So tough to gauge the ratings at different locations. Some of the really rocky stuff throws me for a loop and then steeper/jumpier black diamond somewhere else is a cakewalk. Seems like you rode it well, IMO. Nothing to feel bad about. I'm back on a bike after many years away and trails are way tougher than what I rode in the late 90s/early 00s. You hit the nail on the head...get your head in it and feel confident and you'll feel so much better on these trails. The up-side to staying on the tougher trails is lots of bail-out practice :) Have fun!
Thank you very much and welcome back to the sport! Trails are definitely changing all of the time. I always say the mental aspect plays a huge role in how things go. Not feeling confident, but continuing anyway is a bad recipe. I do need to learn to bail now that I have been crashing more haha!
I've had that issue with the chain coming off the front ring and had to replace the narrow/wide ring in the front. Not sure if that is your issue, but it sure is frustrating. Also, Michaux is the real deal and southern Michaux is even wilder.
I love riding in the Michaux for its rawness. I actually have a 2x drivetrain, but my front derailleur got messed up at the bike park, so I’ve been running without (that’s why my chain keeps dropping). I have all of the parts to convert to a 1x now, but waiting on a few tools to do the change. I’ll have to checkout Southern Michaux sometime.
After my struggles on Glory Hole, I decided not to ride Bong. Honestly I was just having an off day. I have tackled trails just like Glory Hole without issue. My chain kept dropping as well at terrible times as you can see in the video. Unfortunately had a rough day.

Glory hole is pretty blue compared to bong. Bong has spots to get seriously injured if you're not 100% committed.

Rough looking trail. I think you did a pretty good job at tackling it.
Thank you! I wish I felt the same way.
Oh man you skipped all the good stuff.
Lol I know! I was pretty frustrated with myself that day. Things were just not going well the entire time. I will go back and try again for sure.
