Northern ADV & Touring
Canada
Приєднався 2 бер 2008
Northern ADV started out as a channel about Adventure motorbike riding in Canada and the U.S.! With the introduction of a Honda Goldwing it has evolved to become Northern ADV and Touring! And Hey, it's Canada so I keep things going all winter on my Ski-Doo! Everyday is a new adventure!
Insta-Tent Comparison. Temu vs Amazon.
I bought two "Insta-tents". First, a very inexpensive one from Temu just so I could check out the mechanism, then when I liked how it worked, I ordered a mid-level one from Amazon. Watch this video to check out the differences between the two and to see just how slick these "Insta-Tents" work!

Unbiased Rider Review of the HWK Motorcycle Rain Suit.
Переглядів 1282 місяці тому
After riding 1000's of miles in heavy rain and some hail here's my take on the HWK Motorcycle Rain Suit. Did it keep me dry? Did it hold up in the wind? Did it flap around like a sail? Did it leak? Find out in the video! A link is included if you decide you'd like to order a set. This is not an affiliate link. Just trying to make it easier to find. Or you can find it on Amazon. hwkmoto.com/prod...

Cody Mountain Tunnel
Переглядів 413 місяці тому
On Hwy 14 (this section is also Hwy 16 and Hwy 20), climbing west out of Cody, Wyoming, I found this spectacular three section tunnel that spit me out at the Buffalo Bill Reservoir! Continuing on from there put me right into Yellowstone Park! I did this fabulous ride right after touring around the Black Hills of South Dakota. Hard to beat that part of the U.S. for top notch riding!
Iron Mountain Road

This was a crazy fun ride on a cool October day down the Tribag Mine Road on my trusty Suzuki V-Strom 650! There's no doubt that the DL650 is a very capable bike in the bush! If you can only have one bike to do everything, it's really not a bad choice!

This segment takes us back across the Keys to the Everglades, North through the Smokey Mountains up into Pennsylvania and back towards Canada. It was sad to see this journey come to an end. Over 4200 miles, through 12 states and countless epic vistas, cool people, and a mountain of memories!
Canada to Key West - Episode 5 - South Carolina to Key West!
Переглядів 49Рік тому
This was our final leg to Key West taking us from the Carolina's into Georgia, across to Savanna, then down the coast to Miami before heading across the Keys. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of footage from one camera because of a bad memory card, but I took what was left and managed to make something that I could post. Lessons learned...lol.

Honda Goldwing with a Heavy Trailer takes on the Dragon!!

Tail of the Dragon ride on my Honda Goldwing pulling a heavy trailer! My brother is following me on his Honda CB500X. My fully loaded Goldwing with me on it is over 1000 pounds! The loaded trailer I was pulling was likely around 500 pounds with the gear inside! Quite an experience!

Goldwing Taken Out, by a Flying Tonneau Cover!!
Good comparison. I'm so cheap I'd go with the Temu and a small tarp as the rain fly. 😃
@northernrocker I think that would work well. Also a ground tarp underneath.
Thanks Tom, I wondered about those insta-tents.
I have a TrailMax 140-80-B18 M/C 70T m+s on my KLX 250 ....so far I did 39000 km ( 13 months of riding ) and could go on for an other 10000km...Hard rubber in deed....even got twice a nail in it and was able to drive to the dealer for a fix....this spring I'll get a new one ...TrailMax gain my thrust...
I'm glad you've been enjoying the Trail max. It's a great all around tire for sure! Thanks for watching!
I have a Jeep Renegade but I like the simplicity and size of motorcycle campers. Would I be able to tow this with a Jeep? Or would I need some sort of adapter to get the tongue and hitch to connect to a car instead of a bike?
It has a regular 1 7/8" tongue and a standard "4-flat" wiring connector. You could certainly pull it no problem with your Renegade. You might want to get a receiver insert for your jeep that drops down several inches so that the trailer tows level. Those are readily available at Harbour Freight, etc. I hope you can find one of these as they certainly are great little campers. Thanks for watching!
I never go anywhere without a bottle of jack😂
That's not a bad idea!
Great video. You made it easier for me to pick out a camper.
Glad I could help! Thanks for checking out the channel!
Total loaded weight please. (On the trailer, that is)
@@jeffreyengle2762 Probably about 500 lbs including the loaded cooler. Thanks for checking out the video.
@@NorthernADV I had a cargo trailer that was 290 pounds before I put anything in it roughly 400 pounds total. Absolutely made me want to stop motorcycling all together. That thing pushed me around gave me more white knuckle than I bargained for. I just purchased, a used Aluma trailer about a week ago that weighs roughly 100 pounds soaking wet. I managed to put all of the camping gear for two including two. Exped 5 inch thick sleeping pads, Helinox Max cot, full cook set, 4 man eureka tent with vestibule, full size pillows, extra blankets, heated gear, rain gear, all the clothes you could want for two people bathroom stuff….filled it up, nice flat aluminum diamond plate top w/ rack to cook on and haul extra stuff …. Fire wood…. No more white knuckles, very stable trailer. All that said, I got the bike rideable again😂
@@jeffreyengle2762I'm glad your lighter trailer works well for you. It's too bad you had some bad experiences with your previous trailer. But it seems that you did the right thing by downsizing. Quite honestly, this Aspen pulls so well that I often have to remind myself that it's behind me. I pulled it out west with me last month (over 8,000kms) and even up in the mountains it pulled like a dream. Never seemed to push my goldwing, even on steep downgrades. I did use more fuel though for sure.
I use a queen size air mattress in my timeout camper. 💪🏻
@@ricksteel6401 that would be good for sure. Thanks for watching!
Do you know how long the main section was Tommy?
They say the main section is about 3200 feet. There was an ominous looking side tunnel part way through that was intriguing.
wow loved the curved bridges, and tunnels, so cool, thanks for the video, well done.
@@mikelee6636 Thanks for checking out the video!
It must be hard to decide what to take & leave... It’s too late when you’re on the road & have made the wrong decisions. If you make bad choices as you say, you could be left with a pile of 💩🤣.
Very cool. I've been to the black hills of South Dakota but not through there.
Quality video Tom, beautiful place.
That was incredible! And you chose beautiful music to go behind the video. Very fitting!
Very good vid Tom. I need to get a good camera also!!😎🏍️
So cool!
Cool. I've been there once before. Nice to see it again.
It’s like I was still there. I remember every twist and turn. Nice job on the vid!!
@@shagdog95 Thanks for checking it out! Quite a unique place for sure!
The Tail of the Dragon is in the States...this is the Colon of the Dragon.
Which chin mount do you use for this?
Hi Brien. It's from a seller on amazon called Lupholue. I started with a strap style but found that it prevented a good visor seal, so I switched to the stick on mount which worked great. I also found that if I removed the helmet visor, there was a perfect spot right on top for a screw on removeable top mount which actually made for a better camera shot.
Very cool. The guy in the truck probably thought; this guy must be lost back here on that thing. LOL!
Haha...for sure. I have to admit, riding in the back country is a heck of a lot more fun than riding on the highway!
Oh I know all about trying to pack light. LOL! As light as I packed last year on my week long canoe trip, when I got home I told myself; I didn't need to bring this, and this item didn't even get used etc so hopefully this year's trips will be a bit more organized. Can't wot to see the footage from your trip.
Can’t wait to try this
It's a fun ride for sure! Thanks for checking out the video!
Good job Tom. Will your trailer hold a sign or two?😉
Thanks Rob! And...quite possibly...lol.
Cool. Good to see a new video out. I still have haunted memories of those NOP days. LOL! I had left over magnets and stuff which I cut and reused for fridge magnets and used one of the old note pads the other day to start a campfire to cook my lunch on since all the woods around was so wet. But it was an experience. Can't say I didn't try to make change happen in this messed up world. But it did bring "some" northerners together. But I can't say I'd ever try my hand at politics again. LOL!
You and me both...lol. It was a great life experience all in all, although every one of us were winging it trying to figure things out as we went along. You were a big asset to the party!
@@NorthernADV Thanks. I tried. 🤷♂️
Sorry to say, but it's wrong info about the fire with the War, The British of the time took over for Mackinaw in one night and the Americans burnt down fort St Joseph that's what happened, we were the very first team ever to investigate the fort on its anniversary date.
Thanks for checking out the video! No need to apologize, the video was about the ride, not about the history. All the best!
So, since a wet-bath kit is important to me, the next step is to open up your rectangular shallow tupperwate, assemble your folding toilet w/bio-bags, hang shower curtain, and suspend your gravity-feed "solar shower" with nozzle (use cook stove to heat water to drsired temp for showering or washing dishes for filling solar shower).
That would definitely work! Great ideas!
You guys need to polish up with your riding styles. This video gave me a lot of anxiety to watch. Some of those blind hills and corners your riding over the line.
Admittedly, when the brothers get together, sometimes we get carried away, but I'll assure you a great time was had. Also I was using an old camera with a low chin mount making it seem like it was sketchier than it was. Thanks for watching!
No no no. Left me stranded. I'm filing law suit.
😂😂 did you make it back!?
It is beautiful, but I have watched several videos on this, and in the summer, it looks like a piece of cake. Any time I drive to the mall in Toronto seems a lot more dragony.
I agree. It's a fun ride, and beautiful along the river, but all in all not crazy technical. The logging trucks do add an element of danger, but being "Hwy 129" it shares that designation with the "Dragon". Thanks for watching!
these are actually rebranded 509 Deltas.
Did you guys go to Yukon yet
Yes I did take the Suzuki up to the Yukon and back. It was an amazing trip! I divided the trip up into four videos which are on the channel if you feel like watching them. Cheers!
Why can’t I just jumper between the two?
Because there is some kind of little anti-theft chip in there.
Thanks for the tip.
No problem. I hope it helps Dave!
Just did this and it fricken worked!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! Genius
I'm glad that worked for you Eric!
Hows the stopping ability while towing this ?
You can definitely feel the difference and you need to leave more space in front of you, but it's not terrible. I witnessed a six car pile-up right in front of me coming around Atlanta and I was thankfully able to stop before getting tangled up in it.
Very nice vid but my sled is fine but thanks for the vid😊😊
Thanks for watching Paul!
Just tried this. I have an 07 GTX 80. it didn’t work but I jiggled all the connections on the battery, solenoid, and battery and she fired up. Will clean up all the connections this weekend. Thanks for the tip and added a pencil to the rear bag just in case 👍
I had a 2009 and had to drill drainage holes in the storage compartment. First when it was stored with the tounge down water found its way in and it looked like a bathtub. With the drainage holes now i could hose it out. I loved this trailer but for one person it was just too difficult to put up and take down. I did love the sleeping area though.
I did the exact same thing Doreen, drilling drainage holes into both the front and rear compartments, just in case. Seems to work well.
Never remove the tether
gotta fix your volume brother.
Look at those teal waters 😍
We always say that exact same thing! It's a real barrier to increasing tourism when our highways are in the shape they're in!
Beautiful country up along that stretch. I used to love the Fall loads that ran through the Virginia's and Pennsylvania area. I've stopped at a lot of those welcome centers for breaks. If only we had a government that cared about its citizens in Canada to build proper rest areas like they have in the US. And I don't mean those OnRoutes. Or as I call them SOnRoutes cause they only exist south of Barrie. LOL!
Hey, ✌️ from French 😉 Thank you for this video ! I have the exact same bike and I love it for riding. Good road and long life!!
Merci beaucoup Eric! Soyez prudent! Merci d'avoir regarde'!
Beauty video, great ride!!
That looked fun
It sure was! A short little road but some great corners!
What a great trio wish I was there.
Thanks for checking out the video! It was a pretty great night for sure.
I have lost my key and wondering what should I do, I have a 2019.mxz x 600r
I'm not a sled mechanic, but I'm thinking the dealership will need to order you a new key. They might need your sled to reprogram it, but I'm not sure.
Great ride. I should have made a video when i did a very similar ride with a trailer in 2012. Yes that was 11 years ago. Wow i never thought it was that long ago. Anyway thanks for sharing. 😊
Thanks for checking out the video! Rock On!
