really enjoyed thatJon- I went there about 3x back in the day of the protests and before the park-late 1980's very early 90"s. I wasn't a protester but a supporter. It was so totally muddy and rugged with no real trails. Camped on the gravel bars just below the three sisters. I would love to go back but might need my son with his truck now. the last 5 km were terrible back then too! Never went past the sisters very far. you did well . So wonderful it was saved.

Interesting, I've wanted to see this place for a long time. I really want to canoe to the coast if that's possible I think that would be much more scenic. Does the hiking trail not go all the way to the coast?

    • @IslandUncharted

The trails at upper Carmanah defiantly do not connect to the West coast trail unless your a hardcore adventurer, even then it would be a challenge at best (bushwack) Canoeing is something I have always wanted to learn, what better way to travel right? that being said the river from the ocean at one point must have connected to where we were. Carmanah translates to "as far up as a canoe can go" it may have been named after the main portion, I am not certain. Thank you for the comment

@IslandUncharted lol, yeah the ferry system is a little wonky there. There ferry goes to Alert Bay on every other sailing. Also you can't get from Alert Bay from Malcolm Island. You have to return to Port McNeil and go back to Sointula and then on to Alert Bay. It's complicated. Great video BTW.

great video! i have good/bad memories of this hike - had a lot of fun finding all the bits of history but couldn't get to the lighthouse as it was fenced off from the public for a few years. it also rained for 4 days straight! had to walk back in knee-deep water in a lot of spots. the longest hike i've done (in one day) with the heaviest pack i've ever taken in. and i wasn't a big fan of the taste of that water with all the tannins in it! Also got to see an entire pack of wolves up way too close and personal! it's a great spot, i'd love to get back there someday, and maybe hike a bit more of the eastern part (north coast trail). thanks for sharing!

Nice video! I've been camping in that area for 40 years. 1RST with kids and then grandkids. Unfortunately, MOSAIC FOREST MANAGEMENT took over the area, PUT UP SIGNS EVERYWHERE, Gated and blocked all the rustic campsites at Dickson Lake, Elsie Lake Ash lake and more... They have security people stopping you and they lock the gates as soon as they finish RAPING.. SORRY, Logging. They DONT WANT YOU TO SEE THE DEVESTATION AND CLEAR CUTTING THATS GOING ON!! AS THE WORDS TO THE SONG GOES: "Sign Sign everywhere a sign, Blockin out the scenery, Breakin my mind, Do this don't do that cant you read the sign? .....and the sign said anybody caught trespassing, will be shot on site, so I jumped on the fence and yell at the house, HEY, what gives you the right? To put up a fence to keep me out, BUT to RAPE mother nature within, if GOD was here he'd tell you to your face MAN YOUR SOME KIND OF SINNER!!! Hi Dear, Your video content is really good. but views and subscribers are much lower. To increase subscribers and views, you need to do channel SEO meaning your videos are not fully SEO. SEO is not friendly to your title. The SEO score is very low. The main reason why videos go viral is because of video SEO and organic promotion. If you do SEO and promotion then lots of views and subscribers will come to your channel and you will be able to monetize your channel in a few days. I can help you. If you went.
