Kit Check - Mounted Samurai - Fireforge
First thing - yes I know I put the swords on upside down. There's almost no changing it, cutting them off to reposition them will ruin the parts. Oh well.
Second thing - this kit is awesome, great poses and some spare torsos so you can make more dismounted figures with the spare parts from those!

Kit Check - Ashigaru Warriors - Fireforge

Another in the series covering this 28mm offering from Fireforge. This time, the Ashigaru. I like them less than the Samurai miniatures, although not due to a lack of quality. The missile weapon versions have the same base bodies.

More 28mm plastic Samurai from Fireforge. I've assembled four as archers just to see and they're as nice as the Warrior box, with the ability to mix and match parts due to having the same basic bodies sprue.

28mm plastic miniatures from Fireforge. In this video I'll be exclusively looking at the Samurai Warriors, with sprues from the other box sets to be showcased later on.

28mm plastic figures put together some time ago now and painted progressively, most of them a year or two back, with a recent burst of enthusiasm to finish of a couple more here and there.

The latest plastic Napoleonic offering in 28mm. I received these upon release, but haven't had time until now to get to grips with them. What fine figures they are, another success for the Perry brothers - particularly as the heads all face out of the sprues!

One of the final instalments showing off my collection, this time the Austrian infantry, both German and Hungarian, line and light troops. As always, these are all 18mm AB Miniatures. Painted some time ago and it shows, I didn't waste a huge amount of time putting additional highlights etc. on and my skill level wasn't what it might be now. That said, something to be learnt from past me, as I s...

First of the 1809 Austrians in the form of Chevaulegers, Dragoons, Hussars and Cuirassiers. They could of course be used for other campaigns from the period as well. Nice workmanlike blocks of cavalry, all AB miniatures as before. Again I've gone for the less hell for leather charging poses (except for the Hussars).
6mm WW2 Eastern Front - Soviet Tanks
Переглядів 620Рік тому
Much delayed as ever, the next instalment of my 6mm WW2 collection in the shape of all the different Soviet tanks in my collection, mostly T-34s of various types and T-70s but with some armoured friends of other sorts too. Next up the infantry and guns. This video will likely also get buried by the algorithm for being something to do with Russia.

A mixture of French Chasseurs, Hussars and Cuirassiers. A dash of Guard Chasseurs a Cheval, Hessian Chevaulegers and Baden Light Dragoons. The 1809 Franco-Allied cavalry contingent ready to sweep across the Danube.

Not my first foray into Napoleonics (that was 6mm) but a close second and a neck and neck rival for my favourite scale and sculpts for this period. 1:54 - Artillery 3:00 - Ligne in Dress Uniform 3:28 - Legere 4:25 - Ligne in Greatcoats

The first contingent for another 6mm project this year, my attempt to build up forces to refight (part of) the first day at Gettysburg. Yes I know lots of people have done something similar but A. that's where I got my inspiration from and B. I haven't. I’m almost complete with the entire army of northern Virgina in 6mm
Thoughtful review, thanks. But I find they are not able to actually use katanas, without a deal of fiddling. Again, not a deal breaker, but I do think Fireforge could have easily packed a few extra pieces in. Also, ideally, would like to see a box of unarmoured Ashigaru - and farmers etc with bamboo stick spears!
Wow love it
Those trousers are called "chausses" they are single legs that are worn over the brayes. Braysare over sized boxer linen shorts with no fly. Chausses are attached to a cloth belt worn high on the waist nearly under the ribs called a lendel. Some times Chausses attached directly to the Gambeson. Particularly if you are expecting to ride a lot.
Hello, I am very impressed by the quality of your miniatures, especially regarding the painting. I know that for the 6 mm the important thing is the contrast and I find it very successful! As I am a beginner I would be very honored if you could give me advice, especially in the choice of colors to use. Thanking you in advance.
Very kind of you and welcome to the hobby! My main advice when choosing colours is probably to pick shades that are brighter than they are in real life in order to help them stand out on such small models. Also to begin with, don't try and paint too much detail or worry about extra highlights until you start to get a feel for painting at that scale - this will also depend on the manufacturer as you will need to get used to how they have sculpted the miniatures. Have fun!
@@thelastbattalion3509 Thank you for your quick response. Would you be kind enough to give me some advice on paint references? I've looked around the web and found a few lists but I find the colors of your figurines really effective and accurate. I admit that it would make it much easier for me to get started. Best regards
Nico Village
@@ShelleyDuncan-p6e thank you.
Great looking unit's, they are stunning. Which blue did you use on the Milan Guard Battalion?
Oof, good question it's been a while. I think i layered up a few at a time. Pretty sure VMC Sky Blue ended up being the main tone, mixed into a darker shade and then also with white for highlighting. Sorry I can't remember more.
@@thelastbattalion3509 Thanks anyways. It keeps me going. So I will paint the unit this week.
@@pieterschouten8879 enjoy painting them, I did.
*My favorite tank from WW2! Gorgeous models.*
@@NandiCollector I enjoy a good Pz IV also.
What model was used for Colonel Rossi?
The exclusive colonel figure you get if you buy three boxes together as a deal from Perry.
Lovely
Thank you.
Very nice
@@provjaro Thank you.
Really nice
@@provjaro Thank you!
I got a box of these but I cant get the spear arms to line up at the wrist properly
Yes that can happen, I found I had to trim a little off the torso and/or the arm to change the angle to help them fit together.
Can you recommend any good rule sets that these figures can be used for?
Wait Perry Miniatures doesn't have an Italian section so where did you get the Generals?
They're French equivalents painted as Italians.
@@thelastbattalion3509 Ok good to know thanks
They look stunning man
Thank you very much.
I guess the issue I would have with the figs is that I would want something like 6 studded helmets to make them look more uniform for rank and file samurai, with a leader type with a different helmet. I also wish they had bows as a option.
Yes you might be a little bit limited by that factor. They do have bows as an option - see the 'Samurai Shooters' box instead.
Those look great!
Thank you very much.
which box is thiss
Check the title of the video.
How do these compare in size to GW? I would love to use these parts for some kitbashes.
I couldn't answer that with any degree of accuracy I'm afraid.
Thanks for this follow up video, which is very helpful. Can I ask, which adhesive do you recommend for building these miniatures?
I used Revell Contacta plastic glue, which I use for all sorts of plastic miniatures.
Very helpful review, thanks.
Glad you liked it.
Looks great, what rules are you using and base sizes? Cheers
No particular rule set, perhaps Blitzkrieg Commander but more likely GMT's Panzer!
@@thelastbattalion3509 so I could use crossfire for this basing?
Where did you get your grass from
A mixture of places I think the most recent addition was summer and winter grass mixtures from 4Ground - if I’m remembering that right, but they’re not in business any more.
lord falconburg?! That’s an actual name?!
Fauconberg, yes it is. A member of the Neville family.
A fine review, many thanks!
Glad you liked it.
Great looking miniatures and game. Thank you and ask for more.
Thank you.
About to do my first flags tomorrow!
Good luck, hope it goes well and you enjoy it.
Are they on 20mm bases?
25mm
Thanks for the review. Thinking of building a few for Shadow War Armageddon so this was helpful.
Awesome, glad it was useful.
Great videos on all of these fire forge kits. Thanks
You’re very welcome.
Looking good. Unfortunately Adler will be out of buisness, but I can recommend Turners 6mm ACW, they are really good.
Thanks, yes I've seen those around the place they do look nice. Fortunately I have a good stock of Adler figures to work through for some years to come yet!
They look sharp to me. I only regret that I now feel obligated to work on mine. 🥲
Magnifique travail, a big good job, Bellissima !
Thank you very much!
I think the longer weapons may be designed to represent Nagae yari, which are closer to pikes. Rather than drill out the hands, and replace them wholesale, I cut the shaft just in front of the left hand then drilled and pinned the shortened head of the spear back on to shorten the length to 45mm from the 80mm supplied.
In the end I very carefully clipped the spear tip off, shortened the haft and then made sure both pieces were levelled. Superglue did the rest.
Unfortunately, the same mistake as before, the katana with the blade up and not down. It's not a saber ;)
I know, see the description.
@@thelastbattalion3509 Well, shit happens. Did you glue it so tightly? Maybe approach it gently with a knife?
@@thelastbattalion3509 Also (sorry) your archer would have a lot of difficulty drawing an arrow from the quiver...
There are mistakes in the armor, Hara Asigaru only had three Kusazuri plates not five. This is one of the most important mistakes that can be seen there for someone who knows something more. What's also important is that they weren't carrying a katana like you taped on their backs. I know, they're just figures. I glue swords to the side of my asigaru. Do as you want.
I’m sure they’re not perfect in their design but they work for me. I think I remember reading or listening to something that said as the Ashigaru professionalised over time, what amounted to an arming sword became more common.
@@thelastbattalion3509 I’m sure they’re not perfect in their design but they work for me. I think I remember reading or listening to something that said as the Ashigaru professionalised over time, what amounted to an arming sword became more common.
Buddy, a katana is not a saber. Push with the blade down. You stuck the swords on them wrong. Always keep the sword on your armor with the blade down.
Chap, I know, I forgot about it. Presumably you mean blade up.
Good work! I'll add that I've recently tried the horses from this box with TEST OF HONOUR - TAKEDA'S COURT - for characters in the metal set and Samurai horses from Fireforge work well. Some work with the saddle which has to be cut a bit and some issues with mounting the metal models from ToH, but overall both sets work fine side by side which is great news if for example you want a mounted Daimyo foor the Fireforge based Samurai army. Take care!
Useful knowledge!
Obviously a great kit, impressive close ups!
Thank you, I hope those kinds of shots help people get a better sense of the figures.
Nice kit, excellent review
Thank you.
I love the Perry Minis! REally Awesome, easy to Build and very Affordable.
I’d agree with all of those points!
Looks nice! I wish there was a fully unarmored kit of plastic multipart samurai, suitable to recreate Yojimbo or Seven Samurai style battles (I'm aware metals exist, I want plastic multipose).
That's a good idea, I think a good number of people would be interested in that.
Hope we see these painted up
I really want to carve out the time to paint a few.
I'm impressed that Fireforge don't have bases included on the bottom of the feet of the figures, that'll make basing them easier without having them standing on a base on a base which has always annoyed me.
I agree, I'm a fan of them not being mounted on a little plinth/base. It means that you can settle them in to your preferred basing setup easier and without having to conceal the extra few millimetres of height.
Such a wonderful kit
It’s pretty good.
Thanks! I don't have this kit (yet!), so it is greatly appreciated. Makes me wonder if I can find suitable torsos somewhere because there are so many spare arms, legs and heads, but that is a minor issue and the entire kit looks splendid and its cost is low enough for many games. Take care!
In the Mounted Samurai kit there are six torsos to make only three figures, so the sisters can be used with the other kits.
I plan on reducing my spears to a standard Yari size for skirmish gaming because there will be a lot of entering buildings and such. But for rank and file games I think they are great .
I’m tempted to do the same I’m just worried I will end up with wonky spears when I cut them down.
Where did u get those bases..?? They're STUNNING..
