    The sense of "getting cat-face" in Polish is pretty funny. Cats does not have pointy noses like most of people in Poland, so by saying "do not be so nosy or you will get the cat-face" you implicitly suggest, that if that person will keep putting his/her nose in someone's business, it might get punched and flattened like a cat's face.

    Great video, especially the part on post-lovecraftianism captures a problem I've always had with lovecraftian inspired media so often being boiled down to a few tropes and tentacles, for what is the fear of the unknown if you know exactly what's going to happen (A big issue with Dredge). In my opinion lovecraftian media works best when it convinces you it isn't that and keeps the tentacles to a minimum, and it's why Sunless Sea is so great. Also great to see a fellow Polish lovecraft enthusiast lol

    After finding your channel from your most recent upload on the horror of Knowing and mentioning Signalis, as a huge Signalis fan I obviously had to go find this video afterwards. I have my own multiple theories, many that conflict and contradict each other, on what happens throughout the game and I love to hear others' interpretations. Yours is very interesting as well! I never really put much stock in the idea of an extraterrestrial entity encountering the Penrose, but it is a viable theory. Lnowing this video was uploaded a year ago, I'm sure you've thought long and hard on other theories so this is just gasoline on a long burning fire, but I'd like to add something for you to consider. Radio astronomy is one of our most reliable methods for investigating deep space and distant planets, galaxies, and stars. Radio waves are often very powerful from natural sources and can interact with and amplify other sources, or dissipate and break the waves, reducing it to static noise. One of my pet theories is that the events we experience when we're playing is a result of the original Penrose leaving the heliosphere and experiencing a radio wave burst which amplified the bioresonance of Ariane who, at the time, was suffering in her sleep pod from cancer and dreaming of how life could have been different if she had gone to Sierpinski instead. With amplified bioresonance her dreams would be made manifest and transform reality, allowing their ship to arrive in the depths of Leng, but also the signal was disrupted by the competing cosmic radio waves, making the dissonance and chaos that we see present throughout the world we experience. There is also a theoretical possibility that since bioresonance does seem to have a genetic component and thus some biological physical presence in bodies, Ariane could have developed cancer IN the cells where bioresonance occurs and everything we experience is a direct result of unchecked, malignant bioresonant growth dramatically escalating her powers, but because she has failing mental faculties is extremely chaotic and undirected.

      Hah, interesting. I knew that radio is used a bunch in the field, but not the full extent of it. Definetely something to think about, thanks!

    I remember seeing the cover of Chainsaw Man vol. 1 on the shelves at a book store I was perusing. I was looking for something else at the time, a regular novel, as I had never actually picked up a manga before. The cover image stuck in my brain, I knew nothing about the series, had never heard of it. I returned to the store at a later date and picked up the volume, flipped through the pages and proceeded to flip my lid. It was mind blowing. I bought the entire series on my kindle the same day (the store only had a couple scattered volumes) and devoured the entire thing. That was my first experience with any manga. I am now (slowly) collecting the Berserk Deluxe Edition volumes, as the idea of that series has forever stuck with me since I saw the OG ‘97 anime back in the day at probably a way too young age. I have always been a reader, and now I have Chainsaw Man to thank for opening up an entire new fiction art-form to me. I am now patiently hunting down other series from my hazy childhood memories like Trigun and Helsing.

    40:10 THIS Kek I read lovecraft, pretty mid, and most good stories are kinda ignored by the public. But most of all Lovecraft "fear of the uknown" has a label PARANOIA! Which makes sense concidering a very religious, conservative and racist person, they just fear NOT being the one on TOP. To which one can see his works as COPING or trying to Show the "Evils" he fear. But people just Fetishist them! XD Heck, knowing Every time someone plays "Sucker for love" (a dating sim) his squeleton is rolling on his grave is pretty AMUSING for me. On cultural apropiation. Lets see, polish guy with a "deform chibi" avatar of a Venezuelan anime inspired Light novel. ;) Thing is this, culture CANT be stolen, is knowledge, it can be copied And/Or supress. Coping is the highest mark of flattery. So, as long as youare honest to what you copy isnt originally "yours" but something you Choose to learn is fine, that IS how culture works, more SO with present internet So when "cultural apropiation" is come up most of the time is wrongly adress as just the copy. HOWEVER exist cases where is correct, when something IS copies but also DENIED to be So, the origibal Culture is Erased and supress. This seem mostly to be an Anglo-Saxon atribute, as they try to copy roman/Latin but keep just failing and be worst than a bootleg, but also DENIED this copy attempts saying its "their own", and then when you search more in deatil into tales and legends most are copies of other or LITERALL PROPAGANDA, And not natural one, But originated from ADDS. Great video, Love your coverage of the many fictional pieces and the brain worms that come with it. Much of what I've seen in this video does catch my intrigue philosophically and match some personal experiances as a hypochondriac (although I've never been attacked by tentacles or non eculdian geometry) I guess this video really resonated with me personally so I wanted to share the closest thing I had to a lovecraftian nightmare. I've always had dreams about being attacked by monsters, trapped in terrifying places or been on the receiving end of violent acts but I would never say any of these were "nightmares". The version of me in a dream has always had a habit of being most if not close to emotionless and non reactive to the events of the dream no matter how they play out. That was different on a night 3-4 years back I still recall mostly clearly. I had been stuck inside a house and for whatever reason I was made aware of an impending monster that i'd just call "that thing" would be arriving. The only thing I knew about "that thing" was that if I ever caught a glimpse at It, I would be dead. Very quickly into the dream, that thing would arrive outside the house and would knock and enter; the entire time I would be moving through the house trying to hide from it working solely off sounds and brief catches of its shadow. that thing made a sound almost like metal being vibrated at a almost impossibly loud volume and whenever it was close by, I felt myself going deaf. the dream crescendo'd when I found myself trapped in a corner of my kitchen staring at the wall while that thing stood behind me casting its shadow over me. I was too afraid to turn around and stood there for what felt like a eternity before I felt the figure touch my shoulder and the sound of it blaring in my skull before waking up. I've never had a dream that put such a visceral terror of something I don't understand nor want to understand so upfront and personal in my life and that experience has stuck with me. I can handle dreams where I get mauled by bears and other wild animals, I can even handle dreams where a serial killer or ghost hunts me down. But I don't think I'll ever be able to handle a dream like that thing ever again. (I do also understand the irony of giving a anecdote of a dream as a comment over a video that includes a fake anecdote of a dream as its opening paragraph)

    36:42 we already do. The predecessor (Descartes) to the uniter of god with nature (Spinoza)-much to the annoyance of the self proclaimed inheritor of Freddy (Heidegger)- claimed that scientific understanding’s goal is gaining technological mastery over all creation. Though he did not see jt as killing god, more like taking our place at the hierarchy god decreed, as wards and masters over creation by gods command. Making humans not followers of natural law but its masters

    • @LastMinuteEssays
      @LastMinuteEssays 5 днів тому

      Sure, but all the technological progress is made within the ruleset of reality that hasn't changed at all, only our understanding of it did. We still have some way to go when it comes to disregarding these laws completely.

      @@LastMinuteEssays if its even possible to change them, they were never truly rules of nature. It might be possible that there are no existing rules of nature. What separates social laws and conventions from natural ones is the lack of their eternal necessity in our world. If 2+2=4 is a sentence that is only true contingently on changeable facts and circumstances, then it is a conventional law. if its an eternal immutable necessary truth, its a law of the nature expressing the necessity of its own being. Descartes’s gaining of mastery through understanding and utilizing nature to our own ends is the closest thing humans can have to “legistlating reality”

    Your romanticized dream was a lot more beautiful than me just getting hit with terrible existential dread after pondering the futility of humanity for a bit too long as a kid. Knowledge is indeed a curse, I wouldn't wish sapience on any living being. We spend our lives distracting ourselves from the fact nothing we do will truly matter until we return to the void. There's no point to absolutely any of this, simpler people use various religions to justify their actions and existence but once you gain this realization it's over for you.

    YOur post lovecraft analysis kind of put into perspective why i have taken such a liking to Wushia and Xianxia in more recent years. There is just such a gap of knowledge between my western conceptions of chinese myth and the actual interpretations of it, that a lot of the well made series fill me with an immense sense of knowing that the answer and symbolism is out there, but I am just not built to understand it. Sure i could learn a lot about chinese myths and traditions (currently reading the Story of the Stone, because of limbus company lol) but i quite like this feeling of not knowing all of the cultural references and intricacies

      For real, every time I watch something Wushia/Xianxia I'm like "bro what the fuck does that even mean" and "it's so beautiful I might cry even If I don't understand it", both at the same time. And for some reason, I feel like if I knew all the intricacies, which my central European ass will never do, it might strip the experience of some of the magic of exploring this unknown, wonderful world. Watching these feels like reading Narnia books when I was 8 lmao

    Should really read T.S Eliot at some point so I can have a more proper judgement of the mouvement, but I do think it is Joyce's oeuvre with Ulysses and Finnegans Wake especially that marked the very limit of modernism, breaking its and making waves for postmodernism. I remember Alan Moore putting Lovecraft in with the rest of the modernist in an interview, which is ironic considering the fact that he hated almost all of them and much prefer the 18th and 19th century writers.

Oh course there are some dense section and references that only Joyce know about, but it is such a technical marvel. I do recommend reading it in a group , having a guide and reading it out loud. Finnegans Wake is a different beast tho. I will try to tackle it next year so probably the only book for the year

    "Well I can comprehend the horrors just fine, so maybe Lovecraft had skill issue or smth" -local Absurdist Kinda appreciative of the symbol of "xenophobic conservative horror" gets both diluted into freaky octopus faces but then later reclaimed into legitimate outsider/queer themes, up to either saying the unknown is only a power system or like Signalis, any big picture knowledge DOESN'T matter in the face of the only present that matters, love. Actually lots of intersection of horror themes and Queer art (shout out to Amelie Doree covering all the Queer Ero-Guro VNs) just what is initially treated horrorific as marginalized and later given sympathy and reclaimed by outsiders is perhaps more content-ment than anything irony poisoned as distance. Regardless, in instead portraying humans themselves both equally incomprehensible as well as exploitative of the unknown perhaps the only thing on the other side to know is your own motives and if you love yourself enough to not fear your reflections past societal norms

    Garbage video, it doesn't actually talk about any grand and awful knowledge. I would say pathetic, but it's merely standard. 3:42 Oh yea, humanity "learned" what morality is? Bullshit. Next to nobody knows any basics about morality, it's pure superficial or even abstract knowledge about morality that people "know", lost in the sauce because nobody understands where it starts and where it ends. It's even less true for religious people, since they tend to have a combination of narcissism, anosognosia, and angel complex that completely and irreversibly destroys their ability to process morality, or even information, since they naturally manipulate it as a tool for selfish benefit. That combination leads to ID supremacy and pure abandonment because they will disagree with every friend they try to gain, and each fake friend they gain will be extremely meaningless and will potentially solidify a habit of never agreeing, coexisting, or cooperating properly.
