    Disney: (FL) let’s theme the whole back of a building so it doesn’t interrupt the sight lines from a whole other park. (CA) lets make sure all the major landmarks (like the castle, Matterhorn, big Thunder, the Batuu rocks, Space Mountain, the Carthay Circle tower, Guardian’s, Pixar wheel, Cars Land rocks, and grizzly peak are all well hidden from one another (or at least blended) to make sure people stay immersed Universal (California): yeah, you can see the Hogwarts castle clearly from the Simpson’s area, but who cares

      I really enjoy criticism, good and bad, and wholeheartedly agree and know all about my voice issue. I had developed a lung problem that effected my breathing and it took a number of months to recover. Then I had to retrain my voice back to normal. I'm ahead in episodes, so you'll probably notice my voice return to normal gradually over the next two to three episodes (I'm 4 episodes ahead at the moment). I really appreciate the honesty and encouragement. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    Auction scene is a disaster and adding wokeness is bad storytelling so don’t cave in to it. Don’t be a coward.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers День тому

      I thought I made an understandable case for Red. I mean, if even Walt Disney thought the Auction scene was possibly a step too far and there were designs for a female Red pirate that was never used, then I don't think approving the change is cowardly. Also, Marc Davis' design for the portrait of Red at Disneyland's Pirates has never been removed and is still widely favored by fans. The character concept was interesting 60 years before wokeness became a thing. I think I even admitted in this episode that early on I didn't like the change, but after learning some neat facts, I changed my opinion. The rides are supposed to change. Not totally altering subjects here, but I was on Pirates at the Magic Kingdom last weekend and they added new smells during two scenes. I like those changes too.

    In 2023 we took my son for his 5th birthday to WDW. My mom came with us. Her only caveat to the whole trip was “he has to ride dumbo with me first” how could I say no? To me it’s the kind of ride that you don’t think about when you leave or even a month after the trip but when you see it or get on it, it’s a flood of nostalgia and joy.

    4:11 - At EXPO67, this geodesic dome / sphere served as the USA pavilion. I think, seen to the right here is the USSR pavilion across a bit of the river on another island. After 1967, the 'glass sphere' was filled with gardens, becoming the Biosphere.

    Great video and thanks for making it. This pavilion is most definitely one of the most detailed and is a wonderful place to spend time in. In my opinion, The Three Caballeros addition to the attraction really just killed a previously excellent experience. The previous ride was so peaceful and highlighted so many wonderful areas throughout Mexico. Unfortunately we now have Donald Duck SHOUTING constantly throughout the entire ride. It's so distracting to what is otherwise a beautiful setting. This was a cheap and quite terrible IP overlay that ruined an otherwise wonder experience. It's not like anything is being added here. It's just literally a cheap and fast IP overlay for no reason other than to make babies and young kids laugh. I mean, there are so many other places that can happen, for the life of me I cannot see any reason why they put this cheap overlay on this previously wonderful attraction.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers 17 днів тому

      Thanks so much for watching and appreciation for this episode. And I can't agree with you more. The Mexico Pavilion is a great place to spend time and is very special to me. With that said, I have to say that I also agree with your sentiment about the Gran Fiesta attraction. The reason I didn't cover too much of it in this episode, besides the time factor, was because I intend to make an episode going over the attraction's history and what exactly happened to it over the decades. In addition to what you've already added, I feel the connection to the ancient peoples of Mexico, as well as the architecture, sculptures and art, were made into a lavish backdrop rather than properly highlighted. Humbly speaking, as I try to do in my videos, I very much prefer a balance of history, education and fun stuff. Awesome comment by the way! I can't thank you enough.

    My favorite ending was the 1994-2007 version with Jeremy Irons. The music was to me, the absolute best yet. The future city that is shown with all of the fiber optics along with the music was always so moving and memorable to me. It was positively the best. I do not personally like the current cartoon ending. It just feels cheap and quick. I have to wonder if that beautiful city of the future is still there just hidden behind walls. The original space station ports were there for years just not lit so it was difficult to see (on purpose). Anyway, that was my favorite version with the most incredible music, the calming voice of Jeremy Irons and that incredible ending.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers 19 днів тому

      I 100 percent agree with you that the Irons ending had the best ending out of any version! And I agree that the music was amazing, however, I found every version's music to be fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing, it's really enjoy hearing different takes and perspectives. It's like getting to experience attractions through another lens. And hey, thanks so much for watching too. I wish I could have found better photos of the space station, finding photos in such dark places in the 80s and 90s is rough.

And you did such a phenomenal job. I grew up watching the Twilight Zone as well. My father had shelves of VHS recordings that he taped; it must have been nearly every episode (he loved the Twilight Zone as well) and I can't even try to recall how many times I watched through all of them. And not once until I researched this episode did I ever realize that it wasn't Rod Serling's voice the entire way through on the Tower of Terror (which I've been on dozens of times). Really, you are so great! All I can say is thank you about a thousand more times!!!

    Another great history lesson! Great work! I think Disney World should have a Walt statue at each park. Gad they put one in Epcot recently. None of the parks would be with out Walt’s original vision and to me the statue represents that. I always stop to take a picture of the partner statue at each visit.

      That's an excellent notion! Maybe the introduction of the Walt statue at Epcot is the beginning of something there for the other parks. I think his approach is my favorite of them all, cause what makes animation so unique is showing the feelings and emotions of the characters to feel the moment they're in. When Mowgli tries to wake up Baloo after the fight with Sher Kahn it really resonates w/ me as an adult still it was heartwarming that entire segment. Well done video, this deserves more likes and attention what a remarkable man, I'm learning animation and have been glued to the illusion of life for days now.

      It's such an amazing book, right? It's so awesome to hear about someone else appreciating. Ollie Johnston was such an inspiration to so many animators. I feel so terrible about it, but I don't recall if I actually saw him in person or it was a video I saw when I was very young, but I recalled seeing an old animator when I was a kid and I saw his hand shaking and I thought that he must draw left handed. And I was so surprised when he sat down to draw with his right hand! And the drawing was absolutely flawless. My mind was completely blown. Again, I was much younger and I can't recall if this happened in reality or on a screen, but I guess it doesn't really matter, the lasting impression he had on me has stayed with me decades later. Ollie was a great man and incredible artist.

    You are so detailed… I love it! Im a Disney Fine Artist and I love leaning!!!! I remember POLY had Moana Minnie’s Fun Hut (arcade) back in the mid 80’s. Have you ever come across this in your research? I wonder if the building still exists and if so, where is it? Id love to go back and reminisce

      You're a Fine Artist for Disney?!!! That's so amazing! Do you mind telling what exactly you do for them? I'm so curious! It's so interesting!!! I saw pictures of the fun hut arcade during research, but couldn't scrounge up enough details to add anything worthwhile to the episode. I recall being at the resort during the years it was there but it's like my memory just erased it. I believe it's entrance was between where Captain Cook's and Trader Sam's Grog Grotto currently resides. Oh and Thank you so much for watching!!!

    For your future reference: You keep mis-pronouncing "Chouinard". It is pronounced Chuunard.I know because I went to Chouinard and nobody I know that went to the art school ever pronounced like you have in this video and others. Just trying to help.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers Місяць тому

      It's so awesome that you got to go to Chouinard! I'm not going to contest how you pronounce it, the place merged into California Institute of the Arts in 1970, so there aren't many that could correct how it's said. All I can say is that I listened to each and every one of Milt Kahl's and Marc Davis's interviews that I could find and I listened over and over to how they pronounced Chouinard, then I would pause and practice over and over saying how they said it. Back and forth repeating like that until I felt comfortable. I honestly fought hard to say it like them too. My natural tendency is to say it "show-rin-ard" (with an extra "r" in there). In the next episode where the school comes up, which is relatively soon, I'll double check myself though. Thanks for looking out and helping. And hey, thanks so much for watching too!

    This was an amazing video! I loved the information about the modular construction. That's fascinating info I'd never heard of. Every time I go to Magic Kingdom I book dinner reservations at Kona Cafe, which I like the food at better than Ohana. A couple nights actually staying at the Polynesian (ideally the Bungalows) is my Disney bucket list dream...I need a job to give me a big signing bonus... Anyway, I would love to see you cover every hotel in this much detail!

    Love this! Mexico at Epcot is one of our favorite. We also love Canada for the Le Cellier Steakhouse. We love the architecture of both of these and the mood. Mexico Pavilion is a great place to go cool down on those hot summer days. I wonder if another reason to set the mood in the dark, so they can set the air conditioning to cool where as if they set the mood in daytime it would not fit to be cool / cold in Mexico as its normally warm there in the daytime???

    • @disfarers

      I didn't even think about that, yeah! The dark atmosphere definitely lends itself to set things cooler and draw more people in. Very subtle. And it could very well be true. Space Mountain (DL) was the first roller coaster I rode. I would not ride the original at MK til over 30 years later. Is this the first time an attraction was first developed at MK before being copied at Disneyland? I would love to see a 4-track space mountain built, but it would probably cost prohibitive. Great video and Arrow Development was a great company that helped pioneer many rides for DIsney and other parks.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers 3 місяці тому

      I've learned a ton about Arrow Development since making this episode. My episode in July will go over just WHY Walt became so enamored by Arrow, so please check in. It's really interesting. I would have loved to see a four track Space Mountain too. But I understand the reasoning for lack of space. It's just a shame so many other aspects weren't incorporated into it too. And I wish I could say Space Mountain was my first roller coaster. You're really lucky. Mine was the Kamikaze at a local fairground.

    Love these fun series of videos. You don't realize what you had, until it's gone. Like the people mover and the astro jets at Disneyland, these attractions allowed guest to have a bird's eye view of the park and a brief escape for the busy park below. Loved how it went through the Matterhorn. I figured the Skyway's demise was a combination of multiple factors, which you had mentioned. But a few years back, I discovered a scale model of the original skybuckets in a backyard railroad exhibit.

    • @disfarers
      @disfarers 3 місяці тому

      What?!! That's so crazy it was in a backyard railroad exhibit. I recently saw a video where a Disney Monorail was out behind some commerical area building. Just....sitting there for anyone to look at or jump in. They're supposedly refurbishing it but it's still out in the open to the elements. The Skyway was such an awesome ride though. Whenever I get to thinking about it I get an itch to create an episode about the Skyliner. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
