A live action movie that is almost entirely CGI... SPY KIDS IS BACK, BABY! Yeah, this looks terrible. If I was still that 13 year old playing minecraft years ago, I still wouldn't want this. I've always hated the concept of "I got sucked into the videogame" stories. Tron has been the only time that has felt right and not forced to make kids go "I want that to happen to me!" Only for that lesson of "No, you don't want that. It's scary. And dangerous."

If they HAVE to make a Minecraft movie, ditch the live action people because crossing "real" universes with made up ones is so rarely done well. Keep the virtual stuff and change it to a horror movie where Herobrine is snatching villages and taking them to the Nether.
if i was a kid who grew up with minecraft, or a kid that was actively experiencing the game for the first time, id absolutely love this. this is one of those ones where i think we just have to accept that we are not the target audience. i think this is justified from the view of a kid. i liked a lot of shitty movies as a kid for no other reason than maybe one or two redeeming qualities edit: remember speed racer? loved that shit. its so much worse than i could've imagined as an adult though
This could have been fine if they didn't do live action, a la Mario or Angry Birds. As Fry said the visuals look good, but that cast and character setup is atrocious.
They need to Sonic this movie into reproduction with all CGI characters to match the world. The live action stuff looks so stupid. The characters are so jarring and out of place like the Concord characters.
They're just reaching out to the children of the people who have played Minecraft. Like Transformers One, etc. They are just reusing the same IP's over and over to maximize profits. You can thank Microsoft for this.

"Clearly targeted at kids" is exactly how I feel about the disconnection we have between superficial/trendy/attention-grabbing elements in flashy entertainment and the intended purpose/tone of the original content. It's a weird cultural shift that started with Fortnite that I think we're seeing being injected into media that is traditionally aimed at older demo's. Super jarring and imo really shitty - especially since a lot of the content we grew up and fell in love with falls into the identity of mature and deeper/serious tones and is being sacrificed for mass appeal towards people that shouldn't be playing the games we play to begin with (rated-M games). Was talking to Frosty about this a while back, it all feels very exploitative and I worry that it's being overshadowed and misinterpreted by this whole "woke" conversation when this feels much worse/sinister.
This feels like it didn't need to be made...then to find out it was 10+ years in the making?! Holy shit...

Sad part is, is that whoever pitched this movie to the execs probably said "imagine jumanji, but in Minecraft" lol. I can see the pitch meeting now
