Try Bonsai
Приєднався 23 тра 2021
Try Bonsai formally "Potting with Shellon" is geared toward documenting my journey through the world of bonsai, the ups, downs, triumphs and failures. As the name says, (Try Bonsai) its a channel dedicated toward trying everything related to the art of bonsai, while heavily advocating for mental well-being, balance, and keeping the hobby as inexpensive as possible.
I dreamt of Wrightia Religiosa (Water Jasmine) - Try Bonsai
My sleep was bombarded by this particular plant, so I woke up quite early to repot and restyle it. The styling and its roots weighed heavily on my mind, so I did some work.

I got a visit from one of my best friends Candice, and we took a really nice drive to my "comfort zone"... My friend Andel gave me 2 awesome Bougainvilleas, that I did some repotting and root selection on, and I checked on the success of 2 air layers I did. Reworking an OLD Ficus, restyle and repot - Try Bonsai

Texan Ebony & Ironwood Air Layers and Agri Expo - Try Bonsai
Переглядів 91Місяць тому
I was overjoyed as I got to experience my first Agri Expo, and I extracted air layers from my Texas Ebony and an Ironwood air layer off an air layer. The Agri Expo had so much to see and experience, including a display by @BonsaiTTart and I only realized after being there that it was too much to "take in" in one visit. As for the air layers, 3 were successful out of the 5 layers I did on my 2 T...

Looking good bro!
@@Saiyato thanks buddy
Tree is looking nice! I agree with you 1000% on bonsai not having to be expensive! I love thrifting for things to use. You can find great things to use for pots.
@@BuffaloBonsai there is a misconception that this is a hobby for the elite and it's expensive, and it's not.... I believe everyone could try it no matter how shallow their pocket is.... Bonsai is expensive when you are buying an established old tree from a nursery or someone else.... Thanks for the support 🎉🎉
Excellent tutorial, Doctor!
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks so much Tom 🎉🎉
That was one cool blue pot! Nice root system on this 2nd tree. Dr. Banner doing root surgery in operating room 2. Students, bring pencil and paper to take notes. Don’t forget an apple for the good doctor.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 😂😂 ...an apple a day 😁
Tree one is cool!
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 I have a lot of trees to prune and some repotting to get done... The rain has my trees acting as though they're on steroids 🤣🤣
Loved your pruning decisions, good sir! What a beautiful little tree. I don’t know if you noticed, but it looked like someone snuck into your house while you were filming! 😉

Great decision on cutting it back looking forward to see the future outcome 👍🏾 🎉

Looks great! I like the pot i have one similar to it.
@@BuffaloBonsai thanks... You do?! That's great !!!
@@trybonsai yeah but mine started life as a baking dish it's got handles on the sides which actually come in handy. You can see it in my forsythia video!
@@BuffaloBonsai ok great, I'll watch it 😁
Seawater does “preserve” wood however it also expands it, that’s only in instances where there is continuous exposure… soo let’s say you try a concentrated saltwater mix… I’ll try it too, I have a similar Boug that I am working on.
@@prfsnlisland_boy Thankful for the information.... This is indeed valuable... I will try it when the trees are well established and thriving.... 🎉🎉🎉
Either way could work, how fast does it grow? If it's a moderate grower then I would put it as a bigger forest.
@@kerronramganesh it's not super fast but it's not overly slow either.... A bigger forest is an idea, but there is a beauty in this smaller composition 😁
Leave it as is
@@16kwillia I did 😁 .... It's way too amazing to disrupt

Looking good bro! Just started seeing roots on airlayer #2 on my Brazilian rain tree 🎉
@@brandonsmith2902 bro that's great 😃
Welcome to the Bougainvillea club man!!! One of my favorite species. 👏👏👏
@@16kwillia oh yeah?!... I'm up for local techniques on how to preserve the wood 😁
Nice visit from your friend.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 she's been my friend for over 20 years... She migrated to Canada a few years ago, so it was a really exciting and relaxing day spending it with her..... I got some goodies from that trip that I'll show off in the next video 😁
Air layer #2, at least you received some roots on it. Should take off after the root helps the cutting to gain more. Bummer losing that 2nd root.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 I couldn't help but laugh....it only had 2 roots and 1 fell off.... I hope with the humidity it survives and takes off
On that big cutting, scrape the bark between the brains and put on hardwood root hormone. Should work out for you. Sometimes the air layer takes and sometimes it does not. Luck of the draw so to say. At least you tried.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 yeah I did...and I am funny enough, more excited about the experiment.... I know it's unusually big, but say what?! Go big or go home 🤣
Boug #2, with that hollow feature, a bear cave? Super cool! I have not heard that saying in a long time. Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. Welcome to the club. I have the sniffles also. Weather changing. Have a cup of sage tea to help rid yourself of it. To preserve the wood can you get some titebond wood glue? Brush it on and it dries clear. Check in your hardware store for wood glue if you do not have TiteBond. Hopefully all grows well after the repotting and the hollow does not rot out.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks for the suggestion.... I will go check it out.... That's a great name for that particular tree..the bear cave bougainvillea..... I hope you get over the flu quickly my friend....🎉🎉🎉
Nice thick Boug trunk with the hollow in it. Nice root system on it. The repotting will bring out some nice growth to it and the enjoyment of a bonus with flowers.
@@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 thanks Tom... It's awesome🎉🎉
