My instinctive archery journey
Instinctive archery - Return to the Vossenack 3D parcours
this summer we returned with our club 'De Maandagschutters' to the German 3D course in Vossenack. It was a very hot day with temperatures around 35° Celsius. But we had fun annyway and we were happy to be shooting 3D again in the forrest since all organized 3D shoots were cancelled due to Covid-19.

a visit to this nice 3D course in Vossenack, Germany. Not very big but plenty of targets to shoot, -50, and some of them self made and looking really awesome. Definitely worth a visit! www.bogengemeinschaft.eu/vereinsgelände-parcours/

I think this is what archery means to me in, just flinging arrows at some targets, enjoying the outdoors together with some friends.. Okay, maybe a beautifull course in some great scenery and some mountains in the background would add some awesomeness to it but in all it's basic it just comes down to having fun!

Instinctive archery - my new mental coach!
Lots of people get it wrong, instinctive shooting is similar of shooting a gun from the waist, feeling by instinct where your gun is pointing, if you bring your gun up to your eye, that's aiming directly.
So you used aluminium L profiles to hold the bearings, nice. Thanks for the idea.
I smell dutch
Are the limb veneers spalted maple? That is a sweet looking bow. South builds some beautiful bows. I plan to get one this year even though I build my own it would be nice to have a stalker stickbow...
It's figured myrtle for the veneers, great shooting bows. South makes small masterpieces. Thanks for watching!
Hi! Can u please name equipment from your bow I have the same one, and can’t find a right viewfinder. Thank u very much
Fain 3D Parcours !!!
Hi Name of errows plase
These are the Penthalon hunter extreme arrows from Bearpaw.
Does brace height matter on this style bow?
Yes, brace height always matters on a bow. For a recurve around 8" is a good starting point. You can then tune lower or higher depending on your draw length, bow characteristics,... to find the sweet spot.
Thank you for your video. I am just a beginner. Because for my case I don't have time to aim, instinctive shooting is my only option. Would you kindly tell me how long it takes to get 4-INCH group at 20 yards for instinctive shooting? Thank you very much.
Thank you for watching! About your question, that's hard to tell. I guess it depends on how much and how you practice. I always advice to start close, like 5 yards or so when you start shooting instinctive. It's easier for your brain to learn. You can work your way back once you have consistent grouping. Work on form to, a good and consistent form will make your groups smaller! Don't shoot hours at a time, better to shoot 15-20 minutes each day than 2 hours twice a week. There are some great YT-channels with lot's of advice on instinctive archery, Wolfie Hughes, Grizzly Jim, Jef Cavanagh,... I learned a lot from their video's. But most of all, have fun! Best of luck Grts Peter
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 Thank you very much!
What fletchings are those?? And how are you liking the stalker bow?
These are 3" shield feathers. The Stalker is an amazing bow, both in performance and esthetics! 😉 South makes real masterpieces! Thanks for watching!
Great shooting mate. And looks like one sweet bow
A beautiful bow, hope you enjoy it. Stay safe my friend. God bless you 🙏.
Still enjoying this beautiful bow yes, thanks for watching!
Good video. Your form looks fairly consistent. Shoot well my friend. God bless you 🙏.
Thank you for watching and your feedback! 👍🏻🏹
bello!!
Thanks for the reply!
Is this bow matted finish or semi gloss ? Thanks much .. ive just ordered one
It's mat finish, congrats on your purchase, South makes amazing bows. I hope the waiting game won't be to long! 🤞🏻 and thanks for watching!
Hi. What kind of engine is this ?
The engine comes out of an old sewing machine. Thanks for watching.
Love the bow, quiver and arrows. I have one huge problem with the video, and it is the title. This is NOT instinctive shooting. Those who say otherwise have no clue what instinctive shooting is.
Let me guess, because I hold to long at anchor? 😅 For me, instinctive shooting is an aiming method, not an archery form style. I know almost every instinctive archer snap shoots, draw back and release. I used to shoot like that for years and it only gave me target panic! And it took me years to fight that and I'm finally at the point I can draw back again, anchor and stay at anchor while I focus on the spot I want to hit. That is my personal take on 'instinctive archery' and I believe that 'archery form' should be the same wether you shoot a long bow, bare bow, olympic recurve, compound,.... but again, that is my personal opinion. And that's the great thing about archery, you take 100 archers and you'll see 100 different styles of shooting! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! 👍🏻🏹
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 i 100% agree with you here mate
Really good looking bow! Can you tell me what kind of wood is used in Riser and limbs?
Thanks, the woods are Claro Walnut (darker wood) and figured Myrtle for the lighter wood. South Cox makes excellent bows and are fantastic shooters! Thanks for watching!
great targets we never see in canada. enjoyed. thank yew.
good sports. a medieval town for a course is unique for me. really enjoyed. thank yew. good shooting. have fun
enjoyable movie. nice country. looks like canada. good course. thank yew. good shooting.
Getting ready to shoot arrows with you?
Erg mooie bogen, ik heb nu ook al een tiental bogen maar de Mohawk BLS is de volgende op de lijst! Hou je gezond en shoot straight, groeten vanuit de Ardennen.
Nice video thx, where was this? Kind regards from the Belgian Ardennes! Yves. Sbbed and liked!
This was in the Neatherlans, a 3D shoot organised by a local archery club. Before Corona there were 3D shoots like this almost every weekend in Holland and we visit a few of them each year. Hope we can continue to do this when everything is back to normal so i can create some more content. Thanks for watching and subscribing! 👍🏻👍🏻
As an instinctive snap shooter, the amount of time you hold at full draw, makes me uncomfortably anxious lol.
He does not shoot instinctively.
All being well, things will get back to normal this Summer :)
Let´s hope so! Thanks for watching and your feedback!
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 Back to normal here, are you guys managing to shoot?
@@smitbar11 we're able to train again with just a few restrictions. Last weekend I went to a 3D shoot which was held at a fruit farmers range. It was great to shoot outdoors again even if it wasn't in the forest. And now winter is slowly kicking in there aren't many organized 3D shoots so we'll have to be patient until next spring and hope we'll be able to enjoy archery again under normal conditions. And make some new videos off course!! Thanks very much for the update and for hanging in, I really, really appreciate it! 👍🏻👍🏻🏹
2:32 😍😍
Can you add a compound/hunting sight on it?
Not sure to be honest. There are 2 holes drilled in the riser wich i used to attach the bow quiver. Don´t know if these are standard size to fit a bow sight.
boy she ticc
wow, moet ik nog effe oefenen denk ;-)
I really like the design of the cresting machine and am thinking of building one myself. I have a question, what do you need to alter for different diameter arrows?
Thank you for your feedback. To answer your question, I have a short piece of rubber tube to hold the arrow in place. I always insert or glue the nock onto the arrow so the diameter of the shaft has no influence. Hope this helps and good luck with building your arrow crester! 👍
Beautiful course. Great video👍🙂🇨🇦😎
Thanks, haven't been able to shoot a 3D course since the start of this pandemic a year ago! 😕 Really miss it and it seems I'll have to be patient a little longer, at least a few more months I'm afraid. But thanks again for watching!
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 same here. Luckily I have a private 3D range a few minutes from me so I was able to shoot and do videos for most of this winter. The range was made by my wife’s family on their property and now that the snow is gone we’ll be putting the 3D animals back out on the course.😎
Nicht schlecht 👍🇦🇹🔝
😅😅😅👍🏻👍🏻
What arrow shafts are those my man? And whats the specs on your bow? She sounds blazing fast
Those are Linkboy arrows and are made in China. I know that a lot of people don't like to hear that but these are great arrows and I simply can't fault them. Been shooting them for +3 years and they outperform some well-known brands I used before. The bow is 42# at 28" but I have more or less 40# on the fingers at full draw. Never chronographed them but it sure spits them out pretty fast for a hybrid/flatbow. Thanks for watching BTW. It's been a terrible year for my archery due to this current pandemic. Our club has been closed for almost a year now and no organized 3D shoots or courses. Hope we can return to normal soon so we can get back to shooting and bring out some content again!
Dude that is one gorgeous bow, I've been looking at so many custom bows and I've decided to go with the stalker , thanks for the fantastic video!!!
Thanks for watching! You can't go wrong with a Stalker and South is a great guy to deal with. He might be busy at the moment as he's moving to a new location but he's more than willing to help!
Yeah that's an absolutely beautiful bow !! I just ordered the same model off his website and I'm so excited I feel like a kid on Christmas 🎄!
Great video. Those are great targets to shoot at. That was very enjoyable to watch. Thank You for sharing it for us to watch.
What bow is that sitting on the stump?
It's a Stalker Stickbows Coyote FXT. Thanks for watching!
I have an unboxing video of that bow with some more detailed shots and pictures.
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 I just got put on the list for one of those! I can't wait. What do you think of yours?
@@jarridcarter5001 congrats man, you won't be disappointed!! It's an amazing bow, a dream to shoot and to look at! What wood combo did you go for? Choosing those was my biggest problem! 😅
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 you gonna laugh at this but I swear I ordered mine before I saw the specs on yours. 42#@28 the same exact riser and limbs as yours only footed limbs in the walnut...what an odd coincidence.
Which bow is in the thumbnail? Welke boog staat er op de foto van deze video?
Stalker Stickbows Coyote FXT, pracht van een boog!
Sad to see how many Archers have some form of Target Panic. Eventually it will rob their enjoyment & makes a lot of archers quit. Get some Coaching & learn good form with a Shot Sequence executed thru back tension. Not meant to be derogatory in anyway. God Bless.
Which arrows you used in the video?
I believe these were the Bearpaw pentalon hunter extreme arrows. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a great time
Cracking video bro, looking into the 13 " riser at the moment. Love the hat🤠 what make and model is it if you don't mind me asking. Keep up the excellent work.👍👍🏹🏹
Thank you for your comment! The hat is a Stetson Merced vitafelt, it has a nice short brim so it doesn't get in the way when shooting. The Mohawk is a great shooting bow but if you have a chance give the 13" riser a try before you buy. A few of my friends also got this one and some of them still prefer the 15". The 15" riser is a little more stable and forgiving. But it's best to find out for yourself.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, that was kind of you. I'll definitely look into trying both risers before my purchase thanks for the info. Shoot straight & keep safe.🏹🏹
What do you think of the bigger grip?
Bigger grip compared to? The grip is actually more narrow than my previous bows but still offer good support against the palm of my hand. I got the low wrist grip. You have a choice of low, medium or high wrist handle or South can make it just the way you want it. Still love this bow! Thanks for your comment!
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 thanks for the video and that is a beautiful bow. It seems like the grip comes back more in the palm. Not widder.
Yes, the handle curves nice into the shape of the hand and it stays more flat compared to other brands which have a tendency to be more rounded of towards the inside of the palm. This can cause torque more easely, especially on a low wrist grip. But that's just my 2 cents. But I agree, it's a beautiful lookin' and great shooting bow. South Cox is an awesome bowyer and great to deal with.
You guys make a very nice video fun to watch
Thanks very much! We're always having fun in the woods shooting our bow!
Really sweet bow..please compare the COYOTE to the REDMAN!
Fun looking course, where in the world was this?
belgium
Great shooting! Looking forward to getting in the woods with my bow at some point, Covid-19 virus spoiling it for us at the moment, locked down in UK, is Belgium the same?
Yes, we're all in lock down to, all sportevents, including archery are canceled untill June! We're aloud to walk in the forest but it's never bin aloud to take your bow with you for some stumping or roving. So a bit of backyard shooting is all that's possible, if you have the space for it! Thanks for watching and your feedback, stay safe! Better times ahead! 👍🏻🏹
@@thearcheryapprentice8511 exactly the same here, you can walk, run or cycle for "exercise" but no archery or fishing etc.I can get 10 metres at a stuffed sack type target indoors, thats about it! 👍🏻🏹
Nice little video.
