That's pretty great that you fish with your dad. Great video. Cheers!
Tank of a hen nice fish!! I love those cold morning like that 😎👍🏻
It's the best kind of cold!
Better than average caster. Cool video. Hope the rivers stay cool this Fall.
Appreciate it! That’s the goal. Cooler temps definitely helps . Good luck out there.
wow absolutely beautiful fish man great fight!
Thanks man it was fun getting out .
Was that the cowlitz at Lexington?
Nope a little south
Did you recently fish near erie pa ?
Nope I’m in the PNW but would love to fish pa.
You fishing the oregon city area. Nice job Bruce. What plug
Maybe 🙌🙌🙌
Love the plug take down, what plug where you using? Just found your videos , subscribed 🙂
Thanks Kevin I appreciate it. We normally use 3.0 or 3.5 mag lips. Dr death is the plug that fish came on.
Nice video Mantab yes keren😎 ok
Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed it.
That fish was a slab bro!!
Thanks! It made it worth the cold day.
Awesome. Love all the different styles of fishing. Just got a drift boat and can't wait to use it on the local rivers.
That’s awesome, drift boats are the way to go for steelhead!
Way to go guys. Wish I had a better shot of what you were using. Looking like the last fish was lost due go the leader coming in contact with the rim of the net. 😞 Still a fantastic day!
Thank you Garrett it’s a good day when you can get out and fish . Springer season is right around the corner can’t wait .
Nice work, always a good challenge getting it done solo!!!
Thanks! It’s definitely a lot easier with a buddy.
Why do all steelhead drift boat guides have the same mustache? Just an observation...
I’m not sure maybe it’s tradition like firefighters have mustaches.
A good angler is adaptive, I’d say you fished the perfect rod for each spot!
You are absolutely right! Gotta adapt to the conditions to make it happen. 🙌🙌🙌
If you ever need a shuttle buddy and wanna help a guy on his Spey cast let me know 😅. But great video dude 👏. Pulling plugs is an art itself.
I appreciate it. I could always use a shuttle buddy and help with my cast, I’m always learning.
Should have shown the fight and fish
I will for sure next time thanks for the comment
also kuddos to use for keeping your options diversified as far as running flies and gear its always good to have more tools in the arsenal, that fish put up a good fight
Absolutely, you’ve got to be prepared for anything on the river.
are u in southern oregon? Also great video man really enjoyed watching it maybe one day we will have to get together and u can teach me more about swinging flies i just got a single hander 8wt i use with a SA anadro indicator line ive considered getting a second spool and line for it for a heavier shooting line or the OPST commando head
Sounds good man . I’m up in the Portland area, thanks for the kind words . There’s nothing like hooking one on the swing. It definitely takes time me and patience. Good luck out there.
@riverrightoutdoors oh ok gotcha yeah I have only took the fly rod out twice this season cuz I've been fishing some new rods I got
Nice work dude! No rod holder needed! 😂
You got that right! 😂
😮wow!
You know it.
Not a snob . Glad you caught a fish. I have yet to get one. Been just swinging. Going to mix it up with an indicator and bead on my 7 wt switch rod . Patient man I am but it is nice to get a boost of a fish😁
It is a great feeling, congrats on getting out there, I hope you land some soon. Keep swinging it will pay off. I’m going to start dedicating swing only trips here soon. The only way to get one on the swing is to keep swinging . Good luck and let me know if you hook up .
@ I will. Thanks
Have you ever miss netted a fish before ???
Everyone has. Netting alone while fighting a steelie from a boat, no less, is challenging to begin with. Bottom line is you captured it! Well done!
Great day buddy!!
Yes it was!
Use less upper arm. Let the D loop form farther behind you. Pivot your body at your torso.
Great advice thank you 🙌🙌🙌
You can steal my heart and head
Yeah buddy 🙌🙌🙌
Cracking video well done some great takes and scenery ...Marquis is the business :)
Absolutely, thank you and they definitely are 🙌🙌
Whats your winter steelhead setup ?
Swing or die bro. Spey life or no life.
lol I used to think that way a couple of years ago. Now there are way more Spey fisherman . I have had some days where the river was corked and only fished a run or two. It turned into a float trip not a fishing trip. Plus I have friends that only swing and buddies that only gear fish. Best of both worlds. I would most definitely like to fish the swing all the time.
@@riverrightoutdoors yeah definitely sucks floating by 4 out of the 6 runs you wanted to fish. Even harder when the jet sleds bounce back and forth on them also. Tight lines . Good luck this season
@EeRock507 you too my friend
Tough luck there, man! Over here in UK red/orange/yellow/black are the go-to colour combinations for salmon and sea trout (sea run browns) flies when there's colour in the water and it's running heavy after rain. In northern England and Scotland most of our rivers run with a heavy peat stain from the hills as the flood passes through. Relieved to see you have bad days over on pacific NE ! 😂👍
Some days are definitely better than others. It’s just nice getting out and practicing my cast for a bit. A fish would be a bonus. Those are great color combinations. Now the conditions over here are low and very clear making it a little more challenging. Good luck out there. 🙌🙌🙌
outstanding fight sequences! is this Oregon? noticed the arid desert surroundings! subbed 👍👍
Yes, it is! Thanks for the sub . 🙌🙌🙌
Wow hadn't seen your stuff before, good content!
Thanks fisher I appreciate it. Keep making those dope videos.
In a few days hopefully those conditions will improve and you'll be dialed in on the steelhead! Tight lines! Captain Zac
Thanks captain Zach , the rivers are clearing up and dropping into shape.
Good stuff as usual!
Thanks again appreciate it . Looking forward to more of your content. 🙌🙌🙌
@ thank you! New video dropping Friday!
@ awesome 👏
Liked and subscribed my brother. It was a good day; you were out there getting after it before the pilgrims show up when conditions are perfect. It's early in the year and that HARDY is gonna zzzzing many times coming up !
Thanks Dave I appreciate buddy . Hopefully that hardy starts singing soon . Good luck this season.
YESSS! love the new video gotta love being out on the river, stay safe out there!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you get some action on the water.
Great video. There are definitely some tips I need to apply. Steelhead are definitely a grind.
Thank you I appreciate it . I’m still learning myself. The best thing to do is fish as much as possible.
That reel is just begging for some oil haha
You got that right! Just oiled it up .
One of my favorite rivers on earth in early nov. Caught my first steelhead on a skater here. And many, many more on top over the years
Il keep playing with the heads and tips but honestly I don’t feel the r8 is worth 1300 . The echo full swing is just as light. Could have saved myself 700 buckaroos
That’s a good chunk of change.
What’s your favorite fish you landed in 2024 ?
Thanks for informative video! Wondering what part of the country you’re in and are you a guide? If so, can you provide me with your email…thanks!
My email is in the bio. Hit me up any time . Thanks for the kind words 🙌
This was just a paid advertisement for Stanley Thermos, wasn’t it? 🫣 haha, jk. I don’t fly fish, but I’m on board with most of the gear stuff you’re talking about. Good video man.
Haha, yeah, got to love a good thermos. It’s essential for a day on the river! Thanks for watching! 🙏 hope all is well man. Good luck this winter.
Winston AIR with Abel Spey reels is my jam….personally never use t-11
The Winston air is an amazing rod. That is a heck of a winter setup. 🙌🙌🙌
Nice setup my friend. Thanks for the info
Glad you liked it! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching 🙌
@ most of the time I’m using the Max Power skagit head. I also use the Max Launch if I know I am going to want more distance for a run. I’m still unsure what type of water I would use the pick pocket in?
Never really found a line I liked with the R8 1730. Rod was a bit of a noodle for me.
It can be tough to find the right line for that rod but I think I've got it figured out now, I'm happy with my current setup.
Why is your mustache so sick?
You know why 😉
I'm with you on the Seaguar fluro. Helps tube flies sink quicker and it props up the trailing hook very nicely.
I’m a big fan of Seaguar as well, My hook up ratio has increased when swinging flies. Gotta love those tube flies.
Let me know what’s your favorite set up for chasing these fish ?
@@riverrightoutdoors G-Loomis 7133, Sage Spey Reel, Rio max power and T11
What do you think about the clearwater boat for floating that river? Thinking about a trip this next fall, likely an overnight float.
It all depends on what section you’re going to float. It should do great for an over night trip. It’s a pretty stable boat but not sure I would take it down some class 3 or class 4 rapids. Good luck and Let me know how it goes 🙌🙌🙌
I guide in the UK and always use reels with the most noise - 1 because I love it and 2 as your buddy said I know what clients are doing with their fish as often we can’t see the rod - reminded me of fishing for sea trout at night over here - great vid!
Thank you sir , I appreciate it. Gotta love the screaming reels . Thanks for watching.
