Did we make a BIG mistake in Capitol Reef National Park?
I’m saving this video. The Park Ranger teaching Hawaiian vowel sounds was so interesting. Lots of good content!!
We were only hoping he'd pronounce the name for us so we would know if we were even coming close to saying it properly and got SO much more! It was super cool of him to give us so much of his time. But we have found that most park rangers are that way...very generous and even chatty if you give them a chance! This is, seriously, one of our favorite spots in the whole world. Thank you for spending your time with us!
16th AVE, not ST...there is also a 16th ST!
Yeah, I don't know how many times I corrected him...finally just put it on the screen 😅 Can't wait to go back and find more! Any tips?
Thanks. Nice free trip to San Fran. Love the place when some one else is driving.
It's always fun to find new places that are super cool!
FIRST COMMENT!!
I watch as much video of Mukuntuweap as I can and I am constantly amazed at the giant mountains and deep valleys I see. I did not think this park would be so big. One of the really freaky scenes is the ones coming out of that first tunnel. It's scary how high, and how close, those vertical walls are. I'm thinking if a 6 or 7 earthquake hits would those giant walls come down??? I hope next year my wife and I will travel I40 to Vegas and then up the I15 Virgin River Gorge to Mukuntuweap then on to the other parks in Utah. Probly a 2wk trip but it will be well worth it, especially Bryce and Arches NPs.
I'm not a fan of tunnels but it was worth it! I hope you enjoy this whole series on the Grand Circle. Each NP is simply amazing!
I’m going to have to take a road trip for some brisket.
Absolutely!! We seriously stack everywhere else against this place and nowhere has beat it yet!!
This was wonderful. We love the Steinbeck Center. Travels with Charlie is honest and truly my favorite book of all time. Great insights. It led me to sit down and read nearly all of his writings. Thank you for sharing this.
It's a great place to work!
This was a wonderfully thorough tour of an excellent museum. It really is worth a visit. I call it “the Jurassic Park of Steinbeck, … they spared no expense!” A worthy tribute and a great video.
It really is a jewel!
my favorite book was `Travels With Charlie`. Enjoyed that. Thanks for the tour.
It's a tie for me between that and Cannery Row!
If you search Google for “Clay Jenkinson Travels with Charley,“ he is following Steinbeck‘s route.
Oh my goodness, this is your best vlog yet!! I found this quite interesting. Thank you for sharing this wonderful armchair tour.
Thank you! Obviously I love my work. I think people think the museum is all about his books and don't realize it's really about the man. It's a truly special place!
Otters are so cute.
We just love them!!
This zoo is NOT in Monterey, it's located on the outskirts of Salinas ca.
Exactly! It would be more accurate if they called it the Monterey County Zoo instead!
We really enjoyed the safari tour. We did a video to, but I feel like you did a way better job painting a picture of what it was like. Awesome job.
Awww, Thank You! Glad you had fun hanging out with us. Can't wait to see where you go next! Our next up is the National Steinbeck Center. I have some behind the scenes stuff to share! Hope you guys are coming to Street Fair on the 21st! So much new stuff is opening there in the next few weeks!
Watermelon 😊
They are SO good, right?! Thanks for hanging with us!
Two interesting tidbits about the Cannery Row sculpture. First, the models were friends of the sculptor, Steven Whyte. Second, the plaque on the sculpture is actually a door that leads inside.
How cool! I never knew!
The aquarium isn’t cheap, but if you are local enough to take advantage of the membership, it’s a bargain! The hardest part is being inside when you know how beautiful it is outside!
We were members for several years. Unfortunately the rates raised WAY over what we can comfortably pay. Still, being a local means at least one free admission per year!
Thank you for another enjoyable adventure. Just wondering how boaters get to their boat with sea lions right there on dock. Are they aggressive?
It's fairly easy to get around them and they will usually flop back into the water but you wouldn't want to get aggressive with them. They weigh over 600lbs and it's mostly muscle. We were not terribly disappointed to have to go twice! LOL!
@@travelingcatphotos Thanks for answering my question. I definitely wouldn’t mind going twice!
My first trip there is a very good memory. Grandson and also his friends birthday parties in the picnic area. Then we all walked the Zoo. The Rose tigers were amazing. I had been in a lot of zoos across this country but never seen one before.
The big cats are definitely a draw here. We'd like to go back for Crunch Time or to stay at the B&B in the future as a treat!
We went about 5 years ago and it was just starting it's renovations. Looks like they did a lot and added so much! I think we need to go back!
We were so happily surprised. We really love the way that they made it so interactive with the QR codes!
We have to check this out. Have never been here.
The kids would LOVE it! The QR thing is a bit dodgy because of the internet out on River Road but if you just take photos of the signs you can still look them up later. Thanks for hanging with us!
Nice review. Thanks for visiting! There is much much more to Roaring Camp than you knew or explained. I suggest that people read about the place before arriving. The types of geared locomotives in operation, the spiral trestle, the beginnings of the place, the Mark Twain story, the SAME family owner and operator since opening. The conductor narrates the ride and can answer almost any question. EVERY child loves this place, 3 through 12 will be enamored, and always will hold a place in their heart for whom brought them here. Yes, the tickets appear to be costly for some. You will enjoy this life experience. Standing beside a live locomotive, peering into the firebox, the sounds, vibrations, smells, a fully encompassing experience. Ask about the engine house, sometimes a friendly mechanic will let you see things working. Go AGAIN, ride the desiel electric locomotive to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk! Read about their Moonlight dinner train! AND music venue events! Spring through early fall, a wedding booked almost every Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Midweek are less crowded.
LOVE this comment! I'm really into trains so I learned a LOT there but we know that not everyone is as geeky as I am about them so our goal was just to draw attention and try to show how beautiful it is so that the train fans would go and see them! We really loved this place and think the ticket price is totally worth it! I didn't know about the Moonlight Dinner Train! GOTTA do that one! Thank you SO much for all of this information! It's Awesome!
@@travelingcatphotos since you love trains, be sure to visit the Sacramento museum, and James Railroad. Both excellent in our state.
Don’t know if you’ll see this comment since your video was posted months ago, but I’m enjoying your videos. I didn’t know about the Vanillerie. (Spelling?). We come to Big Island every year or two and there is always something new to discover. Thank you!
Thank you! We are always looking for new places to see in Beloved locations. The Vanillarie was a great find! Hope you get to visit it on your next trip. Do you have a tip for us? Thanks for hanging out with us!
@@travelingcatphotosit looks like you stayed at the Kona Reef. That’s where we always stay as it’s a perfect location and has a nice pool and it just feels like home ther so I recommend it. We like day trips to the East side and always make sure now to have a full tank of gas going on the Saddle Road as there is no service along the way. One time we were praying we would have just enough gas to coast into Hilo which we did.
Hope you get the chance to watch the whole Hawaii series. There's just so much to see and do there!
I live on Big Island. Did you get a chance to see Sanctuary?
We did not...please tell us more!!
Loved the mermaid sculpture!! Looks like a fun place. Can you just go, even if you don't drink wine? Are kids able to go or is it 21+?
They are both kid and dog friendly! There were plenty of non-alcoholic options as well!
I always enjoy your adventures. What a nice place to visit!
That makes us very happy! We make these films for all of you guys out there who enjoy them! Thanks for supporting us!
I visited this place twice and totally enjoyed it. I rode both trains. As I am a European this is every bit an experience. On one occasion there was a steam engine event. The other time a reenactment of the civil war. Also quite enjoyable.
I love "modes of transportation" but am especially fond of trains. We had learned about Narrow Gage Railways at our local train museum in Salinas so it was fun to actually go ride one and learn a bit more about them. I've ridden the trains in Italy and in the UK...any you think we should make sure to ride on our next visit? Thanks for hanging out with us!
I have two favorites…Buttered Popcorn and Juicy Pears!
You hit on our 2 favorites!! Love them!
Carmel Apple and Popcorn....
I'm not sure if I've ever had the Caramel Apple before! Yum!
At one point, they had a Pineapple Pear flavor that was my favorite. Now my favorite is Juicy Pear or Dr. Pepper!
Their Pina colada is pretty good too!
Classic cherry jelly belly is my fave!
Harry's pretty fond of those too!
I think juicy pear might be my favorite jelly belly flavor. It’s an underrated flavor.
That's mine too!!
9:08 This lovely Douglas Fir (not a Redwood!) would be a teenager if it were human.
These trees fascinate me! We were just introduced to Ponderosa Pines up in Washington...I love their bark! SO much to learn about them. Thanks for hanging out with us!
Came across another one of your videos looking for something else so I took a break and watched. I can't get over how well you've narrated everything with lots of details Cat. I've never been here before and after watch this.. I'm definitely adding this place to my Local Cali bucket list! Keep up the great work You and Harry are doing sharing your experiences to all these great places and Thank You!!
Thanks for hanging out with us and your kind words! We are really enjoying the process of learning more about a place as we visit and it was fun and surprising to do the same about our own town! Hope you stop by and hang out with us again!
The history of Cannery Row is really interesting.
It's always fun playing tourist in your own town but really fun when you learn something new about it!
Oooh. That ride looks amazing!!! Going to have to take the family soon! Such a fun tour!
We were SO surprised that it was so much fun!
The hot chocolate is the very best I have ever drank. If you get there do not miss it. I live in Salinas just a few miles away and the area is so beautiful.
Ghirardelli is a fun shop to visit while on the Row!
Hello from Waikoloa Village Hawaii! Loved this armchair travel adventure.
Oooo, we LOVE Waikoloa Village! Glad we could bring a bit of our home to Hawaii and your home!
Mahalo for the Beautiful Adventure!
Thanks for joining us! It's fun to play Tourist in your own town!
What time did you need to get in line?
We had a 9am reservation on a weekday so we got in line around 8:30. It still took us about an hour in line to get in!
Thanks! Would you say there’s a lot to see for people who can’t/don’t want to hike? It’s going to be too hot & I’ll have my 2 year old with me so hoping we can see a decent amount of stuff from the road or a short walk to a view point. We were only able to snag a 10 am spot.
@@sondraxcore Absolutely! It is SO visually stunning and you can even see the Arches right from the road. In fact you can see all of the arches in the Windows section from the parking lot. It's super crowded so I'd make that my first stop should we go again! Just remember that while they do have restrooms along the way, they don't have water along the way. Pack your lunch and drinks in a cooler before you go and you'll be ok.
We LOVE Knott’s!! When we were living in Southern California we would go there once a week. The history of the park is so fun and the food is amazing!!! Love this video. Brings some special memories back.
I grew up down there but haven't been to the Park since I was 8! We went for Harry's 60th last year and decided we loved it and wanted to return for this festival! Such a good move too! Yummy!
Awesome video! Knotts Berry Farm should be paying you guys to promote this festival and their park! Well done!!!
We wouldn't turn it down if they offered! LOL! We really love this theme park and even tho' it was very crowded the food was VERY good! Worth the trip!
Awesome episode, I haven't been since 1979
When we visited for Harry's 60th we saw a flyer for the Food Fest and decided we wanted more of Knotts and definitely more berries! So much fun, even for those like me who don't do rollercoasters!
Heyo! I started working here about two weeks after this video was uploaded, so it's been a little over a month so far, and I'm enjoying it. Glad you stopped by and enjoyed it. I have some suggestions for anyone who wants to come by: book in advance to guarantee you a spot on the train, try out the gold panning ($10 per pan, unless you get 4, then it's $25 total), and if you are planning on taking the 10 am beach train, get the 5-hour layover-you get more bang for your buck. If you’re getting food at Georgie's, get the grilled chicken sandwich-it's good.
Great tips!! We are Definitely coming back for the Beach Train! It really was such a good day there!
We’re planning a trip right now to go there soon from Fresno. I’ve always thought panning for gold could be fun to try. Is there any chance we’ll actually find some? Is it real or is it staged so everyone finds a little? I mean is it in a river or is it in a tank and it’s just to show people how it’s done? Either way could be fun. I’m just curious what to expect. Thanks!
@@travelingcatphotoswould you say there’s enough to do there to make it worth visiting even if you don’t plan to ride the train?
We didn't pan for the gold but, from what I hear, there's always a chance you will find a little! As for going without riding the train? If you take advantage of the trails then yes. The state park right next door is gorgeous and lots of other things like the arts and craft station at the Camp would still make it worth the parking fee!
@@travelingcatphotos thank you for the response. Is the state park included in the entry to Roaring Camp or would we need to pay for both?
Yum! I'm hungry now 😂
RIGHT?! We had no idea how good the food would be! And it's a LOT of food per serving too...easy to share!
Dang it! Now I need to eat and go find some berries...Great info...Thanks for sharing.
We loved everything we ate and we definitely didn't need two cards...sharing everything really worked!
i camp at Sonoma alot, but not for NASCAR. good tips, one thing i would add is to bring a small set of wheels to travel to different locations on the raceway. not sure if they allow personal motorized vehicles for nascar events, but they allow them at the sonoma events i camp at. i highy recommend a pit bike, e-bicycle, or e-scooter. if you're going with a family / lots of people then a golf cart is a good investment. first few events i went to i had to walk and wait for the shuttles to the parking lots at the top of the hill and it was the worst. as i always try to tell people: racetracks are designed for cars! not foot traffic. having to walk around the track my least favorite part, especially with the hills of laguna and sonoma in the summer. you get such a better experience if you can drive yourself around to different viewing spots
Possibly if you are parked inside. We've seen people on their bikes inside but not going to or coming from the 50 Acre lot. I'd say that if they allow it for other events there, then it's just a matter of time before it's OK at NASCAR.
@@travelingcatphotos i dont think they allow it specifically at nascar is because there's too many people its such a big event. i've almost crashed into a few people on my e-scooter and the events i go to aren't anywhere as close to packed as nascar. i can imagine how crazy it would be if there were a thousand people on motorized vehicles
My patient has been enjoying watching your videos with me when I come in to work. He says he wished he traveled more when he had the chance but at least he can see things through you and your videos ❤
