Welcome to our MTB channel! We’re just a couple of guys from a small town in Pennsylvania shredding trails wherever we can. We are excited to bring you awesome content that will inspire you and make you laugh. Now let’s ride!
Is the Frederick Watershed the East Coasts North Shore?
Blaine and Sam show me around the push/dh trails at the Frederick Watershed in Maryland. This is my first time riding on this side of the shed. I've only ever ridden the flow trail side (Catovid/Boundary Line/Kubla Kahn).
The push trails are exactly how they sound. They are a web of trails that after riding one trail, you push back up to ride a different one. These trails are short, but have lots of interesting features that are reminiscent of mountain biking the North Shore. Lots of cool wood work throughout the trail system. I didn't even ride half of what is out here. My buddy Blaine has videos of the other push trails that showcase all of the other cool wooden features throughout.
Check his channel out below:
ua-cam.com/users/blaine142
The dh trails are steep and difficult and some of the best riding the Shed has to offer. Most of the dh trails are used in the Sheduro race series, so they are legit. I had a great time riding with Blaine and Sam. The shed is definitely my favorite place to ride. If you are ever near here...it's a must ride destination for any mountain biker.

Mountain Biking "Heaven or Hell" Trail
Переглядів 5482 роки тому
Today, the Dirt City crew goes to Mont Alto, PA to ride Heaven or Hell and the Loam Ranger trail. It had just rained before we arrived, so conditions were very slippery. Throughout Heaven or Hell there are multiple line choices (easy to more difficult) but due to lack of grip, we skipped some of the harder lines that had steep rock rolls. After riding Heaven or Hell we climbed back up to ride t...

Riding Big Hog Ridge Trail with my buddy John. This trail has quickly become one of our favorites in the Michaux State Forest and has something for every level of rider to have a good time. Trail Forks has it listed as an intermediate trail, but I think it is borderline expert with all of the rock gardens. I highly recommend shuttling as the climb is pretty long and tiring. Showing my buddy Blaine some of the best mountain bike trails in the Michaux State Forest. I take him on the full Bitch trail, Michaux Jump Line, Fire Line, and Bong. We had a blast riding these trails and I'm stoked to have made lot's of progress since my last time riding them, especially on the double black diamond trail called Bong. If you are looking to ride in the Michaux, then these trail...

Being busy with school and work, it was nice to get out for a ride with the crew at the Frederick Watershed in Maryland. I was joined by Josh, John, Bill, Blaine, and of course Uphill Mike. We all had an awesome time shuttling the entire day and getting as many laps in as possible. I personally was stoked to make progress on features that I had previously skipped last time I was here. Uphill Mike, Josh (along with Ein), and I go for a ride in the Michaux State Forest. I had one of those off days, where it felt like I was new to Mountain Biking. I didn't get my groove back until the end when we hit the jump line on Fern Gully. Always a fun time mountain biking with good friends and even furry ones. I was messing around with some GoPro settings for low light scenarios. I think...

Best Trail in the Shed? | Mountain Biking Kubla Khan | Frederick Watershed

Today I am joined by Josh and Chris. We take on the infamous Kubla Khan trail at the Frederick Watershed in Maryland. This is a very technical trail with a little bit of everything thrown at you. This is easily one of the best trails at the shed and a must ride. All features have a ride around as well, so this trail can be ridden by almost anyone.

You were on old Rattlesnake. The new trail to the left early on is way more technical. Probably why it was so overgrown.
Really respect your riding skills, but I've mountain biked all over the United States and Michaux is probably the worst place I've ridden and I live less than 3 miles from the entrance to Michaux. Most of their trails are not mountain bike trails, they're trails people mountain bike but weren't originally designed for mountain biking. Good video and you are a very good rider. Thanks.
Hi Wanna ask I have the same bike with you stance 29 2 what are the things that needs to be upgraded for stance to be capable of enduro and downhill riding? Thanks
I Discovered that trail many years ago by accident trail blazing down to get water at the stream,I down loaded the “all trails” app not long ago and realize it was a real trail, I don’t ride mountain bikes tho just hiking and camping, I use to ride my BMX on the dead women hollow rd. Tho haha, that’s a nice area I’ve been all through those off trails or no trail at all lol👍🏼 have you gone to the Cabin? You can drink that water right from the streams that’s what’s nice about the area
Always fun discovering new trails rather hiking or biking. I’m not sure what the “Cabin” is? Is that the name of a trail?
@@DirtCityMTB I was looking through the channel and saw a couple trails I haven’t heard of, I’ll have to check them out, you got balls man riding on some of those off trails they get pretty crazy even on foot haha, and no there’s a cabin near there called “Anna Michener” on the blueberry trail there’s a map at the top in the parking area, that whole area is cool, I’m a local I guess you’re near there too?
@@outdoorvideoswithbrad oh okay, I didn’t know the name but if it’s the one you mentioned on blueberry then I do know that cabin. Was not aware about the water though. That trail is very difficult to ride by the way lol.
@@DirtCityMTB ok cool, ya I’m sure it was difficult lol, sorry I can’t always watch videos cause I don’t have internet I’m using data, but I’ll leave comments or likes
It’s a really fun line they just need better landings😂😂 nah I’m joking but the trails there are amazing
Definitely some fun times to be had in Michaux and some landing would be nice or just me landing better would be nice lol.
Good riding and good job on video editing👍
Thank you!
What travel is your bike?

Hey buddy, i rendered my video the same way you did, but my problem is the file is about 166GB big for a 20min GoPro Video. Is this normal? Thank you for your help!
That seems rather large for a 20 minute video. Are you filming in 4k or 5k?
@@DirtCityMTB On my GoPro i record in 2.7k and 60fps, i thought its important to render in 4k to get the vp09 Codec on yt
@@timmymtb up scaling the footage from 2.7 to 4k will definitely change the file size drastically. You’re better off rendering the footage at the same resolution as you filmed in. If you want 4k, then I would film in 4k. The higher frame rate will also make a larger file size. The codec should be H264 when you render.
I have the same exact bike. I’m wanting to switch it over to a 1x system but haven’t made my mind up. I wasn’t wanting to go to crazy and would be keeping the Praxis cranks adding the 32 or 30 chainring Up front. Did you have somebody switch out the hub on the rear? Also the front? What did you go with?
I did all of the upgrades myself. I kept the crank set and did not have to change the hubs. I went with the Sram NX 12x.
I found a really good deal on the NX 12 speed set up. Is the crankset replaceable with the NX crank? Which size is the Giant BB compatible with?
@@MrJimburg21 not sure about the size, but you’ll need a press fit BB.
I have a Garmin Edge 830 with may help also.
I'd love to ride with you guys. I live in Mechanicsburg. Hit me up if I can ride with you, please.
Of course. We haven’t been riding very much due to our schedules, but hit us up on our social so we can message you when we do ride.
Serious fun! Thanks for sharing my friend!

Nice work on the drops! We have this ride in our sights but I think we're going to shred the new side again soon. Love the Shed!
Thank you man! The new side is a lot fun too! You’ll enjoy the push and dh trails. The dh trails are no joke. I’ve been to a few bike parks and some of these dh trails are steeper and gnarlier.
Fantastic! Love the drop off the rock feature!! Solid riding 👏🏼👏🏼🍻
Thank you! Progress is fun.
@@DirtCityMTB 💯 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I feel your pain when you video tape the whole day and it’s shaky, good usage of it anyways. Your colors look real good. I also found the voice overs funny especially the ~4:11 part where you said something like you knew how the rest of the day was going to go hahahaha. good to see what it looked like from your angle 🤘🏻
Lol what I showed wasn’t even all of my struggles. It was fun riding with you guys though. Let’s do Cacapon next?
Lol! Yep yep, I’m down for that
This must have been filmed a while ago. Those push trails are gone now.
Just filmed last weekend. The push trails are still alive.
@@DirtCityMTB man someone must have cleaned that one up. dnr closed it with a ton of downed trees. that's surprising.
@@the_jtown1952 there were some that had downed trees all over the trail, but there are still a lot of push trails that are open.
Pretty gnar man! Awesome job with the big drop. Some of that looks similar to Mt. Penn
Thanks dude! Definitely been wanting to check out reading. I could session some jumps at Mt Penn and hopefully get more comfortable jumping. You from that area?
@@DirtCityMTB I agree, if you like tech you would love Mt Penn. Great job on the video brotha!
@@TrailSage thanks a lot man! It’s on the list for sure.
@@DirtCityMTB I’m basically right in the middle of everything. I’m an hour from mt. Penn / Birdsboro and an hour from northern Michaux
That looks gnarly🤙🏻. Too much front brake at the end ?You had it!!
It was very gnarly. That was just the last half and not the whole section I cleared before this section. My foot just slipped off the pedal at the end (flats). You can hear my bike slam hard at the bottom. Next time lol
I was just at Michaux for the first time (biking) last week. I liked 3 Pines and I remember that first climb at Astronomy very well mostly bc I wasn’t expecting it lol. That trail definitely pushed my hardtail to the limit on the descent.
Yeah, that turn on Astronomy comes up on you quick after a turn lol. You gotta be in the right gear pretty quickly to get up it. Very fun trails though. What did you think of the DH part on Astronomy?
@@DirtCityMTB the dh part was legit. It was a bit much on my Roscoe 6…my brakes got a workout lol. I live near the Frederick watershed and some of the sections I rode at Michaux reminded me of some of the blue trails at the shed (catovid, buck flats, blue balls, vw, etc), which makes sense since it’s basically part of the same mountain range. At some point, I’d like to go back and check out the lower and upper parts of Michaux. Rothrock is on my radar, too.
@@alxbrooks lots of good stuff in Michaux. I will say I love riding at the Watershed a lot more though. Catovid is a great trail too.
@@DirtCityMTB yea the one thing I noticed around the trails I rode at Michaux (which was really only Camp trail, 3 pines, and Astronomy) was that they had a bit more overgrowth. I liked how Michaux felt more remote, though. I actually rode the shed today...I highly recommend the Catoctin Blue to Huggy Bear/Lawnmower and back up to VW/Knucklebuster loop, if you haven't tried that one already. It's got enough rocks to appeal to advanced riders, but for a rocky trail it had some fun flow to it.
@@alxbrooks yeah, the trails aren’t so overgrown in the beginning of Summer. There is no bike organization that takes care of them. I was at the Shed today as well lol! I rode the push trails and one the DH trails called Hoe. That was some difficult riding.
Good video been wanting to ride that trail looks good. Did you follow Trailforks directions and go with the arrows or start from the opposite direction.
Thank you! Definitely start from the opposite direction that Trailforks shows, unless you want to climb the trail the entire time. So we rode the TV Trail all the way to the top. I hope that helps.
Yeah sure does thanks I’ll be checking it out asap hopefully
New here. Nice video and great trails. Thanks for sharing it bro. RIDE ON 👍
Thanks man! You new to the area?
@@DirtCityMTB no man, New Sub
@@MTB-Portugal Oh, I got ya now. Thank you for the sub! Much appreciated.
Nice! ...and which song is this?
Thanks! The song is called “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum.
I’m going to start doing intros like you when I ride with you. “Whaaaaaaat’s up guys” lol. Loam ranger does look good. Some of true stuff was super dark when you looked up in the tree line did you still darken it? The rest looked prime
Always need an intro 🙂 I did zero darkening or color grading, except for the two rock slab sections that were taken with a phone to match it better with the rest of the video.
Ok I just rewatched it’s and I think it me watching it in direct sunlight affecting it lol sorry. Those settings do look good. I like the 3rd person phone too
@@blaine142 yeah, GoPros don’t adjust very quickly when the lighting changes from a brighter area to a darker area.
Nice job in those slick conditions. Love those tech features!
Thanks man! I tried, but it was like riding on a sheet of ice. Even in the dirt I would slide off the trail. We had fun nonetheless.
Awesome content buddy 🤩🤘🔥
Thank you! I try to.
Looks a tough ride 🚴♂️
The wetness made it more difficult that what it really is (not that it’s not difficult). We were sliding out and losing grip constantly. Thank you for watching!
Hell yea !! Bong is no joke
Yeah, it felt really good finally feeling comfortable on it. Very cool trail!

@@DirtCityMTB will do sometime Thanks. I’m in the process of upgrading my scott spark 940. Need more travel that can handle more of micheaux. How do you like the Pike fork? I am currently running fox 34 rhythm.
@@Sunshine-wn5ev the Pike is very smooth and can handle bike park as well. Expensive, but worth it.

Где НЕ ступала нога человека.
Except for my friend that went down it first lol
Nice!!! How long did it take you? Is there a lot of climbing ? Thanks man!!!!
Thanks! Roughly 3 1/2 hours with the climb. The climb back took about an hour. We did stop occasionally to rest and to session a few things. The Big Pond Hollow Road climb back does suck though. It’s a dirt/gravel road and is just shy of 4 miles long. If using Trailforks, start at the opposite end in which the trail was recorded. You should end the trail on Big Pond Hollow.
The opening section needs some serious love, that overgrowth was insane. Once you got in the woods it looked awesome! Love those rock garden sections. So is this labeled "Big Hog Ridge" on Trailforks? Great riding boys!
Thanks man! I’d say okay riding. Those rock gardens kicked my ass lol! It is labeled “Big-Hog Ridge Trail” on Trailforks.
Fool me once lol. After the 3 pines to astronomy pushing my current abilities to limit and being on a HT, This one I will tuck away for next year or maybe by this fall when I move to a FS ride!! Looks wild!!!
Lol a full suspension will definitely help on these trails. Always good to know your limits. Took me a year and half to ride Bong properly. You can easily walk these features if needed just to get a look and feel for them. I skipped them completely my first time, so don’t feel bad. Confidence is hard thing to get on the bike.
@@DirtCityMTB We will see, I just built a much more aggressive HT with all the parts I want for a future FS build so we are stepping it up slowly and by each paycheck. The endurance factor is more limiting than my willingness to send it right now. We were at Raystown last weekend, those are much more out of shape HT oriented and less Himalayan mountain goat like lol.
@@JimmyBeanz13 I know what you mean. My endurance is crap too lol! Super excited your build is coming along. A better bike can always turn a mistake into a save haha. Just keep riding as much as possible and you’ll be ready for these trails in no time.
Absolutely love this place. So many cool trail side features... kudos to the both of you!
Thanks man!
Serious question … how many bicep curls did Mike do immediately before you started filming that intro 😳😳😳🤣🤣🤣
Lol roughly 1000
Nice to see you guys back at it! I just picked up a new bike after way too many years away from it, so hopefully I'll run into some of you guys in order to learn my way around better. I'm in the Greenvillage area, so it's only a few minutes up the road. Hoping to get out this weekend to get the bike on dirt for the first time. Thanks for sharing your rides!

@@DirtCityMTB Cool! Will do! My old bike was a GT RTS-3 purchased back in like '93 and things have changed a lot since then. I went with a Giant Trance 27.5. It's all stock right now, but hoping it will be a solid start back into things. I'll be sure to reach out once I don't think I'd be holding anybody back. :lol Thanks again!
@@JermB1970 that’s a great bike! My buddy has a giant trance and it’s a very solid and reliable bike capable of pretty much any terrain. Welcome back to the sport and hope to see you out there.
@@DirtCityMTB Finally got out today for the first time on dirt with the new ride. Man...I'm so out of shape . It was pretty pathetic, so I'm glad I was by myself. I only did Milesburn Rd. to Greenwood over to Yellow Ridge, then down the Yellow Ridge Descent. Boy! Those rocks and ledges don't look nearly as rough, and were way steeper in spots than the video clips seem to reveal. All-in-all a great day to be out and a fun ride, though I did feel a little over my head for the first time out in so long. Didn't crash...so that's always a plus, but came close in a couple of spots. Can't wait for the next video to help stoke the momentum!
@@JermB1970 hell yeah man! Yellow descent is very fun. Glad you got out. How was the new bike?
Yo James the dual go pro & audio was sick. Let me know if you guys want to ride the shed or I’ll meet you in Michaux some where. I still want to check out the good stuff on Woodrow road. this is Blaine.
Hell yeah man! Let’s do it.
Welcome back boys! The duelling POV is genius and I hope to see more of it this summer. I need to take my group down to Milesburn soon. Have you guys ridden Canada Hollow on the next ridge over? I rode that at least 2x in the last 6 months and it's a lot of fun, not as steep as Astronomy though.
It feels great to be back out in the mountains riding again! We will definitely be keeping both GoPros and see what all we can do with two cameras. We have ridden Canada Hollow a few times. We should get a group ride together here?
@@DirtCityMTB We are usually in Michaux every weekend. Sometimes Saturday mornings, usually Sunday mornings. Anywhere from 3 to 12 guys depending on the weekend. We'll probably be getting a group ride together at Mont Alto soon.
@@mwzarcone we are usually Saturdays now. Mont Alto has lots of fun trails as well.
Good to see you back James. Mike is looking ripped! I hate when I get a mysterious creaking sound too, lol. Great riding by the both of you. I will have to check out some of these trails if I ever make back there. Shout out to Mike's Beard, lol.
Thank you so much! We’ll have to plan something this Summer and go riding somewhere.
We were up above Caledonia today. Your boy needs to hook me up with some gear for those raging climbs!!!

So happy you did a beginner video! I'm just beginning and I didn't think of the level pedals when coasting! No other video mentioned about that (that I remember). I live within a stones throw from Alligrippis, so I'm anxious to make my debut over there. BTW, I'm a 68 yo, SHORT woman!
Allegrippis is a great place to get started. That’s where I first started and I think it is great for all levels to enjoy. I’m glad you are able to take something from this video and hope you enjoy your time on the bike.
Just checked out your latest video on a MTN bike, and no offense dude, but wtf. Your videos are dark and grainy and slightly dull. Maybe re-watch em'. It may be me but the other 4k videos I watch are super sharp
Thank you for the critique. I went a little heavy on the blacks in my latest video, but I don’t see any grainy issues on my end. Have you checked my previous videos? I tend to like my videos to have a darker look, but you are right about my latest one. I crushed the blacks too much.
Also ensure your video settings in UA-cam are set to 4k for my videos. They may be showing you a lower resolution especially if you are watching over WiFi.
Me encanta como editas los videos! enhorabaunea
Thank you very much!
foul mouth
I stay true to myself. I have a foul mouth and I know that’s not for everyone, and you’re free to not watch my videos, but I won’t change who I am. I’m not going to bleep out my words either. I want to remain authentic to who I am.
Hi great vid man. I have some gopro 10 footage which came out terrible on DaVinci, very bitty and grainy, maybe I had my gopro settings wrong. Is there any way to fix this in post? Cheers!
Thank you! There are ways to help minimize the graininess of the image, but you won’t be able to eliminate it. Best bet is to ensure all settings on the GoPro are set for the best recommended setting. Furthermore, ensure everything is set properly for when you are rendering the footage. All of this is discussed in the video. Hard to fully help you when I don’t know what you have set up and what you have done.
Thanks, just getting started with my GoPro and DaVinci. Nice little easy to follow tutorial.
Hope you have a fun with the GoPro and I’m glad this video will help get you started.
