Nice looking tractor! We still have my dad's 730 and 12 foot rwa disk although they were "retired" back in 1977. Good equipment just too small for todays farming operation. We still play with it for the fun of it and remember when it was the "big" tractor on the farm. Pulling the old AC All-Crop 72 really makes it snort whan we are running 90+bushel of wheat through it! Back in 1966 if the wheat made 40 bph we were happy. My how things have changed!
@@farmer62401 The larger yields are definitely challenging for my JD 45 combine and my New Idea picker sheller. I’ve learned to take my time with these old machines and not get into a hurry to get things done.
If you have all that rye, can't you mill it so we can have pumpernickel bread? I would love to devour a Rueben on the rye sandwich piled high with corned beef!? Oh, and by the way, do you also raise beef cattle with fat& sassy briskets?
1969 was the last year of the Model 45, as well as the rest of the "5 Series."
What size rear tires are you running?
Cool. Thanks
Looks like fun to me! Nice job👍👍
We hope to get a sheller we bought by next year. 20 years outside haven’t done it any favors. Nice pair you have!
@@tomcorcoran3401 Thanks!
Those old Oliver’s are cool. I think I like them better than Farmalls.
You got to love it
Nice looking tractor,
@@stevenladd2822 Thanks!
Nice stand of beans there Roger. Back when I started out in the late 60's I scrounged up man early A Gleaner and a round back 55 Deere. The Deere was by far the better machine!
Looks like a lot of it sliding off the cutter bar.
Nice video, Is that a Hinkler cab ? I Think we had some like that on some Gleaner combines
It’s a Full Vision, Inc. cab. Still in business.
Brings back memories. My dad had a very similar 45 that he used from about '74 to '97. I made a video of it in soybeans in 1996: ua-cam.com/video/Bq-t4r_y6n0/v-deo.html Enjoy your videos, you must have a big collection of stuff!!
Enjoyed your video. Looks like he had a better cab. Not a big collection-everything I have has to do some chore if it’s running. I probably have too many plows and I have 9 old tractors. They all run but some need some attention to use for certain jobs. Thanks for watching.
Really clean rig. Takes me back to when I was a kid.
I’m the third owner. The fellow that owned before me had it from 1972 to 2022 -50 years! Used it every year, kept meticulous maintenance records and kept it inside. I paid probably too much for it but I have not had any problems with it the past 2 years. That’s worth something.
@@rogermiller7411 honestly, who cares what you paid for it as long as you love it and get to use it. My dad had a couple of 55’s and quite a few 95’s, they were his favorite. In the early 70’s he was always bringing another parts rig home. He usually just had one good, running machine and once in a while two. I learned to wrench on things because he was continually swapping parts around to make them better. Around 1980 he bought his last one, a square back 95. We only cut about ten acres a year with it for several years and it sat in the barn the rest of the time. It was in really good shape too. He finally sold it in the mid nineties because we had stopped growing grain for for several years and we needed the space in the barn. It broke his heart some because it was the end of an era for him.
Hey Brother I really enjoy your videos
Thanks!
Thanks for the video., including the narrating. My dad used a Case tractor with his all crop combine.
Gotta start teaching the young. Nice to see that
That's an All Crop 66.
that was interesting. I don't understand how Moldboard plowing works but it is interesting to me to see old plowing being done.
I would have preferred no talking and just listen to the equipment. So, I am not watching your video.
Enjoyable video.
From alfalfa to zinnias the All-crop handles over 100 different crops
It is rumored that you can throw a pumpkin in and it will separate the seeds . . . .
Very enjoyable and interesting video. I really like this older equipment that you show. May God Bless You!
My Dad used a 6’ Van Duran horse drawn converted to be pull by a tractor (a B Allis Chalmers) and usually planted around 50-60 acres of oats or a combination of oats and wheat every year. Took days to do the farm!
Wish I had a few acres to plant. I haul grain for a neighbor/friend . He has asked if I would like to plant a few acres. I’m sure he has a corner somewhere where it is more of a bother for him to get into with the big equipment that it is worth. I have an 8 ft. IH grain drill almost like my Dad had.. I also but a Co-op check corn planter with the wire, stakes and book so I would like to try demonstrating that. I have my Grandpa’s Farmall H and a cultivator so I could demonstrate cultivating in both directions. We’ll see what spring brings.
I would love to see you use that check row corn planter. We had a Blackhawk planter that we check rowed with. I still have the wire spool and stake somewhere in the barn.
@@rogermiller7411 I’ve never seen one used, I’ll try this coming spring.
Nice looking tractor and sounds good
❤looks great
Nice 730. I always wanted one but I never have gotten one. Had 2 different 720 diesels through the years and I started farming myself with a 630 and it was a good tractor. Have more modern tractors now other than a Super MTA that needs restoration. Thanks again for sharing the video.
Super MTA is the M to have!
Which RWA do you have? Mine has 7 disks per gang, and ball bearings. Post ‘61 from loop hose stand. Years ago I had both 720 and 730 diesels
Same as yours. Glad I don’t have to grease the gangs.
Your channel caught my eye as I have the same setup here on my farm. Love those orange and red machines.
Amazing video!! The model 730 is a good tractor. The diesel sips fuel and plenty of power. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Your 730 does not have the high speed transmission. At 3:47 the shifting pattern clearly shows 1st, 2nd, and 4th on the same side as reverse. High speed transmissions have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on the the same side as reverse. I wish John Deere would build some of these classic tractor series, new again. Although, too many modern regulations would ruin them.
My great grandparents had one just like it sitting in the barn years ago
Is it still there?
Nice video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
What a great sound!
Nothing runs like a Deere!
What type of pull type combine did you use? I still farm with the equipment my grandfather and dad bought new in the 50's and 60's. We run a 50, 520, 620, 630 and 720 Diesel. along with a 95 Corn special (Diesel). We like farming with the old equipment, as we can repair most of it ourselves.
John Deere 42. Go to my channel and there’s a couple of videos of it in action with the 730.
Love seeing that 730 strutting her stuff. Great tractor, great video. Thanks Roger
Enjoy your video's...brings back memories helping my Uncle farm in Indiana....What crops do you grow other than corn and soybeans? Do you use any commercial fertilizers? Great looking soil and crops. I just subscribed...really like your channel and style of farming...keep the videos coming. thanks. Kevin
Wheat also.
@@rogermiller7411 Ok...thanks Mr. Miller.
Nices tractor 🚜 ❤
I use a John Deere 1240 with the same marker system, every spring I clean the marker control with Carb cleaner to makr sure its super clean then put a little wd40 on it, works fantastic.
Mine works well on level ground. On side hills it doesn’t want to switch markers when I start a new round. I’ll try your cleaning method. Thanks for the tip.
@@rogermiller7411 I'm 60 y/o and this system of cleaning the marker changer works well for me even on hillsides. After the planter sits for a few days because of rain, I'll (high pressure air) clean the mechanism and put a little WD-40 on the pivot points. Been working great for years so far.
I really enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing. May God Bless You!!
That disk looks like mine you can adjust the angle. More angels more cut.
Thanks for the tip.
You can get better cutting action by adding weight to your disk, 100-150lbs per gang. Growing up, we had a MM 10’ disk that we added weights to and you couldn’t believe the difference, it would cut and break up the stacks to the point that it would look as if it was chisel plowed!
I have an 8 foot disk with about 400 pounds of weight on it. Maybe I will try that. Thanks
The New Idea picker Shelley looks like it’s doing a very good job on the shelling , look clean in the wagon.👍✌🏻🙏🏽🇺🇸😎
It does a good job from that respect. This year my corn was knocked down in spots from hurricane Helene so I left a lot in the field.
My grandfather had a 1941 Model M at his place in SE MO. Spent a lot of time on that wonderful tractor as a youth.
If you were a farm boy in the 1950’s you probably drove an M at some point. I helped a neighbor that had 2 M’s and a Super M. The M’s he named Mike 1 and 2 and the Super he named Big Mike.
You can adjust the clearance of the snapping rolls. The dryer the corn the more butt shelling it will do. As it gets colder, I'll do my picking in the morning and again later at night because the drying stalks tend to load up in the head. When I was younger I used to easily cover a couple hundred acres with a New Idea picker and picker sheller. You may find the Over under on the Oliver handy. We used a 4020 power shift. That was an enjoyable job for me. I started running the picker when I was 16. I ended up doing most of the picking on that farm even after I got another job on another dairy where I picked most of the corn there too.
@@danw6014 Thanks for the tips. I did adjust the snapping roll clearance which helped.
Nice video Roger, the looks and sounds great but I miss the 730 😉
Nice vid. I have a New Idea 324 on 38” rows and I used it last year to pick popcorn and a little field corn. I actually pull it behind my 20 HP John Deere 750! I have to go slow put it does pull it, though I don’t have the sheller, just the husking bed. I wouldn’t mind having a little more power though, like that beautiful Oliver. Keep the vids coming!
I have used a smaller tractor but I also pull a 150 bushel hopper wagon and on hilly ground it sometimes made the tractor go sideways. The Oliver and my John Deere 730 are heavy enough that they don’t do that so that’s why I use them.
Pretty cool Brother
