I hate to say this cuz there’s things I like about 343’s Halo…but if they want to reboot, why start ALL the way from the beginning. Just start the reboot from 3. Yeah I’m basically saying F 343’s story, but I’m sorry - that sh** was a**. Nobody knows what the hell is happening anymore, cuz they scattered MAIN essential story beat in everything but the games…the current s story CAN be interesting but, it’s a mess and that’s why it sucks. Make forerunners humans again and work off that plot - the OG Bungie reveal. Just stick with that story and expand from there.

Halo was good because Master chief did not talk and that help mystify his character. The covenant also didn’t speak English. They spoke their language which made you think that they were planning something against you when they were talking. That part of halo is missing anyway that’s just my opinion, but I remember playing halo and being truly excited for the game and wondering where they would go next. Moving to unreal engine five I don’t think will help if they don’t get the correct recipe right. I think this change is to help them find the formula that made halo successful on that front. I’m hearing a lot of bad things about the studio director.

Honestly, the fact that this is how they have chosen to talk about the future of halo just means the series is as dead as ever. Halo was a graphical showcase, sure, but good sweet lord was it more than that. It was couch coop, LAN parties, Xbox live - it was a social experience. It was trying to beat the entire game in a single night on legendary with friends. Showing me the new thing running on a 4090 and pushing the effects to 100 does nothing for me - and it won’t do anything for the Series S owners who will play this at sub-720p

One thing I am looking forward to (if they do it right) is now that future Halo games are on UE5, presumably Forge will be expanded since they can potentially offer out a full sdk to users (similar to UEFN or even something like Sandstorms mod tools) that way custom maps can be created to the same quality level (or higher) than official maps! Forge maps in Infinite are noticeably worse quality wise than the vanilla maps and it really shows with the graphics etc.

Back with my take, 8 for visuals...... I don't care about visuals ever, as long as it isn't garbage. 343 saw how hyped people got when that rumor started circulating that they were being pulled from Halo after making nothing but mid, so they're doubling down by calling themselves Halo. They just aren't good devs. They're blind, deaf, and dumb. They spout how true they are to Halo, but they drift further and further every time. Halo Infinite being a big time skip bypassing the story that was going nowhere was a mistake. Instead of course correction, they tried to nostalgia bait the Combat Evolved vibe in the most bland and repetitive open world with a micro sized multiplayer for like a year. Seriously though. 343 can't do anything to convince me they know what they're doing. They're taking a month to hype up a 3rd person playlist for Infinite. Is that really that important? That's gonna save a dying game?

I'll just wait as usually, I don't really need to worry about it until they share proper gameplay. I know Pierre Hintze is responsible for helping fix MCC, so him being the CEO of this company might bring a different result compare to the old 343 leadership. But lets wait and see, but in the meantime there are other more important matters to attend to in our daily lives.

I think odst was a good showcase of what can be done, with new characters, but done right within the lore. We weren’t playing as chief or a spartan anymore. But it was amazing because of that

18:35 capital investing is how we got here, lol. Seriously though, new people taking the reigns from those who originally made it great is a big reason. Changing tastes and technologies, too. The studio should never be the reason you buy a game, it's whos working there. By the time BF1 came and went, most of the DICE vets left the company, making their own studios.

The engine was SlipSpace, which was really a retooled Blam! engine. Blam! was an engine used for the OG Halo CE, and for every Halo since (and Destiny still!) It's the reason Infinite had so much awful technical debt, they needed to retool the engine in massive ways for every game they've made for the last 12+ years (Bungie included). It's a massive reason why Infinite had to get so much of its content cut or released after launch (the other being massive leadership management being piss poor, and I'm incredibly glad everyone at that level is now gone). Microsoft also wanted to tool SlipSpace into an inhouse engine for all teams to use. Very, very stupid when a lot of the work for it was done by contractors and not permanent in-house teams. Moving to Unreal will honestly be a great help to them, not only because onboarding will be so much faster for new employees, but becasue so many other teams inside Microsoft have a lot of experience under their belt with the engine. Including Coalition, who are probably one of the best teams in terms of working magic with the engine. And Ninja Theory, as well. The rumor right now is that they're remaking CE in UE5 as their first project to get their feet really wet and get the teams set on how a Halo game needs to be made. This does give a decent foundation to get there, with a better engine, better structure in the company, and new leadership who has a track record of fixing what's been broken. I will not give this team any slack in how critical my eye will be, as obviously we need to see the end product of a game to see if this actually does anything well. I was burned by Infinite very quickly, I'm glad I never actually purchased the title (thanks Game Pass, I guess?). This is coming from someone who has read every Halo book and seen every audio/visual media for the franchise up until Halo 5. To their credit, Pierre led the team who fixed MCC and added the features and games after launch that turned the title into something great, and the Art Director Chris has worked with Marcus Lehto, one of the co-creators of Halo. Lehto has given Chris his blessing in terms of how he wants to shape the look of Halo artistically (Chris worked with Lehto at Ridgeline Games before the studio was shut down by EA when Lehto left). It's symbolic, sure, but its better commentary from the original makers of the series than we've seen since Bungie handed the series off to MS. The project was to see how they could build environments in-engine internally before they figured they'd let the public see the results. It's to give the starved community of Halo players something to digest since it'll be the last we see for a while since the Battle Royale was cancelled(Project Tantanka). It's not beautified like Infinite's initial trailer was. Not gameplay for sure, but hopefully an accurate representation with how UE5 can make games look (Hellblade 2 is a really good example).

Unreal engine is good, it will let them focus on making the game, but... this will lead nowhere if they have people making it who hate the game, literally saw an asmongold clip of a dude who works there who hates guns and "could never work on a shooting game like cod" but he is ok with halo because of the scifi disconnect... holy shit. But, even then, its all about the people who decide how the game should be, if I had control over people feeding me bad shit, take what they made, give it to somebody else and have them finish it. It actually makes me happy to see them use blueprints because it makes everything super easy to change subpar shit into something good. Gameplay is king, and as long as the people behind gameplay actually plays games, and understands how to make it, and the higher ups let them cook.

changing your studios name dont change the fact this studio has failed making a halo...hiring people just because of diversity is whats wrong with this studio. nobody there has the competence to make games anymore at 343.
