    The Armstrong ( creek ) railway station was directly across ( Opposite )about 200-260 meters from the drive way into the Nethersole farm , , the post office was in the still standing farm house and the mail was picked up at the station morning and afternoon train service to Brisbane , than property owners would pick up the mail from the Nethersole farm , I spent much of my childhood school holidays on the farm and would walk with my uncle each day to pick up the mail until the line closed . I remember going on the little red rail motors to Brisbane with my mother, o so young . The rail bridge across the north pine river was used for many years as a road bridge as the road was washed out many times when I was a kid until a new road bridge was built

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes Місяць тому

      Great question! Occasionally I do wish the benchtops were a little higher, but generally don't have a problem. The fantastic aspects of travelling with a Jayco camper trailer certainly make up for this little inconvenience. Neither of us is overly tall, so that helps too. Our style of cooking (often one pan) means that we mostly don't have a lot of dishes, and there are just the two of us. Any cast iron - camp ovens and frypan - that we use, Joe washes outside as he likes to heat these on the Coleman gas stove. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Lea and Joe

    A lot of the downsides of the Hawk and others with the beds that extend out can be resolved by getting a Penguin. We travel a fair bit in ours, have camped in subzero temps and lousy weather but no problems with keeping warm, dry and no flapping canvas. Not that spacious but we’ve done a lot of mods recently and now have an indoor shower, much more comfy lounge area and plenty of little tweaks to improve our experience.

      Thanks so much for sharing that Chris. I’m sure the town has changed quite a lot since the 1960s. It’s a lovely area. Thank you for watching. Kind regards, Lea and Joe.

      @@RoaminWithTheRubes yes a lovely area, they sold blocks of land for $1 back in the nineties I think it was. Our shop was opposite the exchange hotel I’m pretty sure, in high st. Next door to the hotel was a tractor dealership, they were red, I’m thinking Massey Ferguson, anyway I went across the road this day and climbed up the big ladder that allowed access to the cabin of one of the bigger tractors they had, I was going great and got into the cabin but stuffed up and pushed the starter somehow. I just started screaming above the roar of the engine and was quickly saved from the big red beast, lol. Just a memory I have as a 4 or 5 yo I thought I would share. Happy safe travels to you both.🙂🇦🇺

      Your story gave us a little laugh Chris, but we do understand that you weren't laughing at the time! For a child of your age then it would have been very frightening. Such a temptation that tractor must have been for you, but we bet you thought twice before doing that again. Thanks so much for sharing this great story Chris.

    Awesome set of videos. Thanks for the tips. Just curious, when lubricating the lifting arms, you went out of your way to keep the silicone off the canvas. But when lubricating the zippers, you weren't worried about getting some on the canvas. What is your overall conclusion of getting the silicone on the canvas?

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes 2 місяці тому

      Hi Jim, glad you enjoyed the video. Good spotting on the silicon spray, I'm on the fence wether it affects the canvas outside, my only concern was the waterproofing so I just played it safe with the ply shield. It really doesn't stain the canvass inside. Next time I do a canvas clean and I'll see what the spray does to the waterproofing before I start. My guess is it'll be ok. Safe travels and best wishes, Joe and Lea

    We have a 2001 hawk outback, how does your solar setup work? Is it factory or aftermarket?

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes 2 місяці тому

      Hi Daniel, it's aftermarket and I installed it myself. I have a 160W Adventure Kings solar panel and Kickass MPPT controller onto a 120AH AGM battery , as we're mainly charging devices and running lights we don't need much more. Something like this is a good low cost solution: www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/160w-fixed-panel-mppt-12m-lead-kit.html I used the glue on mounts like this (get the black ones they last a lot longer) to hold them onto the roof: www.ebay.com.au/itm/385744907319?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=FErOd1P3Tri&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=Ymg5UDFjTKa&var=653527082240&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY and used Sikaflex 252 to glue them on. I hope that helps, Joe and Lea

    Hi Joe and Lea, just up from the Samford station the old railway line run adjacent to Station Street. My Mother and Father In-law lived (now my Sister In-law lives there), directly next to the line and there was a rail bridge across the creek. This is now a continuation of Station Street into the new estate. You can still some of the railway cuttings which go past what was the CSIRO. Thanks for sharing your wonderful information. TrickyTrev 👍🐝🍯

    Thanks for sharing. I did an exploration about 10 years ago. There are a few bridge remains left, albeit not much. Timber posts at Terrors Creek, as well as in a farm paddock visible and east of Dayboro (at Briscoe Rd) (you can also see the embankment). Cut off posts in North Pine River, station platform as per Closeburn at Samsonvale still remains (hidden in the grass), cut off posts in South Pine River near Warwick Lane and more cut off posts in Dry Creek - which is visible along the McClean Rd bikeway. The original telegraph line poles are still in place along McClean Road and Lanita Road (some, not all). These carry comms lines and are distinctively shorter than modern power line poles and have metal domed tops. Finally, the line alignment between Lanita Rd and McClean Rd is now a bikeway through the bush. Some the drainage culverts are original. If you didn't know what you were looking for, you'd never know.

We're going to have a look based on your notes and see what we can find. Best wishes, Joe and Lea.

      LOL, we love your feedback on the ‘toasties’. When we were kids…way back when they were called jaffles. Hope you found some tasty ingredients. The important question from us though is square or round? I have fond memories of my mum making round ones, and I still reckon they taste better - all in the head I think. Thanks heaps for watching and also for enjoying our channel. Cheers, Lea (and Joe) 😃

    I like how you promote use of axle stands. I am impressed the scissor jack has survived more than one use. I think a hydraulic floor jack is the way to go or the caravan specific bottle jack.

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the great feedback, the camper's scissor jack is ok. It has the height to do the lift, I am hoping to find a hydraulic solution though. Always have jack stands, just makes sense. Thanks for watching and your comment. Best wishes, Joe and Lea.
