    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals День тому

      I’ll be 100 percent honest the serpentine set up is far superior to the v belt but you can do it. You just need all the V belt accessories and the v belts. Also the TBI and Vortec single belt serpentine water pumps spin in the opposite direction than the V belt.

    That cam is actually a 218/218 duration @.050. Very mild! the 106 LSA will give you a nice idle sound. Advertised duration is a useless specification.

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals 2 дні тому

      @@turbodave231 you are absolutely correct. Advertised duration is just a big number that makes a cam look big. The LSA makes the cam a little odd for the application but it sounds awesome so that’s why I picked it. It’s is a really good combo, I just wish the truck had more rear gear. The 3.23s make the cam useless from 1500 to 3000 rpm but man this engine come to life from 3500-6000.

    How would this vs a air gap work on a truck for low to mid range torque? Do you have a preference for that application?

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals 13 днів тому

      Personally I think the air gap intake would probably be better across the entire torque curve. But I don’t think it would be better by much in low end torque but I imagine you would start seeing the difference from 3,000 rpm up to 5,500. I have had this “high rise” intake on a pretty healthy small block and pushed it all the way to 6,200 rpm. It does the job for the price. But I would say the air gap style would arguably be better.

    While you're on vortec heads, I have a question. On my '98 Silverado and another truck, too, the #4 cylinder exhaust valve spring became weak and at higher rpms, (in drive at 70 mph) it developed a miss. when it came back down in OD, the miss would go away. My #4 exhaust spring was .040" short. The other truck actually had a broken spring. Is there a reason #4 cylinder ex. valve would have a problem. Is there a hot spot there? I noticed the crack was in the center of the head. I fixed mine with a used spring 3 years ago but, it missed again and #4 code came up again. I haven't had time to check it out, yet.

    These are good heads with a lot of undeserved bad comments on their performance. All you have to look at is dyno comparisons at lower rpms and they produce very similar torque and hp numbers to some of the best old school hi perf smallblock. I had a 350 with a vortec roller cam, flat top pistons, 193 heads, headers, police injecter and a stage 2 chip. It passed m😊y state's emmisions and could do first and second gear burnouts. High rpms definitely produce more hp but your engine will have more wear and not last as long.

    Do those vortec heads fit the 305 block? or they do not have the same features as the 350.

    • @BoneyardRevivals
      @BoneyardRevivals Місяць тому

      I’ll be 100 percent honest and say that I don’t quite know. GM did make 305 Vortec specific heads. As far as the 062 and 906s (the 350 heads) I believe they would bolt up but I believe that the main difference between 305 heads and the 350 ones are that every thing is smaller on the 305s as in the chamber size intake runners and valves. I would imagine there could be some potential issues with valve and chamber to piston clearances. It would be interesting if anyone else has any info or experience on this, as I personally never have tried it.

  • @jessesyfie7244
    @jessesyfie7244 Місяць тому

    These heads are just what u want and need for heavy pickup trucks and pulling. High air flow numbers on other heads make a towing engine run worse than stock. I know from experience. U dont need high flow numbers for low rpm torque and towing. You never go pass 4500rpms anyway so these are what id use and are better than the 041/186 camel hump 64 cc chambers heads. And there actual cheap to buy as no one wants them. People are so concerned about high rpm and high hp and they dont mean nothing for trucks and pulling engines.

    I like the video and information attempt although it has a lot of errors. 624 heads were built by GM with 1.72/1.50, 1.94/1.50 and even 2.02/1.60 valve combinations. The L82 Corvette engines had them with largest valves. The heavy duty LT9 350 had the smaller intake valves and had valve rotators on both intake and exhaust. As for swirl ports, there were 3 different 350 castings. 191, 193, and 810. They are all about 65cc. A 76 cc swirl port head does not exist from GM although the 187 305 head had a 1.84 valve and 58cc chamber. The heavy duty TBI 350 had an 18cc dished piston vs a 12cc dish on the light duty engine giving it the lower 8.75:1 compression ratio vs 9.3:1 on the lighter duty engine. HD engine started at 8,600 lbs gvw. It was not the combustion chamber that made the difference. 191 heads I have cc'd were all in the 65-66cc range. B/D-cars had a L98 TPI flat top piston with 6cc worth of valve reliefs giving them a 9.6:1 compression ratio with the 193s. Vortec heads, Mexican vs Canadian are different castings. The Mexican heads flow about 20 cfm less, they port stall before 0.450 lift and they are more prone to cracking than the OE Canadian heads. Vortec engines also came in some GMT800 trucks through 2007 but those were all the junk Mexican castings. They have a block that is newer than an 880 casting and had bosses for the LS 4-bolt motor mounts. They also had the regular old front side mounting bosses, 1 overlaps the LS pattern and the 2 blocks I have had did not have the two most foward bosses drilled or tapped for a traditional SBC mount. Mexican 062 I had flowed 215 cfm @ 0.400 then dropped off to 207 cfm @ 0.450 and beyond. Canadian 906 head from the factory engine in my 1997 Express flowed 236 @ 0.450 and 242 @ 0.500. Those 906s also had the pressed in exhaust seat which does hurt flow a bit, but not all 906 castings did. Some 906s were induction hardened seats like the 062s.
