Solo Day Hike Cucamonga Peak via Ice House Canyon
A Solo Day Hike to Cucamonga Peak via Ice House Canyon
Trip date: December 24, 2024
Location: Angeles National Forest, CA
Miles: 12.12 round-trip
Elevation: 4,219 ft.
It was my last big hike of 2024, and I wanted to reach Cucamonga Peak (8,862’) before the snow arrived. On the morning of Christmas Eve, I set out around 8 AM to hike 12-miles round-trip.
I’ve hiked this peak quite a few times before, but it had been awhile since my last time in Ice House Canyon. Prepared with rain gear, I was happy to have not bailed on my adventure with a 60% chance of rain.
Enjoyed some empanadas for lunch at the peak before making my way back down! I was quickly reminded why I don’t hike this trail often, my knees can’t handle the downhill. Any tips for strengthening my knees would be greatly appreciated!! 🙏

Such a beautiful hike! It was awesome running into you on trail Vanessa! I went back yesterday and there was so much snow, I finally got to snowshoe. Let’s go back sometime and do Ontario next!
👍 for just the nature sounds instead of music. Less is more.
Strong Work!! Watching your video as I miss Yosemite, thanks for sharing!
appreciate the feedback :) thanks for watching!
I’m inspired
I love that. Happy trails!
Hi, Vanessa Kodos. Nice solo hike! I highly recommend ginger shots for your overall health.
thank you! I've heard great things about ginger, just really not a fan lol!
This is the best video I have seen yet of the Colorado Trail! Well done and thanks for sharing. I kind of like this peculiar way of video-recording a hike!👊
thank you! this was my first time trying out this style of editing, I think it's my favorite too! :)
Love it!
Very beautiful views. Thanks for sharing. 👍10
It was a beautiful day. Thanks for watching!
Great!
Absolutely gorgeous scenery! This looks and feels amazing my friend!
Couldn't have asked for a better day, always a good one above the clouds!
I've noticed some knee (and back) relief by using trail runners with Dr-Scholls insoles instead of boots. I also consciously slow my pace downhill knowing how easy it can be to cruise with the gravity. I hope that is helpful.
Additionally, I use my trekking poles religiously on descents.
thank you! I twisted my ankle last summer and need the ankle support, otherwise trail runners are my go-to! Trekking poles really help too, I need to use them more often. I appreciate the feedback :)
Another fun day-in-the-hike video. Thank you for sharing. Hoping for you to have a great 2025!
Has a little rough start to the beginning of the year, but nothing a little hiking can't fix :)
@@forevershewanders try to stay positive. never waste time on the negatives.
Sleeping quilts name?
This is the Enigma from Enlightened Equipment 😊
@ ty
I think the big Agnes lost dog bags are perfect for ground sleeping. Huge pad sleeve keeps you on your pad all night. Less insulation underneath and wider bag basically make it so you can spin like a tornado all night and no drafts. More companies need to look at this design. I camp in hammocks aswell and have quilts I just don’t love them for ground sleeping. It’s part of the beauty of exploring the back country is there’s so much room for personal expression
Until you go camping. In the single digits
So beautiful. Colorado is such a beautiful state❤❤❤
I hope you have a beautiful year! ❤
Yum!❤❤
Ingredients needed: Ground beef, dark red kidney beans, cabbage, tomatoes, cheese, Fritos, and lime. 😋
Very cool….looks like a great location for your first flight. Clear view…no power lines……big open area.
Thank you! It was exactly what I needed for my first time-that helicopter scared me though 😅
@ Wouldn’t be too worried….drones are allowed up to 400 feet and most aircraft have minimum heights as well…..well above 400 feet.
What did you pay for it
What did you pay for it
It was a gift :)
Nice…I got one earlier this year. I did crash into the top of a tree but no damage…..have fun and enjoy.
I heard crashing is normal! It's losing it I'm most afraid of lol
@ Haven’t lost one…..
Thanks for sharing great views and the life on the trail. Congrats for finishing.
Looks like a great way to spend a birthday! I love hiking solo too. Love your video!❤❤.
The lake looks so refreshing! Great video!❤❤

@@forevershewanders there is so much wrong here
@@georgechute2912 you really can't go wrong with a mid, base, and outer layer. Am I missing something?
@@forevershewandersif they say you’re wrong but can’t explain why, normally it’s more on them than you. I think as far as layers for backpacking there’s nothing really wrong with those as far as most occasions.
You inspire me so much! Happy birthday. I’m so late. Been watching you for a while and loved you from the first day I found you. You’re a cancer girly. Water signs unite. Hahah

Nice looking bags, looks like you’ve got the bases the covered for all your doodads and thingies 👍🏻😃😊 Gonna be a good time Ms Vanessa😊❤
Congratulations. I start my CT hike the end of next August with my hound mix Maggie. Thanks for sharing your experience. Take care
What time of year is this?
Hi :) I started in Yosemite the beginning of August and ended at Whitney Portal mid September
What is that on your backpack behind your neck? Is its some animal protection?
it's a bear canister :) required for overnight *backcountry* camping in Yosemite
how were you able to get around yosemite without a car? or did you stay down in curry village?
Looks like a beautiful spot to hang out for awhile😍 Dinner looked quite scrumptious too😋 Have a great time, keep safe, take care and see ya on the next one Ms Vanessa😊❤

Would love to get into this activity I’m sure there is some popular trails I have never ever tried
There is so much to see if you're willing to walk a little 😉
Mother Earth’s magnificent beauty at its finest 😍 Thank you so much for sharing with us out here Ms Vanessa ❤ Have fun and take care 😊❤
feels great to be back! my ankle was keeping me off trail for quite sometime
Amazing scenery 😮
It was such a nice surprise to see the colors changing already 😍
I would agree. Fall is my favorite time of year. Cooler temps and pretty leaves.
Love it all- except the shorter days! 😅
So beautiful 😍 have fun and take care, see ya next time Ms Vanessa 😊
Thank you! 😊
So proud of you. Daughter love you so much.
Love you, Dad!
Wow what a beautiful hiking stretch😍 Always amazes me just how clear the lakes are up at those elevations. So happy that you were able to get back up there and your ankles doing fine. Thank you so much for sharing another gorgeous adventure Ms Vanessa, take care, hike on and see ya on the next one 😊❤
It's finally fall in the Eastern Sierra and I am so excited for cooler weather :) Thanks for watching!
I so love the fact , no matter what you are going through , you can do it with a smile on your face. Wow! You are such an inspiration! I live in Denver. Next August, I will be hiking the Colorado trail for the first time . May I find the strength and courage to remember #smilesandmiles . Thank you.
