I am a German guitar player based in Cologne, gigging and recording with my band The Technique. Besides the obvious noodling, I also do videos about unsung guitar heroes and the Line6 Helix.

Very nice playing :>) Great musician having fun with cool ideas. Thank you for making this video mate :>)
Thank you very much. I'm very happy you liked the music.
Loved your chat
Thanks a lot.
Durch Zeit und Raum... Love It!
Nice universe 👍🙏
Thanks a lot!
im still new to guitar, robert seems to play fast on Play for today, 'down-up-down' between chords very fast. i cant do it yet. any tips?
Speed cones from many things. In said lick, you have to have good control over your right hand and be very relaxed at the same time. This is all very general, I would have to see your posture and motion to give you specific tips.
One of my favorite guitarists of all time, thank you for breaking this down!
unfortunately the sound don't pass thru you tube due to a bad recording
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I can't reproduce the problem. Audio plays perfectly here.
Awesome Jakob thank you. Probably my fave ever band, you nailed the tone. Mick Ronson next maybe?
Thank you very much, also for your suggestion for a new episode.
Bedtime for Democracy was the first "political" album I'd heard as a teenager. I listened, and it guided me to further think about injustices and why things are... the way they are. It opened my eyes to a lot of things. I have been a fan ever since, even though Jello Biafra is sometimes full of shit. So glad to see East Bay Ray getting some love and recognition, and the Dead Kennedys being showcased as musicians instead of political / punk vehicles. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for watching!
Dude, this is an awesome video. Huge DK fan and love to know more about this guy’s playing. You got a great understanding of his style and influence, I think.
Thank you very much.
❤nice video, thanks
what I love about this wonderful guitarist is that he used a yamaha SG just like Yury Kasparyan :)
Really hepful vid, thank you. More on Killing Joke is welcomed ;)
Great video abd playing What type pickups and settings can you do on that guitar? Looks like you have extra switches at the bottom
Thanks a lot. The Pickups are Seymour Duncan P Rails and can be switched to be either a P90, a humbucker or a single coil. That's also what the switches are for. I have a video on this: ua-cam.com/video/gdlE3K7mk-k/v-deo.htmlsi=0PWEN5hJYGtF1QJH
A guitar is an instrument. You can play it anyway you want.
I'm not sure how this is in any way in disagreement with above video?
@@jakoblangenohl No, it’s for all the ”professional guitar nerds”…😎
You’ve got great taste! 👍
Thanks.
Merci de la bonne musique !
De Rien!
i love your breakdowns of these incredible bands. There is so little online about the actual musicality of Siouxisie & the Banshees and The Cure
Thank you.
Excellent!
RIP Geordie. Still find it hard to accept that he's no longer with us. One of the Greatest, along with Being in one of the Greatest Bands. Great Video 😀
Thanks a lot. He was still alive when I filmed this. So many great musicians have died in the last years. ☹️
nice bass notes at 3:40 min
Did J.M mess about with different tunings or stick with standard?
Do you mean if he customised equipment? I have no information that he did ,except for mounting the flanger on a mic stand so he could tweak it while playing.
@@jakoblangenohl : No not that. Whether he stuck with the standard E,A,D,G,B,E guitar tuning or experimented with something more esoteric.
@@robnewton3368 There were some experiments for sure, but the vast majority is in E Standard.
awesomeness thank you for the video, i have watched so many videos and you have shown me more in one vidoe then the over 100 i have watched.
Thank you very much. Glad the video was helpful.
Great video!
Thanks!
He also played on the Banshees' Thorn EP which is wonderful.
No mention whatsoever of the Bass VI and the semi hollow and hollow guitars ???
2:30 this part is wrong. First, he does not play that on a guitar but on a Bass VI. Second, the reason he stays on the B string is that he is droning the open E string at the same time.
Although I'm primarily a bass player myself, John McGeoch will always be one of my top guitarists. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Carruthers, McKay, Kline, Smith but, all for different reasons. McGeoch just raised the benchmark. Not only that, he created his own benchmark. His contributions left a clear imprint upon each and every band he was in, despite them having well known musicians and frontmen/woman. Fortunately, he left his mark on music history and I hope the upcoming biopic of his life shines the spotlight upon him the way it should've since the start of his career... Excellent video here. Nod in your direction... 👍👌✌️
Thank you so much for this -- McGeoch was the most inventive guitarist of his generation.
I would also give a nod to Andy Gill RIP Gang of Four
Hey there thanks for making this video. Could you elaborate on the preset settings? I have a Katana and would like to make a preset. Thanks!
The preset is done with the Helix, so it's hard to say how that translates to the katana as it has a vastly different underlying modeling concept. Use the clean amp with pedals. But that doesn't help you, does it?
@@jakoblangenohl Just a whole lot of Flanger!
Very educational, thank you. I love Geordie (RIP) and Killing Joke
He's from Chester le street. Not newcastle. He's a Durham born dude. He was nicknamed geordie cos of the north east accent he had.
Hello, it's a common mistake to think that jazzmasters have p90's but they don't. They have jazzmaster pickups they are wide range single coils.
The masterpiece by Magazine called... The light pours out of me... is superb.... I never get tired of listening to it...
Anyone tried flipping single coil blade on bridge pickup upside down? If so was it worth trying?
If you want another great example of Tommy Bolin's tone, listen to post toastee from his solo career
You are a lot off with what notes they are playing but I like how you did it anyways
very well done thank you
Fun fact: obituary turns their tone knobs off on their guitars because they are huge hell hammer / celtic frost fans,,,u can tell on early material even in the riffing.
I will bet that even Andy Summers is a Fan of John's if not an imitator to some degree.
Roundabout chords are inaccurate
Pronounced Steve How
The Jazzmaster pickups are not P90’s. They are single coil Jazzmaster pickups
Thanks Jakob. Great vid! Have you created a Pod Go preset as well?
Unfortunately no. I don't own a pod go.
Thanks!
John was one of the most creative guitarist ! Magazine and the Banshees would not be the same without him ... and he influenced a whole generation ...
From a 2006 interview (Monotheist era, their last album): Q: I [...] was wondering if you lower the tone knob on your guitar to get that smooth yet evil sounding guitar tone? Tom: "Yes, I have the tone almost entirely closed." He always did it and keeps on stating in said interview that whenever he gets to play guitar, first thing he does is turning down the tone knob.
I remember my eight grade year, I was listening to Kate Bush a lot. Weird, because I was into hardcore and punk. KB would be like a way to cleanse the music pallet I guess.
Totally agree loved his playing on tinderbox
Such a great pick up just a few issues in the design IMO. The single coil and p90 side are too different in output levels. In theory not that hard to fix if you order custom shops or know someone who can wind that side custom. However the single coil side being placed on the inside of the pickup is a missed opportunity to make them even better. Flip the sides and theyll do fender like tones better. Better windings being matched better helps the humbucker tone. P90 should be affected less in both regards. Essentially my idea to make em even better. Then drop em in something ridiculously versarile. Sophia with the wheel adjustment block and drop d lever or similar brudge or like a floyd with a tremelno and a evh drop d tuna. Potentially in a strandberg or like a modified parker fly. But wiring mods as well. Push push pots. In normal mode just standard wiring Essentially functions kinda like a blower switch mod but leaves you with the knobs you want. Dip switches on the back inside the rear cavity. Magnetic cover. Add in the phase wiring mods. Also gonna do it in something gibson scale length as well. Probably both with middle single coil pick ups or maybe one single coil other p90. But, in and out of phase. Series and parallel wiring. 3 way switch lets you select the second mode. D tune option gives you 2 tunings in one guitar. Add in a detailed eq pedal and noise gate and you should be good. Hum eliminator at most as a 3rd option. Studio monster and touring monster of a rig. Throw a n tune tuner pot or something like a built in distortion or other effects circuit. Modify the bridge with piezo bits. And even more versatile but not even needed. Add in the carbon rod supported necks. On something light weight. With a wide enough band eq and the right other pedals you can get it to sound exactly as needed. Using amp and cab sims also helps.
