Going to the office, not back to the office. Had telework, then Covid came and we couldn’t go back then we were supposed toto go back once a quarter. Pre Covid my mom could drive. Now she’s legally blind, insists on living alone. Twice when she’s had an emergency she won’t call 911, she waits for me to get there. Working remote, I’m closer to her. My main concern is being further from her. Our agency has Microsoft office which tracks all we do. Plus Amazon for phones. Our agency has the stats that we do work but now, traffic will increase a lot when we go to FT in the office. It’s going to be interesting. Also because of my mom, I avoid most crowds. When I pick up her groceries I don’t go into the store unless I have to. The time not commuting gave me more time to see her after work and check in on her. Ready or not, here I go.
Termination of probationary employees runs tantamount to the hundreds of Keystone Pipeline employees by the Demented Biden Admenstruation who in callous manner told them to get an Uber job or go to McDonald’s….that did not get much coverage by the Soros influenced news media.
I am a retired VA R.N. and the position I was hired for was onsite clinic primary care case management. Throughout my 21 year VA career not only was I detailed to provide telework coverage when there were nurse staffing shortages in the patient call center, I was detailed for 3 months to provide R.N. coverage at another VA clinic that was 20 miles further from my home than the VA clinic I was hired to work at. I sought counsel from the R.N. union rep regarding the latter detail, and there was nothing that could be done because this was a primary care management decision and me being at the time the low nurse on the seniority totem pole I had no choice but to accept this detail or be terminated. Additionally, over the years I have witnessed coworkers from many departments have their positions eliminated, and if they wanted to remain employed by the VA and they were qualified to do so, they had to transition into another available position which may be entirely different from the position they were initially hired for. This is a drawback working for the Federal Government, and those who are not willing to accept these types of changes which indeed are inconvenient, they are better off working in private sector jobs that have stronger union representation.

There is truly no valid reason for RTO. Productivity remained the same and, in some cases, improved with telework. People had better work/life balance, got more rest and had less stress, they spent less on gas, their cars last longer with less mileage and were eating healthier. People were saving $200+ on spending. This is being done out of spite. Jobs evolve, and unless there is a justifiable reason why you need to be at the office ( for example: doctors, floor nurses, cops, firefighters, janitors, manufacturers, cooks, etc), then you should be able to work from home.
Respectfully I agree with most all of your comments/rationale. My question is why are meetings disrupted with kids, animals, and people not responding. Not all by any means. Just a straightforward question is… are you ok to be monitored via keyboard and camera? Or willing to have metrics? Just curious and like I said, I am not disagreeing with your reasoning.
@@drz400sy8 most meetings are completely unnecessary and serve only the performance of work. Every time Ive met, it's been in person and it's almost always quarterly. We don't meet over pointless bs, it's a waste of time, energy and resources. The metrics are the best way of proving we're working. My job is effectively a factory job, manufacturing data projects. I have a quota I'm expected to reach. Coming into the office there's no way any of us are hitting that quota any more. It's way less productive

We are suppose to be RTO already. I am going to the office though my agency hasnt affirmed a plan to RTO
Why? It may be illegal for you to do that. If you are remote you should wait for your SF50. Your work location effects your pay and taxes.
My telework location is in the country and the office is in a big city so I think by going to office I am not getting paid for the more expensive city. But executive orders was everyone return to office starting last Friday. And crickets on that from my agency.

They are cancelling building leases so that just shows how vested they are in RTO.
I agree with you on telework for those not under CBA and those not hired specifically under full-time remote positions. I am very curious how the courts rule on these two areas and what effects it will have for future positions and unions in the civil service.
Is it even legal? Congress hasn’t authorized funds to pay for them. So, people will be resigning and getting nothing.

I don't know if everyone realizes that there will be an agreement that needs to be signed and in the agreement, it clearly states that an employee will forever waive their administrative and judicial employment rights. I'm not an attorney but this sounds like if they don't follow through, the employee has no rights. Also, if an employee is also retiring and something goes wrong with that, it sounds like the employee may potentially have no employment rights for that as well.
It’s a crappy experience. Had my pension and healthcare pulled. Turns out owning my own retirement turned out a plus. Then, there’s the ACA…

They can't unilaterally say that. If collective bargaining in not enforceable, then neither is anything that has to do with the deferred retirement program, RIF, furlough, and everything else on the planet.
The administration isn’t an owner of a company. It’s more of a steward. Therefore it can’t rip up contracts simply because there’s a change in management.

They are getting localaty pay and are not coming into the office. Cut the extra pay out and they'd be running back to the office.
They still live in the area, so why should they not get locality pay? All most employees are doing is following the contract. Why take a cut in pay for following the rules?

Fed employees get locality pay based on where they live, not where their office is. If somebody living in montana is working a remote job they were hired for that is centered in Washington D.C., they are not getting DC locality pay. You are absolutely 1,000,000% wrong on this one
This is not entire legit - first, anyone in HR or a business unit (EL/LR,201, 203 - most if not all 303 series, etc) are not in a bargaining unit. You would think with all these smart people putting out content or in the media would know that.

They way it’s worked out in my industry is, there’s an audit and everyone comes in, pretty much, assignments confirmed, and most people are allowed work from home again… Employee buyouts are a matter of timing in your career.
