failed seal at the wire harness that access the transmission to actuate the mechatronic unit (Mechatronics sealing sleeve part number zf 24347588725) thru the aluminum transmission housing and you need to remove the trans cover to unclip the seal and rotate it out . It is found right on top the area I am showing ( rearward vehicle). Word of caution, if you open the trans, make yourself a favor and drop the mexhatronic Unit and replace the actuators bridge seal as well...after this repair 6 months later it failed, put the car in limp mode, and had to drop the pan again, then the mechatronic unit then replace the actuator seals....I have the video ready to upload, but never did. The.leak never came back, I am 3yrs and about 40k miles later
@@anaestereo810 Just replacing this sleeve, will the fluid run out?
@@bmw12347 if you see a leak at the back of the transncover, in my experience chances are the culprit is the wireharness sleeve.. I replaced it and the fluid doesn't runnout anymore after 3 years and almost 40k miles
@@anaestereo810 let me rephrase. While you were replacing the wire harness sealing sleeve, did fluid flow out? Do I need to have a container ready to catch it?
@@bmw12347 my bad, nowni understand. To remove the sleeve you have first to drain the trans fluid from the pan, then remove the pan (which happens to be the filter as well) only then you can access the tabs securing the sleeve to the aluminum body....
Great review but remember hold your phone sideways for a full screen recording.
I am rookie....lol
A mechanic told me that it doesn't fit because n52 engine is not compatible as it has no ventilation. Is this true?
I'd always listen to a certified ASE mechanic before a random guy in youtube. That said, my x5 has a n52 engine and this valve cover fits, if by ventilation he means a pcv, it does have a built in positive cranckcase ventilation in the valve cover.....round thing on the end of the cover facing the firewall. Hope helps.
Would be happy to outsource that aluminum valve cover gasket kit, any links as reference?
www.amazon.com/MITZONE-Upgrade-Performance-Aluminum-Compatible/dp/B09CYNLN86 Amazon says doesn't fit x5 e70 3.0 si, but product description says it does. I installed it on a 07' x5 (e70) no problem.
Will it last like forever? Theoretically yes, BUT really appreciate your honest review from Owner's point of view
@@agungpratomo3857 as promised I'll do a one year review, I installed this September '22. These valve covers have the pcv integrated, IMHO that would be the limiting factor on reusing this aluminum one. Additionally the cover gasket will eventually fail as well and leak again, but at leat the cover itself will not warp and installing a replacement gasket is common maintenance ...remember that early gen n52 engines had an aluminum cover from the factory....I know some owners had cut and glued a new pcv on the plastic valve cover, that may be an option on this one as well, personally I'd just buy a new one. Be on the.lookout for the one year review vid, thanks for watching.
Listening to this guy makes me vomit
Awesome help man thank you!!
Thank you for taking the time to share this video. Very helpful.
Hi have you ever taken out the transmission to change parts.
On my car with 150k miles what was absolutely required was replacing the rear mechatronics sleeve with the two O-rings...these leak over time and are the killers of these transmissions (Mechatronics sealing sleeve part number zf 24347588725)
