Fads, Fashions and Obsessions in the 90s
I watched The Never Ending Story over and over and was never bothered by the Artax death scene. Maybe I was just emotionally stronger than most kids at that time.
I love the 50's kitchens!! I love the old style of Formica and chrome. The *diner* dining set is SO me!! The aesthetic of it is just homey and kind of elegant at the same time. I'm going to be renting eventually, and I plan on getting some "removable wall paper" and magnetic dishwasher and refrigerator covers, so I can make my own 50's kitchen, and still be "renter friendly".
Let's grow together by watching each other's contet❤
Hey I love your videos 😊❤
Thank you!
I just remember WTBS being on 24 hours a day with old sci fi films, classic films, elvis films, jerry lewis movies.
Tv and Dvd is still the best way to watch something.
Love this ❤❤❤

Thanks for this. I agree Henry's departure was the saddest. I read they didn't tell anyone about it to get a genuine reaction when it was filmed. I caught some reruns recently & have the boxset. Some great characters.
Yes that's right, they didn't want the actors to look sad at the goodbyes. They didn't tell McLean at all until after the shoot. Also i think because he was the first main character to go it hit pretty hard. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Great look back at a fantastic series
Love this! Thanks for watching.
Trapper John MD,having starred Pernell Roberts, was an extension of the MASH character. Also,I may be mistaken, but wasnt David Ogden Stiers in "Frasier" with Kelsey Grammer?
Yes, that's right, there were a few spin offs from the tv show. AfterMash being the biggest. Trapper John MD was successful. WALTER (based on Radar) not successful. And there were a few others tried but not picked up. David Odgen Stiers was in one episode of Frasier. It must have been quiet the episode for you to remember it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
@@LittleBitofHistory80 My pleasure.Please take good care 😊 ☺
Annabelle the possessed doll?
Oh yes, that would have been a good one for this list. Thanks!
@@LittleBitofHistory80 You're very welcome. I hope You had a great Weekend and have a great, safe and peaceful Week 😊 ☺
Love Jell-O. Still make the orange Jell-O and grated carrot. Trick is to grate the carrot in while the Jell-O is warm. Takes up the sugar. Lots of the savory dishes used plain gelatin maybe with some stock. So they are not as horrible as you might think. Still make Fondue!
53 now Those were the days for sure with the girls and that sexy ass long teased up hair.....Damn
Sorry very drawn out
I remember passing through the smoking section on a plane once.. I was 5 or so.
An Aunt told me it was sitting in the smoking section on a plane that made her quit smoking. Thanks for watching.
You are awesome, you tell it like i would have, it is a bit scary sometimes :-D I really miss the 80's :-D
Oh my gosh, thank you! I miss the 80s too. Maybe I just miss being a kid, but people did seem happier back then!
@@LittleBitofHistory80 Many things were better and more simple. I was born in 76, but i miss the design the cloth and haircuts had, the feeling of choosing the what movie to rent, and even movie trailers were good and you only fastforward the bad once 😀 There are so much to miss, okay i was a kid/ almost teen back then, and the world were new and anything was an adventure. But still as an adult to day, i would still choose the 80's to live in if i could :-D I take a walk-man over a smartphone anyday :-D
Commonly for the guys if they love breakdancing and hip hop music of the 80's, the common item they can't leave home without is their boombox.
Very true! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I agree with alot of the ideas mentioned in this video....however....if you were more technically inclined, you could have been on the internet by the mid-90's like I was. And actually long before that, even in the 80's you could have an early internet-type of experience by visiting Computer Bulletin Boards (BBS's). Granted you weren't streaming full-screen videos or listening to all your favorite albums, but you could chat with other computer users about a myriad of subjects, download all sorts of pictures and short video or audio clips, play games (even with others), read the headlines, and study various subject in-depth because many of the early internet systems were connected to computers used at large universities across the country. Before eBay came along, I was posting and buying things for sale on what were called newsgroups or Usenet. I actually did alot of trading that way. It was a fun time because it was all new and fresh, and nobody quite knew where it was all headed. Of course, there were always many things to do if you got bored with the computer - many already touched on here. I think it's good to give yourself a break from the internet now and then to force your mind to be more creative, get some exercise, and reacquaint yourself with the wonderful world around you. If we're not careful, our modern immersive technologies can create bad habits and lead to bad mental or physical health, so we need balance.
Omg I’d forgotten those envelopes! Every office used them. And they had space on both sides! I started typing on a manual typewriter. My first office computer was a Wordstar word processor on a trolley that you booked out and plugged in to turn it on. No internet then!
It does all seem so strange now lol. Thanks for watching!
I was a huge fan of MacGyver. I still carry a Swiss Army knife today.
hahaha love this! Thanks for watching.
I always wondered if Mr. T shot J.R.. I bet that judge Harry T Stone or Macgyver might have known,
After watching this video, I wanna say I've done 65% of these activities in the 80's and 90's. My favorite sport is pro Football and Hockey and favorite team of course is Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings and as an 80's kid I collected sports cards and when I buy a pack of cards I always hope to score my favorite players. Next speaking of my favorite sports team's, when it's NFL season and the Lions are playing every Sundays I always put my favorite TV shows aside because when my home team is playing it is essentially mandatory I catch em play on TV, same goes for my Detroit Red Wings when NHL season is on TV.
I can certainly understand that as I have my favorite teams in Australian Football. Thanks for watching!
@@LittleBitofHistory80 Definitely should make an episode about collecting trading cards of the 80's and 90's ranging from pop culture to sports. Popular trading card brands are O Pee Chee, Upper Deck and Topps.
It was the best of times.
Great video! I also hate that you can't get any colour appliance anymore. They are all so plain and drab. I miss carpet! Even though I have hardwood floors and wouldn't cover them (except with area rugs) they are not as warm or cozy as carpet was. I like the 70's decor, mainly because it's comforting to me and reminds me of my childhood in the 80's. Lots of left over decor well into the 80's.
Yes, I read somewhere that because of the political upheaval in the 70s, people wanted their homes to be warm, cozy and comforting. And anything that brings back those lovely childhood memories are great! Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@LittleBitofHistory80 That's interesting! You would think, with all that's going on in the world today, people would want comforting colours and cozy homes. Instead, everything is drab, grey from floor to ceiling, or some equally plain colour on the walls. I miss the 80's & 70's decor not because it was pretty but because it was unique and bright. Keep up the great work!
I love everything about the fifties. I would love to live in the fifties but with all of todays medical advancements.
That would be nice. Thanks so much for watching.
ACTUALLY .. theregurar people got their Celeb gossip from the radio .. not many parents had the money to pay for teen mags
in the 80's , i had USA up all night, Mtv's Head Banger's Ball, and later on, 120 Minutes
LOL on your stealth.. my best friend and i, hooked up ham radio, through the phone lines, and even hooked our boomboxes to our line and Chanel, powered by car batteries ...lol 80's nerds were awesome
Hahaha, lovie it. Thanks for watching.
um, if you were a guy, holding it, trying to go to the bathroom without anyone noticing your ....woody
I hated all the brown, mustard and orange colours in decor. And all those hanging plants used to make me worry they would fall down. Plus the macrame was awful. I wasn’t a fan of the 70s tbh.
Glad I'm not alone in this. Thanks for watching.
It is kind of funny to think about those designs and décor of the 70s and 80s, how much time we spend together talking and doing thing together, and from the 2000s, after the internet became a thing, puf the magic is gone and homes are now a kind of wasteland, bare and cold, not ment to spend time together.
True. Thanks for watching!
@@LittleBitofHistory80 you're come
The is nice to know inside of a place, so what do the outside of the this place looks like? I agree what you say about shag carpets being ugly very smelly carpet with bus and almost impossible to clean up the shag carpet!
Enjoyed thank you.😊
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.
Too bad they had to separate classes for girls to do domestic work and shop for boys. Both could have used instruction in all those classes.
I agree.
Love the colors! And the canisters!
Me too!! Thanks for watching.
I love the colors of the 50s kitchen and the Fridgidair Flair stove
My house was built in 1949 and I’ve been slowly bringing it back to the colors of the fifties. My kitchen has yellow walls with a turquoise tile backsplash! I do have white cupboards and appliances but have been on the lookout for a pink or turquoise stove! 😀
This sounds lovely. Turquoise and yellow is so friendly! Good luck with the stove hunt. I know Smeg does color, but it is sooo expensive.
Turquoise and black, thanks for the video...
Love it! Thanks for watching.
I am now a senior so this is 'second time 'round' for me. I like the COLOURS of the kitchen. That meant walls, cupboards, countertops, and kitchen table. They don't have to match. In real life, women picked a colour scheme.....maybe 2 or even three colours that went together well. Combining colours made the kitchen uniquely yours. I am old fashioned in that I want my kitchen to have its own look....NOT like a part of the living room. I don't make cakes in my living room. I like the vibrancy of vinyl flooring. It is a perfect material for kitchens and because it has fallen out of popularity there is not much available that is interesting. The sky is the limit for pattern and colour with this material. Maybe the next generation will catch on to it. And for those who snub their nose at vinyl flooring....What do you think your 'luxury vinyl plank flooring' is made out of???
Haha, I love this. Thanks so much for watching and for this great comment!
thank you for an interesting and informative video - i still have my mother's pastel Tupperware from the early 60's and although the lids have slightly discoloured they still work hard for a living - every day! (south africa)
Lovely! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, glad you enjoyed it.
What I liked about the '50s kitchen was the fact that everything was built to last years. Unlike todays appliances that are built to last only 5 to 7 years while costing 4 times as much. I thought price gauging was against the law.
And I hate the look of stainless steel appliances. A whole room of them makes me feel like I'm in the kitchen of a MacDonald's restaurant.
I agree. If something lasts even 5 years these days that is pretty good, and like you say, it all just keeps going up in price.
Love!! I go for cheerful yellow!
I remember getting our first VCR. What a treat to be able to rent a dvd and watch it over and over and OVER again! Also, MTV got its start and watching all our favorite music videos…..Michael Jackson’s Thriller was the highlight!
Totally agree! Thanks for watching.
My first MTV video was van Halen jump
To me it seems the our 50's kitchens was more functional than today's kitchens. I remember our 50's kitchen and I loved the colorful cabinets, the huge fridge and plenty of counter top space. These days I work in a brown, disfunctional kitchen I wish every day I could change it, but it's not my house... What I miss the most in my today kitchen is the oven with the warming cabinets. I still have a ton of pyrex dishes people tell me " they're worth a fortune". You'll have to pry my pyrex out of my dead, cold hands...
In the futuristic kitchen designs in the 50s they had adjustable counter tops. I would LOVE that. I hate chopping up stuff because I have to lean over, I need the cutting bench to be higher. That just makes sense. We are not all one size. I'm with you on dreaming for a better kitchen. I wish for you a beautiful, functional kitchen one day to keep those precious Pyrex dishes in. Sounds like you have 70s brown, that is just the worst! Thanks so much for watching.
Also wish I could pick out one of those colorful bathrooms!
Yes! When the toilet and basin came in a range of colors! My house had a pink bathroom basin (I assume put in in the 50s) but it got too old and had to be replaced.
I was around in the fifties and I really miss color! Everything was more colorful-kitchens, houses, cars... It felt more joyful. Now everything is neutral-kitchens, houses, cars... It feels depressing.
It screams conformity and it is depressing!
I totally agree! Here in Australia, when buying a new car, it is a lot more expensive to have a color other than white. So it's all white cars everywhere. It's very sad.
And when you check out the You Tube interior designers, they are all promoting BEIGE, BEIGE, BEIGE. Prior to that they promoted gray. You see they have no idea of how to decorate so they figure if you pick a neutral and do everything in that colour, it would be safe, and if it's all the same colour it HAS to go with each other, right? (Wrong!).
@@LittleBitofHistory80 Awww, that IS really sad!
Are we seeing younger people missing out on learning how to "make do"? We repurposed many things just because either money was scarce or the items we wanted to buy weren't available. I recall wearing plastic bread bags over my socks inside my leaky rainboots --- anyone else? Others I knew wore galoshes (aka "rubbers" worn over the shoe), which I don't think are available anymore. Is it because children don't wear leather shoes so they don't need protecting? Does anyone even polish their shoes anymore? As more pre-prepared items came into the stores my mom, a natural born hoarder, had a ready supply of plastic containers to reuse for all sorts of things around the home. My grandma kept the buttons off her old clothing and put them into pill bottles to store for her next blouse or dress when she needed them. She did the same with zippers, too. My mom owns a wooden egg shaped thing used for darning socks --- are those even sold anymore? I wish I had studied shorthand, it would have come in handy in college and at various jobs. No one could read my notes then! I used to joke that I got a year of "Cs" learning to type and then had to rely on that ability the rest of my educational/working careers! That sure came in handy even if I no longer had to manually set margins or use carbon paper for copies. I love learning new things so I have no issue with the dawn of Microsoft and the advent of cell phones. I just hope I can afford to continue my learning journey as I age into retirement --- tech is very expensive! I do see some things coming back around: community compost is happening (now to reduce landfill size). It used to be that garbage went into the can not into a plastic bag first, hence the "compost" going to the landfill. No one wanted to live on the side of town where the local dump was located! The sharing electric cars and bicycles are good advances that we could have used back in the day rather than everyone having to save up their hard earned cash to buy these things. So somethings have been advancements. The skills and the various tools/equipment needed to use those skills put the means of production in the hands of the people. This is something that needs to come back around if we want to move from being a consumer driven economy and more capable of meeting our own needs (via repair and manufacturing what we require for daily living). Just my rambly 2 cents (or ought it be $5 now due to inflation?). Thanks for posting this, great little journey for us to take!
I love this! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thank you so much for watching and for sharing these great memories!
My grandmother had a button jar. When we were kids we thought it was treasure! We would spill it out and look at all the different buttons. ❤
