Spending 2 Hours in Caye Caulker, Belize | Speed Run
Caye Caulker is an ideal base for the beautiful Belize Barrier Reef. I'll take you on a tour of the island so you know what to expect if you visit.
Caye Caulker, Belize is a small island but big enough that most people will confine themselves to a 500m stretch and miss out on the rest of the island. Let me give you a glimpse of the rest of the island by taking you on a tour around the island, and show you how to do the same yourself!
This is an ideal way to get away from the crowd and explore the island in the shortest time possible.
Discover Caye Caulker by running in turbo mode around the island from the docks outside of Ice and Beans Cafe clockwise via the main street, Caye Caulker Ferry Terminal, the eastern shores, east end of the airport, the quieter southern shores, the west end of the airport, Xocol Street, Caye Caulker Airport, Avenida Mangle, the Caye Caulker sign, Tarpon feeding dock, The Split, the Lazy Lizard and back to Ice and Beans Cafe for a nice meal and coffee.
Follow my 4.7-mile run sped up to a 50 miles per hour pace. Explore the sights along the way on a beautiful tropical morning, and feel the size of the island as I'm not skipping any step along the way.
Join me so you can tour the island, relax, and learn a bit about this special island.
Play along for a island tour, or run along your treadmill and explore with me!
Skip ahead to these sights with the timeline below.

I would absolutely climb the cables with a harness and a tether with clip i dont care if I have to re clip at every pole I'd rather be secure to the cables and therefore at least if I slip or anything I'm not falling off

People are rational with the other known ways to die. Like guns. Great White Sharks. Explosives. Hurricanes. But the mortal risk with heights, not enough people are scared. More people are afraid of Bigfoot, than they are of falling off this mountain. I've seen it! And what do they do if a hornet swarm goes after them up there? Call a cop?

Hiked to sub dome in 1969 or 70; not early enough to summit. Did Yosemite falls; no water flowing, crawled out & spit off from near vertical position, as it's a big long curve! Couldnt turn around, so inched up backward on fingers & toes! Yikes!

It looks as though the ‘steps’ up to sub dome are worse than the cables? It’s hard to tell how steep it is. You should have looked down. Would a fall during that part of the trail be potentially deadly? My balance isn’t what it used to be.

Great video! I completed this hike about a month ago and enjoy watching videos like yours to relive it. Unlike you, I did not use a harness/via ferrata lanyard, but I will if I do this or another similar hike again. As you mentioned, and I agree, I'm more concerned about others not harnessed and the potential of them falling and taking me out in the process. If I'm harnessed in, I'm protected in the event this happens. This scenario crossed my mind once I was on the cables, BUT, that's a little too late, right! :) Another thing I would do differently is purchase and bring (as recommended by the National Park info) a water filter so I could refill my water bladder and bottles at the various rivers/streams along the trail. I brought 5 liters of water and felt that was plenty, but I ran out 3/4 of the way back and was dehydrated by the time I reached the end of the trail and the water fountains. I promptly bought a Sawyer Squeeze and it was a blessing to have and use on a following hike I did on my trip. Lastly, given the elevation gain, I recommend having and using trekking poles. They help with balance (especially on sub dome), engage your upper body so you can assist your lower body and help out greatly on the descent by reducing the stress on your knees and other joints!

Thanks for the comment! Yes all the gear can be found in Chamonix and are at a reasonable price. It's not going to be the dirt cheap on sale types, but I wouldn't stress paying a good price for a quality pair which would be available in the main streets of Chamonix.
