The Battle Over Lithium: What's Really Happening at Thacker Pass
The battle over American lithium has its epicenter in the remote desert of Northern Nevada, where a mining company has laid claim to possibly the largest lithium deposit in the world. Two consecutive presidencies have pushed to mine the mineral for electric car batteries and green energy initiatives, and after a decade of legal battles, the mine is now moving forward. But it will have a major impact on thousands of people who live nearby, including Native American tribes who consider the land sacred. This series explains what exactly is happening at Thacker Pass, including the previously untold stories of those who will feel its impact the most; some who are still fighting the mine, and others who are making the best of it.

Nevada gained its statehood based largely on mining income during the Civil War. But today, its citizens are still dealing with a major problem left behind from that the mining boom: toxic heavy metals in the water, land, and wildlife. And while thousands of people, including those on tribal reservations, live and play in areas deemed contaminated by the federal government, most have no idea. I...

The problem is high levels of mercury; a legacy left over from the mining boom that spurred Nevada's statehood in the 1860s. Today, thousands of Nevadans, including residents on tribal land, could be at risk. In this speci...

Our rendition of the state song for #NevadaSings!
Let the gold dregers in and pay them for getting the Mercury out.
Very well done series. Convinced me to start dollar cost averaging into LAC stock. This is a long term project and a long term investment.
Even the thought that the land considered "sacred" by natives would hinder the future of US manufacturing is insane. The future of the US's independence is infinitely more important than some pagan belief, it's actually absurd discourse is even heard on this.
Bet they wouldn't have a problem putting an Indian casino there!

Thanks for covering this.
ALPHA female!!!
Well, Nevada may be contaminated with mercury but it's got Arianna Bennett so who cares! I'd bathe in a tub of mercury everyday to have a woman like you! Your husband is the luckiest man alive!
Thank you, Beautiful
The girls take away, "never gamble what you can't afford to lose!" is the one rule I follow in life. The other is, "Nothing stays the same, good times or bad. Plan for both!"
OMG check out the news anchor guy's neck. The body snatchers have arrived and taking over the news networks... :( no wonder we can't trust the news. :)
He always knew when to gamble. He started by buying a property in San Diego long ago. He bid a million $$ & then went to lunch! I know this because he’s my cousin. He was always mindful of his dad’s sisters, one of which was my mother. He kept his promise to his dad & cared for them, financially. He’s a great guy.♥️
Incredible!!
I remember watching this when it first aired and really liked seeing it again. Great job and congratulations on the Edward R. Murrow Award.
