Nice assortment of tools. Great information. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you. This year's been tricky for making videos, but I'll try to do the next one as soon as I can.
whuere did you get that product?
I bought it in UK, but you should be able to find it online.
Hi. Mam how can I reach you? Regarding upholstery
You can ask a question here.
@crofthouse489 I want to learn upholstery. But which place are you in UK
That was excellent! I have a Victorian nursing chair. It's lovely but tattered. Can you tell me the essential beginners "kit" that's required for learning upholstery and do you recommend any suppliers? I am in Canada. Thanks again.
Thanks for your comment. Perhaps I need to do a video on basic kit. The correct tools are essential and for basics, a very good electric staple gun, if you don't have a compressor, a web stretcher, magnetic hammer for tacks, a regulator (the long flat headed needle) and some strong curved needles, Upholstery tack and staple lifters are also very useful. You'll need to make sure the materials you buy are fire retardant, then you'll need webbing (I generally use strong hessian webbing), upholstery twine, hessian fabric, and scrim hessian. Tacks and /or staples. Depending then on what you're upholstering, you'll need wadding such as linta felt, black felt, foam, or hair/hair substitute. You will need fire retardant cambric if your top cover isn't fire retardant. You should, especially if your piece is for someone else, use labels that state the components are fire retardant. Again, materials really depend on the job in hand and fire retardant compliance on where you live. You can find the answers online. Regarding suppliers, I'm in the UK, but periodically search online for suppliers and their prices. However, for small quantities, Amazon can be a good place to start, and their prices are competitive. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for your informative videos!
You're welcome, I enjoy making the videos as much as I get pleasure from doing upholstery. Thanks for your comment.
Excellent information!
Thank you. I always find it fascinating to go back to traditional basics.
That was very interesting. I just found your channel. I am going to make a lined drapery panel and have been learning how to go about it and found your channel.
Thank you for your comment. Have fun making the panel.
Interesting. Never heard the term back tack. Curve eve. Ply grip. Are the terms I’ve always known. But learn something everyday. That type of back tack comes in different thicknesses. Mainly used on areas where there’s a curve. Not to be confused with the standard straight tac strips. Years ago they just either used decorative tacks or hand stitched the curves. Enjoyed this video. Very informative.
That's interesting. Maybe we trained in different countries at different times, and that's the reason for the different terms, or after nearly 40 years, I've developed my own. The end result is the most important, and sometimes we find new ways of getting there.
Thank you!
Thanks for your comment. Good luck with your reupholstery.
@@crofthouse489 thanks!
I'll have to try marking my cuts with a regulator. I have never thought of doing that; I usually use chalk. A regulator would probably allow me to get closer with my cuts.
Yes, and you can get in nooks and crannies that would be difficult with chalk. Good luck, and thanks for your comment.
Absolutely superb great tips you have shown . From time to time I do a little bit of furniture projects.. Thank you for sharing looks lovely👒Australia 🌹
Thank you, I'm happy you found it useful. Unfortunately, time to time is all I'm able to do lately, but I hope that will change soon so I can show more.
Thanks for that little tip I was just debating wether you could use sawdust I'm doing floorboards that has woodworm, I think, so I treated them with woodworm treatment 1st, and now I will try fill them with this It could be borers, or it's moisture under the floor So I'm thinking of trying to ventilate under the house maybe I'm not sure but thanks again for the tip
Thanks for your comment. I'd definitely try to find out what the cause is and try to fix that, or you might have more problems going forward. I've not tried the wood filler on floor boards, so I don't know how it would work if it gets heavy traffic on it, but it does give a hard finish on chairs. Good luck, and hopefully, you can find the cause.
Your technique for cut out corners worked! It wasn't hard at all and turned out clean and neat. Thank you
Excellent. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
I'm going to try your technique on all four courners of my chair seat. Please keep the camera still so we can see close up what you are doing. thanks
I'll try. It's not always easy as a one man band with only 2 hands.
I should have watched this before I cut these curtains.. For never having cut curtains before and just trying your video makes sense.
Well done making your own curtains! It's a good feeling to see our own work. Wishing you success with your projects!
@@crofthouse489 hi, it's not making my own just altering some for someone else. I definitely don't have the space to make full curtains 😅
Quit yapping and get on with it lady!
That's not my teaching style. Turn the sound off.
Not really very helpful. Would be better if you added graphics with actual measurements and calculations, actual numbers. Otherwise it's a bit vague. But please don't be discouraged. It's a great video idea and much needed. Just refine it a bit and add those numbers for people like me. 😊
OK, that's a good idea for a more technical video. I'll get on to it.
Thanks for this great video - now have two recovered chairs
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing that.
Genius tip sewing the marked ends and forming a tube from which to cut the piping. Total time saver 🤗 Many thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for your comment.
Great instruction, at last I can make my cuts with confidence! Thanks
Wonderful! Thank you for your comment. Enjoy upholstering. 😉
What thread do you use to stitch the back fabric to the chair please?
I use a fine gauge upholstery twine, but if you look up extra strong upholstery thread, you could use this as well. Gutermanns do it in different colours. Thread can wear thin as you pull it through heavy fabric layers and can snap, but you'll work out how long a length of thread you can use as you go.
@crofthouse489 oh thanks for being back to me. So maybe a No 2 barbours twine would be suitable I guess?
How do i remove glued on braid?
You should be able to just pull it off. I would then try to scrape any loose glue residue off gently with something blunt, then replace the braid with new if you're not re-upholstering the whole chair. I always use uhu glue.
An excellent tutorial thank you so much 😊
You're very welcome. I'm happy if I can help.
What a fab tutorial. Thank you for all this information.
You're very welcome. Helping others is the only reason I make the tutorials and lovely comments like yours keep me working. Thank you.

You're very welcome. Thank you for watching 😊

Thanks.
Excellent video, just the advice that I need, thank you. What is the name of the stitch you used to fix the inside back onto the back of the chair please?
Thank you. Helping others upholster is the reason I make the videos. The stich you asked about is blind lock stitch.
@@crofthouse489 it’s certainly very helpful! Thank you.
Thank you SO much for this. I’ve just finished curtain no. 1 (of 6) and I’m really pleased with the end result. As a relatively new sewer - it’s my new retirement hobby - I wouldn’t have had the confidence to try a project like this without help. I found your video, watched it through twice & thought ok - give I’ll it a go. With the help of multiple re winds, after a total of eight hours: TA-DAAAA! 😂❤❤
Well done! I'm so glad I could help you. It's a joy to preserve treasures from the past, and if you're new to sewing and can achieve this, the world's your oyster. Good luck with your hobby.
Just an update: all six curtains now completed and re hung and, even though I say it myself - looking pretty spiffy! Thanks again.
Проще придавить сиденье чем-то тяжелым, чтоб поролон сжался - тогда не нужно ничего разглаживать и натягивать. Без усилий выкладываем и прибиваем ткань, а когда снимем груз - все натянется и будет ровно 😊.
Thanks for sharing your technique. Unfortunately, this modern chair only has hardboard, so it can't be pushed down.

Thank you! Thumbnails are so small, I'm never sure what to put to be clear.
I'm not a youtuber so I can't give you specifics. I find what catches my eye are clear images of the project and text off to the side/above with a uncluttered background. I'm sure there's a perfect tutorial around here somewhere.@@crofthouse489
This isn't a piano stool. This is a piano bench. Super easy. I need another video that shows a stool.
Hi Roxanne. There are a variety of piano stools and benches. Which type are you looking to reupholster? Can you post a photo here.? If I can find a similar one, I can add a video.
Very informative instructions and very helpful as I took off the cover of an identical chair and wasn't quite sure how to recover it! Thank you.
Thank you. Helping people work out how to upholster is why I make the videos. I couldn't find anything on modern reupholstery, which is why I hoped this would help.
Great video! Very well done.
Thank you!
2 tbs saw dust 4 tbs water squeze water through wet linen 1.5 tbs of wood glue Thank you.

Excellent @harrieth! I'm glad I could help.
Great vid thats solved my corner problem. I was a bit worried at the start i thought you were going to put frogs in the pot! have anice June.
Haha! No frogs nearby. Glad to have helped.
How do you put the inset back in the metal chair?
Hi Melissa. Once the back is attached to the front with the metal back tack strips, the front is screwed back in place, through the holes on the back of the metal frame, using the original screw holes in the wood. This is why it's important to cut fabric around them and put holes through the fabric with a regulator, if you have one, whilst constructing the front of the chair. The 4 screws are visible on the back of the frame. Hope this makes sense.
Fantastic video, needed a refresher on some stitches for my students. Thank you
Glad to be of help and to hear there are still students of upholstery.
What kind of wadding did you use please?
Hi Beverly. The wadding I use is white cotton felt, otherwise known as lintafelt. I use 4oz on armchairs to give more body for the finished effect.
