#062 - Digital Art - Glass Effect on High Res Images using GIMP 2.10
While modern users of GIMP just use the G'MIC "Water Drop" filter to create a glass effect, this filter behaves differently on high-resolution images; the highlights layer of the glass/water is almost never what you want.
This video demonstrates how to create a glass effect in GIMP 2.10, including a way to create your own replacement highlight layer, very easily and simply.

#61 - Digital Art: the Creation of "Fish Leaping"

This video shows how I took one of my acrylic pour paintings and made it look like a stained-glass window, with the help of some public-domain clip art, and Gimp. I speeded it up, because I didn't think you would want to watch me doing graphical editing for two hours (yes, that is how long the whole editing thing took). If you want ...

    What’s the difference between this type of cord and a knitted icord?

    • @kerravonsen2810
      @kerravonsen2810 9 місяців тому

      With a knitted icord, the cord made is lacy and hollow, because all the loops are the size of the needles used to make them. With a lucet cord, the loops are pulled tightly closed, so the cord is solid and dense, more like knotted cord.

    After several attempts at curing Magic-Glos in the sun, with electric UV lights, etc, I bought the Lisa Pavelka UV light and THAT won't even cure my resin... On polymer clay... Which it's totally advertised to do ON the website. I hate this crap with every fiber of my being, I really do.

      I'm beginning to wonder if they have a quality control problem, given that it appears to work for some people and not others. Because clearly it does work for some people -- expecially works for LP herself when she does demos. Heck, it works for me half the time...

      @@kerravonsen2810 You might just be right! Every time I watch a polymer clay tutorial that involves resin, they use Magic-Glos and it seems to work (wait for it...) like magic (haha). I can follow the tutorials to the nth degree and *if* the resin cures, it's tacky. I thought that perhaps in supposed to use a UV light to activate it and once it sits for a while, it will finish setting. NOPE! Usually, I'd chalk this up to use error but I, too, have run many tests under various conditions and on different surfaces and it just never comes out right. I'm so grateful that you've made this video that let me know I'm not completely nuts, lol.

    • @edithruff224
      @edithruff224 3 роки тому

      @@kerravonsen2810 what I am referring to is sizing. Like crochet hooks & knitting needles coming in different sizes i(14 steel hook- Q hook; 0-25 needles) also the terms fork or prong are they interchangeable when speaking of lucet.

    • @kerravonsen2810
      @kerravonsen2810 3 роки тому

      @@edithruff224 Sizing is not that important with lucets, because the size of the cord depends entirely on the thickness of the yarn/string/thread used to make it with. This is because all the stitches are pulled *tight*, so it doesn't matter how big the size of the initial loop is, therefore it doesn't matter how big the size of the lucet is. That being said, it makes sense to use a larger lucet for larger yarn, and a smaller lucet for smaller yarn, just for ease of use.

    The resin is just fine. Perhaps the items had a small amount of oil or perspiration on them? Maybe just before applying the resin, you could buff them with a very fine spongey file that you get at a shop that deals in beauty products, like Sally's. That is what I use sometimes or put a little alcohol on a cloth and clean any possible oil off your projects. I have used this brand you are using and have had no problems with it. Also if there is high humidity in the room where you are using the resin, that may be a possibility as to why it didn't work this time. Just clean them with alcohol and try again. Another possibility could be that your UV lamps are getting too old, that happened to me so I changed the bulb and it worked just great. Hope this helps. Don't give up, your art is salvageable.

    • @kerravonsen2810
      @kerravonsen2810 4 роки тому

      Most of these points do not explain why it DID work for SOME of the pieces, which were otherwise identical, done with the same paint, cured at the same time, with the same UV lamp.

  • @biffybeans

    I teach resin workshops and I use Magic-Glos extensively in my Resin Jewellery Workshop. We get excellent results with it. But it's actually designed for coating polymer clay. It does a great job of that but Magic-Glos has a compatibility issue with some other mediums. For instance, you can't seal paper with Mod Podge and then use Magic-Glos over the top as it will reliquify the Mod Podge so that the resin dome slides off, just like what is happening with the cabochons from your acrylic pours. I suspect there is something in the acrylic pour that is upsetting the Magic-Glos in exactly the same way. Could it be the flow medium? Or perhaps silicone oil? If you're still having problems with Magic-Glos, write to Lisa. Here's the contact page on her website: www.lisapavelka.com/contact/. She will have the answer for you. I hope you find the solution soon!

    • @kerravonsen2810
      @kerravonsen2810 4 роки тому

      That's interesting, since some people have suggested that I ought to seal my work with Mod Podge! Silicone oil definitely could *not* be the problem, because I never use it.

    • @MyleneHillam
      @MyleneHillam 4 роки тому

      @@kerravonsen2810 I only use Mod Podge to seal items that are going into epoxy resin now. I learned first-hand how the two products are not compatible and I keep my affected pieces close by to remind not to ever use Mod Podge with Magic-Glos again. Lol! Anyway, I reached out directly to Lisa Pavelka about how the domed resin had just slid off and she explained that ModPodge reliquifies under Magic-Glos. She recommends that you use TLS (Translucent Liquid Sculpey) for sealing papers to be coated with Magic-Glos. I'm not sure whether this will work with acrylic paint because it's a bakeable product but it might be worth looking into if you still have a lot of Magic-Glos left. It would be interesting to see if this solution works for you. Good luck with your search for the answer! Myléne milllanestudio.com

      @@kerravonsen2810 I don't know the answer to that one but it sounds like you might have to switch UV resins, or go back to epoxy to cover your pretty cabochons and keep the Magic-Glos for a different project. Good luck with whichever way you go!
