I remember being a Nadal and Thiem fan and not caring Rafa always denied him at RG because he'd have his day. Injuries are a real MF. Now like 5 years removed, so glad Dom got the 1. Him and Delpo just a shame

Federer had lots of success with B players and B tournaments. 50 % of his titles were on the 250/500 circuit. Fed has only 33% winning record in GS mataches and GS finals against Novak/nadal!!! That is failure!! Fed was weak mentally, weak backhand, never evolved his sqaush game, had no fight just depended on the armchair tennis fans oogling him on and still didn't dominate novak/nadal both have better winning record H2H against him... Nadal never lossed at french finals, Djoki never lossed a Aussie finals, Fed lossed 4 times at Wimbledon finals on his supposed best service grass to djoki and nadal....Fed sold more running shoes though !!..to all the koolaid drinking suckers...Thank god nadal and Djoki came along to save tennis from FEDSQAUSH

Too bad his win-loss against Nadal and Djokovic is so negative, otherwise he would be the undisputed GOAT. The best underachiever to have ever played the game.

Almagro's backhand was devastating. He had chances to put this match away. It's always a good thing to watch a good/great player challenge the mystique of a Federer.

In 2013 Federer was not in shape. Especially in that clay period post Roland Garros where he tested a bigger racquet ( Wilson pro stock H22-16x19- 98head size) . He didnt like it and decided to come back to his trusted small Wilson P.S 90 for the US open. Wilson made for him another bigger racquet in 2014 ( RF97) and he played with it untill the end of his carrer.

Almagro WAS NOT a heavy hitter. He was a pusher. His game was entirely based on regularity. Corretja, Bruguera, Berasategui, Almagro, Mantilla, Bautista-Agut, Ferrer. All those forgotten names contributed to make the “spanish pushing style” the most sucessful game style in professional tennis.

We can see why Nadal dominated clay. This is a surface you have to win by attrition, and nobody has a physique and spin like Nadal. Federer came closest to Nadal in this tournament but never again.

I always find it annoying when the crowd applauds one way like : we love Federer and even if his opponents hits a great shot - we won't acknowledge it. That's how I got turned off from Roger. For me, I can appreciate and applaud any shot - favourite or not. Even the commentators were gushing and had to find a way to give Brands some credit.

Checking out Almagro career H2H against Nadal span 2004-2017 he was 1-15. Against Djoker 0-5. Against Roger 0-5. He has a wicked forehand down the line.....but.... These highlights don't reflect it, but Almagro made a lot of unforced errors.

Almagro’s one handed backhand ranks with the best of all time. His extreme grip, similar to Michael Stich’s, allowed to him to hit more drive returns of serve than any other one hander. A money stroke.

Heavy hitters always seem big when they make flashy winners, but they always run out of gas eventually against Federer. You can't compensate lack of ball control with power.
