    Your shorts came out beautiful! I sometimes have that same issue of the curved edges not catching the serger stitches. I noticed when I straighten out the curve instead of trying to turn the fabric, that helps it catch 💕

    You are so welcome. I usually don't give any suggestions because I am somewhat a beginner and still learning. Love your shorts they are 🔥. Can you tell me where you got your tracing paper and the hanger with multiple rows at? Amazon has a double tracing wheel tool that will trace the pattern and seam allowance at the same time... if you see this message from than once, sorry. I have sent it three times, but it didn't show up. Can't wait to see how you style it.

      Hi Vanessa! No matter your level in sewing, we all can learn from each other. This is the link to the tracing paper. Transfer Paper and Tracing Paper... www.amazon.com/dp/B07PBBT1RK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share as for the hangers, I brought those so long ago. Likely from Walmart or Target. I’ll see if I can check my Amazon history and see if it’s there.

    If you want to make sure you follow your seam allowance perfectly but don’t wanna mark out the SA, you can get a magnetic seam guide for your sewing machine. I saw one on Wawak’s website for around $3. I’m still trying to figure out the tracing wheel myself 😅 Love the fabric you used for your shorts, they look good!

    • @Keshia_ZaziKCreations

      Thanks for your comment! Yes, I use the magnetic guide and at times painters tape to mark my allowances. They both work well. I just wanted to try something a bit different, sort of like sewing 098 when I first started 😆 . Tracing wheel isn’t so bad. Happy sewing!

    I would measure my seam allowance. I have used my salvage edge before. Once I sewn it up, the salvage didn't show because of the 5/8 seam allowance. Hope that helps. I hope this make since.

      Thanks it does help. I didn’t think about that but my pattern piece didn’t fully fit on the fabric. I’ll need to reassess how much didn’t make it and where. See that’s also why it’s important to read those instructions beforehand to understand the construction fully. lol 😆

      Hi Vanessa! I have a bodkin also, it’s worked sometimes but for some reason my elastic seems to get detached from the lock and get lost so I have to start over. I would recommend that you test wash a swatch of every new marker/tracing paper on the fabric prior to using it on your entire project. Just throw it in the wash when you wash the fabric prior to cutting. Some marker products are wax-based, some chalk, some ink. Combined with different fabric content = unpredictable outcomes. And it wasn’t your fault that the pockets were not cut out correctly. I have never seen such a goofy pocket placement as the one you showed from the pattern company. The pieces should have been all the way on the fabric as there was room. I loved the lessons you learned, especially the first one. Going slow is GOOD. It teaches us to enjoy the process. ❤️

    I forgot to say, you don't have to unpick the whole neckband, just an inch or two around the pucker.

  • @sewlovelywithgrace
    @sewlovelywithgrace 2 місяці тому

    OOOH I'm going to pick up that stain remover from the Dollar Tree! Thanks for the tip. For neckbands, always pin the folded band to the RIGHT side of the neck matching raw edge and notches. Right sides together. If you look at the illustration, the 2 notches are PRE sewing and the band is pinned to the right side of the neckline. Then it shows the band AFTER sewn all in the same drawing. The pins make the illustration confusing. You did a great job with the maroon top. You may be able to unpick the pucker and then stretch the neckband to fit the neckline and sew it again. Neckbands are tough. There are many videos on youtube that show how to put them in. That strawberry fabric has A LOT of stretch so you may want to size down whatever you sew with it. Take your time sewing. Make something you're in love with. Nothing else. I'm working on some Tees. Simple and low stress. I want to make a cape too!! Hope you have a wonderful vacation! 🥰🥰

    • @Keshia_ZaziKCreations
      @Keshia_ZaziKCreations 2 місяці тому

      Thanks Grace for the detailed explanation of this illustration. It was definitely confusing. 🫤. I wondered why the wrong side is showing in this step? I’ve done two neckbands before both from a double brush poly and they turned out ok. Yes. I will definitely size down on the strawberry fabric. I learned to size down when I made a simplicity shirt from a Walmart knit that had a lot of stretch.

    Ripstop is a raincoat type of nylon fabric. Headliner is a foam vinyl liner fabric. I use the Pellon EK130 Easy Fusible knit with all my knits. They have it in black and white. When the bag pattern lists 1A, 2A, 3A etc it means Fabric 1 for View A, Fabric 2 for View A and Fabric 3 for View A. Bag patterns sometimes use a variety of fabrics and they are labeled by the numbers. You don't have to make them from different fabrics. They can all be the same fabric. Hope that helps! Sorry for the multiple posts.

    You learned all the basic design elements! 🤩 Collar, placket, pocket, facing, button holes WOW! You picked a great pattern to learn these skills. You are now good to go with any pattern. 🥰Take your time and enjoy the process. Getting started is sometimes the toughest because I get bogged down with fabric selection. Sometimes the tracing paper is made of wax. It may come out depending on the fabric. What I do is test tracing paper on scrap fabric before using it and hand wash it. Try using Dawn with Shout spray with your existing stains. That should work. I never heard of air soluble marking pens. Interesting. This was a fantastic thorough analysis of lessons learned for this pattern. 11 hours is as long as it would probably take me. Speed is not important. I like to sew leisurely. Speed sewing is not fun for me. Now on to the next exciting pattern! 👗🎽👕👠

      Thank you Grace for this lovely comment! Yes, I do feel like I can do anything now! Lol well maybe not. But I do feel so encouraged in getting this done. Yes, there’s a very well known brand of air soluble markers out there. I did notice a difference in the feel of the newer tracing paper I purchased. I hope the original markings come out. I have a pretreatment stain remover I purchased that I’m giving a try. It worked before so hopefully it will work now. Thanks as always for your encouragement! #ConqueredThoseButtons with your support ☺️

    Try spot treating the stain with Dawn before going into the wash. Button holes aren't too hard once you get the hang of it. I always practice on the scrap fabric with my machine. I have a video on how I make buttonholes. You picked a very popular and awesome pattern. It has a lot of great design details. I didn't realize it had pockets too! Wow! Nice job on the collar. Collars are challenging. Talisha is a fountain of information! 💖 The shirt is looking good. Take your time and enjoy the process. I hope to enjoy some sewing over the holiday weekend! Happy sewing! 🪡

      Thanks for tip on using Dawn. I also have this solution I found at the dollar store has been good for pre treatment of fabric/stains. I found your video on buttonholes and it’s definitely going to help. Thanks for the encouragement as always!

    Yes. Hobby Lobby fabric is alwayson sale 40% off every other week! And their notions: zippers, thread, bias tape and buttons are ALWAYS 99 cents everyday. That waffle knit is amazing. I got a light tan of that and made S9857 set. My Hubby gets excited for fabric for him too! Beautiful family. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

    I have never participated in Me Made May because I don't have the bandwith for a daily video. My interpretation is that you upload a video daily and wear a me made and talk about it. I LOVE your caftan. So dramatic and flowy. It's always a good idea to interface the placket whenever there are button holes. Try iron steam to remove the interfacing. Tshirt knit will still work for S9314. Have a great weekend!

      Hi Grace!! Well clearly, I’m not ready for a #MeMadeMay challenge 😂😂I have no where near 30/31 garments I can wear as me made. And yes, a video daily. I’m not the woman for that. lol thanks for you compliment on my caftan. Another viewer/subscriber also recommended I remove the interfacing with a hot iron. I was only able to remove part of the interfacing in doing this. You know what, I may still look to do a t-shirt knit for S9314. I’ll see what we can find at Hobby Lobby this weekend. Again thanks for the lovely comments!

    Girl, pause… Heat that iron back up to as much heat as the fabric can take and steam that interfacing again to loosen it up, then peel it off. You have to finish that shirt! Or, if that doesn’t work for you, get another strip of that fabric to cover the interfacing.

      Thank you!!! I had not thought about that at all!!! The only thing is I also had to do some clipping across the top corners on the placket. So now I’m not sure what that would look like when I have to do the turning from another direction. And how it will impact the collar placement and the rest of what needs to be done. Does that make sense? But I’m going to give it a try.

    Girl, you are gonna make that button shirt and get all those new skills down pat! I also dislike pockets on button shirts and I am also busty.
