Paul Field/The Cockroaches - Some Kind Of Girl (Live on Countdown)
Some Kind of Girl was the second single from The Cockroaches 1987 eponymously named album The Cockroaches. The film clip for Some Kind of Girl (written by John Field and Paul Field), was shot in Sydney and was a very stylised clip with the band in suits and ties with flowing and swirling fabric and the drums wrapped a la the French artist Christo. However, this clip is a live performance on the national music show Countdown, from the Melbourne studios. All up, there were four singles and four film clips released from The Cockroaches debut album.
SOME KIND OF GIRL (2.49) LYRICS
(John Field, Paul Field)
My heart's at my feet, my head's in my hands
St. Anthony, won't you find my mind?
She said she'd call me, she called me yesterday
But still I'm waiting here on the line
She's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yes, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind
She's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yes, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind
Stop all the sadness, I breathe in happiness
Her looks and kiss are so sublime
Sweet incantations all through the day
And don't you know that I just melt away
She's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yes, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind
And she's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yes, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind
Don't you tell me 'bout the time
Don't you tell me 'bout the time
(Some kind of girl)
Oh, she's some kind of girl
(Some kind of girl)
Don't you tell me 'bout the time
Don't you tell me 'bout the time
(When you left me there before)
Don't you tell me 'bout the time I was left there waiting,
Shown up yet again
Shown up yet again
Stop all the sadness, I breathe in happiness
Her looks and kiss are so sublime
Sweet incantations all through the day
And don't you know that I just melt away
She's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yeah, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind
And she's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yes, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind
She's some kind of girl (Some kind of girl)
Yeah, she's some kind of girl, she's one of a kind

Wow Marie Field. Looks Absolutely Beautiful. She Looks very happy to See Her Two Sons Performing and Singing at the Same time. Father Keven having a Best Time of His Life 1:18
I just found this out today and tiktok and I’m shocked. This song is a bop, but I can’t listen to this without hearing Dorthy the dinosaur. Your brother Anthony is a genius for wanting to use this melody or the wiggles song.
What was it about on Tiktok?
Hi Paul, I’m Saif. I’m a 28 year old male person on the autism spectrum. Some Kind of Girl is my favorite song from your old band The Cockroaches. Anthony is doing great at being a wiggle. I hope I get to meet you in person one day.
Saw this band many times. They were great live. ❤
The Wiggles are the reason why I love The Cockroaches. I had no idea that they did so many covers of Cockroaches songs. The Wiggles wouldn't have been possible without you, John, Jeff and Anthony !
2:25 is that Anthony?!
Please don’t falling asleep on job jeffry
Good to see Tony Henry still bashing the sticks.

Great song the cockroaches are the best

Where are the guitar cords and amplifiers at did y’all take them with you when y’all did the song wait up live on countdown?
It was a film clip and we performed to the playback.
Funny that they use the phrase "showed up" where he in the States we you the phrase "Stood up". Neat Tidbit.....
I recently discovered this group here on UA-cam. Now this is my type of music. I'm going to order the only CD that they have on Amazon. I take it that all the previous albums are not available anymore? I would love it if they ever decide to reissue all their albums someday.
Thanks, all of the albums are available digitally, but sadly, we are not sure if many or any CDs are available anymore. We are glad you enjoy the music
Was this just a single? I can’t seem to find this on any album from The Cockroaches that isn’t just the a compilation CD. Amazing song btw! Should’ve been a bigger band here in the States
Thanks mate, yes it was just a single at the time
Interesting how the arrangement differs from the various versions of Dorothy The Dinosaur. The brass chorus melody sounds almost (if not exactly) the same as the classic Wiggle Time version, but this is much more guitar-heavy, with the off-beat chords being played on guitar rather than organ, with only short guitar flourishes remaining in Dorothy The Dinosaur. The driving bassline of the Wiggles version does not appear to be present either. And obviously, in terms of song structure, Dorothy The Dinosaur omits the solo and bridge sections.
Yes indeed, this was obviously written some years before The Wiggles even existed, but Anthony thought it was a good melody to use.
You and the Wiggles = before you and the Wiggles were The Wiggles.
Thats right Jacob
It's that Paul and Anthony
and Jeff
Indeed!
Exactly!
Not unlike the duets with Greg T last period Friday arvos at Paddies ‘71 😉
“Wait Up!” Performed by The Cockroaches, has an adaptation from the Wiggles Rock n Roll Preschool album since 2015, and it is called “Wake Up!”
Yes it was great to see them use another Cockroaches song.
Somebody wake the keyboard player up
I was going to say good to see Jeff woke up long enough to play the keyboards!!
Please don’t falling asleep on job Jeffry
Wheres Jeff?

Of course mate! No matter what she does, we are proud of her. But being a Wiggle is very special
Hi Paul i have a Question to Ask you your Niece Lucia Field is Now a Blue Wiggle just Like her Dad are you Proud Of Her ?
I couldnt be more proud of Lucia! She's even teaching some greek words and is of course a beautiful ballet dancer
So enjoyed listening to this song ❤
Thanks Karen, such great fun doing it with the mighty Jimmy
If Anthony Retires can I fell in as a New Blue wiggle
Thanks Harry, but I really can't see him retiring anytime in the next decade or so! ;)
Does Australia have their own version of country music?
Australia has alll sorts of musical genres, including country and I guess, being Australian, we have our own version. American country music had its roots in Celtic music from the Irish and Scottish immigrants, who moved to the Appalachians and other parts of the south. And of course, folk songs from Europe and the enslaved African peoples transported to America. Australia had similar immigration from Ireland, Engand and Scotland and Europe and of course the influence of American Country music

Their needs to be a biopic based on the cockroaches.
Thanks, the recent documentary on The Wiggles covers a little of The Cockroaches life. IM not sure that there would be enough interest or demand for a biopic

Have any of the guys thought about reissuing or remixing the Cockroaches' discography/music onto vinyl/CD or using Dolby Atmos Spatial for the newer generation?
it would be great to hear, but we aren't sure that there would be a demand for our music to warrant the investment

Yes it was adapted
@@paulfieldofficial2511 I love it 🥰 alot. My mom said the cockroaches and the wiggles are the same name and I said they actually have the same band members but different band name. For me personally I enjoyed both. I did came up with the idea 💡 of the original wiggles and the current wiggles abbriviated for the new generation wiggles because abc music 🎼 the wiggles independent record label reached out to me over on Instagram and saw the comment that is infact true. And I said The og wiggles abcmusic that's my wiggles that I grew up with and also for the current wiggles aka the ng wiggles or the new generation wiggles @thewiggles themselves are definitely getting much better at writing better and crafted lyrics and also writing adult lyrics too that's what John James said from newsboys and newsboys got started after the cockroaches and released read all about it on august 11th on 1988. And you guys accomplished newsboys songwriting that’s incredibly awesome 👏🏻. Check out newsboys not ashamed I think personally you guys accomplished for rewiggled is the length of an album the album has to be more than 30 minutes and newsboys released a demo called read all about it way back in late 1987 and you should definitely 💯 check it out and same with not ashamed too Paul. And that’s how I came up with the idea for the original wiggles and the current wiggles abbriviated for the og wiggles and the ng wiggles aka new generation wiggles.
@@paulfieldofficial2511 true.
You guys know your song structure for sure.
The musicians certainly do, very talented lads
@@paulfieldofficial2511 strongly agreed 👍 with you Paul. Amen brother. You guys raised your children right. And one day when we all get to heaven you get to see your daughter Bernadette I’m there right by your side 😉 👍.
I didn’t know that this song is independent. When is the cockroaches is gonna have a anniversary album 💿 where they remastered and remix their album 💿 I wanna hear positive remix album 💿 and their debut album 💿 remastered and remix now that’s something that I would like to see and don’t forget demos and rarities and live concert audio and unreleased photos too?
we arent sure that there would be a demand for such a thing or the funds to cover such an investment as most music is no longer bought, just streamed. Sorry mate
@@paulfieldofficial2511 you’re fine pul I did pray for your daughter Bernadette and it worked. Hope you and your family are doing well paul. God bless to you and your family. You’re not alone god Jesus and the Holy Spirit will come back the king is coming.
You’re an awesome 😎 UA-cam channel.
Thanks
@@paulfieldofficial2511 you’re very welcome 😉 Paul.
The wiggles and the cockroches the wiggles is more for kids while the cockroches is more for adults and my mom Suzanne agreed with you guys on it like bit by bit same song but different melody 🎼 and lyrics. It’s another Saturday night Dorothy the dinosuar different melody 🎼 different lyrics different song title like I’ll come running back to you became big red car different melody 🎼 but different lyrics. That happens with she goes on and on and caveman with caveland and in the wiggles world 🌍 too. But the wiggles don’t know but can burrow what the cockroaches done early in the years was that the cockroaches know their bridge, breakdown, interlude, post chorus but the wiggles don’t know about post chorus, interlude, breakdown, bridge, break, etc but the cockroaches does. So maybe 🤔 for the current wiggles to step up their songwriting skills because what phillip wiltcher told me was that you guys used verse and chorus and that’s it. But there needs to be more for songwriting what john James said in one interview from the newsboys was that they needed better and crafted lyrics and the wiggles could be one of those bands that need the better and crafted lyrics. Abc music agreed and the og wiggles are ready for that challenge for bridge, post chorus, interlude, breakdown, break, etc.
Thats a deep analysis Luke. And certainly The Cockroaches were for an adult audience while The Wiggles made music for preschool children. Two very different markets, but the common foundation stone is a strong melody. The Cockies had our moment in the sun and The Wiggles are still performing and recording some 33 years later. I'm sure The Wiggles do know about various songwriting structures, but it's a choice that Anthony, as their producer and creative director, has been making for all of those decades and it seems to be still working for them. I'm not sure that I would agree with Phillip that they only use verse and chorus. Over their soon to be 100 albums and combined 30 million CD and DVD sales, they seem to be both gifted and crafted, but every artist always looks to get better at what they do.
@@paulfieldofficial2511 amen brother.
@@paulfieldofficial2511 Tim from Switchfoot also said I totally get what you mean, Luke! It’s like each song in an album is a chapter in a book, right? They all come together to tell a bigger story or vibe. Listening to the whole album is like reading the entire story from start to finish. It’s such a cool way to experience music, like going on a musical journey! 🎶📕💿. Do you agree 👍 💯 with me paul?
@@paulfieldofficial2511 Tim from Switchfoot says I totally agree with you! Seeing studio albums as books and chapters is such a creative way to appreciate music. It’s like diving into a new adventure with each song, just like turning the pages of a book. Whether it’s a lengthy album or a shorter one, the cohesive and artistic essence really shines through, much like a well-crafted book. It’s amazing how music can capture so much depth and emotion, just like a good story. 🎶📚
@@paulfieldofficial2511Tim from Switchfoot said to me It’s amazing how albums can be like a complete story, with each song as a chapter in a book. When you listen to the whole album, it’s like diving into the story from beginning to end. Sequencing is indeed crucial for creating a no-skip album or playlist. It’s like crafting a narrative with a flow that keeps listeners engaged. The order of songs can make a huge difference in how the album is experienced, just like arranging notes in music to create harmony. It’s all about creating a dynamic journey for the listeners, ensuring a smooth transition from one song to the next. Thanks for sharing your insights on the importance of sequencing in music albums! 🎶📖
