Railway History Nerd here: The railway grade that was the genesis of the Alberni Inlet Trail was the "CNPR," not CPR.
CNPR stood for "Canadian Northern Pacific Railway," and was a company that built a line from the Canadian Prairies through Jasper and Valemount, and down to Kamloops and Vancouver.
The same CNPR company also built a railway on Vancouver Island from the inner harbour gorge area of Victoria, through Sooke area, and up the west side of Shawnigan Lake, across the Kinsol Trestle and on to Lake Cowichan and Youbou, ending at Kissinger Lake which is just west of the west end of Cowichan Lake.
So what does this have to do with this video? The plan for that CNPR railway was to continue building to connect the west end of Cowichan Lake to the Alberni Inlet and Port Alberni area. So they planned the route and graded & blasted it, but never had rails or traffic. The first world war and bankruptcy ended that railway plan. CNPR would be taken over by the new Canadian National Railway in Canada.
I think that some of the unused CNPR grade route between Cowichan Lake and Alberni Inlet would later be used by Alberni Pacific's logging railway, but I'm not sure. But that's likely who built the railway trestle structures which still barely remain.

As always, thanks for this video. I love your work.

As a local, I really enjoy your videos of these cool, nearby places. We've hiked to the first mountain top in stage 1, but it took a few times to find that last section of trail. The first time, there was too much snow, and we've probably gone almost that far at least 3 times, but the steep grade to the water was always a bit off- putting when we don't know how it hard and long it will be... Man, ticks are out already!? I recall starting that second section once, but it had to be a short in and back. How do you set up to return by yourself? Good to know about the river crossing! I never would have thought I'd need a raft! ... it's been at least 5 years since I first heard about the last section being complete, except for a bridge... I wonder when that'll happen? ... Oh, and one more thing ~ if you could do something to improve your audio volume so that the music isn't so loud, then I wouldn't have to turn it up every time to hear what you have to say. Thanks for showing the way! 🚶‍♂️‍➡️🚶‍♀️‍➡️🚶‍➡️
