You just don't by WIIM if you have a +$15K high-end system! Same goes the other way around, you don't buy a $3000 dac if your system is below $1000... WiiM are mostly for those who have a sub $3000 (amp/speaker) system!
Hi, I have the Elysian 4's and a big room with a big ceiling. I now have Advance Paris A12 driving the Elysian's and I'm looking for an upgrade in AMP. I know you like the Elysian 4 and what is your advice to go look for. I'm in the Netherlands so not so easy to go to your store, ;)
I only have cd players from the 80s like 40 any one of them I would bet would beat all the ones you are talking about
all that stuff, and they get exited over apple garbage
Yeah, Skylab Audio recently did an AP vs Mc comparo, too. So, I'll mention my same thoughts here: 1) Where is the AP made? Yeah, yeah, designed in France, very cool, but where is it actually made? Doubt it is France.....perhaps People's Republic of (Communist) China? The Mc is made in USA. Which would you be proud to have in your home? 2) The Mc can be kept running into the future, with or without Mc factory support. The AP has a digital section. In 3-5 years, the spare parts boards will be depleted and the specialized, SMT uP parts that were used will no longer be available. Boat anchor. 3) Mc supplies full service docs, I bet you don't have access to the AP docs. Probably only their factory repair center (1 or 2 in the USA?) will have any service documentation. Go with the Mc for the long game, and for the provenance.
Ding - Ding - Ding, we have an answer: AP made in China. $3800 for an A12?!? Maybe if it were made in France, hell no if made in PR(C)C!
Why spend more on a streamer if we all use an exstenal DAC. Why don't reviewers talk more about it's streaming quantity the same way we would for a cd transport. Too much talk about features. If you guys are really into hifi at least wait until you have heard the product. Then perhaps do a blind ab with a more expensive product and run both threw the same DAC. Then make a video to tell us how they compare as pure streamers.
Where is the video catalog where you would show audio equipment and play music?
Well, using the Wiim Pro Plus (transport only, not using built-in DAC) with a linear PSU get's you up to a _really_ high level. A level where you would be very hard pressed to _actually hear_ a difference.
Why are there so many Mcs for sale in the used market?
Good question: I suspect the main reason is that the well-healed Boomers that bought them in the 60/70/80s are now either downsizing or dying, i.e. estate sales. I'm seeing so many posts on the hi-fi FB groups bragging about the great Mc gear they "scored" for peanuts. It's the Big Boomer sell off.
@@richardmarshall6751 I have never seen it for "peanuts" anywhere.
The fact that you compare a 300$ budget device with ultra high end devices shows how good it can be
Heavy D, is that you?
Some people don’t like the look of accuphase? Are those just blind people?
I like it alot however the cream color does not match any decor in my house and sticks out in an audio rack compared to the silver's and black's we normally have.
@@CaBdosdos maybe a nice wood audio rack would help? Since wood has a warmer tone too? I guess maybe I’m less picky on overall gear matching my actual room. Esp as I like walnut furniture which I think works well with the accuphase look
The SoundDock's don't work without the remote. Bose does sell them on their site for only $14.00
I always liked this kind of videos. unboxing old stuffs and testing it if still works. 😊😊
I totally disagree based on years of listening to several DVD and Blu-ray players used for cd players. I have panasonics, Harmon pardon, samsung sacd player used for cd, even a JVC cd player capable of sacd but not used for that. These sound really good. Maybe it's the Pioneer SX850 going into supercharged C40 Harkness Designs but they sound to my ears, very dang good. Others have heard them and remarked at how good they sound. I was seriously thinking of dropping $1k on a Marantz or Pioneer but told myself NO. What I have is very good.
Would Tom bet his house on a blind listening test? Is build quality really a factor wrt longevity and even audio quality - come on put your house where your mouth is. (or where your ears are) I admit that I like the feel of the more expensive stuff too. But aren't the dynamics of kick drums are more likely felt at the power amp rather than the streamer / pre amp. What do I know.
Fun-Fi for one may be an upgrade for another. I can see it appealing to younger people that live a digital lifestyle, and to those that never streamed before and want to dip their toes into streaming music. I’m on a limited fixed income now, and this is a tempting option to add to my stereo rig. Btw, that Cambridge Audio CXN100 is a good-looking streamer. I like the sound of Cambridge gear. If not the Ultra, I’d go for the AXN10. That would fit nicely with the rest of my mid-fi system. Interesting points in video. Thanks 👍🏼🎶😎
Bad choice of music to judge anything by. How about ZZ Top or Blood Sweat And Tears😊
The Technics SU-R1000 and Yamaha S3200 ? Are they comparable?
Ciao ragazzi , per quello che si può percepire da un video ,anche se ho ascoltato attentamente con le mie cuffie shenaizer, il piccolo Accuphase mi sembra più chiaro con una gamma bassa meno invadente... Ciao bel video...
lots of fun, do that again
Sales video not a review.
Just moved from Yamaha A-S1200 to Accuphase e280. Man, what a jump. This is a piece of jewellery. Better tighter bass, fuller sound, sweeter tone, more clarity, significantly better low volume performance, and better build. Yamaha is great and I thought I was done until I got e280. My fav is loudness compensation- makes it sing even at 45db.
I have the as2200 and before I had the 1100. Amazing amps. I recently ordered the m5000 and the c5000. I believe it matches so well with my ATC smc40. Looks like the market perception on Yamaha is way bellow what Yamaha deliveres. To me they are on par with Luxman and accuphase.
You should try room correction with REW. Will make a bigger difference than dacs and most respectable amps. Come on man you're an audio UA-camr, learn about room correction. Then you talk about funfi and don't do room correction? 😅
they just wanna trash it cause it's less expensive with no other justificaiton.
Good Day as an influential audio reviewer can you please call attention to the fact that WiiM removed AirPlay casting (the feature that allows you to send what’s playing on the WiiM to HomePods) with the latest firmware update and forum posts referencing this “upgrade” keep disappearing. It worked reliably and was also the reason I pre-ordered a WiiM Ultra for another room. Thanks.
Using good earbuds, I heard more presence with the Accuphase. The music just became more alive and engaging.
Longevity in a streamer😵💫 It will be obsolete in 3 years anyway. Might as well spend the money on a quality DAC instead of an overpriced streamer with a useless screen. Ps “Fun-Fi”🙄 - what an arrogant way to degrade a product you haven’t even listened to yet🙈 Is this ZZ Top’s goofy cousins Snob-Fi channel?🤷♂️
'but wouldn't the dac you suggest buying become obsolete also?
Accuphase sounds over controlled with a overdone feedback loop. The Luxman sounds more relaxed and is an amp I could live with. If in the Nighted States, I would go with something McIntosh or Decware (two years waiting list, I ordered one), if in Europe I would check out the Sugden A21SE (SS single ended class a) or the Sugden A21 AI if you want more like a tube characteristic and MM/MC phono. I own a Sugden A21SE. I run LEAK Sandwich 250 and 200 speakers - the vintage ones. LEAK Sandwich speakers are just in another league. Sugden has also a TDA1543 non-oversampling DAC -Sugden DAC-4 masterclass - with a gorgeous output stage, which works nicely with the Sugden Amps and the LEAK speakers. I respect the Klipsch Forte and Cornwall speakers and if I had the space and money I would check them out with single ended tube electronics. As for an affordable budget system, I would go with a MHDT Paradiese DAC (TDA1543), a vintage McIntosh 1700 receiver and vintage LEAK speakers. In the USA, there are vintage THE FISHER tube amps and receivers often sold cheap, with the will to pay a technician when something tube goes wrong, that is a valid alternative.
so you want me to compare the sound using different speakers?
The most annoying person I have watched in a review....
At some point a second goat comes along...... He at least has a bit more modest voice.....
Keep on screaming!!! Now that is so annoying....... You sound like your goatee....
I toured the McIntosh factory in 2014. Their dedication to quality and service is king. They can restore or repair any component they make or made regardless of age. They also have a so-called unaffiliated sister store in a town not far away from their factory that has the used equipment for sale that has been serviced. It’s called Audio Classics in Vestal New York. No foreign manufacturer can beat that.
Thanks, I loved how you guys were surprised hearing Kef Reference 1s thinking they were Cornwall 4s. Yeah Kef Reference 1 are that good and I have always been back and forth and this helps a lot! Forte in the beginning were good but Ref 1 are another level. 👌
Dealers should ban Accuphase until they can get in line with the Japanese imports prices that are HALF! Of US Retail!!!
same for luxman
How do you think those intergrated amps stack up with the rotel michi X5 S2? Roughly the same price point. Keep up the stellar work and rock on!!!!
Thanks Manny! Haven’t tried the Rotel to be able to compare :(
Am I the only one who thinks this amp looks like a white van special😂
Luxman all day long. Depth and attack
I liked Accuphase’s bass and ups and mids of Yamaha. To get both, I’d buy Yamaha and use those awesome tone controls to boost the bass a bit 😊. Yamaha sounded more like a clearer pane of glass and more liquid and Accuphase more warm. This Yamaha voicing confuses folks giving them a false impression that it is lean in the bass but that is just the way they naturally voice it. Just bumping the bass will offer more bass without changing the sound.
"Mighty bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!" Four minutes in to this video and that memorable line from John Wayne's "True Grit" wouldn't stop reverberating in my ears. Four minutes of total BS from a guy who hasn't even held this device in hand, let alone listened to it! My advice: find an audio reviewer who A) owns, and has listened to the device he claims to be reviewing and B) isn't wearing a Wrestlemania t-shirt. FAKE doesn't cut it here.
Going to get one or the other need help.. Wiim Ultra or eversolo dmp a6, Wiim or eversolo ?
I’d go with the one that has the features you need if your budget allows for either
I’ll take (and did) the Luxman. Cleaner, more controlled bass, excellent built in phono stage, far more micro detail, and Luxman are less stingy than accuphase on power / current delivery. The only accuphase I liked was my old E-550, because the class A was just a bit more transparent and musical than their bigger solid state amps.
Not surprisingly since they are both owned by the same company, they look a lot like the Linton’s but with silver instead of black on the grills and stands. I would definitely like to hear them compared to the Lintons. The Lintons are a little relaxed on the high end, so I’m wondering if these are a little more focused in that area. I’m also guessing they are a little taller than the Lintons.
Sorry, Luxman is the McIntosh of Japan and the phono stage is included. Accuphase is so over priced in North America it’s criminal.
Sorry ZZ Top, I thought I as going to see a proper review
Thanks I thought I look sharp dressed
@@ThatGuyWithTheBeard Sense of humour to! keep it up dude..
I prefer the Yorx CD Pal which is one of the cheapest CD players made in the 1980s. It is missing a lot of features but it works. It can't play all CDs but is still decent despite poor build quality.
Based on the poor audio quality of the video I’m not sure you can justify criticizing a product you have not really listened to. Rework it and try again.
At lease you have a big box to go to the dump with. Win there.
That’s what I’m saying!
Hey from Australia. Might be a silly question, but will the Yamaha 3200 power the Wharfdale Elysian 4’s or with speakers like them do you need to start getting power amps involved? I’m running a NAD 3050 with the Wharfdale Lintons, and just wondering the next step up? Understand Elysian 4s are a big step up, however does the amp step up need to be as big?
Yamaha would be fine!
Look at the dovedales as well
