Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. Lausanne Switzerland. Walk through and review.
I recently visited Titanic The Artifact Exhibition in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The video gives an in-depth view of 200 artefacts recovered from the wreck site of RMS Titanic and displays recreations from some of Titanic's famous interiors.
Touch the iceberg and feel the freezing temperatures that many of Titanic's passengers endured that fateful night. It's not to be missed.

It's interesting that there is a photo of the Duff Gordon's sitting nestled together in their lifeboat while it is still on deck yet to be launched sans the other passengers. Hmm?🤔🤫🫲
He was SIR COSMO! Knighted as he was and on that day in that age arguably THE most important person on that ship. As to his health and well being one answered to the Queen ! No way he and Lady Duff are going down with the ship . Come He'll or High Water!🤔☝️🫵👈🙏
I'm curious on was there any dark-skinned people on the Titanic and was it true that dark skinned black people were not allowed on the ship and when I say black people I mean people of dark skin color, not people that have white moms and black fathers like mixed with half black. No those people are not the same as dark skin people so I was just curious on was there any like them and was it really racist back in those times
What a good question. During my years of research I have only ever come across one such person. If you head to this link it should answer your question: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Philippe_Lemercier_Laroche
@BeyondTheTitanic thank you I appreciate it ☺️👌💯
Thank you for this . Its ashame the staircase isnt included .
You can view the staircase every now and then during special events. For example, they offer afternoon tea on selected Sundays, usually throughout the summer months.
Thank you so much for this documentary. I personally really enjoyed it as he is a relative of mine. Bizarrely my grandfather (now passed) used to tell me stories about him watching the ship sail in 1912 (when he was 12) later for him to have a daughter who ended up marrying into the Feet family. I only found out he was a relative of mine a couple of years ago. If you have any further information please let me know. Thank you again, I have sent this to my family to watch.
Thank you. I’m glad you liked the episode. I’m glad I did him justice and I hope your family agree. I’ve always had a soft spot for Mr Fleet and I was so keen to cover his story on my channel.
Very good. Enjoyed your story and account of Frederick Fleet very much and the manner in which you conveyed it.
Really glad you enjoyed the episode. Keep an eye out for more content coming soon.
*Ismay's* turning of his back on a sinking ship 🚢 is enough evidence for me.
you have done nomadic, you have done Olympic, that leaves one sister left
It does. I like to film on location and that means a trip out to Greece…..it’s in the pipeline 👍🏻
I was a docent for the Titanic exhibit in Seattle in 1999. Have always had a fascinating for the Titanic story. Can't say why? Maybe curiosity. Maybe to know if I would have survived. Think I would have. Would love to visit the center (although not sure why it's not in the UK) but Ireland is way too antisemitic and anti-israel for my tastes.
Do not go down the steps in front of the titanic sign! I have fallen on the steps because while day it wasn’t lit and I couldn’t see how deep the steps were and how narrow some were and I completely missed one and sent me flying to the ground and fractured my ankle in 3 places and dislocated it
I am really enjoying your presentations while I recover from knee replacement in hospital. I am a teacher librarian in Australia and Titanic books are extremely popular in my library. You are so entertaining. Thank you.
Thanks so much. Really glad you like the episodes. I hope your knee heals quickly, wishing you a speedy recovery 😁.
He did spend time helping with the woman and children and swinging out the boats and that's great good on him for that. But he was the owner essentially and like a ships captain, he should have found a woman to take his seat and taken his chances and if ot didn't work out well that would suck but his boat , ultimately he's responsible. Cutting back on boats to look more luxurious and wanting to beat Olympics record and covering up the fire that most likely weakened the ship , that's on him . Idk 🤷♂️. As a man , I would have figured something out
Crazy how WSL couldnt be bothered to at least get the bodies home after killing them
I own the front cover of Starland, part of the sheet music found with the violin. It's my prized item and I have recently agreed to loan it out to a museum.
Wow that’s awesome. I did look at bidding on some of the sheet music but suffice to say it went way, WAY out of my budget 😂.
@BeyondTheTitanic I'm very privileged to own such a thing. It undersold at auction in 2013 and it's worth an absolute fortune. I live in York so not far away from where the violin was discovered.
York is a very fine city. My sister lives there and I’m often visiting. Particularly around the festive season because it’s so beautiful, although it gets very busy.
My great grandfather was titanic survivor and crewman Albert Horswill. He was on cutter lifeboat one with Cosmo and Lucy Duff Gordon. It was reprehensible how the Duff Gordons were treated, Cosmo was a fine person who made a generous gesture to those crewmen, Albert included.
Great video!!! You are a very good narrator 👍👏👏👏
Aw thanks so much. Really glad you liked it.
Do you think the key could have been taken out of spite for being removed from his role
Possibly. But in the grand scheme of things, a missing key would have had minimal impact in the running of the ship. Unless he knew of the future predicament and the importance of having it, it’s likely it’s a case of he simply forgot about it.
The Jewish part of the cemetery you visited may be locked because they could be worried that people will deface the graves.
This is the assumption I made. Never mind.
Wonderful episode. I really enjoy your style and content; especially how you visit sites connected to the story. Please keep making these videos!
Thank you. I’m so glad you like my channel. Keep an eye out for new content coming soon 😁👍🏻
@BeyondTheTitanic Yay! I'll look for them. 🙂
Its what he did before the ship sailed Bulkheads to low not enough life boats and cheap rivets
My brother went I stayed with my older cusin
I liked this video!
I live right next to the grave yard in halifax
I would not go to see any artifactsthat were bought up from the bottom of the sea. The 3 survivors I spoke to said it was their parents grave & they wanted it left alone. So I respect their wishes. There was one in Vegas in the Luxor when I was on holiday, but I never went. RIP.
Each to their own. It’s certainly a forever on going debate. One I tend to fall on the side of recovery and preservation to help maintain legacy of Titanic and her passengers. But I understand and respect that not everyone feels that way.
A lot of what you say resonates with me. I used to be a Titanic buff for many years, but once Cameron's movie came out my interest was no longer there. I just felt that there were just too many "instant experts". But having said that I did enjoy hunting down the Titanic related graves and memorials in Southampton, and occasionally I will check out the documentaries about it. Fairview was always on my bucket list though, but it is no longer an obsession. Thanks for the visit, it saved me a trip :-) Now to work my way backwards through your videos.
I have heard the "what ifs" over the mishaps that forced the Titanic's maiden voyage to be delayed three weeks, that Titanic would have simply been the "largest ship in the world" for a short time instead of being the legendary wreck that it is, but I wonder your thoughts on this: I've understood maiden voyages to be less full than the ones that come after, and it was testified at the hearings that flying through the North Atlantic regardless of the presence of ice was very typical. Titanic's second voyage after March 20 would have been three weeks later... on April 10. That voyage still would have taken place on the same schedule, and may well have been full if it wasn't the maiden voyage, and they still would have gone charging into the same ice field in the same weather even if they had "turned the corner" at a different spot. I tend to think they likely would have hit an iceberg anyway and in a best-case (they fill all the boats with the same souls on board), they still lose a thousand people. Worst case, they lose 2,500 instead of 1,500.
Titanic’s title of being the world’s largest ship would have been very short lived, at the earliest as soon as her sister Britannia was launched, she would have handed the title to her having already taken it from Olympic. She was only 70% occupied for her maiden voyage. From my understanding it was common to steam through ice fields to a certain degree. The question here isn’t weather Titanic should have stopped, but at what point did it become reckless to proceed and where did that point lie when other ships had made the decision to stop. I think an accident on a large scale like Titanic would have occurred at some point in time, if not to Titanic then some other vessel.
Thank you for your wonderful biography of Madeline Astor. It was such a tragic life after being widowed so very young . Rest in peace, Madeline Astor .
You’re welcome. I’m glad you liked the episode. 👍🏻
Another great video. 🤗 x
Hello, I am a grandson and great grandson of two Titanic survivors. Little Frankie Goldsmith was my grandfather. I watch your videos on the ship. I have never once thought you disrespected the memory of those lost. I have always found your videos informative. My wife and I will be traveling to the UK in May 2025 aboard the Queen Mary . Essentially recreating the crossing of my grandparents on the Queen Mary in 1965. Our plan is to cover Titanic in Southampton followed by a few days in Scotland and ending our trip in Belfast.
Hi. Thank you for the comment. Wow I have always wanted to travel on the Queen Mary, the only thing that has stopped me is I think I would feel slightly out of place with Cunard. I’m very much a jeans and t shirt kind of person 😂. It’s weird, I was only thinking about Frankie Goldsmith the other day and his comments about and how the sound of the cheering crowd from the baseball games near his home reminded him of the cries of the people in the water. Every time I’m at a concert or mass even I think about his comments. I’m pleased you like my episode.
@@BeyondTheTitanic in this video , as you were panning the list of the lost, my great grandfather’s name caught my eye. This is why I reached out to you. Earlier this year the traveling exhibit stopped in Columbus, Ohio which is near where I live. Like you I have yet to visit Orlando or Las Vegas. The Big Piece is in Las Vegas. I have friend who was on its recovery expedition. The Queen Mary 2 is a bit posh. Like you, I am a jeans and t shirt kind of guy. The trip by ship is the result of a 50 year dream. In part a way of honoring and remembering the Titanic portion of my family history but also part of experiencing the romance of sea travel. There are other transatlantic voyages but not on a true ocean liner. The ships course is also very close to that of Titanic and passes very near if not over the wreck site. We will arrive in Southampton on 30 May 2025. We may travel to Kent, to see where my family lived before going north to Scotland but nothing is fully planned yet. Thanks for responding and you’re welcome to stay in touch.
Hi James! Another great video. Many thanks to you and your sister! ;-)
Hi. Thank you for the comment. I’m glad you like the video 😁
I enjoyed this👏.. and the story about the unknown to known child, wow. Even now, over 100 years ago.. the story about the loss of people aboard Titanic is very sad.
I’m pleased you liked the episode 👍🏻
I went to the museum years ago to see a Game of Thrones exhibition they were holding. I managed to sweet talk my way in to getting a peek at the grand staircase because I was a huge Titanic buff. I agree with your review of the end of the tour. It’s a bit underwhelming and contradicting to go from remembering the Titanic disaster to pretending you’re the king of the world.
Yes, it's the personal items that are special to me as well. Loved the video!
Thanks for the comment. So happy you enjoyed it.
Hi Sir James. I'm glad you reminded us about how the ship represented the tragedy of losing so many lives. That is why I call the Titanic the ship of broken dreams, not the ship of dreams. Another great an interesting documentary for which I again thank you so much. By the way I'm glad you mentioned your sister who also deserves credit for filming these wonderful documentaries.
Thank you for the comment. My sister is a little super star for coming along and helping me. She really is the hidden gem of the channel.
I just found your channel! I LOVE the titanic. I cannot wait to watch all your videos. Thank you for doing this
Aww thanks so much. Really pleased you like the episode.
Absolutely brilliant video am sooo surprised it hasn't reached the views it needs, keep up the great work 👍
Thanks for the comment. Of course it would be nice to receive more views but the positive comments are just as appreciated. I’m glad you liked it 👍🏻
when you said Brussels well i went there for the meseum it was good i love the titanic
I live in Ontario Canada and in 2019 my husband and I went to nova Scotia and visited the cemetery where mant of the titanic dead were buried and saw his grave then found out he had finally had been named...also saw his little shoes how heartbreaking...my parents emigrated from the Netherlands after the 2nd world War and their ship docked in Halifax
@beyondthetitanic if you make it back to Halifax sometime, don't forget to check out the SS Atlantic memorial outside of Halifax... I believe there’s a small museum there that's open seasonally. Was the worst White Star disaster before 1912, and it happened only a half hour or so from Halifax.
Awesome, I do plan to go back to Halifax at some point 👍🏻.
I just discovered your videos and have really been enjoying your 'Beyind Titanic' series. Thank you for makng these.
Thank you! So pleased you like the episodes 👍🏻
Love watching your videos. They are presented in a light hearted way but at the same time relating the story in a very interesting manner. A very good blend. I am eagerly looking forward to the next episodes. I am sure the content as always will be most interesting. The subject of the Titanic and everything that relates to her is so fascinating, and that will always be the case.
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel 😁
I remember reading about a father who kidnapped his two little boys and used false names to get on the Titanic; he and his wife were foing through a very bitter divorce. He put the boys in a life boat and told them to tell their mother that he was sorry. The boys were eventually reunited with their mother while living in New York
I’ve covered this topic in a separate episode found here Beyond The Titanic. Ep 11. The Stolen Siblings. (Navratil) ua-cam.com/video/-CG3kMVNRSM/v-deo.html
I just paused the video at 7 mins to comment, your research is superb and the back story and timeline are fantastic and create a real image of the life and times of this Gentleman and his family. I'm from blackburn, just down the road from Colne really. And I'm proud of our northern figures. None more so than Wallace
Thank you for the comment. I’m really pleased you liked the episode 😁
@@BeyondTheTitanic was superb mate
Well done. ❤
I don’t like whiskey either ! Great video❤
Well done !
I live in Halifax (pronounced Hal-a-fax not Hal-e-fax btw, lol) and attended the ceremony for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, which was very beautiful, it was held at the Fairview Cemetery. You spoke of the Snow funeral home which relocated to Robie Street and then about 10 years ago, it relocated again to Lacewood Drive which I actually live nearby. J.A. Snow's erected a large gravestone in front of their building to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. We see bus loads of people (often they are passengers of one of the many cruise ships that stops here in Halifax) visiting the Fairview Cemetery to see all the graves! Fun fact - my husband's name is James Cameron and when the movie that was made by James Cameron came out, my husband was involved in a search & rescue group which he co-founded so he was able to be found if googled because he was online because of the S&R group. So when people found his name and saw he was in Nova Scotia, they just assumed that he was the famous director and we got hundreds of emails, some requesting autographs, read their scripts, or send them money! One chap from the UK wanted money for a new car, when we didn't send him any, he found our postal box address and sent a letter by snail mail again demanding money from us! Now we had already told him after his second email that it wasn't the James Cameron, the director but he persisted anyway, lol. He finally gave up! 🇨🇦🦋
Great reporting as usual.
Glad you liked it 😁
Great episode RIP, Mr Hartley, family and the lost souls of the Titanic.🙏🏻
Sad tale. It’s a shame that no one thought to break the lock of the key box to get the binoculars out. I have read that the sea conditions that night were very calm making it hard to see the iceberg. Good job for your reports & channel.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoy the channel 😁
