That’s awesome 😁 yeah same here, any beloved game having a remake is going to have its initial doubts whilst playing through the first time as we’re so caught up in what we know to be ‘correct’ in silent hill 2 that any changes feel wrong, but like you said the more I played it the more and more I loved it, I think it’s really captures something special and is up there with the original on some levels, but like you said we’re always probably going to prefer the original for certain factors if we have strong nostalgic ties to it. And yeah the abstract daddy was so intense ! I’m glad you don’t encounter more in the hotel like the original SH2 haha 😝 thanks for watching 🙏

That’s fine to feel that way about it, I myself was judging the remake hard before it came out I have videos on this channel taking the piss out of it, but now I’ve played it and watched it through a few times I feel they did a great job recapturing the feel and atmosphere and for the most part re recording the voices for the characters, I’m not a huge fan of Eddie and Maria but I think James and angela come across quite well, but I know the remake isn’t going to be for everyone, I’ll still be playing the original all the time, this for now though was quite a surprise to me

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch this, I hope you enjoyed the video, and yes it’s one of my all time favourites, and it’s funny you should mention MGS2 as that’s actually my second favourite MGS game next to MGS1, it’s incredible and I replay MGS1-4 every year at least once, when I went back and revisited the games again a few years back and started that cycle I was surprised how much I preferred MGS2 after all the other titles, I feel everyone goes for snake eater as the best and I remember playing them back to back and enjoying MGS2 a ton more, you’ve got good taste 👌😝😁

Thank you for such a in depth and well written comment 👍 and of course, I understand that many many people will be experiencing this remake as their very first time in the world of SH2 and thank god it turned out as amazing as it did as I think anyone playing the remake is getting just the same or better an experience than what it felt like playing it as a kid in 2001, and of course, with the voices people are definitely going to have their preferences, I think both games show their age In the performances for example like the original it was state of the art mo cap at the time but all they had was the dialogue really, and yeah I guess you could say people who played that first can see past certain things with the VA because it’s an important part of their childhood etc, but although their voices aren’t the most professional sounding the way they’ve always explained it is that they say that they feel they sound more like everyday people rather than actors, but in the same way with todays technology graphically and fidelity wise you can have so many minute details in a characters eyes, facial expressions, the way they hold themselves etc as well as great voice acting so it really shows how far we’ve come, I think all the voices in the remake sound fantastic I think it’s because of playing the original so many times over the years I have an already pre set expectation of exactly how I think they should sound and act so anything different makes me feel strange at first but after playing the game a couple times through I think everyone does an amazing job and the new voices all really suit them, I think James and Angela are my favourites I think they sounded incredibly lifelike and believable. Yeah I loved how SH2 turned out, for my full thoughts you can check out my review, but also I think that already MGS delta looks amazing with the original voice acting and the shot for shot recreation of the cutscenes but just making it more approachable gameplay wise for newcomers, I was actually a lot more skeptical of the SH2 remake but they proved me wrong haha

Music still hits better in original mostly Overall a surprise win though it's unfortunate they used that scum bag consultant

Yeah I mean even I have an undying love for the original I still play at least a couple times a year and everytime I love it just as much, that’s why I think I used scenes side by side cutscene wise to see how people think they compare, and for the most part I think some scenes are well acted and some aren’t like I say In the video, I don’t like the new Eddie, Maria/Mary’s prison scene is now all messed up etc, but like you say it’s turned out surprisingly well for the most part, I’m currently playing through it again

And yeah I think the soundtrack for most of the re recordings sound more expanded with new things happening, however certain tracks feel like a step back, I got the soundtrack with the deluxe edition but it’s not all the songs it’s only like 10 tracks, so I never heard Laura’s theme up until after the game was out and to me anyway it sounds like an amateur cover, the guitar tones used the drumming etc, it’s weird, but then other tracks like the new version of true blew me away

Yeah I mean I was very skeptical from the start but still hopeful, but after playing the game I’m fully ready to admit I was over judgemental and I’ve really loved playing this ! It’s awesome 🙌

Exactly my thoughts, I even speak about this later in the video and compare them side by side with name stamps over when the changes are supposed to happen etc, the game is amazing atmosphere wise and the newly expanded areas and puzzles are really cool and interesting I just find myself wondering around taking every little detail in, I’m sure you’ll love playing it when it arrives 👍 thank you for watching !

I’ve always known her to be a manifestation created by the town for James ? That’s why she resembles Mary so much but is more sexual as it’s almost like the spiritual power of the town is trying to use her as a replacement for James (from James mind) for the ways he may have wanted Mary to be more ? I’m sure they speak about it in the making of SH2 at some point, in the born from a wish game she says when I woke up I was all alone, so it’s almost like she didn’t exist in the town before James got there ? Or am I missing something ?

I think that when I used to watch The Real Silent Hill Experience by Twin Perfect a lot, in that they usually always back up what they say with either direct quotes from the specific parties involved or evidence in the games, they say in their SH2 & SH Hd collection videos that she is a reincarnation of Mary maybe I’ve just always thought that she is a (manifestation) created by the spirit power and have had it wrong this whole time ?

@ same here ! I still watch the real silent hill experience from beginning to end at least a couple times a year ! I wish they’d come back for a SH2 special :( but j guess it would just be Rosseter and Foodge (if that’s how it’s spelt) I know there was a big falling out with Fungo which is a shame I used to watch his twitch streams all the time and made friends with loads of his community, I used to chat with him all the time, and then he decided to take a break from streaming whilst he moved house and then he never came back :(

@@jb2einziger Sure, she is a manifestation born from James's mind by the town, but we also know (from Born From a Wish scenario) that she has her own feelings and intelligence and some form of agency at least initially. So she is not like some mindless puppet completely controlled by the powers that be in Silent Hill. She makes her own choices in the beginning, she is thinking of ending her life, she is looking for someone to talk to, she finds Ernest, talks to him, decides to help him, we see she is actually touched by his tragic story, she is curious about him, wants to know some stuff. So at the beginning of her journey, she actually acts like a normal human being, just lonely and lost and sad. So you see, she is not some sort of evil demon that she might seem by the end. I think the cruelty of her story is that she is made like a completely normal person by the town, but gradually becomes what she becomes in the end as the town takes control of her as a tool for James's (self-)punishment.

Yeah I agree with you they made a lot of the scenery and atmosphere very well, I think most voices in the game and character models look ok, I know a lot of people don’t like the new Angela even I complained about her a lot in my previous videos when she was revealed but after playing I think she sounds fine for the most part but the worst offenders I think are both the way Eddie looks and sounds, and Maria sounds like she can’t be bothered a lot of the time, it’s just very flat and stiff, but I hope you enjoyed the game apart from those things ? Ya they went too far with making Eddie really gross he was over weight but it was his eyes that revealed a lot They got some things great but what they did with others isn't as good

"troony self insert plump face, and the out-of-place drunk-raspy corny voice of hers" is vile, hateful critique. In the original, she was supposed to be a young woman, but she looked / sounded like an adult. In this game, they really make her look / sound like a young woman who has been through intense trauma. I cannot understate how phenomenal of a job they did modeling her and voice acting her in this remake. I cannot for the life of me figure out why people are so bothered. She looks like a real human being now.

Already been there!!! It was great. Something you may find interesting is in the remake there is a receipt you can find in the green pharmacy that shows a date, maybe 1982 or 1992, it's hard to read but helps pinpoint when this is

I’m currently playing the remake which I’m really enjoying actually, and luckily he doesn’t come across anything but just a general shmuck 😆 they haven’t made him some kind of action hero which is good, even the way he holds his weapons people have said they made the character model do it wrong on purpose to show how inexperienced he is with weapons which was quite a cool touch

@@jb2einziger I'm spending most of my time walking and looking around the game to try and find a fault lol I can't find a single one. I've just finished hospital and now running in the rain and dark. I still can't find a fault! Everything is perfect!

That’s great that it could help you like that 🙏 there’s certain games that are just there for us at the right time in our lives, I remember making this before the game came out as I was watching all the trailers non stop and just loved the look of the game I knew I’d love it when it came out and when I heard the save room theme I thought I’d make an extended version randomly, as that’s not normally what’s on my channel or the kind of videos I make, it really blew up, and I hear all sorts of amazing stories about how people find it calming or it helps them sleep or get over things, it’s amazing what music can do 🙌 thanks for sharing and for watching 🙏

Really ? Can you explain why though ? I’ve always heard it was Maria as she is a more seductive version of Mary/always flirting with and trying to tempt James, Angela is quite repulsed by men due to her trauma from her father/brothers abuse, which is why she killed them, I can’t see why she would be the seductress, as she doesn’t give that off at all ?

​@@jb2einziger btw, angela didn't kill her father and brother in self-defense. she murdered them violently with a knife. for the former, there is an in-game newspaper detailing the crime. think about it. why would she be punished in silent hill, with flames and the abstract daddy, if she were an innocent? does killing in Self-Defense merit being tormented by Silent Hill? you want an example of an innocent who can walk around silent hill without being bothered by monsters? Yeah I’ve actually made a few videos on this channel with my thoughts on some of the trailers etc, at first I was skeptical about certain aspects and certain things from the story trailer still worry me however the closer it gets and the more I see of it, I’m hearing a lot of positive things from lots of reviewers so fingers crossed it ends up being really great like some of the RE remakes etc 🤞 I’d quite like to see maybe SH1 & SH3 in a similar fashion if it does well, and yeah the MGS master collection style HD collection would of been good ! Luckily I still have all my original disc versions of the SH games too !

@@jb2einziger yeah I have been cautiously optimistic the last few months after side-eyeing the game for over a year before that. Still will like some stuff and think they failed on others (I don’t like that they made Eddie so gross, or the Maria prison scene lacking her switching personas, but I think they have done great with James and Laura from what they’ve shown so far)

@@sonicsean34 yeah I’ll definitely be playing it for sure either way, but yeah I actually discuss the whole voice acting aspect of Maria/marys prison scene and how the voices are the wrong way round etc it’s one of my biggest complaints in my last video on it and how important that scene is to make us empathise with James turmoil etc and so many people were just saying how I was “elitist” and overthinking it etc, but this game means a lot to so many people and has done for many years so it’s fair enough we have criticism’s of things that we think we’ll majorly impact the story etc, but here’s hoping it turns out great on most fronts still 👍

Yeah I mean I don’t even think it’s intentional as a throwback I think they’re either trying too hard and it comes across hammy or they’re just not understanding the emotional impact of certain scenes and underplaying it or trying to intentionally be as different to the original to make it their own take on it etc, but so much original work and thought went into the voice acting, if you watch the making of or guy cihi interviews by Dave Schaufflee he says they used to act out in front of all the creative team each scene during mo cap, 8 or 9 times until they’d perfected the scene, then they’d go in the booth and record it, they were so controlling over all those scenes and wanted them to turn out that way, in this new one it’s almost like they’re given a script and just free reign to do it however they want etc.

Obviously it won’t be an option anymore because of the disputes between guy cihi and Konami over re releases of SH2 did Xbox and PC without residuals but it would be awesome if they included an option to have original voices in the game just dubbed against the new character models and cutscenes like the MGS3 remake has done, I saw someone do a dub on here where they just set up the original voices against the new game and it fit really well

They just announced its completion, I usually just play it on my PS2 as I like the nostalgia and original feel to it being on the original hardware etc, and I also did make a couple videos after this on this channel reacting to more trailers and showcases for the remake if you’re interested, I’m still gonna give it a shot but like you say no matter how it turns out we always have the originals 👍

@@jb2einziger I have not, the enhanced edition's main appeal (besides the great bugfixes and ps2 effects restorations of course) is the option to have a bunch of features that go well beyond the original vision, 1080p widescreen patch? absolute nonsense, Silent Hill 2 was made with 480i 4:3 in mind, i am being blown away by the original game on PCSX2 as a 27 y.o playing the game for the first time in 2024 , i can't imagine what i must've been like in 2001 , but one thing i know for certain, the game we got in the end was the genuine full vision of the artists, it's not meant to have HD textures, its meant to have the film grain, its mean to be fuzzy and dizzy. I did have a PS2 when i was 12 in 2009 for many years but i never played SH2 , i tried the third game for like 20 minutes and it bored me back then because i was so into Resident Evil 4 that SH just felt too slow , these days i only have space for 1 single CRT display so since i prefer CRT over flat panel and i mostly use my PC, i chose it to be a PC VGA CRT Monitor which is no good for PS2 (i dont even have a PS2 anyomre anyways) so while you are 100% that the og PS2 game on a CRT TV is the genuine full experience, what im doing right now is a very close 2nd, the only issue is that my CRT Monitor is minimum 31kHz so therefore 480i only runs at 120hz not 60hz like the ps2, therefore i lost a bit of motion clarity (but it doesnt break the game at all, it kinda fits it well) and the sound quality is obviously better on the PS2 because of how its sound chip worked, other than that, my way with PCSX2 is vastly more genuine to the original than the PC Enhanced Edition. And yeah the Remake, by now i guess you're able to tell, im definitely not big on it...

@@juanme555 yeah I know what you mean, I did one playthrough of the enhanced edition years ago for this channel and I was impressed by certain aspects but like you say there’s something about seeing it how it was intended, via the original hardware and on a CRT or something similar, also I love RE4 it’s my favourite videogame of all time I’ve played it hundreds of times, I still also in a similar way love to play it on my GameCube still as I love the original look and the letterboxing makes it look more cinematic, but I still have it on nearly every console still haha 😝 and yeah the ps2 had a fantastic library I’m really lucky to still own all my physical copies of SH 1, 2, 3 & 4 from back in the day 👍 it must be amazing experiencing SH2 for the first time right now ! I hope my video hasn’t spoilt any plot details etc

Yeah exactly it completely gets rid of that mind game the original played so well, in the making of the team specifically say they wanted both voices to come out of Maria in that scene, it all sounds too one note from this trailer, however I hope it is better in other aspects, for example I think the game looks incredible and I’m sure there’s some great puzzles and set pieces or gameplay tweaks, I just hope the story isn’t impacted too much by certain decisions with the dialogue or delivery of the performances 👍

@@jb2einziger Yeah, it's saddening because I think that scene is one of the most mind-tripping and compelling scenes for the very reason that it fools the player (and james) into thinking "oh shit, she's actually Mary!" and doing it this way sort of loses that. At the same time, after watching it again and again I'm trying to be okay with the change. That its almost like Silent hill itself is talking to James, telling him that she can be whatever he wants, thus the sort of emotionless monotone in her voice. That's the only way I can reconcile it in my head.

@@LightsFuzzy yeah I see what you mean I think I saw another comment saying the same kind of thing, like because Maria is a creation by the town for James that it’s just speaking to him through her in a way etc, but I did get a lot of comments on this video saying I was being way too critical of the voice acting, but when you think about it the story of SH2 is what makes it a fan favourite of the series, it’s so important to still capture a realistic and believable performance from the small cast involved in order to keep you invested, even Masahiro Ito said when the HD collection came out with the new voices that he thinks the performances etc will completely disconnect the player from wanting to actually find Mary or sympathise with James in any way and that’s such an important point is to make us side with James until the end when we learn the truth, our only knowledge of Mary is through James’s memory, if this new voice actress just delivered all her lines very monotone and just like Maria, then we won’t feel that same connection that James did, it’s her responsibility to make us want to like James memory of Mary, but yeah other times in the trailer the voice acting for Mary sounds great so I’m sure hopefully fingers crossed it will still turn out well 🤞 thanks for watching !
