Sounding great! The Dynamic Duo 🎸😎
@@paulgeorgia8013 Thank you very much, Paul! You're as kind as ever.🫂
I've just got my sg200 and wow what a guitar. Was going to buy standard Epi j200 but feel sigma sounds better.
@@karjuntsang6365 Standard EJ-200 isn't as good! IBG might be as good tonally. Which model did you get exactly? Congratulations!
@@LegsONThanks mate. The EJ200 is good for a beginner. I've always loved the sound of a Gibson but way out of budget. I then bought the SGA200, the same as in the video
@karjuntsang6365 In the video we have GJR-SG200, it's not the same. ;) Did you try Epiphone Custom SJ-200?
@@LegsON oh right. Too many models haha mines GJA SG200 but that sounds incredible too.
sound wise which one do you like more
@@sasha-v4j Definitely EJ-200, but I wouldn't recommend this model.
@@LegsON do you think 7/8 size jumbo guitar would sound comparable to 4/4 size dreadnought ?
@@sasha-v4j Don't worry about that 1/8th. If materials and build are good, it will sound big.
Hello again man, I ended up getting this model, out the box my pick gaurd is lifting near the bridge, can I ask if you did anything to sort yours ? Loving it apart from this. Dylan Thanks
@@dylan3058 Hi! Mine is lifting a tiny bit, like 3-5mm in one angle. Contact your seller, Epiphone USUALLY provides with a new pickguard in such cases.
@@LegsON evening mate , where would I be able to see your fret board after you’ve waxed plz?
@@dylan3058 Hi! I will make a video in a month. Reach out to me on Instagram to see photos quicker, I'm @legs__on there.
Ma quanto riverbero hai messo? 😂😂😂
@@jolietjake642 Dude, I did ZERO sound effects in this video. No reverb, no eq, no compression.
I've been meaning to try these new Custom styles Inspired by Gibsons. I hear they're a big step up from the already impressive Inspired by Gibson line! Great video
@@BrianMcCullarMusic Thank you! 100%, the torrefied tops are 2 steps above the IBG/Masterbilt models. UNBELIEVABLE tone.
Excellent video!
@@BrianMcCullarMusic Thank you! I got so bummed it got no traction at all. I grew to love the mellow sitka solid top more!
It certainly sounds great, there’s no question of that in listening to it. However, for it have this level of fit and finish, or lack of quality, at over $1,500, is ridiculous. I get there’s a market for these higher end Epi’s, but I wonder if Gibson is tapping into this market in order to drive the Gibson production models even higher in price. I mean just look at the J-45… but then again everything is expensive today and there’s no end in sight to the rise. Anyway, the finish is pretty bad and I really appreciate your straight forward review bc it’s an enticing guitar and I was looking to buy one, but not with this level of finish and lack of rosewood, not at $1500.
@@RRW276 Hi! This finish is very nice, I like it a lot. It looks and feels good, it's a tiny bit glossy, not fully dull/satin. After several months, what really bothers me is a HUGE neck, however my small-hands friends still find it very comfortable. I got used to laurel look and sharp binding as well. Still don't like the latter. It IS a beautiful instrument anyway, it IS vintage-looking, but its cosmetics don't reach the deluxe level of beauty. At the same time, some 400$ guitars do, but sound absolutely mediocre. This guitar has a torrefied top and it MATTERS, it's fantastic. You can get a better-looking guitar at this price point, but not a jumbo. I highly recommend you still find a way to test it. Mine might have been a relatively bad sample.
Hey guys I feel like I have to let you guys know that the new epiphone inspired by the Gibson custom shop acoustic guitars are being completely misrepresented in the literature. I went on a rabbit hole after buying the J200 when I saw a piece of paper that said the pickup was the LR Baggs VTC "BRONZE ". I wasn't sure what that meant since it's supposed to be the exact same pickup as the ones shipped with Gibson guitars. Long story short, it isn't. The bronze is basically a knockoff made overseas, I reached out to LR baggs directly and they confirmed that they are different pick-ups, compared to an actual element they not remotely close. It has also some major mechanical differences as well like the tone knob not having a center position like the actual VTC. It's a low quality pickup that is basically licencing the LR Baggs name. I know it's unrelated to this post but I didn't know how else to warn you guys. I have the full exchange with LR baggs on my email and can provide you guys with screenshots if you need it. I figured this is something you might want to know when reviewing this guitar, it also applies to the J45 banner and the J180. Big fan of the channel.
Hi, thanks for thje praise! You know, I'm 99% sure all LR Baggs are made in Asia, no matter what they told you. 3865023 guitars a year are produced in Asia and use Fishman and Grover, and even LR Baggs (SIGMA, Alvarez, etc). It's crazy to think such simple, dare I say cheap things are manufactured in US and not Asia. At the end of the day, piezo is piezo, be it basic Sonitone or VTC. I had both, and while the latter is more pleasant, it's still a quacky glassy piezo tone. So nothing to pull hair about, really. Buy a Fishman Mic Blend and you'll get the best pickup.
Hey man, you still enjoying this guitar ? Finally came into stock in Thomman today, ordered 😎
@@dylan3058 Absolutely, it's tone is terrific!
Amazing 😊👍🎶
@@AlexandersGuitarplay Thank you! I have English version of this one and other videos on my channel!

What’s the price on this thing.
@@Musicman431 400$
The question is how does the 57 Gibson SJ200 at 6300 USD compare to this epiphone copy. Your review is so good from all angles that right now my answer to that question is "it depends" . I have to give it to the real gibson for sound quality if recording and perhaps live performance for playability. Only time will tell on construction shortcuts. But hands down that for the 1500 USD here in the US it appears to be a fantastic value.
@@georgelincoln5041 Thank you very much for such high praise, George! This guitar is definitely not as comfortable as a Gibson, since it has a very fat round neck. Gibson will be a bit lighter Binding being almost perfectly square isn't pleasant either. Gibson is more beautiful with at least but more attention to detail. We all know Gibson QC can be a mess, however. Speaking of the tone, there are comparisons and Gibson is more open and bassy, but the difference is not at the "toy vs a real instrument" level. More of a "great guitar vs a very good guitar". This is THE best J-200 premium yet budget-friendly copy. Definitely a GREAT value.
I love my jumbo :)
That sir is one NICE LOOKING GUITAR ! .. I like the darker colored top one... The fretted notes sound so good with the open notes! I couldn't understand you speaking....... BUT .. that's ok I still watched to hear your playing and the guitar tones! ALSO Sub to your channel... ! ! ! !

I have yet to find a good J200 copy. Im not surprised you found some flaws....it is custom shop after all 😂😂😂 Good vid, calling it out...good or bad!
@@stevebernard221 Haha, good one! Yep, most Gibsons always had ridiculous minor flaws. This is hands down the best J-200 copy.

Can you tell me that last song you were playing? It sounded very good. Thanks.
Hi! Thanks, sure: ua-cam.com/video/fFgxgYDOXfg/v-deo.html Or look for other recordings of "Евгений Маргулис 40 лет".
Great review, man! I own this one, but also a Gibson J200 custom. The latter is of course superiour in everything (ebony, rosewood, abalone and all that), but the neck is thinner. I like the thick neck of my Epi much better, even though I don't have very large hands. But I like the feel of it. And it's the best acoustic Epi I have ever had.
Thank you very much! That's interesting and unexpected, thank you for sharing your opinion! This guitar is definitely the best sounding Epiphone I ever played, and the best sounding guitar I played in general. Though I've never played anything "better" than US D-15.
Шикарный обзор, очень круто что можно послушать обе гитары в разных музыкальных контекстах
СПА СИ БО!
Спасибо за обзор, очень познавательно. Великолепное звучание!
Спасибо тебе! <3
Hello my friend! I could not get the details, so I will just say that both sound good, but the darker top guitar is far superior. It sounds amazing! Live Forever!! 👋🎸😎
Thanks for stopping by, Paul! That's a very interesting take, what is it you prefer about the darker top's tone?
@@LegsON I hear more bass response, and more balance. The lighter top is very bright, but that’s not a bad thing. Especially when recording a rhythm track. Usually there is already enough bass on a recording, and a brighter guitar can fit in the mix better
Thanks for the honest review man, I just subbed to the channel. I have an Epiphone Masterbilt dreadnought that is superb; sounds good and attention to detail is very good. Has what i consider to be their best electronics in it (eSonic2). it sounds like they've slackened their quality which is sad. As to the sharp binding, can i suggest you look at the solution classical guitarists use? A stick on that rounds this section of the guitar out. If you hunt 'guitar arm rests' you will find them.
Thank you very much, Trevor!🫂 I have a Masterbilt too, AJ-500 RNS from 2008. Don't wanna put armrest on to screw with my right hand position.
@@LegsON Nine is from the same series only the dreadnought DR-500MCE :-)
Always disliked the mustache. Ugly.
I’ve had this for about 2 weeks and love it. I didn’t have any of the issues you had with this one. My fit and finish was flawless. Anyway. I highly recommend this guitar. I also have the es355 and the 1959 Les Paul standard. ABSOLUTE BEASTS.
Hi! Thanks for commenting. Don't believe you didn't have ANY issues, since most of them are based on manufacturing. For example, I bet all of these guitars use transparent glue in the crown inlays, and that nut and saddle are rough.
Tbf when I was in showroom, the guy who was getting it off the wall for me to try, warned me these are notorious for having sharp nut, was defo sharp.
@@dylan3058 EXACTLY! No way such thing would be inconsistent in the first bunch of this new model. Saddle's bottom was cut poorly as well.
@@LegsONI did have the same issue with the flame being more on the side you don’t see. Also, the shop I bought my guitar from does a full set up and inspection on the guitar and maybe addressed some or most of these issues.
@@mikepj1025 Oh my Gooood, the Epiphone builders surely are SOMETHING.🤣
I love that you mention the Sigma GJA-SG200. I bought my Sigma for $1400 CAD and actually brought it to L&M to test against a Gibson J200. It sounds scarily like a Gibson J-200. But I also got to try the Sigma with this Epiphone and my goodness the Sigma wins by a landslide. Sigma for the win and generally $800 to $1000 cheaper. I'm aware the Sigma is laminate back and sides, but so was the J200 for a long time.
Thanks for commenting! You should check out my channel for Sigma reviews. This Epiphone is a 2024 model SJ-200. Either Sigma jumbo is no match for it. I have both all-solid and the solid-top Sigma jumbos, my particular Epiphone is undeniably superior in tone. It got more treble, greater sustain, and is much more responsive. However, the fit and finish of Sigmas is MUCH better. What you speak of I guess is the 2021 J-200 model, with a different bridge and headstock. And in that case I believe your words, both solid-top and all-solid Sigmas most likely sound better than that older model.
Beady Eye?? 17:08 , great review also
Yep, I'm a big fan! :) Thank you!
Anyone know if Is this worth almost double than last version? Thanks
Absolutely. 1. The IBG J-200 has neither case, nor gigbag. If you want one, that's +100-200$. This IGC has deluxe hardshell case. 2. IBG has worse bridge design, it's heavier and dampens the tone. IGC has original lighter bridge design. 3. IGC haa torrefied top. That's EASILY worth +300$. The difference between non-torrefied and torrefied top is STRONG. 4. IGC has bone pins from factory, that's ~50$ of value. 5. IGC is bigger, and it's a true J-200 shape. IBG is thinner abd smaller, abd it's kinda squashed. 6. Some say IBG has unscalloped bracing. This one is scalloped, MASSIVE improvement. Torrefied top, better bridge design, bone pins, GORGEOUS headstock, hardshell case, true body shape and size... At the end of the day, it's a guitar that sounds MUCH better and looks MUCH better.
Hey man, thanks for replying, your gonna make me pull the trigger on one 😂
I have a Martin d10 atm and gonna sell, as I love this epiphone
@@dylan3058 I think it's going to be well worth it! Do you have small hands? This model's neck is rather thick.
No im 6”4 with big ish hands lol , I had a shot of this on Sunday in shop but don’t really like playing in the shop ha, but did sound nice, I love my Martin too but it’s a bit plain and I have always loved j200 Can’t keep the pair 😢
Gorgeous guitar. This model especially looks amazing with the stinger on the back and the bound headstock
It is! I'd prefer the plain maple headstock, but the stinger is very vintage, I like it! The J-200 copies always hade bound headstocks.
Hi Igor, around 27:30 or such, just beautiful sounding fingerstyle tones. The sustain was pretty killer. The small details were disappointing, which is something Epiphone better get their hands around. I think it sounded great, but the small build details were certainly a bit disappointing. Great review on your end and I agree about the sound, it’s great. Great review, brother man 👍🏻
Oh yeah, the sustain is surely SOMETHING! I always thought my guitars had sustain as good as it gets. NOPE. This one is superior, decay is much smoother. Thank you very much for dedicating your time to watching this! If you don't despise fat neck and don't have a J-200 style guitar, this is the best value for money!
Fantastic review, my friend. Such great detail, and great playing which shows the great sound of this guitar. I would totally be in on it, but I'm SO worried about the fat neck. As we discussed, with my small hands, I really don't like super fat necks. Thanks for the great, in depth review. You really covered every inch of the guitar. By far, the best review of this guitar yet. Thank you!!
Thank you very-very-very much, Paul! Been looking forward to getting it for weeks, as well as finally delivering the promised review! Really hope it'll get some decent amount of views.😅 I've been laughing at various stupid things in fit and finish, but at the ende of the day it's a GREAT guitar overall, it's still VERY high quality, beautiful and with GREAT tone. As I said, I'd buy it again without any second thought, the sound is THAT good. Now I'm trying to part ways with 4 guitars, and no one's buying them, what a pain in the ass. After this Epiphone, playing my Sigma jumbos makes my left hand feel at ease. That should tell you more than enough about how thick Epiphone neck is. I guess that's partly done in order to reduce probability of headstock breaks. Also, sad and funny that no retailer would ever tell you how thick the neck is. They'll just say something like "the neck is not slim" or "rather chunky but comfortable".
Outstanding review. We have the standard model "Inspired by Gibson" Epiphone J-200, and love it. The solid maple back and sides on ours has some of the nicest flame I've seen on any guitar too. It's crazy they are the price they are. They play and sound like a much more expensive guitar. I am a huge fan of all the "Inspired by Gibson" or Masterbuilt series guitars that are being offered up by Epiphone.
Thank you very much! Yep, yours is truly a one-of-a-kind gem! UNBELIEVABLE maple! Unfortunately, most other IBG J-200s are rather plain.
Such a gigachad!
Awww, you're flattering me!💋
Such detailed review Such similar looking guitars Such different tone they have Much wow
Thank you VERY much for your time!
Brother , I will have to say that both are beautiful guitars ,, which one the best ,,, that would be hard. I love Adi top and I have a thing for Rosewood ,, then Abalone is my thing also. So that said I the solid woods just has their own thing , that little "Push" over laminate. Thanks for sharing this and I will be waiting on the new Epiphone comparison video !
Thank YOU for checking my work! :) Yep, an all-solid abalone-inlaid jumbo would be a dream!
Both sound great. That said, I completely agree that the solid rosewood back and sides add a level of depth and richness that honestly surprised me. I can see why you are impressed with this manufacturer. A really well done video, my friend. The sustain caught my attention on both guitars. Sigma are now in my sights. Appreciate your kindness in mentioning the channel, brother man 👍🏻
Thank you very much for checking my comparison out, Randy! The new 1957 Epiphone SJ-200 is on it way to me, can't wait to review it!!! These guitars sound very different from the front and from the player's position, they're very "forward". While all-solid clearly wins, it's truly surprising how well solid-top holds up against it. I own 3 Sigmas, 2 all-solid and 1 solid-top, and they're not the most budget friendly guitars, the looks and production are really a step or two above the competition. I think their best value for money is SDR-45, all-solid sitka-rosewood D-45 for 1500$. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I didn't have a 40-style jumbo! The sustain is very good, yes. That's largely due to replacement of HEAVY tuning machines with lightweight ones, bridge ramping, and removing the tone-killing undersaddle elements. I highly recommend everyone to minimize tuning machine weight (by swapping machines or at least using wooden/plastic buttons) and remove undersaddle pickups.
@@LegsON All great points, brother man 👍🏻
- Both? - Both is good.
Both sound fantastic, but the solid wood has more mid range, and I think more projection overall. And thanks for mentioning me! ❤️🎸😎
Thanks for stopping by! :) I've been so surprised how the solid top holds up against the all solid one. And since Sitka is much mellower, these guitars have pretty different timbres, it's not like the all solid one is exactly solid top on steroids. Both are very inspiring and gorgeous in their own way.
Wow - a really thought provoking video, and my opinions changed at least twice throughout. For me, the SJ200 had more presence right up until the last comparison and then I couldn’t separate the two with a fag paper. Not sure either of them is for me but an excellent comparison no the less.
Thank you very much for your kind words, Richard! I'm really glad to hear people are enjoying my creations, and thanks for checking this video out! I was surprised with how similar these guitars sound after all. Yep, sometimes the difference is clear, sometimes there's hardly any! In the end, jumbo is somewhat richer abd fuller, but it's also bigger abd older. I plan to release some VERY cool comparisons, reviews and guitar aging experiments, would love of you stayed around for them!
EJ-200 sounds better in every single example. Great video!
Thank you VERY much! Glad at least someone liked it. :D EJ-200 is not a piano by any means, but it's a good guitar. and bigger body definitely matters. I sold the cutaway, it was alright but turned out that for rhythm player like me there's literally no use for a cutaway, but it takes away from the tone greatly.
@@LegsON at this point, I have sold all my acoustics EXCEPT 4 jumbos and 3 17" archtops.
@@blacksunfish Perfectly understandable!🤩
А как эта гитара к тебе попала. Она же на складе пылилась.
Я не знаю, почему она не продалась раньше.)
А зачем эта штука? Если не секрет.
Для крепления ремня и игры стоя.)
Топчик! Отличное исполнение!
Merci!
Sounds great ! 🎸😎
Thank you as always, Paul! :)
Great review and your English is excellent. Too bad they put electronics in everything these days. I like my acoustics to be acoustic.
Thank you very much, mate! :) This pickup is pretty good. Also, removing it from under the saddle takes 5 seconds, and 20 to put it back. So don't worry too much about that. The guitar is excellent. It's opened REALLY well after I've been treating it with the vibrospeaker for over 100 hours
LOL, My advice would be both...That is some sound advice .
Both what?
@11:00 you say Both. I thought you were comparing the Epiphone and AMI. Also, I can't find this model in California anywhere. Is this a European thing?
@@yourmomsdildodrawer Yes, Sigmas aren't distributed in US as far as I know. Only a few castrated AMI models. Martin and Gibson don't want another strong competitor.😁
I have the EJ-200 made in 2012. I liked the AJ-220SCE better....Great comparison.
Thanks! It's definitely more comfortable, and it's built better. EJ-200 guitars are built like tanks. :(
