Why Are Nigerian Immigrants Everywhere In Africa? #nigeria #lagos #africa #abuja
In this video, I will compare the cost of living vs income of selected African countries against Nigeria. Ultimately, you will understand why Nigeria is poor and its people have moved all over Africa and the world in search of better lives.
Nigerians earn 3-10 times less than the countries selected and most other African countries. Its civil servants are among the least paid in Africa. Professionals like medical doctors and university professors earn 15 times less than in South Africa, 10 times less than in Gabon, Botswana, and Namibia, and several less than in Kenya, Ivory Coast, and Senegal. Why?

Welcome to another episode. This time, it is in the land of Lingala. The land of music. Arguably, Africa's authentic music is best exemplified on the banks of the Congo River. Pays des sapeurs, or land of the dandies. You can hardly tell the difference between these two, except you speak French. The colonial language, which is the official language of both countries, possesses a subtle, or dial...

    If Buhari took the offer of Macron, agreed with Ouattara and changed the Naira to ECO, which is pegged to the Euro, this today crisis could have been averted and even put Nigeria in the bracket of a trillion $ economy. Unfortunately, African pride has its way and is killing us. The fallacy of having your currency while still depending on the $ for everything. Pathetic!!!

    Don't let this video fool you. Nigeria is still massively wealthy. The combined wealth of just 4 wealthy Nigerians can be greater than the wealth of some African countries. Private jets in Nigeria are as common as cars in some African countries. The problem with Nigeria is that looting of the Treasury and embezzlement has become cultural. Also, Nigeria is run like a small country like Ghana, instead of a big country like the US. If the US was run like Nigeria, it too would be like Nigeria. But don't let the video fool you. Nigeria has the resources to crush all African countries. Massive wealth is still pouring into Nigeria, but politicians are embezzling everything. Imagine a place where one person can embezzle $10 billion without any consequences.

    We fail to understand that we must chase knowledge rather than riches. It must knowledge 1st then riches will follow. China development was late but they mate sure they acquire the knowledge. They made sure they understand the need to have semi conductors, the vital component of every rich country. We have raw material to produce them but the know how make Semi conductor is a mystery to Africans.

    I have a master's degree in Geography and environmental resources planning and i have never had a job. I am still in Nigeria. Nigerians are very poor and have to provide all amenities for ourselves and by ourselves be it water, electricity, schools nearly everything. Born in 1982 and i have hardly seen a prosperous Nigeria. May be During the Goodluck Jonathan dispensation which was just 4 years and Nigerians were deceives to chase him out of power. There are many places in Nigeria that have not seen electricity for 15 years. I have two children and sometimes I regret bringing them to this world. Abeg just forget this country.

    I agree with you however at the same time you are also proving why Nigerians make less because Nigeria is significantly cheaper to live. You can rent a two bedroom apartment in Lagos for $950 a YEAR. That’s what you pay in a month in Johannesburg. Also, yes Nigeria earn less, but no Nigeria have one source of income. The Nigerian middle class that is people that earn above $500/month is more than the population of South Africa. A Nigerian home maybe worth $60,000 but that Nigerian own that home, while the South African that is a $250,000 home is paying a 20yrs mortgage. Nigerians are far more liquid than any other country in Africa. South Africa is the most unequal nation on this earth. The wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few, SA has a good finance and credit system that’s why can live a relatively prosperous life. It’s credit like in the west. Take credit out of America and 90% of the population cants afford their homes same thing in SA, while in Nigeria 98% own their homes. I was in Uganda last year and the place a friend of mine there was paying $450/month I could get that same place in Ajah for the same amount in a year. These are the things you must take into consideration. I have a cousin in Accra that is paying $1500 a month for 2bedroom apartment, the place he left in VI he was paying $4,000 a year was far better and more developed. Nigeria is dead cheap. A single guy can live a very happy and even semi luxury lifestyle for $300/month in Abuja or Lagos not to talk of Benin, Asaba, Kano or kaduna. Can any South African say that?

    • @BantuCityDiaries
      @BantuCityDiaries День тому

      @nosaokuns I appreciate your articulation, but I must emphasise that Nigeria's economic disparities are not just significant; they are severe. Earnings against the cost of living, or income vs outgoing, are disproportionately in favour of outgoing. Nigeria has more poor people living under $1 a day than South Africa's entire population, and those living under $3 a day are more than Ghana's population. Those in employment in Nigeria (a good chunk of them) are basically underemployed; i.e., their income, as emphasised above, runs a deficit of up to 60%. These are the people who live in poverty. The penury lot, living under $1 a day; the poor lot, living under $3 a day; and those living in poverty make up the bulk of Nigeria's population. "The Nigerian middle class that is people that earn above $500/month is more than the population of South Africa." You've got to be kidding!!! If 63 million Nigerians (the population of South Africa) earned $500 per month, as you claimed, Nigeria would have been classified as a middle-income country based on the coefficient of the naira-living-standard equivalency. Your assertion is wildly preposterous. "A Nigerian home maybe worth $60,000, but that Nigerian owns that home, while the South African that is a $250,000 home is paying a 20-year mortgage. Nigerians are far more liquid than any other country in Africa." This indicates a profound need for more understanding of economics. All developed and advanced economies rely on credit, which fluctuates like a rollercoaster. This is beneficial for the economy because creditability implies a robust financial system and a robust financial system implies a sound economy with sound fiscal policies. Most Nigerians are not creditworthy. We have a similar credit system, but our unhealthy economy, non-creditworthy people, and uncertain inflow of income by most citizens render the financial institutions incapable of interacting with the workforce, as you see in promising emerging and developing economies with substantial high-incomers, thus negatively impacting the economy. "Take credit out of America and 90% of the population cants afford their homes same thing in SA, while in Nigeria 98% own their homes." Economics, brother!!! Nigeria is dead cheap. A single guy can live a very happy and even semi luxury lifestyle for $300/month in Abuja or Lagos, not to talk of Benin, Asaba, Kano or kaduna. Can any South African say that? I've pretty much explained this above.

      @@BantuCityDiariesgreat rebuttal, now let me try to explain my thoughts. 1. No Nigerian had one stream of income. When people often calculate Nigeria’s gdp they often focus on the formal economy. You said the average Nigerian police earn 114,000 naira, true. What you don’t include is that the average Nigerian police earn another 500k monthly from gift and bribes. Now, you may not include that in your thinking but it’s there. The average civil servant working in Alausa in Lagos or a custom officer in Lagos is earning atleast 4x their wages in bribes, I know I know, don’t count bribes. But it’s part of life in Nigeria and it definitely counts!!! 2. Yes, our credit rating is bad. But more Nigerians can go to South Africa and buy a $300,000 house cash than any South African. Do you agree? This is why you see tens of thousands of Nigerian students flooding universities all of the world and paying $40,000 school fees like it’s nothing. 3. Here what most people don’t know, Nigerian economy is not in the office tower in Victoria island. More wealth is created in Alaba market and other markets in Nigeria than any banking or financial tower is Victoria’s Island. By the way, I’m a financial analyst and I understand full well the economic and financial markets. More millionaires are in created in the market (traders) in Nigeria than the oil industry. When me and my partners ship $10million dollars worth of computers and spare parts, they are sold in less than 6weeks and we are small fish in the market. 4. South Africa population is 60 million and that’s is 26% of Nigerian population. And absolutely yes, 26% of Nigerians are earning $300-$500 a month both formally and informally. 5. Here is what I agree with you, if Nigeria fixes its credit rating system. No country will come close to Nigeria in Africa and Nigeria will be bigger than the UK in 10yrs. With better credit system, 10s of millions of Nigerian could quickly leverage their assets to get loans and build that up rapidly. Do not underestimate Nigeria potential buying power. Just look at where we are with absolutely zero good government. Two things would change Nigeria over night. Better financial system and 24hr electricity. Nigeria economy would leap to $3trillion a year when these two things happen. Because don’t believe that BS of Nigerian economy being $450billion, right now Nigerian economy is closer to $1trillion.

    • @dansatchkabaka4415
      @dansatchkabaka4415 День тому

      Corruption and embezzlement are NOT the MAIN problem. You can still have progress with Corruption. The problem is that Nigeria is practicing an economic system that hinders advancement and nationalizes poverty. Nigeria is practising the opposite of the system in Advanced countries. Nigeria is a massive country that is being run like a small country, thereby stifling progress. If the US is run like Nigeria, it would also be a failed State like Nigeria. The system Nigeria is practising allows Corruption and embezzlement on a national scale, so they don't want to restructure it. Even Governors who are not corrupt have no idea what they should be doing. So, another problem is cluelessness of leadership. They don't know what they are supposed to do. I don’t want to advertise here what they are doing, and what they should be doing. But you are not wrong that Corruption has a strangle hold on Nigeria. Economic hardship means that the justice system can be bought. So, a politician like Yahya Bello who embezzled State's funds cannot be brought to justice. So, Nigeria has become a lawless State because of Corruption. But corruption is not the main problem; it is the economic system.

      Nigerians are not comparing with SACANS ., They are just angry and always angry and always hate and accuse SACANS, because they cannot be SA that's all . They don't hate any other countries even if they offend them. They hate mostly black SAns ,that's why their they push their drugs in black and coloreds communities only. Jealousy, envy and grudge it's what eating them and we don't know what else must SACANS do to defend themselves. The Nigerians came into SA first in 30years ago ,and nobody was worried about that, until SACANS were against their business of drugs ,kidnappings, human trafficking, prostituting girls and kidnappings of little girls and trafficked them, and they did that for their glamorous lifestyle they still do in SA. Nigerians and Kenyans can say whatever evilness they like. Truth won't change that if people bring shit in our home country to our families especially our children, hell can break loose if it wants to .We won't keep quiet and worry what you think of us. We know what we know and what's happening over all these years . We've tolerating this desease of these people. We won't stop fighting these evil pushed down our throats just because we are black. Blackness has nothing to do with protecting ourselves in our homeland. I don't know any Nigerian working anywhere, except that they're always in a crime scene eg hijacking people's properties and drugs , proclaiming to be prophets and pastors , practice to be Mesias of the naive SACANS and rob them their monies. But understand there cant be all of them in that game. But the majority have been in criminality and fodging and frauding people's IDs and passport in SA for the longest time Nigerians enter our country SA. You can say whatever you like, but some have been caught abroad with SA documents and others were traced in SA, for the fraudulent they committed in UK, USA and Australia. But even so , it is not good thing to hear what is happening in their country. Even so SA is hosting not Nigerians only, it host millions and thousands of other African countries. That is why our country is falling down to degrade and in debts as well. I wish things can shape up for Nigerians especially in Nigeria.

    Most of your cost and standard of living comparisons are based on a steep devaluation of the Naira that happen within the last 9 years but particularly last year but Nigerians have been emigrating since the 70s so it can’t be the reason.Nigerians like Indians,Chinese,Lebanese are adventurous people who are opportunity seekers.Also because of the huge population the opportunities at home are limited and competitive so a lot decide to venture out,mostly making a success wherever they go notwithstanding the exaggerated talk of crimes by a few.

      Keep on lying to yourself, but you re guaranteed nothing will change if admitting the truth is so difficult, calling adventurous or explorers as if you Nigerians just like to do,they re not seeking greener pastures, you know very well that's a lie.

    Their country is a failed state. They are not humble to admit their failures. They would rather go scam people and flex, instead of uniting against their leaders. Poverty has hardened their hearts. They steal, kill and destroy to make money. When they get caught, they are good at throwing a pity party. "Look what people are doing to us" is their fav song. They can play victim but are proud at the same time. They love their country from a distance. Hate living there, but want to make noise about it

      Nigeria is still the richest in Africa. Individually, just 4 wealthy Nigerians are wealthier than some African countries. Nigeria has the resources to crush most of Africa. It's just that looting of the Treasury and embezzlement is strangling the country.
