Thanks bro, mine is the same. I was searching this bitch port like crazy
Oh is a v8 4.8 engine if that help. Thank You
First Thank you for a great video. Hey I got a question. I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra and I replaced the receiver but now i can not find the right harness to attach the receiver to the factory harness. I bought some and they did not work. Can you help me to get the right one . Thank You
Very informative and clear instructions, thank you. I will be changing my Head unit soon and while it currently runs an Android system that is made to look like the original 2006 X5 unit, the one thing that cannot be controlled and is done through the radio is the computer dash display modes. Have you still maintained this function with yours. I am referring to the settings for the two trip counters, the clock and a few other functions that you get each time you press the end of the indicator stalk. Mine just has 2018 date, so I am guessing that was when it was changed, but everything else is impossible to reset. Cheers,
You are a rockstar, best video!
Hey @Ryanwalker6579 I've got a Gen2 Highlander Limited Highlander w/JBL Audio and Navigation. Do you know if a resister is needed for this as well? Every shop is telling me I'm out of luck as soon as I say it has Navigation, Including a really helpful Crutchfield support rep. I've been looking at the Kenwood HU's or even the Enon, Joying, and Atoto S8
Hey @GaryWold I'm not an expert, so this isn't professional advice, but your car sounds exactly like mine....Limited Highlander w/JBL Audio and Navigation, and it worked for me. What year is yours? I'm guessing you'll need the resistor for your navigation system, but it should work.
@@ryanwalker6579 thanks, mine is a 2010. I’m told I’ll miss the hybrid system display. It’s Not that its very useful though.
@@GaryWold I don't know what the 2010 looks like, but if you watch the video, I only removed the stock stereo and replaced it with the double-din stereo. The hybrid system / navigation system display is still in the car.
Helpful spoke clear and the video had good lighting so I could see what you were talking about
Nice work, Ryan. thank you. I am looking to replace the remaining plastic piece, the part you raised up at 2:26. Any ideas? Thanks!
Brother, can you tell me if I don’t install subwoofer on the install backup camera with this stereo what Parts I need for?
I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question. You can still install the stereo without a subwoofer or a backup camera.
The metra part # 70-8116 is listed for 2000-04 year models? 70-8117 is listed for 04 and up? Was this part # correct?
I see what you are saying. You are right. But I did use the 70-8116 and it worked. It was so long ago, I don't remember why I got that one, but like I said, it worked. I would recommend getting both and returning the one that doesn't work. :)
Be nice to hear it working?
That is a valid point. I'm not sure why I didn't record me playing music through the stereo. You can hear the beeping of the volume controls starting at 8:20.
Hi, my BMW is the 2005 X5 E53 with the tuner in the back boot. I have to buy the Aerpro BMW Quadlock Extention (APFH022) to connect the aftermarket head unit to the tuner in the back (underneath the spare tyre). However, while everything is working, there is no sound from the DSP. Not sure if you have any suggestion? Thanks
Hi. I didn't have DSP in my car, but I did some quick research and it sounds like you need to make sure the remote wire (blue) from the head unit is connected to the blue wire on your harness. This remote wire will send power to the DSP amp unit. Without power, the amp won't turn on and you won't hear any sound. Hope that helps!
You are a godsend
Thanks Bud😊
Really detailed video thanks for the help and time mate 👍🏻
Does anyone know why the intermittent lights came on randomly after turning off headlights, opening doors, locking the vehicle with key fob and when is just parked and not using it at all?
Hi Ryan I do not have dsp nor do I want a subwoofer is it simple plug and play?
Sorry I took so long to respond. It's a little more complicated than just plug and play, but if you want the entire video it should lay out everything you need to do. Even easier if you don't care about the volume controls on the steering wheel.
Any info on how to connect the sub. Thnks
I discuss the sub a bit when I'm connecting the harness and such to the back of the head unit. You need to run the RCA cables and blue remote wire from the head unit to the sub amplifier, and then run a wire from the positive post on the battery to the amp, and a ground wire from the frame or negative terminal from the battery to the amp. Then run your speaker wire from the amp to the subwoofer.
Ryan great video and fantastic clean work. One question I have as I’m about to tackle this. Should I have battery disconnected. ? While I install.
Thanks! I honestly don't remember if I disconnected the battery or not, but it's always a good idea when working on anything electrical in the vehicle.
I connected eveything. Screens turns on. Phone connects to Bluetooth. Radio shows up. No sound. Anywhere. I double checked my wired and changed and interchanged them no luck I’m really stuck. And frustrated. There was lots of extra wires in the boss kit I got same as you listed but when you went off screen to wire to wire I lost it. I can’t follow what color went where
@@ason9741 I don't check my messages very often, sorry. Were you able to get your sound working?
I want to go with this route. I have no sound in my BMW. If I connect this will I have sound.. I’ve seen people say they do not have sound. Is it because the amp wire not connected.. what’s missing
I don't know how to help without more information. Are you saying that you don't have any sound with the stock stereo?
That's where mine was, thanks
Awesome work, very involved and detailed. Looks like a lot of work!
Hi would you be able to install a reverse camera and hook it up to the original navigation system?
No, I don't think so.
Hello Mr Ryan such devices doesn't come handy in this part of the world I did like Detailed product name to aid me do an order jst the stereo no amplifyer or woofer,
The "and that's it" at the end is an absolute LOL. This seems very difficult!!! I'm in Melbourne Aus, if anyone knows where I can get this done at a reasonable price please let me know!
95% done with mine I'm in Melbourne too. It's pain to do.. I have same facia plate from Aerpro it doesn't lock the head unit in place 😡
I was quoted $1k just to install a head unit 😂. Unbelievable price
@@surjkooner I have a question what would be the reason if I have an aftermarket radio the same cord and everything is connected no sound. what would be the reason.. I have dsp .. nav screen same as above..
I just installed a new stereo and now the climate control button is not responding saying “check AC connection”. We made sure the ac plug is good but still nothing. Any tips?
I just does did some quick research on your issue, and it sounds like you may have blown a fuse or relay. Start with the AC fuse in the fuse box. Good luck!
Ryan, nice video with outstanding details: I have a few questions: 1. factory amp with sub enclosure in the rear right side boot and amp next to TCU Left side boot. Will the connect from the head unit wiring harness., I will make all wires connect at the head unit. 2. Blue wire signals the amp, factory, or external amp. Where is the breakout in the rear boot located? 3. Do you have any video installed for the rear camera being installed? 4. Can I use the factory mic for this installation? Wood56
Hi Wood. I'm not sure about your first question. I think what you're asking, is if your X5 comes with a factor sub and amp, can you connect it the new aftermarket head unit. My guess would be no, but I don't know for sure. Same with wiring the blue wire signal. If you're wanting to re-use the factory amp and factory sub, I'm not sure where you would connect the blue wire. Sorry! I didn't record the installation for the rear camera because there seemed to be plenty of videos out there on how to do that, but I did record removing the plastic panel on the tailgate to make the installation easier. Here's a link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/W-AHux8mgbM/v-deo.html. Lastly, I don't think you can use the factory mic using the process in my video, but there might be some way to connect it to the head unit that I don't know about. Sorry I wasn't much help.
Hi Ryan my door doesn't open! How can I open it so I can remove the plastics?
Maybe you know the answer to this. I assume that you are not using the Navigation screen balance controls: forward/ rear right/left treble/mid/bass with your amplifier bypass. Is that correct? If I wanted to keep the factory speaker system w/ JBL amp, are there enough RCA ports to feed all the factory speakers and keep the Navigation screen controls? I believe there are 6 speakers from factory. Does that new head unit have 3 channels? or is the factory using only 2 channels?
That’s correct. Once you replace the factory stereo with a new head unit, your balance controls will be done on the new head unit. Watch minute 18:00 to the end of the video. You can use the factory amp, but you’ll need the long harness that runs from the head unit back to the factory amp. I ran it from the after market amp instead and bypassed the factory amp, but you don’t need to do that. There are 8 wires on the harness, 2 for each speaker. So the factory amp actually is a 4-channel amp. Hope that helps!
Is a 2006 the same as a 2005??
I’ll be installing a new head unit on my BMW X5 e53 and I’ll be using your tutorial as a guide. I wish you had shown how to install the camera, but I think this video should help with that. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the video! About to take on this installation myself. With the Hybrid system, I had heard you do not want to exceed a 30 A draw. Does this hold up for our Highlanders? Looking at an amplifier with a 30 A draw and a subwoofer with a built in amp with a 15 A draw.
Sorry, I didn't see your question. My daughter still has this stereo in her Highlander and it has held up just fine.
What does the orange light mean on original x5 e53 radio
How about 2004?
Same
I installed the 5m cable along with brogotek android...it works but there's No sound whatsoever....could it be a short in the speaker wire?
If there was a short in the speaker wire, it would typically just impact one speaker and not all of them. Is your head unit muted? When you press the volume button up and down, does it show the volume changing on the display? Do you have the Axxess steering wheel control interface installed? Sometimes this can cause an issue with the sound.
@@ryanwalker6579 hi I have played with the mute button and control knob but no luck...I've tested the headunit and the headunit is sending power thru speaker wires when the radio is supposed to be play but there is no sound at all....I was wondering...there is a canbus box that comes with the unit but even that is working fine and interacting with the car...
Hi... I have same original system but have the massive black DSP in boot/trunk as well as the Becker BM54 amp... Is it the same set of kit required?
Hi Malc. I'm not sure. There seem to be plenty of other videos for installs with DSP. I made this video because I couldn't find one with no DSP. Let me know if you need help finding one.
Come passare cavo ?
Good video. Nice amount of detail which is missed in others. One question….. is this a “short chassis” head unit or normal depth one? Wondering it there’s similar fitting issues like you get in the e39 and e46.
Thanks! I think it's normal depth. It says the depth of the head unit is 5 5/8" (144mm), which seems normal. I feel like there was plenty of room in the X5 once I pulled out the factory unit.
JBL CD player does not load cd’s. CD does not go in. It’s states no CD and it blinks “wait” when pushing the load button. Radio and tape player works.
Great video bro, you are very knowledgeable. I bought a Pioneer AVIC-6100NEX, can it be installed in a 2006 BMW X5?
Thanks! I think it depends on if you have the navigation system or not. My recommendation would be to go to crutchfield.com and use their website to determine if that stereo will work in your car, and what adapters you might need. Good luck!
❤hi bro my X5 everything was removed so I need to now where to get my connection at the back because I would like to install a amplifier
Thanks a lots bro, a million likes. I went to some hoopties stereo shop, they told me something about creating a module for my GPS to make it work with my dub din pioneer dvd player. They wanted $700, I'm sure they were trying to rip me off. I used an 82 Ohm resistor because I couldn't find 70 either, and I wasn't sure if 100 would be optimal. So I thought 82 is closer than 100. In any case, It's very great you're making these videos to help people like me out. A lot of the people on UA-cam are making videos advertising their abilities and asking people to send the electronics in for repairs and modifications for money. It's very admirable that you're making this video, you make UA-cam more valuable.
Thanks! I'm glad my video helped! I see now that you used the 82 ohm resistor. I think that will work just fine.
@@ryanwalker6579 yeah 82 ohms works perfectly on my 2006 Highlander Hybrid. I imagine between 70 and 100 is what the information monitor looks for. I think more resistance may give you problems if you're 12 volt system is low on power like if you are listening to the radio with the engine off battery gets low, the GPS might start blinking on and off or something. I haven't had any issues thus far, mine is a hybrid Highlander I don't listen to the radio with my car off very often, and the accessory battery doesn't need too much capacity in a hybrid vehicle. I've seen hybrid vehicles with a 12 volt accessory battery as low as 400 cold cranking amps. I actually upgraded mine to 700 cca, a bigger accessory battery can't hurt as long as it fits.
Question. So 100 only work for you, so does that mean anything from 70 to 100 homes will work? Do you think 100 is it a sure shot and I should just use that? Because I found 82 and a 75
I think anything from 70 to 100 ohms will work, but I would use the one closest to 70. So if you have a 75 ohm resistor, I would use that!
I've been looking for a video like this for so long! Thank you Ryan. I'm going to follow your video to do the same soon. My one big question is hardly even related to this content, but when your selecting things on you navigation screen it doesn't make a beeping sound. I've tried my hardest but I cant figure out how to mute button presses! Its been like this since I've bought the car and its driving me crazy since its always at top volume lol. Do you have any advice to do so?
Yes! Go to Settings -> General -> System Tone (turn it off). Hope that helps!
That thing you called the factory amp is the module for the heated seats bib.
🤣😂
So JBL is making modules for heated seats now? It says "LEATHER SEAT" because this amp was made for the Highlander Limited, which has leather seats. If you watch my other video, I unplug the harness from this amp and plug it into a harness that comes from an aftermarket amplifier, which powers the speakers. If you are right, then the speakers are powered by and receive their signal from the heated seats module.
I have 2006 toyota RAV4 limited, n the radio comes on ,but no sound comes out
Very helpful, thanks for taking the time to make this video. Did the sound quality get better after the replacement of the old mic? P.S. I also drop all sort of sh*t between the seat & console 🤣 Big up bro ✌️
This is a lifesaver. Been wanting to do this for years but never had good info on how to do so, or even if it was possible. Do you need to bypass the JBL amp if you are not sending the audio to a separate amp?
Good question. I think you'll still need to bypass the factory JBL amp because the stereo harness (Metra 70-8113) is only used to power the new stereo and no longer sends the signal/music/sound to the factory amp, so the music/sound will no longer get sent out to the speakers. You'll need to connect factory amp bypass harness (Metra 70-8116) to the speaker wires in the back of the new stereo, and then run it all the way back to the connector that you unplug from the factory JBL amp. In other words, the factory amp bypass harness connects the speaker wires on the new stereo to the speakers in the car. The speakers will be powered by the new stereo instead of the factory JBL amp. Hope that makes sense.
Than you for all this inf the resister part was helpful
hey man I have the same radio and everything but my axxess box isnt turning on which wires did you hook the red power and black power up too from the metra 70-8114 ? the radio comes on but my steering wheel controls arent doing anything. i think i might not be hooking them up to the right ones.
The red wire on the Metra 70-8114 connects to the red (accessories) wire on the stereo harness, and the black wire connects to the black (ground) wire on the stereo harness. Hope that helps.
@@ryanwalker6579 thanks man i figured it out , i had to manually set it up to my steering wheel
Thanks i found your video really helpful. Cheers
How did you know you needed to bridge that plug with a 70ohm resistor? That's the first I've heard of that requirement so I'm glad I came across your video. Thanks for taking the time to document this to help others.
I came across the need to use the 70ohm resistor on a forum about this installation. I didn't actually test it without the resistor, so I don't know for sure if it's needed, but I assumed it was.
